The best sushi outside of Japan.
You cannot go wrong here. The fish is so fresh and wonderful. From the sauces to the dishes, this is one of the best sushi places we've ever been to. We've been coming here for 6 years and are finally moving out of the bay but will be back just for this Resturant. They are so kind and thoughtful and always remember our restrictions (no selfish). 100 percent would recommend.

It's hard to put into words how much I loved our meal here this past Saturday. Though they are clear on their website that they do not take modifications which I completely understand for an omakase menu, they did ask if we had anything we didn't like when we sat down, which was very appreciated. Every single piece of fish was delicious, but some of my favorite bites were the yellowtail, scallop, uni, salmon, and deep sea fish I hadn't heard of. The pricing was super reasonable too, at $135 a person. We ordered the waygu as an add on and that was also delicious! This was the closest thing that reminded me of getting sushi in Japan, and you can tell this couple puts a lot of pride into making this a special experience for everybody there. They also provided excellent sake recommendations and I liked that you were able to do a carafe so that we could try a couple different kinds.
Be the first to ReplyI'll give 5 stars for the service.
We decided on a spontaneous dinner without a reservation, making it a casual evening out. However, every dish had a slight deviation from what we expected.
Be the first to ReplyAn extremely rare experience that you really won't find
An extremely rare experience that you really won't find anywhere in the city. It is a small, unpretentious restaurant that is located inside Japan center, next to the hotel. It's owned and run by a Japanese couple who have been in the business for years (since Koo, if you know that restaurant). They are very sweet, down to earth, and take great care of everything you see. A lot of details and thought go into the food and presentation. Compared to other Japanese / sushi restaurants, I think An is affordable. The ingredients are high quality (if you know, you know...) and the service is exceptional. I especially love all the seasonal ingredients that they source. if you follow them on instagram, you can get a sneak peek into what they'll offer and you can see how much care they put into everything! If you're looking to be treated like family in a cozy environment and fed home cooked food and fresh sushi, consider An!

The sushi was exceptional. Service and ambience were just as good. Book well in advance. This is a small high quality restaurant which is in high demand.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, cozy vibe, and fun conversations.
Nothing to complain. I love everything about this place and will keep going back.
Be the first to ReplySmall but cozy and friendly.
Similar to a neighborhood restaurant in Kyoto or Tokyo. Excellent service. Fresh and broad selection of sushi. Highly recommend.

Loved the vibe, the friendly service, the small, intimate atmosphere and the outstanding omekase. A sweet and delightful experience altogether.

I was blown away by every piece of fish! There wasn't a piece of sashimi I didn't like! Authentic Japanese Omakase Sushi Restaurant with Japanese Sushi Chef! Every piece of fish was extremely fresh and tender! Straight from Japan! Otoro, Uni, and Hokkaido scallop melted in my mouth! Best Sushi Experience in SF so far! Pro tip - Make a reservation in advance. We got lucky on a Tuesday night at the bar!
Be the first to ReplyGreat omakase restaurant at half the price of most sf spots.
The restaurant is small and only seats around 20 people, giving the place a cozy vibe. All of the food was delicious and varied in the flavors and senses. I'm not a huge fan of most nigiri but this was exquisite. The fatty flavor and textures were unlike any other sushi shops I've ever been to. Even a basic bowl of miso soup gave me a deeper, heartier taste. Wonderful shop and will be coming back
Be the first to ReplyI would highly recommend.
The food here is brilliant. The server tells you exactly how to eat the sushi. My favorites were the salmon and apples and the shrimp and ponzu jelly. The nigiri omakase is a 5 course meal for around $100 per person. They fly their fish from all over the world and you can surely taste the difference between this and other sushi places. Although you don't get "full" with this experience. Additionally the whole experience is about an hour long. We sat down at 7:30 and received our check at 8:30. So be on time. The space is very intimate, only 3 tables and a bar. So they do reservation only. It's not the best place for a big group. This is a great place for a business meal or a nice date. I would come back for sure.

Wow I can't recommend this place enough!! I took my partner here for his birthday, and it was both of our first omakase experience. The friendly service, intimate atmosphere, and delicious fresh fish was all perfect. Amazing and authentic Japanese food, a welcoming unpretentious environment, and owned by the sweetest couple. You can't go wrong.
Be the first to ReplyExquisite sushi.
Friendly and small homey atmosphere. Expensive and worth it. Savor the experience. Arigato.
Be the first to ReplyWhenever I want to eat good sushi, I go to An.
It's a solid Edomae sushi restaurant. I've been to other fine sushi establishments, but I keep coming back to An for excellent quality & service. As a native of Japan, I feel the price is reasonable, considering the chef is classically trained who can deliver authentic sushi. Although I usually order a la carte along with a good bottle of sake, Omakase is very nice every once in a while.
Be the first to ReplyThis was my very first omakase experience.
Nice cute place. I ate some delicious items and I really like how they introduce each item. I wish I was able to sit by the bar to watch the chef, but judging from afar it seems like it would still be hard to see what the chefs are making because of the cases of fish blocking the view.

Fabulous find. Small and intimate. First time I had the Omakasi 12 dish. My chef was perfect. The 2nd time I went I made the mistake of ordering the 12 dish Omakasi thinking it would be different - but they were mostly the same. All of the best quality fish with each bite savoring in your mouth. Next time I will venture ala cart.
Be the first to ReplyWow! What great value.
We both got the omakase. So delicious. Super fresh fish. Nigiri was incredible. The strawberry mochi was amazing!!! Perfect sweetness with red bean and outside mochi was so fresh and soft.

Quaint spot located on the second floor of a mall in Japantown--it has an intimate atmosphere and the waitress was awesome.Though the small courses were great, the quality of the fish overall wasn't the freshest I've had (the nigiri exemplified this). That being said, Chawanmushi was amazing and I also appreciated the sashimi course.
Be the first to ReplyOur definitive, go to anniversary spot in San Francisco.
A small family owned restaurant tucked inside the Japantown mall, just down from Hotel Kabuki. I don't have anything bad to say about this place. Be sure to make reservations because the seating is very limited. The husband and wife duo running this place are always so charming, you almost feel like you're in someone's home for dinner. Trying the omakase if you haven't had it before is an absolute must! But be adventurous and order something you may not have had before. Compared to other high end sushi spots in the city, the prices are reasonable for the quality you receive. Another tip is don't expect to see California or lion king rolls here, only good, fresh traditional Japanese food. Please give them a try, you won't regret it!

The last time I sat down in the restaurant was when it was Ino. New ownership and chefs. I went in thinking I wanted the most expensive sashimi omakase. After talking about it with the chef/owner I ordered the chef's omakase. All the courses were great and many had interesting combos of flavor and texture. I am definitely glad I listened to the chef and can't wait to return.
Be the first to ReplyBEST sushi I've had EVER.
Started off with the dassai 45 poured into a beautiful gold carafe. Sake was fruity and clean. Ordered the 20 piece sashimi with toro and uni. I thought it was going to be too much food but it wasn't. Every piece I had was so fresh! The toro had a firm texture and was so buttery. The Hokkaido uni was sweet and fresh. The other pieces were all so delicious. I also ordered a king crab temaki. Amazing quality and talented sushi chefs. Will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic restaurant with an intimate and cozy interior.
Seems to only be one person working front of the house but you're always well taken care of. Food was fresh and delicious!
Be the first to ReplyTeriffic omakase nigiri dinner yet again.
Our third time this year. Super Well taken care of by everyone and received a great recommendation to try their limited /seasonal sake.Sat at six, left at eight, totally full and satisfied. Will

One of our favorite sushi spots! We can usually get a spot at the sushi bar pretty easily. Simple, clean pieces and the price is reasonable. Very nice owners. I highly recommend!

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and this was easily the best $300+ I have ever spent. Yes it is expensive and a treat but the quality of the food, quality of the service, and the delicious experience was worth every cent. Our sushi chef was incredibly friendly and shared a couple of shots of sake with my girlfriend and me. Get the omakase and sit by the bar. Obviously. 20/5 would come again and would recommend to anyone in SF looking to impress someone. This place does not disappoint. Get a sake pairing and make it a night. I normally don't like sake - but the 2nd cheapest sake on the menu was delicious!
