Food was all really good.
Just wish portions were bigger! Service is pretty fast and interior is nice.

Didn't like that there were supplemental $$ added to almost every course. Didn't think the price charged was worth the value.

Came here for dinner and generally speaking had an overall good experience. Food was good with friendly service. I liked the more relaxed energy here too. I found the cocktails were a bit light but all in all enjoyed the meal and recommend if you're in the area.
Be the first to ReplyRecommend a try, but food comes with a lot of
Recommend a try, but food comes with a lot of inconsistencies. Slightly hipster ambiance with rustic, naked walls. Service was 3 stars, but I will likely never return. Sea urchin starter was great, but the amount of sea urchin offered per bowl is somewhat variable and inconsistent. I can only assume daily uni quality is different. Can easily spot if you scroll thru photos. Flavor was good, not overpowering for a starter, but sets the tone for korean fusion. Stripe bass was my favorite of the night. An elevated ceviche if you will. The citrus and slight spice was perfect for the slightly cooked, raw fish. Refreshing. Beef tartare was average. The tiny anchovies were good but the entire dish really needed a carb. A bit of sushi rice or a piece of grilled bruschetta toast would've been perfect. As it was, it was slightly salty and the anchovies didn't offer enough of a texture contrast. Potatoe jeon was an amazing ...latke. Eat the friend potatoe with the sauce, piece of egg, and marinated cilantro in a single bite. The acidic cilantro really balances the fried food and the egg gives it a creamy flavor. This was my second favorite of the night. We had the juk also which was immensely disappointing. No umami, not real flavor, other than overpowering ginger. Asians know how to make great congee and this was not it. Cod was cooked very well, but I didn't care for the gochujang curry. Tasted like an Indian curry and I really couldn't taste any gochujang. The fish itself should have been the star but the strong curry destroyed it. A milder miso may have been better. Lamb was great with very flavorful jus. But the meat came with a giant piece of fat on eat slice, which I really wish they had cut off. No knife is given so we had to spit out the fat. Kind of unappealing. Rice that comes with the main entree was great. Wish I had had some of it to go with my tartare. The banchan are almost an afterthought. No kimchi tonight, which really...come on, korean restaurant - just give the kimchi. I neeeed it. The cucumber and apple kimchi were both bland. And these two I could compare to authentic traditional Korean banchan and the ones here were again, a total afterthought. If not elevated, then maybe don't offer it here. K-town is a few blocks away and I could get better for way less. Dessert is a pass. We got the lychee granita and it was a tiny bowl of cinnamon ice with cheesy yogurt. There was zero lychee flavor. Zero. Really left me disappointed for the night. The cinnamon flavor for the ice was also not something I enjoyed at all. I wish they had put cinnamon on the menu because I would've know not to order this. For those who have gone to korean restaurants that give a sweet cinnamon dessert drink at the end of the meal - that is what this dessert tasted like. So if you like that drink, you may like this. And a last gripe, when a server came to take the dessert and asked how it was. I made it clear I didn't enjoy it at all. This would have been a good time for them to offer a different dessert, but he just said oh and took the bowl. Service otherwise was excellent. We liked our main server very much and when my hubs dropped his napkin a new one was brought to him on a plate very stealthily - almost a michelin level move :) All in all, worth a try but a far cry from sister Atomix. Far. And sadly when we walked past ktown afterwards, we both regretted the dinner choice and wished we had just gone to an authentic Korea place or even a food court. My star rating legend: 5: A+ Worth a special journey (ie. I would go out of my way, maybe even take a flight somewhere just for this; exceptionally amazing) 4: A excellent, a must try, solid place 3: B good; nothing extraordinary, but would definitely go again 2: C personally would never go again (unless invited by someone and I didn't get to pick the place), but I can see how others might find something appealing 1: Fail. I would never return and recommend no on else goes either.
Be the first to ReplyAtoboy only does a 4-course prix-fixe for $75.
Portions are just right and it comes with a bowl of rice and side dishes. My favorites were the Sea Urchin, Potato Jeon and Pork Jowl. The desserts (not part of the prix-fixe) are all very good too so make sure you try them!
Be the first to ReplyFood is trash.
Service was decent. Although I didn't appreciate being lied to at the end when the server told me there is a difference between gratuity and a "hospitality fee". He told me the hospitality fee is not gratuity and that I needed to tip on top of that when... that IS the gratuity. Bro you're charging me an already insane amount for these portion sizes and you want me to tip ON TOP OF THE TIP? Fuck Atoboy. Fuck my server.
Be the first to ReplyTasty food, but portions were small.
I was not expecting the restaurant to be so long, narrow, and minimal. It was interesting! All the dishes that we tried were good, the flavors were robust, but I just wished that there was more. If there hadn't been a bowl of rice with the main dish, I would not have been full. Everyone gets the sea urchin egg - there was a bit too much of the seaweed which took away from the sweet uni flavor. For appetizers, both the beef tartare and the stripe bass were good. There are crunchy anchovies in the beef tartare that add a nice texture. The stripe bass is more refreshing and light with the limequats. For third course, the potato jeon is crispy and paired well with the oyster cream. For entrees, I recommend the cod over the pork jowl. The cod had a rich curry that complements the rice perfectly and the cod was cooked perfectly. It was flakey and tender. The pork jowl was rich and fatty, but it was a bit too fatty and the kale was an interesting pairing. It can be hard to get reservations - set a notify on resy to snag last minute reservations!
Be the first to ReplyVery nice ambiance and the service was great.
However we found the food to be a bit lacking--nothing was bad but it also didn't stand out at all, and probably not worth the price that it was. You can get much better and much cheaper Korean food just a few streets away in Koreatown. The cocktail portion was also extremely small! It's good but for $20 you only get a few sips.

They were all delicious, but tonight we added some fried chicken, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Dessert SUJEONGGWA GRANITA was the perfect ending to the meal! Cinnamon spiced ice, burrata cheese, lychee yogurt and crunchy walnuts! The environment is simple and tidy, and the service is very good!
Be the first to ReplyCame on Sunday night 1/14 and hostess was rude.
She looked at us funny when we asked to see the menu and continued to glare the whole interaction which made me very uncomfortable. She repeatedly stated they werent seating anymore even after we told her that we werent eating there just looking at the menu. Super odd
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, amazing people, amazing experience.
We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend many memorable date nights and dinners with friends at Atoboy. Unparalleled service and hospitality led by an incredibly talented and tireless team. Everything on the menu is great. Try the fried chicken.

Price fixe menu where you have some agency of dishes for each course. Overall enjoyed my meal, though the earlier courses were much more compelling than the later courses. Restaurant is trying to serve creative takes on Korean food in a more casual setting and I do think they mostly succeed but the meal overall didn't wow me. See below for longer takes on dishes.First dish everyone had was uni atop a bed of roasted seaweed all over steamed egg. The texture of the steamed egg was silky and pristine and I love uni in general but I thought that the quantity of roasted seaweed better suited the appearance of the dish moreso than the flavor. It was frankly difficult to recognize much flavor besides the seaweed which is a shame when your amuse bouche is centered on uni.Endive starter was excellent, nutty piave and cashews were brightened with the zest of cara cara oranges and the endives helped ground everything together again. Probably highlight of the meal. Other had a beef tartare which was good but seemed to be lacking in brightness and the creamy fatty sauce kind of overwhelmed most people's palates.Delicata squash was fried tempura style and served with other vegetables and served atop a sauce that I'd best place as a nuttier, earthier hoison? Delicata was fried well and I honestly couldn't have enough of the sauce. Other options were a crab salad that was disappointing to say the least. Did not try the octopus but friends were a very big fan.Shared the fried chicken add on and I would agree that you almost certainly should get it if you are coming. Chicken is fried to a shatteringly crisp exterior while still keeping a juicy center. Served with a gochujang sauce and spicy peanut sauce which was really cool, would love to see that more often with fried chicken. Wish the heat was quite a bit higher though. My main dish was fried skate served with tartare sauce. Nothing really cool going on here except well cooked skate. Trying the pork ribs, they were also fine, exactly what you'd expect from roasted ribs with a sweet, slightly spicy sauce although I did think they were slightly over cooked, some bits edging on dry. Lamb seemed mostly unremarkable, just a slice of medium rare meat although maybe the asparagus and spring onion do a lot to lift it up. Overall disappointed by mains, felt like none of the creative and fun flavors that I had with the endives salad or even the potential of things like the uni amuse bouche were present.Granita dessert was boldly cinnamony but fresh, never straying into cinabbon territory even with the dairy bits of buratta. Would recommend.

My friend managed to snag a reservation on a Tuesday night, so I gladly tagged along. There were three of us, which ended up being the perfect party size since we could try everything on the menu, although we opted not to get the endives since one of our party was allergic to nuts.Overall, my favorite dishes were the octopus, the fried chicken, and the yellowtail. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, but not too rich/juicy or overwhelming. I ended up eating it without the sauce since I actually preferred the plain flavor. The octopus and the yellowtail I felt were very unique in terms of the sauce -- especially for the yellowtail, which just had the slightest hint of sweetness from the grape. It contrasted perfectly with the more tart sauce, which I definitely appreciated.Everything else I felt was decent, but not particularly standout. The ribs especially were underwhelming, as they were a bit dry; the lamb was also not one of my top dishes here since the fat still retained a lot of the gamey flavor. I also generally prefer lean meat, so that probably played a role as well. The pumpkin/apple dish was also just not my thing texture-wise, although the taste was fine. For $75 (plus the additional cost for the octopus, lamb, and fried chicken), I thought this was a suitable tasting menu for sure. If you are willing to spend a bit more (especially if you're already planning to pay for the extra-cost dishes), I think I would definitely still recommend going to Jua instead.
Be the first to ReplyReally inventive food.
Mostly hits (octopus, ribs, yellowtail, crab salad) and a few just-ok dishes (endive salad and shaved ice desert). Really great service. Interesting decor. Phenomenal cocktail (naegroni).

Come to Atoboy for great service and creative dishes, but be prepared to order quite a bit as the dishes are on the smaller side. Makes for a great tasting of most of the menu.Atmosphere is minimal & clinical with hard white lighting, but thankfully you're distracted by the beautifully presented dishes in front of you.

I made a reservation at Atoboy - about a month out on a Wednesday night - when I read about Junghyun Park's 2023 James Beard nomination for best new chef. I was intrigued by the description of upscale Korean banchan and even more intrigued by a $75 prix fix inclusive of the service fee. I liked the simplicity of the decor. Some have described it as cafeteria style but I'd say it's definitely more upscale than that. I'd call it industrial chic. The host was extremely nice, offering me either a table immediately, or a much better table if I was willing to wait a few minutes. I opted for the latter and we were still seated a minute before our actual reservation time - despite the host's profuse apologies for the delay. As for the rest of the service - while friendly - I have to say that I felt uncomfortably rushed through the entire meal. Dishes came out so quickly that I always had at least half the previous dish on my plate and was chewing when the next one came out (and these are not large dishes by any means). It must have been mere minutes between courses. After the last course, they cleared the table while I still had half my rice bowl full and the banchan had been barely touched. We were in and out in under an hour, if that tells you anything. Despite that uncomfortable rush, the food was quite good. Every dish was extremely unique and each bite full or rich, decadent flavor.Starter:Sea Urchin - loved this, even though I don't always love sea urchin. It is perfectly prepared and the flavor, when mixed with dried seaweed, was quite delicious.First Course:Yellowtail - one of the best preparations of yellowtail I've ever had, I almost wish I had something to dip in the remaining sauce in the dish after I'd eaten all of the very fresh and perfectly textured yellowtail.Second Course:Octopus - normally I don't think that octopus needs to be or should be fried, but they did it just right here. It created a slightly crispy outside without affecting the texture of the rest of the dish.Third Course / Main:Served with a side of rice and two banchans to share, I chose the duck on the server's recommendation despite having read a yelp review about it being too rich. It is definitely rich - it's like eating foie gras - but I am a huge fan of foie gras so for me that was a major plus. I can see how it might be too heavy for some, though. It was plenty of food so as much as I would have liked to have tried the fried chicken, it would have been too much. There were several upgraded course options (tartare, scallop, pork) as well as the fried chicken add on, but we did not opt for any of those. All in all a very interesting, flavorful and decadent meal. Given that service is included (don't be fooled by the additional tip line on the bill) it is also very reasonably priced, even more so if you don't upgrade, add on, or have cocktails. Not sure if I would rush back given the experience, since this is somewhere you'd go for a special occasion but you probably don't want to be rushed out the door in an hour on a special occasion.
Be the first to ReplySister restaurant to the Michelin ATOMIX.
Good food and experience but not jumping at the chance to come back. The ambience and interior give a mix between industrial and korean cafeteria vibes. We could tell that they're going for a Michelin star at this restaurant. Pre-fix menu so definitely recommend coming with 2-3 people so you can try all the dishes. The portions look small but were quite filling. Each dish was quite interesting and flavors were compelling. However, some of them didn't hit the mark for us (would recommend to add the fried chicken). Their menu does rotate so just check before you go to make sure you like the items. They comped our drinks since we had to wait a few minutes before our table was ready. An interesting bathroom situation downstairs...
Be the first to ReplyAtoboy does not (!!) live up to the hype.
Have to say that I was quite disappointed with the overall experience. To begin with, the prices were quite high, and for the quality of food, I was expecting much more.I did have a good first impression with the uni dish. I love uni and this was a well-prepared and tasty dish. However, my satisfaction with the first dish was short-lived, as the other dishes that followed were a letdown. The duck and other meat dishes were difficult to chew and not at all enjoyable. The meat was so tough that I found it difficult to even take a bite. It was as if the dishes were overcooked or not prepared with proper care.Adding to my disappointment, the dishes were not original. I was hoping to try something new and unique, but instead, the menu featured dishes that are quite common in Korean cuisine. There was nothing that stood out or made me feel like I was experiencing something special.Lastly, I felt that the price I paid was not justified by the quality of the food. In fact, I could have gotten much better Korean food at a fraction of the cost at other restaurants in the city.
Be the first to ReplyI've been here 3 times now and it's been consistently
I've been here 3 times now and it's been consistently impressive. Don't live here, but make it a point to get a res here every time I visit bc it's just that consistently good. Their menu always changes, so you're never tired of it but you always know what to expect. How many restaurants can say they're familiar yet surprising every time? There's a handful of other Korean fusion restaurants in NYC and I always compare them to Atoboy--and none of them can compare. Plus $75 for a 4-course prix-fixe menu at this quality is such a steal! Definitely get the fried chicken add-on. The breading is the thinnest and lightest I've ever seen and the meat is succulent and tender. But I think what really takes it over the top is the unique peanut sauce--it's slightly sweeter than expected but balances the salt from the fried chicken brilliantly.
Be the first to ReplyI had an incredible dinner experience at Atoboy.
The restaurant has taken the traditional Korean banchan and elevated it to new heights with an innovative, large-format offering that is both delicious and affordable, thanks to their prix fixe menu.Every single bite of the food was outstanding, from the bold and flavorful dishes to the subtle and nuanced flavors. And to top it off, the restaurant also has an impressive wine selection that perfectly complements the food.To end the meal, I enjoyed a cup of hot tea and a delectable dessert, which was the perfect way to cap off an already wonderful dining experience.Overall, I highly recommend Atoboy for anyone looking for a unique and delicious culinary adventure. The food, wine, and service all combine to create a memorable and satisfying dining experience that will leave you wanting more.
Be the first to ReplyService team was great.
The food on the other hand was just good. The stand out dish by far was the yellowtail. Liked the fried chicken but not sure if I would recommend. Overall glad I tried it but wouldn't rush out to recommend.
Be the first to ReplyMy partner surprised me by taking me here for my birthday
My partner surprised me by taking me here for my birthday last month and I was blown away! Atoboy offers a prix fixe menu that is more affordable than their sister restaurant, Atomix, and comes with a pretty filling 5 course meal. For our meal, we got the:1st course- Donut (5/5): I had no idea what I was putting in my mouth but man, this was quite a tasty bite. 2nd course- Yellowtail (5/5): My partner chose this one and it was yummy! Very fresh, with some tasty little shoestring fries on top. - Wagyu tartar (5/5)**: At first, all I saw were mushrooms and thought, what the heck. But let me say, this was the most tender, flavorful tartar I've had. It's mixed with yuzu and paired well with the mushrooms. 3rd course- Beet (5/5): I love beets so maybe I'm biased but what a delicious take on a beet dish. - Octopus (5/5)***: My favorite dish - the octopus was SO juicy and came in fat chunks tossed in some sweet potato and cabbage spirals. Must order. 4th course- Cod (3/5): Nothing too special about this, just tasted like...fried cod. Not bad just wasn't anything out of the ordinary. - Pork belly (5/5)**: The better option from the 4th course, hands down. With this, you get juicy, tender pork belly with a sweet/salty glaze that lies under a bed of greens. This course is presented like a traditional Korean meal, with rice and banchan. The banchan (side dishes) were delicious, especially the soybean paste kimchi.5th course- Sujeonggwa granita (3/5): This is like a Korean shaved ice infused with sujeonggwa, which is a traditional cinnamon punch, on top of some lychee yogurt and burrata. I don't really like sujeonggwa to begin with so this was not my favorite. It was also weird to eat this with burrata but my partner liked the flavors. - Smoked cheesecake (4/5): My partner had this and said it was good (I don't like cheesecake so I didn't try it). All in all, the must haves are: wagyu tartar, octopus, and pork belly. We were told by our waiter that their menu changes every season so these may not be on the menu anymore. But if they are, try them out!! Definitely worth the $$ - food and service were wonderful.
Be the first to ReplySummary: $75/person tip-included looks like a great deal on
Summary: $75/person tip-included looks like a great deal on paper for a 5-6 course meal, but I felt that the flavor was still lacking and I would have preferred less quantity for more quality. Each plate was beautifully plated but flavor-wise lacked the kind of scrumptiousness that made you wish you had a larger portion. The entire meal was bailed out by just one dish - their amazing fried chicken, which was a $27 supplement. You must order this if you come here. We also really liked the pork belly. The menu is apparently seasonal and the only two items that are permanent are the 'egg' and the fried chicken.Review of the items we ordered:The 'donut' amuse-bouche (3/5): the donut component here was sterile and didn't synergize with the other components.Wagyu tartare (3/5): it looks beautiful, appearance-wise it's a work of art, but the wagyu tartare 'noodles' lacked flavor.Yellowtail (3/5): the same yellowtail crudo you'd find at a million other upscale restaurants but with the addition of shoestring potatoes. I didn't view this as a thoughtful fusion.Octopus (3.5/5): it's basically grilled octopus (which was cooked well) in a sauce of warm orange creamsicle ice cream with sweet potato texture. You'd get what I mean if you order this. I give them points for creativity but personally wasn't a huge fan of the orange flavor.Egg (3.5/5): this is one of their two permanent menu items. It's basically a steamed egg with shreds of dried nori seaweed. It was decent and tasted good but I don't know what to say - not that interesting or scrumptious?FRIED CHICKEN (5/5): this literally redeemed the entire meal. You must order this. This dish is this restaurant's contribution to the world. The batter is more like a tempura batter than fried chicken, and the creativity and execution here is marvelous. The meat itself is very tender and juicy. These are 'boneless wings'. It comes with a peanut sauce bearing resemblance to satay sauce, and a 'gochujang' that has some resemblance to American-Chinese sweet chili sauce. We were lost in the sauce as we ate this. Cod (3/5): back to regular programming. This was a cod in green scallion cream sauce with pecorino cheese grated on top. A little unusual to have this kind of dairy in this menu. This was decent but again, recurring theme, lacked scrumptiousness.Pork belly (5/5): this is a cute 'dish' bearing resemblance to a traditional Korean supper. You get the pork belly which is glazed with this sweet teriyaki-like sauce, kimchi, this tofu and mushroom banchan, and a bowl of rice. This had the scrumptiousness we were looking for. Very satisfying and tasted great. I will say this is not miles better than the same dish you can get at a good generic Korean restaurant, but this was very well executed and a bright spot in the meal for sure. The tofu banchan was really good, as was the kimchi.Lychee burrata walnut granita (3/5): it sounds cool on paper, the tartness from lychee, fat from burrata, nuttiness from the walnuts. It didn't really work well together for meSmoked cheesecake (3.5/5): a standard cheesecake with some sweet 'jam' topping. Nothing pushing the envelope. In conclusion: I would temper your expectations overall and highly recommend you order the fried chicken and pork belly if you come.

Very unique experience - light on the alcohol choices, but their Korean menu was definitely very upscale, quick, and delicious. The main dishes that stood out were the mushroom tartar. The uni and other various seafood platters were quite delicious as well, but not mindblowing (hard given the competition in NYC).The fried chicken is a must get, especially if you are hungry. Without it, the meal does not feel complete and is light.Overall, the food was different enough from Atomix that I would recommend this for a more casual dinner.
