Azalea New York Reviews from The Last Year

My new theatre district find! Close to WICKED and Circle in the Square as well as Radio City, I was pleasantly surprised by how delightful a lunch we had. Loved the food, great bread, Caprese salad, Paninis big enough to split with high end ingredients, and even the fries were good! Service was warm, attentive and professional. Noise level good for conversation and bathrooms accessible and squeaky clean! Prices decent for the area. Well managed and good for anyone- families, solo diners, and couples, friends meeting pre or post theatre. My only complaint is why did I take so long to come here after walking past it for years! I'll be back!

Great place for pre-show drinks! I would recommend the Italian Margarita. Surprisingly refreshing.

Azalea is a wonderful gem smack dab in the Theater District - complete with a lunch prix fix and dinner prix fix (if you like). They offer very nice personable service in a warm setting that has a nice ambiance whether dining with friends, family or a date. They have a diverse clientele, and treat everyone well. My dining companion and I both agreed we'd be back! I started with the fried cheese mozzarella over some delicious tomato sauce, that with 2 generous blocks of cheese could have been a meal in itself! The sauce was so tasty that you wanted to dip the yummy bread in it over and over again!! The chicken parm was also very tasty, and so good, I was regretting eating lunch before because this was so hearty, I could barely eat half -- leftovers for dinner either the fresh pasta!! For dessert I had the blueberry cheesecake which was nice with the fresh berries stuffed into the slice with graham cracker crust but too full to fully enjoy with the fresh strawberries and whipped topping!! Go with hungry friends who like to share!!!
Great food and service! Highly recommend if you want to eat
Great food and service! Highly recommend if you want to eat good homemade Italian food! Will come again next time we are in NYC!
Great location in theater district.
Italian tomatoe sauces were excellent. Appetizers were delicious. The short ribs were well portioned and fall off the bone tender. Desert finished the evening with a superb pistachio layered cheese cake. Servers were very attentive. Pricing was as expected for the city. In all a pleasant dining experience before attending the theater.
New place for us, will be back
Overall very nice. Calamari, bruschetta and a calamari salad were the apps, all enjoyed. 2 had the chicken azalea which was tender and seasoned well. I had pasta borganese which I liked a lot. Drinks were a little on the weak side. Service was very good. Nice atmosphere, will definitely go back.

Coming into see a play "Wicked" we found this place and would definitely recommend it , especially if going to a show as in the heart of the theater district. The Italian food is outstanding the meatball appetizer are just the right starter, the service was prompt without rushing you. The only downside would be seating is a little tight, but not to the point where you too close.
The food was very good - it was a pleasant surprise.
We wanted dinner after seeing a broadway show- the were open until 11 pm . The staff was friendly and polite.
A great Italian bistro for pre-theater dinner.
It's right at 51st street level in the building next door to the Gershwin Theater currently showing Wicked. Look for the red awning under the bright marquee lights. Inside, the restaurant is quite intimate. Reservations are a good idea and we had ours at 5:30 so that we could make it to our 7:30 curtain for Back to the Future. Of course, my sisters and wife are all late, but our server knew the schedule and kept everything rolling. Starting with antipasto, the crispy Fried Calamari was on point with 2 types of dipping sauce, aioli and marinara. We also had the zuppe del giorno, which was a creamy butternut squash soup and it was kicked up with lobster meat. The 4 of us decided to split 2 bowls, but they served them in 4 bowls anyway, pouring the soup from a carafe in each bowl. That was cool! For our entrees, my two sisters split Linguine Vongole with a good amount of clams and the Chicken Milanese, a crunchy scaloppine of chicken breast. My wife went with Lasagna Bolognese, a special of the day and I went with Pappardelle with an Osso Bucco Ragu. The pasta was awesome as fresh made pasta always is, with a perfect al dente texture that cannot be beat. I really wish that we had time for dessert but we'll have to wait until next time, because the curtain calls!
The food was mid.
My husband had the prefix and the chicken was really dry and boring. The calamari salad had cucumbers that were not fresh. The cheesecake was fine - but straight out of the fridge so that's hard to mess up. The strangest part was that the mocktails were as expensive as a glass of wine. The service was great. Unfortunately would not recommend due to price for quality of food. Ambiance was decent though slightly cold.
Location.
Location. Location. You can't beat the location if you're going to Wicked. But the food is just so-so. The butternut squash soup of the day was so very bland, I truly question whether it had a single spice in it. The bruschetta was good. The spaghetti bolognese was okay. And the red velvet cake of the day was shockingly dry. But, again, we were three steps from getting in line to enter the theater.
EXCELLENT!
Fantastic from start to finish. We were planning to have the preset pre show menu but decided to have the specials instead.... BEST lobster ravioli ever!! Asparagus soup was also delicious. My husband enjoyed the caesar salad and lasagna, Waiter, Jhonny. was very friendly and informatie .Would highly recommend.
Lovely Italian food, lovely people!!
We came across this restaurant by chance as we needed somewhere near to our hotel due to the lousy weather - Azalea was just a block away. They accommodated a party of 7 without trouble and all staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food that we all had was excellent. I can highly recommend this Italian!!!
Dinner before seeing Wicked at the Gershwin
In the City for Wicked that evening. Dinner (braised short ribs, chicken parm, chicken azalea, etc.)and service were outstanding. originally were a party of 5 but they were nice enough to add a last minute sixth. highly recommend
Food disappointing, rude staff, quick dinner
We went before a Broadway show and I was so disappointed. I figured since it had mostly good reviews, that the food would be at least good. My salmon was wildly undercooked and when I asked for them to take it back the waiter was very rude and said 'ok so you DON'T want it medium', implying I didn't know how to cook salmon. Drinks were ok and the calamari appetizer was good and they got us out in time for the show. Definitely will not be going back.
Good choice for pre-theater dinner - 4.25 stars
Finally got to try this place one evening before the theater - glad I did. There is a $55 pre-fixe dinner menu with four appetizer options, four entree options and three dessert options - my friend chose this, saving five dollars versus the regular pricing. On the other hand, I really wanted to try the pear salad appetizer, so I went a la carte. This turned out to be smart, as the pear salad was the best item of the meal - nicely warmed (grilled?) pears with lettuce, nuts and a tasty blue cheese "fondue". We both had the salmon for the entree - and we both were tempted to send it back as it really would have benefitted from another minute or two of cooking. We decided against it, particularly since we were near a high maintenance table (where someone ordered a lemon pasta dish and then sent it back because it had lemon) and did not want to trouble the staff. Next time I return, I will definitely ask for it to be medium-well to hope it comes out medium (by the way, the salmon does have some diced olives in it and this is not noted on the menu, so ask for them to be held if, like me, you don't care for them. The affogato was a perfect way to finish my meal, getting my dessert and coffee at the same time. Daniel and the team did a nice job with service, always checking in and filling up the water glasses - they won't let you be late for the show. Will go again in the future, either to try the salmon with the modifications above or perhaps one of the tasty sounding pastas (or chicken parm) on the menu
Great food and great team
Adam and the team at Azalea are great. The food was increíble, highly recommend the Chicken Azalea and Ricotta and Pistachio cake. The cake was not super sweet which made it perfect. The restaurant is right next to the Gershwin theater where Wicked is showing. Adam took great care of us so ask for him!
Musical Waiting Area
Azalea is a better than average Italian Restaurant however, excellent for the Theatre District. With that in mind…they have excellent service, great appetizers and heavy poured drinks.
Comfortable room near Broadway with reasonable food
The location is convenient to theaters. The space is roomy and comfortable. The cocktails are interesting. The food is adequate (nothing exceptional but nothing bad). The service is attentive.
Lovely lunch
Lovely restaurant right next to the Gershwin theatre. GF pasta options. We enjoyed our meal and at lunch time it was very quiet and a nice place to have great conversation.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
