Ramiro Lisboa Reviews
Great Lisbon Dining Experience!
The food here is really great. Our waiter was even better (and possibly the highlight of the evening). He was funny, friendly, and filled with great suggestions. The shrimp in garlic oil was fantastic; we ate like Phil in "Somebody Feed Phil": lots of different shrimp choices including the large red shrimps which were absolutely amazing. This isn't really a restaurant for vegetables or salad---you are here for seafood: oysters, goose barnacles and 5 different kinds of shrimp choices. We finished off the meal with the steak sandwich, which is the house "dessert" of choice. Really! My wife had an Aperrol Spritz and I had beers. Truly a memorable Lisbon dinning experience.
A disappointment....
It was the first time I attended and honestly it will be the last. 1 year of waiting for this family dinner and it felt like I was in an Indian restaurant and not a Portuguese seafood restaurant. As I passed through the hallway to go to our table I looked into the kitchen and it just reminded me of the T1's in Lisbon with 50 residents on top of each other. And speaking of food, there is also a disappointment. Flavorless seafood, the worst clams I've ever eaten in my life and what got away were the imperial ones. And on top of that, very expensive. But to pay so many employees it really has to be very expensive.
Ameiii
My experience at Ramiro was fantastic, I loved the food…. The atmosphere is somewhat rustic but pleasant, our graçon is super friendly and funny!!!
Freshest seafood we have ever had in a restaurant.
Incredibly fresh and simple seafood, unlike anywhere else we have been. Shellfish variety is amazing and service is efficient.
Top place for seafood
Great place for seafood! Worth of waiting - thete is a lounge where you can wait and have some ”starters”. Good and friendly service!
Over-hyped, over-priced
It's an average place, the food was not bad. The tiger prawns and the clams were pretty good. The service was OK, but it felt like being on a conveyer belt. In my opinion, not worth the effort to get a reservation (25€ pp just to make a reservation) and not worth the price.
You have to visit this place!
This was now our second visit to Ramiro and we just love this place. Next to the super fresh and delicious food the whole atmosphere is really unique and authentic. We will definitely coming back again!
Service Kills the whole dining experience
We were looking forward to this diner, as it was highly recommended and were very disappointed with the service. The waiter kept trying to make us only order what he recommended and kept telling us that it is good. We all wanted to order our own meals. The food that we ordered was good, but the service killed the experience and we could not wait to finish the meal and get out of the place.
Wonderful Seafood!!
This place is so good that we dined here twice in the four days we were in Lisbon. The first night we had toasted bread, (sounds boring but it’s delicious) Barnacles- (had to try them, they were also good and so worth saying we tried them and liked them ;-) prior to going here, we had asked a local how to eat actually eat them which was very helpful) Garlic Shrimp (yum) and Grilled Tiger Prawns (THE BEST!!) and a bottle of white wine. We returned our last evening there for the Grilled Tiger Prawns because they were so good!!! Fantastic seafood restaurant with very reasonable prices! Fast and professional service, this is a wonderful dining experience! We would return once a week minimum if we lived there!
A Restaurant Worth Swimming to From South Carolina, USA
This was our second time visiting Lisbon, so it was our second time to Ramiro. I do believe the second trip was strictly so we could come back to this restaurant. This restuarant has been the only thing my husband has talked about since we left it in 2022. When we came back this year it was everything we could have dreamed of and more. The garlic shrimp. I would bathe in the garlic shrimp. Just a big cannon ball and eat my way through. I think we had them bring us 4 refills on the shrimp. The crab - are you kidding?? Thanks for bringing him to the table so I could see him alive one last time before eating him. Juicy, buttery, yum. The star of the show - The Steak Sandwhich for dessert. I am not sure why this was the first place to think to serve me a meat sandwhich for dessert but now every place that doesn't is only mediocre to me.
Seafood lovers unite!!
How do I start?! Right!! Ramiros is fantastic!! Even popular with locals before Bordain and Phil got here!! The buttered bread is so amazingly fresh and fluffy yet crispy! The beer was crisp and cold! All the seafood including the spider crab, scarlet prawn, mussels, prawns were so fresh and tasty. The prego (streak sandwich) is a must for dessert!! Or at least after your meal! Amazing attentive waiter and team really! Literally the best seafood restaurant in Lisbon. Will be back one day! No doubt!
Must visit for seafood lovers
The place was chocker busy! Thankfully we made a reservation (would recommend this). Food was very fresh. We ordered things we wouldn't normally have e.g. goose neck barnacles and whelks, which was surprisingly tasty! Spider crab was nice but the scarlet shrimp was the highlight of the night. I have to thank the servers for making the night fun and enjoyable!
Unmissable
Delicious food! Impeccable tiger prawns and garlic prawns. To drink, be sure to order “Porto Tônico” - surreal! About the prego snack, I loved it so much that I'm going to try to eat it every day I'm in Lisbon. Great service! They’re very prepared to host English customers.
Don't be afraid of the large capacity restaurant side
A queue announces that the place is busy but it is very well managed and the wait is as good as can be expected. The products are remarkably fresh and the shrimp and langoustines are perfectly seasoned to preserve or enhance the taste. The service is well organized and cheerful.
Wonderful experience and delicious seafood in Lisbon.
Our family of six was visiting from Canada and were recommended to eat at Ramiro. We had amazing service from an enthusiastic server who obviously loved making people happy. The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. It’s not a cheap meal by any stretch but as a special experience it’s worth the price.
Best seafood 🥰
Everything was perfect. The service was great, the wine was delicious and the food was simply amazing. The freshness and quality couldn't be beat. You can chat with family and friends, laugh and just have a great time. No "chi chi", just quality prepared and served in the most natural way. Highly recommended. We will definitely be back
Wonderful seafood.
Grilled tiger prawns and medium prawns with sensational garlic and oil. Don't forget to try the sheep's cheese as a starter.
I really don’t get the hype.
I struggle to understand why this place has such a strong reputation - it was recommended to us multiple times. We left after starters, not wanting to end our Lisbon trip on a disappointing note. Rude, underwhelming service, no vibe, dated (not in a good way) decor and the food was really expensive for very little and also not delicious at all. In a city with great seafood, you can do much better than here on all aspects.
One of the best fun meals that I have ever had.
Loved the tiger prawns, garlic clams and edible crab.
Nice restaurant that serves lots of seafood and also steak.
The place just feels busy, especially with a dozen servers and cooks huddling in the kitchen area. Our server wasn't that talkative but he was efficient. We had wine and beer with the bread plate to start. For dinner we ordered the steak sandwich and spicy shrimp. Both were good dishes but nothing outstanding.
For lovers of shells and crustaceans
For lovers of shells and crustaceans. Very authentic place. Small space, fast service, nice staff, but everything they cook is awesome. If you like shells and crustaceans, this is the place to go. From recommendations - probably more suitable for lunch. All the best Vladimir
If you plan on having dinner here you'll need a reservation
If you plan on having dinner here you'll need a reservation or wait for hours for a table to open up; The other option is to just come early and just walk in. I came at 6 and just walked in no problem. I think if you come for lunch it might be the same, but if you want to go for dinner 7pm or later a reservation is an absolute must or be prepared to wait hours. (the website at the time was not correct, just google the restaurant for access to their reservations) We got the Scarlet prawns, tiger shrimp, garlic shrimp and edible crab. We ask if they had razor clams but they were out. There was buttered bread on the table, they charge a little over 3€, so if you don't want it ask them to take it away. You can order plain bread for cheaper and butter if you want, but I think if you order the garlic shrimp you can just use that as your butter, it was delicious we kept the butter to dip the bread in even after we ate all the shrimp. The star of the evening was the Scarlet prawns, they were huge, and grilled whole, be sure to suck the juice out of the head, it tasted like lobster. They were very thick and meaty. The tiger shrimp were also good, they were split in half and grilled with butter. They were perfectly cooked. The cold edible crab, you can order them deshelled so that all the work is done for you or in the shell which is a little cheaper, the major parts are cracked but the shell is very thick and they give you plastic mallets so you'll have to hit them very hard and shells will go flying. It was good and fun hammering them. The top shell of the crab also comes with a crab dip which you can use with the bread. We were told to try the Prego, a steak sandwich for dessert, which is what they did on Anthony Bourdain; but we were so full that we didn't have room for it. It was the most pricy meal on my Portugal trip, but it was all seafood so it was expected. Overall a very fresh and delicious seafood meal. All my Anthony Bourdain meals in portugal were a big hit. Be sure to make a reservation or just come anytime before 6, when we left there was a long wait at the bar area.
My husband and I were excited to snag a reservation here
My husband and I were excited to snag a reservation here for 5 pm during the week while visiting Lisbon. We ordered the cold prawns, the deshelled crab, and the clams in garlic butter (not pictured), and a half bottle of Vino Verdhe and one of the desserts. All of the entrees l tasted right-out-of-the-sea fresh and came to the table very quickly in increments as it was ready. We really loved the clams in butter and garlic, and dipping the bread in the sauce was to die for. I wish they brought plain bread to the table instead of the pre-buttered bread (which was delicious but VERY heavy). I wish they had more vegetables or side options you could order. The meal felt a bit one noted (and that note was just fish). The prawns were good but the eggs on all of them freaked us out when deshelling lol. I probably wouldn't order these again. My husband also last minute ordered the steak sandwich --he said it was the best he'd ever had. Crab was delicious and fresh, but I think it tastes better when you have to de-shell it yourself so wish we did that instead. Lovely place! Pricey but a fun dinner while in Lisbon.
Definitely make a reservation.
This place gets packed. Even if you make a reservation as a couple, you'll likely share a long table with another couple (but with an empty chair in between). They have an online QR menu code. If you need an English menu, click on the British flag. My husband and I ordered almost everything. We tried barnacles for the first time. The Scarlett prawns were expensive but so good. The spider crab was flavorful, and they give you a mallet to open up the legs. There will be lots of hammering sounds and some flying pieces of crab around you since this is one of their most popular dishes. Service is efficient and friendly. Staff taught us how to get the meat out of the barnacles and opened up our Scarlett prawns for us. Note that the staff will automatically put a bread basket on your table. This is not complementary. We left it on the side and asked the staff to take away because we did not want to fill up on bread and did not want to be charged for it.
Be warned - Just bread and fish/seafood
We came because of the proximity to our hotel and good reviews which I read. Very busy bustling place. Make no mistake, all they serve is bread and fish/seafood. No salads, vegs, desserts etc. Just bread and fish/seafood. We ordered 2 dishes that we had no idea on price as they were calculated by weight. They came, we ate, mostly bread tho because we were hungry. Shrimp was good, gone in a flash and we left with a 50EU bill. It was tasty but fairly steep for what we got. We had to go to get more food elsewhere to get our veggie/salad hit.
Best meal in portugal
This was the most incredible meal we had on our trip. We ordered the garlic shrimp, razor clams, oysters and the edible crab. Each dish was wonderfully prepared, flavorful and fresh but the edible crab was absolutely to die for. The wait staff was lovely, patient, helpful and did not oversell. This restaurant is an absolute must for anybody visiting Lisbon.
This is a tourist spot.
The food is good but not spectacular. It's in a good area and it is what you would expect for a tourist hot spot.
Rude waiter ruined a meal we were quite excited about, (food was fine).
We were quite excited about this meal from the folklore and reviews — and the food WAS interesting and pretty good, (barnacles, scarlet prawns, garlic prawns, BREAD...), however we had a RUDE waiter who was clearly grumpy, intolerant and disinterested. I have worked in the service industry, and understand that tourists can wear on one's good spirits, but for goodness sake, you work in a hugely tourist Lisbon restaurant... Every other meal we had in Portugal was more enjoyable than this one!
Worth the hype
Worth the hype. Lively, fun and fab food. Marko was the best waiter. We’ll be back for sure. Prawns amazing as was everything else
Favorite Meal in Portugal
Like many others, we decided to go here after seeing reviews in several publications as well as a recommendation from our Airbnb host. Had I taken much time to read through the many negative TripAdvisor reviews I may have decided otherwise, and I am glad I did not. We were unable to get a reservation so just decided to try and drop in at lunchtime (between 12:30-1:00PM). It was busy but not quite full and we were given a seat without any wait. Within a moment of being seated, a basket of freshly toasted bread was dropped at our table (which we knew we would be charged for, but it was worth it) and soon thereafter a server asked if we were ready to order. At that point we ordered some drinks (a Coke Zero & bottle of white wine) while trying to decide on the food order. It was a bit of a pain using the QR code menus, but we are used to that. We then ordered the garlic shrimp, garlic clams, a Prego (beef tenderloin sandwich), and a bag of chips. The food came out pretty quickly and all was delicious. Glad we still had some bread left to dip in the garlic sauce from the entrees. After finishing the food and while still drinking our wine I decided to order a second Prego because I had enjoyed it so much and at 6 euro I thought was a great price. Those sandwiches were the favorite thing I ate in all of Portugal. We then finished up and were probably done within about an hour. Price was reasonable and we were all very satisfied. I think going here for lunch vs. dinner made for a better experience. It is a bustling, loud, hurried atmosphere. Not the place for a relaxing dinner. Seemed to be more locals than tourists as well, though perhaps 50/50. Was fun to watch everyone wrestle with their shellfish. All around it was a fun & tasty lunch. Highly recommended, so long as you do not go in with the expectation of fancy or quiet meal.

Considering the hype about this place , this is a Very overated place , more like a tourist trap . I have taste a lot of much better seafood all over Asia and USA . Price is pretty steep . If you are very into seafood and food and has travelled a lot in asia and California , Boston area ; this place won't amaze you . I suggest you save your money and stomach to eat other place along your walking . No need to specifically make time to come here .
Huge disappointment.
Having been to Ramiro 11 years ago I had high expectations which were woefully unmet . We had a reservation and 5 pm and were sent up a very steep flight of stairs to an ugly, drab room . The menu is downloaded from a QR code , the waiter was really pushing us to order quickly . I explained that I wanted the dishes to come out slowly so we could eat hem while they were hot . He agreed and then proceeded to deliver the items at lightening speed . I had to send one dish back that was not what I ordered . No one came to see if we wanted to order more beverages. I flagged the waiter down and ordered a half bottle of Albariño and he brought a bottle of Vino Verde trying to convince me but was an Albariño . The service was a joke . I will never go back . What was a highlight of Lisbon has become a tourist trap .
Optimal
You have to get the ticket and stay in the waiting room for a table, but it's worth it because it's an excellent restaurant where you can eat excellent high quality crustaceans and molluscs, a large and clean room, very fast service, very kind and prepared for every need . Adequate bill for the quality of the dishes
A total disaster
I am still in shock from how bad this experience was. I do a lot of research on eating out when visiting places. I even cross reference. I rarely have a bad meal as a result and normally manage to avoid the tourist traps. But eating here has to be the biggest mistake I have ever made in picking a place. How did it happen? This place is on must list for must visit restaurants when visiting Lisbon. I can’t understand why. It was even on the Conde Nast list for Lisbon. So I thought what could wrong. We had booked for 6pm. If I am being honest once I arrived outside I started to get a bad feeling. For me this is a factory churning people in and out a total rip off and the good beyond dreadful. I think my standards are high and I do eat shellfish every week in my own country. And I am very at cooking shellfish and fish in general myself. I couldn’t get out fast enough. My family are forgiving. They laughed it off as a bad mistake but I still smarting from the experience

Got lucky at lunch time, got seated without "No Reservations" Food came out quick, menu items was direct (point and shoot)... quick service... tourists and locals all in the mix... 120-ish for what we ordered.
Great and unavoidable gastronomic stop in Lisbon.
Great and unavoidable gastronomic stop in Lisbon. You can't go to Lisbon without a trip to Ramiro which serves the best fish in Portugal. The variety is very wide and the freshness extraordinary: its molluscs are legendary, starting from the carabineros and ending with the legendary percebes.
Expensive & Unclean Tourist Trap
Not sure where all the great comments come from. Ramiro is just a tourist trap, almost no locals. The place is fully packed, small tables are very close to each other, one has only two hours for the prepaid reservation (25 EUR p.Person), very loud, no music, plates not very clean. The bread is put on the table without asking if you want it and then 3,90EUR is charged for it. We were there for a dinner and ordered shrimps on garlic, giant tiger prawns & blue lobster. The tiger prawns & lobster were quite tasty... but shrimps were with intestines... overall nothing extraordinary. The real problem noticed we just few hours after we left, at night my friend was feeling sick/queasy and I had a very bad food poisoning which lasted 3 days! I wrote to restaurant and they even didnt sent an excuse note! I am not talking about the refund! So if you dont want to spoil the valuable time on holidays and damage your health then avoid this dirty place.
First stop after hopping off from the airport.
It was around 2 o'clock. I decided to take the subway from the airport. I didn't have a reservation, so I was ready to wait and expected a long line. There was no line when I came and the host took me to the 2nd floor dining room near the kitchen. I was by myself and shared a table with another couple. My only problem was that the room was quite warm. I didn't want to take my jacket since I was sweating from walking with my heavy backpack. Mind you, I had just spent 16 hours flying from California and hadn't had a chance to shower. So I kept the jacket on me. Anyway, short story. I ordered the barnacles, rock crab, garlic shrimp, and lobster, a couple of breads, and a glass of ice-cold beer. Life was good. Foods were delicious and the waitress was very nice and efficient. By the way, didn't I mention the room was warm? It didn't help that I had to keep smashing those crabs with the hammer. If you are used to eating Dungeness crab, this one is different. You gotta smash it hard to get to the meat. Will I ever come back? In a heartbeat. The food was so good, seriously. BTW, for all of those, I only spent ~ 65 Euro. Good deal really.
I would like to say that this place is overpriced and over
I would like to say that this place is overpriced and over rated. Noisy due to crowd and people curiosity to try this restaurant.

My wife and I tried to go here last (Friday) night without a reservation at the height of Portuguese dinner time - 8 pm, and only lasted 30 minutes before we bailed and went to another (unnamed) place nearby. It was just okay. Cervejaria Ramiro is more than okay - way more. On our second attempt we showed up at 5:10, just after they opened for dinner and only had to wait 15 minutes before we were seated. We had heard from our food tour guide a couple days prior that their food was good but the service wasn't very good. Maybe we just lucked out tonight (Saturday night) but we were very well taken care of, almost as if we were the late Anthony Bourdain, or Phil from Somebody Feed Phil. The menu was on a QR code link, but neither my wife nor I could load it. One of the younger waiters came over, changed some of our settings, and we were in business. The menu has pictures so if you're thrown by the Portuguese you can just point to a picture and say "I want this!" Or you can point AND try to say it in likely-mangled Portuguese. We did a combination of both and got:Serrano ham (superb, freshly shaved off of a whole ham) -- yum!Spot prawns in garlic butter sauce (also superb)Two small beers and two bottles of lemon rattlerBarnacles (first time to try them and I'm now a fan)Boiled prawns (simply delicious)Edible crab (this was spectacular and reminded us both of Jonah crab, but we could eat the whole beast, not just one claw)Lemon sorbet with vodkaFreshly sliced mangoI highly recommend this place, but here are a couple of things you should know:It's super popular, so make a reservation, go early, or be okay with a long waitIt's not a typical Portuguese restaurant with sardines and cod cakes -- just lots of fresh, reasonably priced seafoodOh and our price for all of that yumminess? Just a hair over 100 .

Absolutely exceeded expectations! Every dish was delicious, and the servers were friendly and attentive. Definitely worth making a reservation in advance, there was a fairly long queue when we showed up on a Saturday at around 7p, but we were seated as soon as we got there. They have a few different rooms where you can be seated. We ended up in a room with 2 larger parties, but it didn't feel overwhelming. We had a view of the kitchen, and had a blast watching all the dishes come out. We ordered the garlic shrimp, the king prawns, and the steak sandwich. It's hard to pick a favorite, but the shrimp just barely beats out the others. Our waiter gave us some complimentary port at the end of our meal. Highly recommend!

You must try the Carabineiros, Gambás Al Ajilo, Percebes, Sapateira!

One of the most incredible seafood experiences we have ever had. Our favorites were the scarlet prawn and the giant tiger prawns. They were absolute perfection. The edible crab dip was also incredible with bread, though one of our main critiques was that the plastic hammer was not the best tool for cracking the crab legs and resulted in a lot of waste of crab meat. Important to be aware of the wait beforehand-- we waited for over two hours for a table (arrived at 8pm and got a table around 10:30pm) -- there is a waiting area to get drinks and cocktails and snacks while waiting but plan your night around this. Once in, the service is very quick.
Lisbon dining experience you can not miss!
I've never been to the Restaurant. We were fortunate to arrive before the wave of hungry locals and travelers. We waited in the lounge where all kinds of beverages and appetizers were available. Our number was called as we finished the first round. What a grand seafood menu: garlic shrimp, prawns, clams in garlic broth and a 2 .5 kg lobster along with the house wine made for a special dinner. Great service and a friendly crowd made for a great dining experience.
Five stars for the food and one star for the experience.
Strictly shell fish protein which I loved. But waiting two hours to be seated was not enjoyable.
Unforgettable Lunch Experience
Definitely lived up to its historical reputation Very professional waiting staff Sterling seafood Waiter's recommendations were spot on
Miamians don’t go!
Reserve with a 50.00 instant charge to your c/c that they later deduct from the bill. Given the 4 text reminders we decided to arrive early - Our reservation was at 5pm but we noticed it was open and empty and asked if it was okay we eat earlier. They were thrilled to accommodate since the place was relatively empty. We asked if we could sit outside but were told outside begins at 6pm and directed us upstairs. The table they offered was in a tight row of 6 chairs - back to back- elbow to elbow with another table of six front and back. Seated at the end of our table was a couple and they offered us the 2 in the corner leaving 2 empty in the center. Mind you, plenty of 2,4 and 6 person tables were empty but they wanted to cram us in sardine style. We requested to sit at another table and they obliged. They immediately brought us a stack of sliced bread dripping with butter (one of the two side dishes offered- the other, lays potato chips, not kidding) proudly pictured on their web page. We ordered 2 gambas al aguillo- basically, a Spanish tapa- of shrimp baked in salted garlic olive oil- Ameijoas Bulhao= tiny claims in water based salt and garlic plus, a tiny steak sandwich on a round roll served with mustard packs plus a bottle of cheap red wine for 72.00. We were done by 5pm and when we walked out, patrons were sitting outdoors- doesn’t outdoor seating begin at 6? Did we really have dinner?? 12 baby shrimps, a bowl of watery tiny clams, a mini steak sandwich with mustard packs and a bunch of bread as a side dish? What is all the hype about? A restaurant in a seedy location, serving mediocre seafood w/a side of bread. This place is a cheap version of Joe’s Stone Crab on SoBe- go there instead.
Magnificent
We read on our guide that this place is the best in Lisboa for mariscos lovers. IT IS!!! We had oisters, perceivos, tiger gambas and lobster. Everithing was behond expectations. I really dream to come back in Lisboa to go again to Ramiro.
If You Like Shell Fish, Go! (If You Don't, Stay Away)
I think my review title says a lot really. This place specialises is shell fish. So don't go if you don't like shell fish, or if you think you can settle for a fish of the day, or get steak and chips, or eat on a tiny budget. It does shell fish. That's it. And the menu is quite small. OK, that said, we had an amazing meal there. It's busy; it's popular, so book. If you just pitch up, expect to be disappointed. It's well organised (it's a bit of a maze inside, hence staff on the doors with radios to communicate with staff inside to allocate diners to rooms and tables). For our work group of four, we were soon seated, drinks order taken and soon after our food (the menu is via a QR code, which I have to admit I'm. not a huge fan of). It does shell fish. And fresh, good quality shell fish is expensive. You'll find things like scarlet shrimp, tiger prawns, spiny dye-murex, barnacles, whelks, giant tiger prawns. It's priced by the kilo, so ordering can be difficult but our waiter did a great job of bringing us a varied selection from across the menu, all reasonably sized dishes hence reasonably priced. There was no rush, indeed the staff were very patient as we navigated our way through the menu. It was busy (on a Tuesday evening) and vibrant. Overall very enjoyable and thoroughly recommended.
