We were so blown away by the restaurant and beach club aspect of the resort that we decided to extend our stay in Sint Maarten/St. Martin and book a week here.
The restaurants and beach club are amazing, but the accommodations aren't five star. I preface this by understanding the hurricane almost wiped this place out and then COVID hit, but there is still a fair bit of visible damage from the hurricane and several rooms are still boarded up. Our ground-level room needed a paint job and tile repairs, including our front terrace -- the tile really needed to be cleaned, the walls repainted.
The room was nice and bright and colourful, but it also needed a paint job and some tile repairs. And for a French resort, we were surprised there was no coffee maker — only a kettle and instant coffee.
The grounds and courtyard outside the rooms really need some landscaping and some deep cleaning/repainting due to the water damage still visible from the hurricane.
In short, the rooms were overpriced for the quality of the accommodations and the grounds. This place could be utterly spectacular if some investments were made in repairing/repainting and sprucing up the existing rooms and the grounds, which seems to be ongoing. While we were there it seemed as if either a gym or spa was being constructed (right now, the resort lacks either). If the attention to detail that's been applied to the restaurants and beach club extended to the rooms and the giant courtyard -- maybe even a second pool in that space would be a good idea -- we would definitely return some day. This place is just a few repairs away from being a world-class hotel.
