Banya Hana Osaka Reviews from The Last Year
Excellent Teriyaki Bento boxes! Served with teriyaki
Excellent Teriyaki Bento boxes! Served with teriyaki chicken, tempura vegetables and shrimp, sushi, salad with a yummy miso salad dressing, and a flavorful soup. It's filling, flavorful. It's my favorite every time I go!
Excellent sushi and sashimi! Very fresh and clean seafood.
Authentic Japanese food. Always busy and just one wait person, but they do a fantastic job! Eat here often and tip well, and you will have a happy life. :)

For this 1/2 Japanese woman, I say it's the best Japanese
For this 1/2 Japanese woman, I say it's the best Japanese restaurant around! Chicken katsu is made with breast meat. Tonkatsu is made with pork loin. My mom, who was born and raised in Japan, and 100% Japanese, likes their nabeyaki udon. My husband and son like their sashimi. Daughter likes their curry. This restaurant is always packed - both lunch and dinner. You might miss this little place in the Safeway plaza near Taco Bell and Dotty's. Don't be fooled by the mediocre outside because when you go in, you'll feel like you've stepped into an authentic place complete with japanese decor. Service is so-so and can be a little slow. They're not rude or anything, just don't seem to have any pep to their step. Have patience, your food will be worth the wait. For reference, I am adding a picture of their current hours (both google and yelp are wrong). Oh, they have a *delicious* saba mackerel lunch and dinner entree which I often get so I don't stink up my kitchen at home cooking for myself.
Always great.
..This is such a treat for us....Service is deliberate and consistent with great respect and care.. Ambiance is ok, more fun sitting at the bar to watch the chef prepare everything...
I did take outs but recently I dined in for the first in
I did take outs but recently I dined in for the first in awhile. We were one of the first to get seats but the ordering still took forever. With two servers who are also a little older plus maybe fewer people making food, our meal took 2 hours and we had to reach out to them and stop them in the middle of serving. I'm sorry we did that but the line was also incredibly long so we felt bad for waiting or staying longer. Aside from that, let's talk about the food! I got the tonkatsu lunch bento for $13. First of all, the price was very reasonable, other Japanese restaurants in the area would have the price start at $16 or so. Their fried things were very good in the past and they still ARE! Flaky, light, no oily feeling, it was fried wonderfully. The tempura shrimp did shrink a good amount but the shrimp and the veggies were fried wonderfully, too. The rice was lovely too, there is a difference! It also came with salad and miso soup and four california rolls and a little vinegar cucumber salad. We then ordered amae ebi (甘えエビ)sweet shrimp. They fry the head so it was very crunchy but sadly it was cold. The ebi was so sweet, juicy, and light. I loved it. If it wasn't almost $7, I would've ordered more servings haha. Anyways, I loved the meal though service was slow and because it was overwhelming for them, the service was not always nice.
FIRST: Hours are wrong.
I have tried to submit a photo to Yelp to have them correct it but they seem to not care. The restaurant closes promptly in the 8 o'clock hour. OK with that out of the way. The restaurant feels like you've stepped into a new world. They have no windows open to the shopping plaza, so the rice paper and wood light fixtures, sushi bar, and overall vibe make you feel almost like you've stepped into a family living room. The same people appear to have run this restaurant for many years. They have two lines of business - a fully featured Japanese menu, including daily specials then also a sushi menu that you use a pen and piece of paper provided at each table to order a number of rolls from. My dining companion usually orders off the regular menu and I usually order sushi. The sushi is OK, it doesn't "WOW!" me but it has always filled me up and been tasty, especially at the prices they charge. My partner's full dinner feels like a real bargain coming with a surimi salad (cucumbers, rice noodles, rice vinegar, sesame seed) and miso soup along with the main entree. This place is worth a try if you're in the mood for a family run Japanese restaurant with consistency over the years. Not much changes here, they aren't chasing trends, but the place has many repeat customers as noted here. I cannot speak to authenticity as I am not very knowledgeable about Japanese food.
Ikenohana was always a childhood favorite of mine so I
Ikenohana was always a childhood favorite of mine so I thought I would bring my son here for date night. We arrived around 5:30 on a weekday and it was only about half full. I was happy to see that the menu was the same as when I was a kid and we both ordered my go to, Bento A. It includes a perfect mix with tempura, sashimi, chicken teriyaki, tonkatsu and tuna/cucumber maki. Everything is cooked perfectly with the tempura light and crispy, the teriyaki tender and the tonkatsu juicy with a crunchy exterior. Service was quick and friendly and our included salads and soup arrived quickly. The portion was filling and satisfying. My son said this is his new favorite sushi restaurant and it will be a regular for date nights!
Simply delicious.
Decent prices for the quality of food. It's my go to when I want something nicer than track sushi and my husband (who doesn't like seafood) has a lot of options to pick from with their regular menu.
It is a recommended delicious izakaya located in the office district of Kitahama.
"Banya Hana" A short 6 to 7-minute walk from Sakaisuji-Hommachi, this is a cozy restaurant with a calming atmosphere. The seating consists solely of a "Konoji( "L" turned sideways to the right.)" shaped counter encircling the cooking area. You get to watch the ingredients being prepared right in front of you, and the dishes are served immediately, all of which are quite delicious. They have recently added an English menu, making it easier for international guests to understand, and quite a few visitors from overseas have been coming. There's also a wide selection of Japanese sake available. Those who enjoy Japanese sake will likely be satisfied. To start, you should definitely try the sashimi, followed by either a fried or grilled dish, and the "dashi-maki tamago" (rolled omelet with broth) is a must. There are many other menu items that will leave you deliberating over what to choose. The operation is run by just two people, so service can slow down when the restaurant gets busy, but please take the time to enjoy the experience. It's recommended to visit in pairs, or up to three people at most.
We decided to try a new sushi joint.
The place is extremely small. My family got all of their sushi. I had to wait another 45 minutes to get my Bento box. We were literally there for an hour and 40 minutes. The sushi wasn't extraordinary it was average.
This is a small and authentic-looking Japanese restaurant
This is a small and authentic-looking Japanese restaurant nestled in a plaza. The curry is a must order! My friend had the curry rice and I had the curry udon, both were so much better than Glico cubes! They were both thick, creamy, and filled with good flavors. The suki udon had so many flavors inside that we couldn't tell if we liked it or not. Ikenohana probably isn't known for sushi as there wasn't much variety in the rolls--definitely catered towards more of a western audience. The waitresses were very sweet, helpful, and attentive.
