3.5/5 Excited I got to try out this spot! Bangia is a restaurant located downstairs, and has a classic pocha vibe. It's dark, with lots of string lights, neon signs, and music. Very club/restaurant fusion. There are a number of waiters on the floor, but i dont think youre assigned one waiter, which can make it confusing on who to flag down. Me and a friend got the Bangia Gimlet and Matcha rice wine. The matcha rice wine has that distinct rice wine flavor, and a light matcha taste. The gimlet was really strong and lemony! We also tried the jjangjang seafood tteokbokki in a fermented black soybean sauce. It came with plenty of squid and shrimp, and a hard boiled egg on top. It's sweet and savory, and plenty of seafood flavor! We also got the seafood pancake which was crispy outside and soft inside! I wish the side sauce was stronger in flavor. Lastly, we got the tuna mayo rice balls, which were my favorite part! Dishes ranged from $20-$35 per dish, so a little high, but would be fun for a big group to share!

Incredible gastropub and I've never had jjajangmyeon tteokbokki (I forget what it is called) but now I'll never have anything else. Beware though, everything is spicy as hell!
Be the first to ReplyYear after year this place is still my TOP fav pocha.
The food portion is huge, and most of all the workers here are all just so funny and have top tier service. They joke around with you while making sure that you have everything you need, and are part of the experience. It's very spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating with great alcoholic drinks that are so yummy and sweet! They also have weekday deals of like signature cocktails for only 10 dollars on a Tuesday, etc. so you can really come here any time of the week and have a great time!

It was really pretty. Pretty scared out seating. Had the soju cocktail (liter) with kimchi pork pancake and army stew. Both were pretty good. I came with party of 6 there was no wait on weeknight.

Was recommended to come to Bangia in NYC's K-Town for the Soju/Makgeolli Bingsoo by a couple of TikTok videos, and was unfortunately disappointed by the hype. My friend and I went on a Thursday night, in which Bangia offers $3 shots, IIRC, which we had decided to skip out on as we were excited for the Bingsoo. We ordered a Mango Bingsoo with Soju and a Lychee Bingsoo with Makgeolli to share, both of which tasted like they lacked alcohol. The Bingsoo also melted relatively fast, after receiving it for a couple of minutes, the Bingsoo had melted into a drink. One plus to the Bingsoos was the mochi bits inside of it, which were fun to eat. On top of everything, service was also incredibly slow. The restaurant was pretty empty since it was a Thursday night, but it took forever for our two Bingsoos to come, and also for our check as well. The table next to us also voiced frustration when it took them a while to receive their check. IIRC, it took ~2-3 reminders to receive the check. Not sure if I'd come back again, since there are definitely other restaurants in the K-Town area that offer better food with better service.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the worst NYC restaurant experiences that I have had.
Went there Friday night and waited 20-30 minutes for a table for three. Not a terribly long wait but what made it feel awful was that the staff told us from the jump that the wait would be a "few minutes" and that they were just cleaning a table. They kept telling us this throughout the whole wait. The food was atrocious. The army stew was just like two instant ramen packs with some cut up sausage. No clue why anyone would willingly pay $35 for that. Also got the bulgogi which was fine and unmemorable but overpriced at $27 at a stingy portion size. +1 star but probably being a good place to drink, although my party did not drink

LOCATION: E 32nd St (in between 5th & Madison) WHAT WE ORDERED: * Bing Mac ($8) * Lychee Soju Cocktail ($7.25) - really tasty, but on the sweeter side. * Spicy Rice Cake with Stir-Fried Pork ($33.49) * Spicy Squid & Pork Belly ($32.49) - Too salty for my liking. I should've gotten something else because this tasted like the rice cake dish. The food had huge portions. It was way more than enough for two people. As NYC tourists, we didn't even get to eat our leftovers because we wanted to try other food. The price was on the higher end. My favorite part was the extra steamed egg on the house! Our server noticed we devoured it super quickly, so they gave us another hahaha. Service was quick and attentive. Super cozy and intimate Korean pub.

Unfortunately was not able to get any photos of the night, but Bangia competed well against the Pochas from LA Ktown. Their lychee and strawberry soju cocktails were delicious!!!! Service was extremely fast and friendly. The budaejiggae was SO comforting and the perfect amount of saltiness to complement the alcohol. Really fun and cozy interior. Super fun place!!

7.5/10 - Spicy Rice Cakes with Pork 7/10 - chapaguri 8.5/10 - lychee soju cocktail Fun and casual korean pub to hangout with friends! Service was pretty quick, but a bit hard to communicate since it was fairly loud in the restaurant. The food was definitely good, but not the best for the price in my opinion. Definitely be aware that the portions are large!

Whenever i'm in k-town I always find myself back here because it's just the best spot for friend hangouts. Especially for their $3.00 shot Thursdays, which is a crazy steal in NYC. Even if it's on a day that they don't offer their special prices for drinks, which happens to be satureday, I still always get their lychee soju carafe. As a girlie who doesn't like the taste of alcohol at all, they add enough lychee juice to make the soju tasty. Be warned that the items I got are all on the spicier side except for the fried pork belly so if you have a lower spice tolerance, I would suggest opting for their other menu items that always hit the spot as well. Overall, I love Bangia, and you'll definitely find me coming back over and over again.

Solid Korean pub food! Came here on a Saturday night and waited about 20-30 minutes for a table for four. They serve seaweed soup and steamed egg complimentary and both were really good. We got the grilled pork belly, army stew, and seafood pancake. The only thing is that the seafood pancake could have been crispier. Portions are pretty big and I would definitely come back.
Be the first to ReplyBig ole Korean comfort food.
Pricy but very big portions. Not much else to speak on. Can get busy so put your name down.
Be the first to ReplyRATING: 6/10 DIdn't love the food here.
As someone who grew up eating a lot of Korean food, especially from Queens I find that often times Korean food in the city is priced much higher for something that doesn't hit the mark as well. I get it, it's the city, so a different price range is expected to some extent. SEAFOOD PANCAKE - love seafood pancake, but this was a bit dry, not too chewy, and didn't have that robust fresh seafood flavor you look for. SPICY SEAFOOD TTEOKBEOKKI - the rice cake texture was on point, but the sauce wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked and the seafood didn't feel -super- fresh tasting unfortunately . CHAPAGGURI W PORK BELLY - the pork belly was cut into bits and quite crispy, was hoping for more fatty pieces. Chappaguri is instant noodle which is expected so this was just fine. STRAWBERRY MAKGEOLI - tasted like a strawberry smoothie, which was yummy, not too boozy at all, and a bit sweet. FINAL CATEGORY: OK (terrible ./ bad / OK / good. / great / excellent)
Be the first to ReplyFun spot with good Korean bar food.
Def come with friends so you can share stuff. All their drinks are great. Service is impeccable.

Looking for a hidden gem in the bustling Ktown scene? Look no further than Bangia, a cozy and welcoming Korean bar and restaurant located underground - just like a speakeasy.Despite its name, Bangia is anything but half-baked when it comes to their food and drinks. In fact, their menu is full of delicious Korean dishes that are sure to satisfy any craving, from crispy fried chicken to savory pancakes to hearty stews. And let's not forget about the drinks - with plenty of beer and soju on hand, you're sure to find the perfect libation to pair with your meal. But what really sets Bangia apart from other pochas in the area is the atmosphere. The cozy underground space is perfect for a fun night out with friends or a romantic date. And the attentive servers and clean, inviting atmosphere only add to the experience.Whether you're in the mood for a hearty meal or just a few drinks with friends, Bangia is the perfect spot. So why not venture underground and discover this hidden gem for yourself? With its great vibes and delicious food and drinks, it's sure to become a new favorite in your Ktown repertoire.
Be the first to ReplyIt's pretty impressive Bangia has remained steadily packed
It's pretty impressive Bangia has remained steadily packed on any given night pretty much since they opened over a decade ago. They appear to be immune from the typical bell curve of a restaurant's busy cycle, and this mostly has to do with their ability to satisfy the drunchies. The typical K-town reveler is downing flavored soju, makgeolli, and vodka sodas, and there are few better things to chase this with than noodles, rice cakes, and fried chicken. Follow all of this with more soju and beer, and you have yourself a good time, which can be had at Bangia (if you're willing to wait). If you show up and there are no tables available, they do have a waitlist system and will text you when a table opens up. They also have heated outdoor seating in a shed if you're willing to sacrifice some ambiance, though there isn't much to speak of that inside either. You're really there for the vats of soup, cheese topped noodles, and fried food, all of which they do well here. I particularly like the army stew on a cold night, or their rice cakes any other time of year.Come summer, unless you go during off peak it's impossible to get a table at Banjia or any of the other popular K-town spots. So if you have your sights set on this place, make a reservation or avoid peak weekend hours.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a great spot if you're looking for a place to drink
This is a great spot if you're looking for a place to drink with your friends, while also enjoying some good Korean food to share! For a restaurant with more of a pocha/gastropub vibe, Bangia has surprisingly good food (albeit at pocha-level prices). Service is great and the staff are incredibly friendly and generous with the complimentary dishes.Budae Jjigae - 4/5 One of the more milder army stews that I've had, but the taste is nice and it comes with all the components that you'd expect from a traditional budae jjigae (sausages, noodles, etc.). Spicy Rice Cakes - 4/5 Texture was missing a bit of the signature chewiness that tteokbokki should have and the dish was quite oily, but overall taste was nothing to complain about and was great! Would definitely recommend getting one of the dishes with cheese (like this one), as it paired really nicely with the sauce. Spicy Pork & Squid - 3.5/5 Wasn't too memorable because the sauce was the same or very similar to the spicy rice cakes, but still tasted great. The place gets quite busy on the weekends, so we weren't able to see the vibes inside, but will definitely try to visit again to check it out!
Be the first to ReplyVery nice Korean restaurant / bar.
Came here a few times and enjoyed it every time. Good lychee martinis. Friendly staff. Complimentary steamed egg. What more to ask for? Will come back again next time.
Be the first to ReplyFood is amazing here, be prepared for family style eating.
My most recent favorite dish is the Spicy Rice Cakes with Pork, Kimchi, and Mozzarella. The Beef Rice Cake dish was great for something mild/not spicy and I've previously eaten the army stew and bulgogi here as well. A good selection of cocktails and Korean sojus. It may have been our seats but the music was blaring early on in the night (7pm), so much so that it was difficult to hear the people at our own table. The restaurant seemed busy, we weren't ready to immediately order which then drastically delayed the process, with drinks coming out after all of the food and about 30 minutes after we ordered them. Preview the menu ahead of time do you can at least get drinks while figuring out the rest!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service, great vibe, great drinks and food.
Couldn't recommend it enough. They also speak English so those who don't speak Korean shouldn't be afraid to check it out!

I absolutely love this restaurant! The waiters are always so nice, the vibe is always fun , happy and a bit chaotic (I love that too) and I've been here several times and the service and welcoming attitude of the staff has never once missed a beat. Just consistent all the way around! Great job to the staff and the management team. Thank you guys SO MUCH. I have no pics because everytime I go me and my friends are always having such a good time

This is a bit of a hard review to score because the food is pretty decent. But the price is a bit ourageous. Coming from LA korean food, this is by far subpar. The rice cake was hard and firm. 4/5 for the sauce and toppings The fried chicken did not hit. It was not super crispy. 2/5 for the korean fried chicken. The army stew was my favorite but it was a bit interesting to have pork belly and pepperoini in it!Dam the flavored makgeolli was $35 for a bottle. Wtf....Kind of expensive. If you go in with the expectation that it is wildly overpriced, you'll have a great time.

I made a reservation online and their automated system will spam you to remind you of your reservation. There's a 10% discount when you pay in cash. I arrived 10 min early and was able to be seated without my full party. I love the décor. Hooks for belongings along the walls and QR codes to view the menu. What stood out to me was the exceptional staff here; masked, polite, and multiple waiters for all the tables rather than just 1. They gave the table a free seaweed with clam soup for the table to start. We ordered chicken wings (2 flavors) and then the army stew. Both were delicious but I wouldn't say it was exceptional. Since we dined in on a Tuesday, their daily special was $9.99 for their signature cocktails (compared to the usual $16.25!). I liked how I didn't feel rushed out when we were done. Really recommend!

Came on a Saturday night expecting a wait but we were seated almost immediately. They have indoor and outdoor seating available! Before entering the restaurant, someone will check for IDs. They serve large portions - highly recommend ordering dishes to share for the table. We ordered the Budae Jeongol (Army Stew), tofu and kimchi with pork, and spicy chicken. The Budae Jeongol was perfect for the chilly night. A bit more tomatoey from the mature kimchi. They also give tables a complimentary steamed egg, great to balance out from the spicier dishes.
