terrible waste of time and money

1/5 by 👻 @Chris S on 04/10/2024

I would watch out for this restaurant. I booked lunch for two, but my dining companion had to leave town for an emergency. I arrived for lunch and was told that, unless I ordered alcohol, a 50 euro charge would be applied to my check since my lunch partner wasn't there. I was told that they seat people solo as walk ins but that since I had a reservation, they were going to take this approach. Not a great way to start a meal. There were some empty tables. In any event, the food was fine if not remarkable, and the cocktail I ordered was very bad. I was then presented with the bill with the 50 dollar fee, as what they had apparently meant was that I should have ordered a bottle of wine. For myself. Just an unpleasant place and a terrible waste of time and money.

Parcelles is a charming authentic gourmet restaurant. The staff is friendly. The food is extraordinary. The ambience is quiet and sublime and charming. Book a reservation if you want to visit.

A thoroughly disappointing experience.

1/5 by 👻 @guy h on 10/06/2023

“For your information Alain Ducasse was here for lunch today and had the pork and he was raving about it!” So informed the rather abrupt Maitre d’ as I queried why, when I had sent back my plat – a tasteless dish of a single piece of dry pork fillet hiding under three fatty slabs of pork shoulder and surrounded by what could only be described as a baked bean variation sprinkled with coriander, I was still being charged for it. As I had explained to the waitress at the time this concoction was simply inedible. My partner’s plat of gnocchi, possibly food processor made to eliminate any pillowy features, could have been a highlight were it not so insipid. Monoprix do a better gnocchi. So off to see the chef we went, who was somewhat surprised with the revelation that she had been serving Alan Ducasse that very day, or that he had dined on the tasteless pork creation in question. To be fair, the staff go out of their way to charm their largely American clientele and the wine list is very well structured. That does not make up for serving dishes that are quite frankly, cafeteria food quality. And maybe try not to insult your customers publicly for simply pointing out that a meal is substandard. A thoroughly disappointing experience.

Worth the 24 hour plane trip. It was an amazing experience for the food, staff, ambiance and meeting the wonderful owner

We went at lunch time but going there in the evening would be lovely, you also need to see their Epicerie across the road

Best lunch ever

Maybe best lunch I have ever enjoyed - everything including the calf’s brain tartare is great - great selection of wines by the glass - affordable too

A disappointing experience

3/5 by 👻 @almerriuk on 08/31/2023

Menu was limited - I ordered an appetizer and cheese plate but was patronizingly informed that this is a restaurant and I should order an entree- I pointed out the fact that the two dishes I ordered were far higher priced than an entree! Sadly disappointing - even the bread was nothing like a simple classic French bistro. They took the joy of Paris out of my experience. Wine was fine

Wonderful waiters but the chef…

3/5 by 👻 @Cecilie Ø on 08/23/2023

First. The food was wonderful, the wine even better and the sommelier at work was kind and knowledgeable. They were without a doub a man down, the waiters was behind doing all lunch service. Never did they not smile, but the where running, without time to help, fill water or answer questions. It was not good, and definitely not worth the prize. At a normal day, with the sommelier at work it might have been a perfect lunch. We locked out to the chefs in the kitchen, and they were rolling eyes at the waiters - and that, that is no way to treat one’s coworker. They were running! And the chefs had no respect, not once’s did they help - note even when they twice served us crème brûlée witch was over baked (second one raw at the top). I would come every day to drink wine, sit in the beautiful restaurant. But never again to watch the chefs here.

Incredibly disappointing.

2/5 by 👻 @KSA on 07/18/2023

So allow me to begin by saying that my partner and I are both well traveled foodies, always eager to try new things and reach beyond our comfort zone. We try to never adhere to being stereotypical Americans. We cherish French food and enjoy going with the experience. That said, Parcelles was the most disappointing dinner either of us have ever had. Well reviewed by the New York Times and Michelin, we hoped for a lovely time, which came to a crashing end as soon as the food arrived. The wait staff and the Somm were wonderful, but the food was nearly inedible. We ordered the Gezpacho, Pâté, Dorade, and pork loin. The Gezpacho was nothing more than tepid garlic yogurt with berries. The Pâté lacked any semblance of flavor. The Dorade was not a filet, but filled with bones, also lacking flavor. The pork loin was nothing but strips of dreadful white fat. The check came out to 160 Euros, which is why I bothered to write this. This restaurant is an absolute waste of money. Proceed at your own risk.

BELOW AVERAGE, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME

3/5 by 👻 @DJourno on 06/21/2023

There are many great restaurants in Paris but this is not one of them. The space is nice, the service was good but there is simply no reason to eat at a place that delivers a sub-par meal in such a great food city, The clams appetizer--a special--was very good but not exceptional. The best part of the meal was the special plat--veal sweetbreads. Truly delicious. But the second plat, a sliced pork, was, at best, flavorless. For a restaurant with slightly above average prices and an excellent reputation to allow this dish to come out of its kitchen, is simply unacceptable. We have eaten in great restaurants around the world and this was simply below average and it's not worth your time.

Outstanding local bistro

5/5 by 👻 @jafman58 on 03/05/2023

Go, this is a wonderful, small bistro near the Musee de la chasse in the Marais. The dishes are prepared with care and the results are terrific. The terrine was a country style with pickled vegetables to offset the richness of the dish. The Sweetbreads were perfectly done on a bed of glorious mashed potatoes. The wines were well chosen and fairly priced. We had a Loire, very complex, Chenin Blanc and it went well with all our dishes. We were a party of 6 and ALL of us enjoyed our meal.

Parcelles

4/5 by 👻 @LJL4090 on 01/23/2023

This is a terrific new (2022) restaurant. Small, casual. Located on an otherwise deserted 18th C Marais street. A boutique selling wines across the street, the one other source of light on the dark street emanating from this professional, but low-key storefront. Wine focused with a very long list from across France. The price range tending toward high. A concise menu, evidently different every day. Four-five choices per category, unusual, fresh basic preparations of seasonal ingredients. Scallops with garlic butter on open shells; then sliced cold head cheese, ris de veau (sweetbreads) lightly fried over mashed potatoes. Also offered: a pasta (gnocchi), a vegetarian option and bass. Poached pear and several other enticing desserts. Friendly service. Bilingual. Precious tables. Fair, but equally precious prices. Could not be more contemporary Paris without artifice or pretention. With wine, 90€ per person.

Excellent elevated dishes; upscale ambiance

5/5 by 👻 @Greenway1951 on 12/15/2022

Our first time here, and we were very impressed with the kitchen's riffs on traditional bistro dishes. The starters were a carpaccio of tête de veau, micron thin slices of jellied flavorful meat with a parsley based sauce, and the other a very tender creation of squid. Both were slightly warm, a nice touch on a cold night. Main dishes were stuffed cabbage, which is to say a large sphere of delicious well seasoned meat stuffing, wrapped in cabbage, hiding a large serving of foie gras in the center, and the other an exceptional vol a vent with sweetbreads swimming in a real au jus and an obscene amount of earthy winter chanterelles to accompany, all in a truly crisp puff pastry shell. We split an intriguing poached pear in chocolate, not very sweet, but a perfect end. Plating was all very attractive, contributing to but not competing with the food. Service was professional and very good; timely but not rushed, attentive but not hovering. The tables are nicely spaced for Paris, and the small dining room is most inviting. Menu apparently gradually morphs with new dishes coming on-line and others shifting off every few days. The large wine carte is ambitious and one could easily spend a small fortune on a bottle, but we thought a Monthélie 1er cru from Dubuet-Boillt for €88 was fair, and quite delicious. This is upper cabin cuisine and service, but the two starters, two mains and one dessert came to a very reasonable €121, with the Burgundy and two glasses of superior Champagne adding another €122. Will definitely return and is recommended.

Shockingly unhealthy cooking, and mediocre

1/5 by 👻 @Bob C on 12/14/2022

Totally overrated. Cuisine boring and dated. My starter was a tart so ordinary that it might have come from a corner delicatessen. The main courses were from a nutritional perspective a horror show. On offer, hare. But it was hare reconstituted with pate- grotesque. Buried, for good measure, under chocolate (!) sauce. And can Parcelles do anything without inner organs? A companion had calves head. But it recruited tongue and brains and other parts- not by any means simple and wholesome beef cheeks. The pork dish was pork, with fois gras, wrapped in cabbage. The deserts were a disappointment, inferior to what can be found in at least the better pastry shops. In summary, a caricature of old fashioned French bistro food. Suspect tourists are intimidated by its price and reputation and afraid to say that at home they would never eat such grotesque dishes. Be clear what you are getting here.

I went here with some friends for my birthday after reading Diane Henry review and loved everything about it. Lovely wee place with brilliant service and food was divine. I has the carpaccio of calf’s head followed by sea bass with langoustine sauce - yum! Wine also delicious- I can’t recommend highly enough!

Disappointed

3/5 by 👻 @emc on 11/19/2022

Very strange experience last night. We arrived at 7:45 for dinner. Five minutes after sitting down we were asked if we had decided yet. We hadn’t. This set the tone for the next hour and a half. We were rushed. But even more off putting was that not once during the meal did our server bother to ask if everything was OK. Food was served and whisked away. After 2 cocktails, 2 glasses of wine, 2appetizers, 2 main courses and a dessert, the server dropped the check on our table as he hurried to the next customer. Someone else (manager?) came by to take our payment. Again, not a word. I expected a sentence or two like “thank you for joining us.” Or “Hope you enjoyed your dinner. Have a lovely rest of your evening etc … “ but nothing. Our reservation was for 7:45. We left at 9:25. The food was OK except for my fish main course. A huge bony mass (no exaggeration) which took up much of the cod with many smaller bones throughout pretty much ruined the dish for me. I told our waiter after paying the bill that I would have appreciated it if he had checked in at least once during our dinner to ask if everything was OK, and he said “why, was something wrong?” Oh dear. Back to server school for you. Anyway, we both walked out of there feeling not good about the cold reception and extremely bony fish, and of course we will not return.

Very good meal

5/5 by 👻 @Travelfun001 on 10/27/2022

This is a small restaurant with a somewhat limited menu. We really enjoyed our starters and entrees. The menu seems to change regularly. The pork "loaf" and beet salad were both excellent starters. My hubby said this was the best gnocchi he ever ate and I really enjoyed the monkfish. Desert was also very tasty. They recommended wine for us, their wine list is massive. They are busy, reservations are a must and it feels like they are rushing you along through the courses.

We are in Paris celebrating our 30 th wedding anniversary. A friend suggested Parcelles. Food was simply outstanding. It is quite small but really quaint. Highly recommend reservations in advance. We went on a Tuesday and it was packed. We had the fish and cabbage and pork entrees for mains. For starters we had the pate pork special and an amazing beet salad. Also had the Iberico ham plate. We finished with a cheese plate and the chocolate piece. French bistro food at its best. Service was real good and attentive.
