Fab Food On Our First New York Night
We gave Allora a try because of its Midtown location close to where we're staying in New York for the first time to celebrate Mum's birthday, but soon discovered that the fantastic Italian cuisine was the real attraction. The extensive range of specials complemented the impressive menu. Fortunately, we received a platter of antipasti to nibble while we debated our choices. Eventually we settled on the scallops, langoustine risotto and veal, and can recommend them all. These savoury treats were followed by equally delicious desserts. But it wasn't just the food which made our visit to Allora so memorable: Franco and his team made us feel special with their attentive (but not overbearing) service, and particularly treated the birthday girl - though we all enjoyed the homemade limoncello! Be the first to ReplyAmazing service and food
Amazing service by a crew of attentive servers will make even the most jaded diner feel special at this establishment serving traditional Northern Italian fare.
Be the first to ReplyHyped by Wyndham, Doesn't Quite Deliver
Canned artichokes accompanied by mushrooms and foul-tasting black olives and capers were a huge and expensive disappointment. Lobster bisque had no chunks of lobster--tasty, but no meat. Ribeye excellent. Appetizer of blistered peppers were HOT. WE WERE NOT WARNED. Benny was sometimes nice, but sometimes not. VERY LOUD venue. Impossible to carry on a conversation. Won't return. Maybe an off night?
Be the first to ReplyOwner overcharged us and food was terrible
My pasta was overcooked and cold. As guests of the Wyndham 45 we were supposed to get 15% off before taxes and a free appetizer each, as per Wyndham's flyer and brochure. We only got 10%, and the owner who served us ( we were the only guests (6) in the entire restaurant) charged us for our appetizers at $24.00 each, and over charged us, as only 5 of us had it and we were charged for 6. Then the pasta not on the menu but the specials of the day, were not price pointed but ended up being double the price of menu pasta = $27.00 versus non menu for $45.00 US for a cup and a half of pasta (overcooked and cold) and then the piece di resistance was the owner - who served us - added a 25% tip for himself to the bill without our permission. He arbitrarily added $134.00 US as a tip to the bill. I was disgusted and would never go back here nor recommend this place to anyone. We own a house in Italy and know what good pasta is worth and what it should be. I understand we were in New York Midtown so expected prices to be steeper but when the bill came to $750.00 US and $135.00 US of that was the owners self indulged tip on approximately 9 cups of overcooked pasta...........well, I was disgusted and made sure to let Wyndham know how disappointed I was in a place they were supposed to have vetted and encouraged us to go to and get ripped off at - not to mention the terrible meal. I myself make better pasta and I'm not even Italian! DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT! THE WORST ITALIAN IN THE CITY!
Be the first to ReplyGood place for evening out!
Stayed at the Bernic and enjoy evening and rooftop here. While like many places in NYC you will pay for good service and quality - this a place I would recommend for an evening with friends.
Be the first to ReplyGood Food, but check your bill!
Pros- good food (olive oil, bread, mushroom risotto, ravioli appetizer, gnocchi with pesto), good service, ability to make vegetarian accommodations, homemade pasta, outdoor seating, some free apps, located near Grand Central Station.
Cons- The hidden food costs. As another reviewer has stated, be sure to ask the price of each item if not stated on the menu and be clear as to whether you are getting one entree divided among your guests (e.g., salad, appetizer) or several entrees at once. We had that happen with the ravioli appetizer which we were told was one dish divided by 3 and it was actually billed as 3 separate appetizers of which we tried to return 2. The bus boys assured us that it was 1 appetizer dish divided into 3 plates. When the final bill arrived, we saw it was billed as 3 separate appetizer dishes at $ 16 each ($ 48 total) and so we contested it. To the waiterโs credit, he adjusted it twice and then gave us complimentary limoncello shots but we were disappointed that the meal ended that way.
BEWARE of service & price
Great food but Wyndham also sent us . Waiter Brought us complimentary bread & marinated peppers - very nice , but then proceeded to remove the peppers from our table before we were able to finish them (like they were taking them to give to someone else ??? After we had handled them ) there were disappointed vegetarians at our table :( We were never given a menu w prices . Our fault for not asking - they just listed twice to us verbally what was available . Ordered an appetizer & they brought one for each of us ! Cha Ching - we each had a Caesar salad which was a wheeled cart performance at our table , the 4 of us each had a pasta entree (very tasty ) & shared 1 bottle of wine -when we asked for check they brought our $446 bill -But it was not itemized!!! Again our fault we should have asked for an itemized bill . Iโm sure my sister tipped on top of all that - now after reading review before Iโm sure they charged us the 30% gratuity so they prob got tipped twice . Bummer our fault for not demanding menu w price or itemized bill . Pretty sure they saw us blonde Midwest tourists coming . Good food , nice place , just be smarter than us & ask for prices ahead of time & watch your itemized bill before tipping .
Be the first to ReplyALLORA Does Not Care !!
We were recommended this very "elite" Restaurant by my Hotel Wyndham .We were a family of 4 persons looking out to enjoying a good meal .Little did I know that this experience at Allora Ristorante would leave a bitter taste in my mouth .The food is very mediocre .This is the most overpriced dining experience I have ever had.
We asked for flat(tap) water and were charged $ 18 for tap water !!!
There are a lot of hidden charges which suddenly pop up in your bill if one is not very careful .And to top it all there is a mandatory 30% tip which is automatically added to your bill.
Very shady practices indeed!!!This restaurant is a SCAM .They overcharged my card and have still not reversed the refund due to me..Please be very careful
If youโre in NYC donโt miss this place
The food was incredible!! But the service is what makes the difference!! Out waiter Mr. Fadil Motrina, went the extra mile to make sure that everything was perfect! Also got us some complementary wine and lemoncello! We absolutely loved it and will for sure come back
Thank you Allora and Mr. Motrina to make birthday unforgettable!
Best Ravioli
The staff is superb in this relatively small restaurant. The food is amazing. My ravioli was the best I ever tasted. Find this gem off the beaten path
Be the first to ReplyFancy, delicious, noisy
Got there by chance. Got a nice table. Waiters in bow tie and all. What first appeared as a quiet, cozy place, turned out to be quite noisy.
But we got a nice table and the food, especially the specials were exquisite.
Try the Longo, extra long spaghetti style pasta with meatballs, which they then cut with scissors in front of you and the ravioli with squid ink. The ravioli especially were out of this world.
But the Italian waiter exploded my wine glass with his gesticulation in describing the specials. And I got a piece of glass on my forehead!!! Freaky and scary.
Nevertheless, a good experience all in all.
Chocolate mousse in desert was just right too.
All meals come with a complimentary charcuterie appetizer and Italian liqueur at the end.
Excellent resaurant, great food!
My son's birthday happened on this great and very friendly restaurant!
After the waiter explained on details(loved that) we all went for specials of the day and we've had al different choices. What can I say, I had a very nicely cooked fish and I loved it. But my younger son was the lucky one as he had veal parmigiana. I tried a piece and it was really great. My wife choose to have lamb...what can i say?...delicious.
I suggest visiting this place. You'll be very satisfied and happy.
Open for breakfast too!
I had breakfast there before a business meeting and enjoyed the entire experience. There is a limited menu but liked the avocado toast with feta
Service was very courteous and yet professional
Not safe for Covid, poor service and mediocre food
No one checked for our vaccine cards. Host and wait staff all unmasked. We considered leaving but weโre hungry. We were seated and ignored for 10 minutes w
That was the theme on their service. Finally host came over to see what we ordered and we told him we were awaiting menus. Waiter gave a sing song recitation of specials that was unintelligible Then host came over and repeated it and we finally got to order. I ordered lemon drop martini as previous reviewers suggested and it was nothing special. Carpaccio was very good. I ordered house specialty 30โ long thin tube pasta with meatballs and sauce. Pasta a bit too al dente but tasty. Unfortunately mini meatballs nothing special. Veal Marsala had overcooked veal but mushrooms and sauce tasty. We had to ask for complimentary lemoncello that was okay. The acoustics were terrible. I could barely hear my dining companion over noise from other diners and loud waiters who seemed to be shouting in faux Italian accents. It was hard to hold a conversation over the noise. Again poor service and mediocre food means we will never return coupled with feeling unsafe as they failed to check for vaccinations I expected more from a restaurant marketing itself as upscale. It seems that if you were a regular customer you got more attention and if not like us you were ignored
Don't miss out on this gem!
Excellent restaurant in The Bernic hotel. We chose to eat at the bar. The bartender, Ana, was excellent. I had a lemon drop that was delicious and smooth. My husband had an old fashion (okay, maybe 3)! Owner is in the house as well as his son, Ben, who is also very personable. Food was delicious - caprese, chicken special, rigatoni with bolognese ... topped off with carrot cake and coffee. Yum! Highly recommend!!
