Barbetta New York Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing secret place .
Service is marvelous. Food is uniquely delicious Italian. Creative imaginative and a step back in time .
Had dinner here after our matinee.
The ambiance is great. Old school fine dining. Sat outdoors since it was 4:30pm on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Lovely outdoor space. Service was attentive. They only had the Theatre Price Fixx menu in effect. Choice of an appetizer, a main and a dessert, coffee and salad included, for $63 per person. I started with the buffalo mozzarella, had the charcoal grilled swordfish as my main, and had the orange chocolate mousse as my dessert (with a decafe cappuccino). All were fresh and delicious. (My only quibble is that I thought both the appetizer and the main could have been larger). The bill, with drinks (I had three Peroni's) tax and a generous tip came to $125 per person. Will definitely return after our next matinee.
Excellent Italian food in a historic building with outdoor seating
Last Wednesday I had lunch with a friend at Barbetta. I had been there once before the pandemic. The restaurant is unique in several ways. It is in the restaurant district in midtown. It may be the oldest family run restaurant in Manhattan since it was started in 1906. It is built in a row of brownstones. It is incredibly elegant inside and has outdoor garden seating in the ready. We sat outside. They have a large menu, with dates in brackets beside many dishes. This represents the year th3 fish was added to the menu. They also have a large wine list, primarily Italian. This is an Italian fine dining restaurant. Fortunately they have a three course lunch menu priced at $41. They also feature two wine, a red and a white, priced at $12/glass or $55/bottle. This is the route we chose. There are six appetizer, five entree and three dessert choices. I asked the waiter for suggestions and went for the whole wheat penne pasta with a ragu of meat sauce to start, followed by the linguine al pesto. Both were good choices. We both had strawberries with zabaglione for dessert. It was a good lunch. Are there negatives? The dessert was pre plated, meaning the zabaglione was not whipped tsbleside and served warm. It was a cold dish. Otherwise, everything else was great. The pricing is good for midtown Manhattan. We would return.
Ambiance and Service is fabulous.
Eduardo was a treat to meet and added personality and character to the evening. The food was great and reasonably priced. Highly recommend
My first experience there was horrible.
And it was my birthday! Where to start...well, when we were seated, we notice an ant crawling n our utensils. The busboy changed them for us and apologized. The waiter that came to take our order was sneezing and coughing over my husband. The just found it strange that as soon as he came by us, that happened. Before he came and after he left us and all the rest of the night, he did not sneeze. Then after we got our appetizer, he kept coming over hovering over my husband and his food asking how is the food, etc. Hubby was so turned off. Afraid some of his spit flew in his soup. Then when it was time to order our main course, the menu was so confusing and wounded up getting something completely different than what we thought we ordered. So instead of calling over the waiter for fear of him talking to us so close, we just decided to eat it. We did not like it. So between him and the busboy, we could not eat in peace. He was worrying about why I am not eating something and the busboy constantly asking if we were finished with this or with that. What I will say was nice was the fact our waiter brought over some Crème Brulée with a candle and sung happy birthday to me. But after that, we saw another ant crawling on our table. Needless to say, we took one bite of the desserts, which was not good by the way, and left.

Located in the Theatre District, Barbetta is a timeless, classy, & historic establishment serving top - notch dining. Food - 9/10, the unlimited warm rolls were to die for, the food is delectable. However, we were unaware that the dinner menu is prix-fixed & many items we wanted to try were not on that menu. Drinks - 10/10...the wine variety is extensive Service - 10/10 - white gloved with attention to detail, definition of "fine dining" Atmosphere - classy, yet a homely warm feeling, as if you're having Sunday dinner at a wealthy relative's home Parking - located next to numerous trains and buses - would not recommend trying to find parking here Vegan friendly - Yes They also play happy birthday on the piano which is such a nice touch.

Authentic Italian
We were at Barbetta last night and did not have a reservation. The staff were all welcoming and attentive throughout. The food is Piemontese Italian with many traditional dishes and an excellent selection of wines. All the dishes that we chose were delicious and my friend, who lived in Piemonte for many years, said they were authentic in both taste and presentation. The prices are quite high but this is central New York! I would definitely visit again.
Barbetta is located in the heart of the theatre district
Barbetta is located in the heart of the theatre district with a staff who respects your need to be at the theatre on time. Great food. I love the menu detail which shows when that item was added to the menu. Yes, the minestrone soup has been on the menu for decades... and with good reason!
The oldest "Italian" in NY
A historic Italian restaurant a stone's throw from Times Square. Slightly old-fashioned furnishings but a charming place that offers classic and well-made Italian/Piedmontese cuisine. Discreet service and wine list. The only flaw is that the curtains on the windows require urgent washing at the dry cleaners. Account in the norm.
Amazing Dining Experience
I came here with a mentor/friend in between Broadway shows. This is a highly ranked restaurant for her. She wasn't wrong. From the ambiance to the food to the waitstaff (Eduardo in particular!), I had an amazing dining experience.
Food was fine.
Nothing wrong with it, but nothing blew my mind. Went for restaurant week, so I suppose it was a decent deal. I got the salmon, which was cooked nicely and served with crisp seasoned picked cucumbers and sauce. The pesto linguini was a little dry and too Al dente for my taste. Resulting in a heavy, dry feeling after I ate it. I was full for hours afterward from the whole meal. Pear dessert cooked in a red wine sauce was a pleasant little something different than the usual, but I wished it was a little warm, as I imagined a poached fruit type dessert cooked in a nice sauce, so I thought it would be warm. Overall, a good meal. Ambiance was old and dated, with an older dining crowd as well.

We came here after seeing a show since it was close by and I was deceived by the website. There was only a Prix fixe menu and we were told the ala cart menu isn't available until after 8pm. We decided to stay and try the menu. The food was just acceptable. Nothing great. Mozzarella and tomato is plain. Not even a balsamic drizzle. I had the roasted vegetable soup (the best part of the meal). My companion had the salmon which was good mostly because of the cucumber herb purée under it. I had chicken and fennel. The chicken was thin and dry with no real seasoning. The fennel wasn't worth eating as it had no flavor. The salad was just base greens with vinaigrette. Not even a tomato in sight. Dessert was the best part. I wouldn't bother coming here again. The staff was very attentive and friendly so they earned this place another star or I would have done 2 stars.
Subpar food, disappointing experience
Given this restaurant’s story, the quality of the food was really disappointing. We both did the fixed price pre-theater dinner. I had the rabbit, which was tough, and my companion had the Bue de Barolo, which was a lot like meatloaf. As far as fine dining goes, you can do better for the price. Unfortunately, I think this restaurant’s finest days are long behind it.

Beautiful interior and clearly a restaurant with lots of history. Service was good as well. However 3 stars since the food was okay and did not justify the price tag. I got the gnocchi which I felt was a bit stickier than I would have liked. Overall, felt that the food was overpriced for what it was.
The perfect evening
Absolutely wonderful each time we go. Tonight it was a birthday. We asked for a quiet corner table, and it was all ready for us, a request often ignored at other restaurants. Our dinner was amazing! Old school northern Italian specialties including an assortment of antipasto as appetizers, delicious home made pasta dishes, lanb and venison for main course and topped off with the best desserts! The wine list is perfect as were the Negronis that we started with. Special thank you to Ramon, the captain, who made us feel so special! Can’t wait to go back.
Return visit as terrific as the first time
We made a return visit after four years and were equally pleased with our first time. Barbetta is simply great. A couple disclaimers: If you’re looking for innovation, go elsewhere. If you have a super American palate and only appreciate salt or sugar-laden food, this is not your place. If you want modern chic decor and trendiness, consider other options. Finally, their á la carte menu is not offered Tuesday through Saturday between 4:30 and 7pm if they are extremely busy, but is always available starting at 7:30pm. If you have your heart set on something not on the prix fixe menu, book outside that window to avoid being disappointed. Barbetta feels like walking into a spectacular time capsule. The food is traditional to northern Italy and prepared as it would be in Europe. Our appetizer of prosciutto snd melon was impeccably simple snd delicious. My Bue al Barolo (braised beef with polenta) was comfort food at its best. The venison was perfectly cooked and the poached apple served alongside was very tasty and seasonally appropriate. The espresso chocolate cake was like a piece of barely-sweet fudge with pure cocoa flavor and the lemon pistachio tart was reminiscent of a fantastic key lime pie. Service at Barbetta is always a top notch experience, with men in white jackets and bow toes catering to our every need. We just love it there and can’t recommend it highly enough!
A mixed night at Barbetta on Restaurant Row, NYC
Beautiful and classic dining room, and depending on who serves you, it can be joyous or boring. Same with the food: one Italian appetizer we had was brilliant (pasta with pesto) and one was just mediocre. And what is with the mashed potatoes: green! Ok, but no flavor that I would ever want to taste again. The mousse was fine, and would have been better served with a small pastry or cookie. I just love the history of the place; but a few modern touches in the food would be most welcome. A bonus: not irritating music playing; we actually could have a lovely conversation at dinner. Great hostess! Lots of flair. One of the head waiters (in black dress clothes) was delightful, one was just flat and boring in his approach. So, overall a mixed experience, but we are so glad the place exists and people who carp about the "outdated" dining room are just idiots.
Mediocre Food
We went here for a date night one evening in June and there was plenty that was left to be desired from our meal. The ambiance is fine - a bit dated and stale. The staff were friendly and moderately attentive but didn't go out of their way / above and beyond. All that said, what really drove this rating, was the average (At best) quality of food. The bread tasted stale, the swordfish was bland and unimaginative (no vegetables/garnishes to go with it really), and thus difficult to get through. Skipped dessert simply because we do not want the sugar nor calories though we are confident it would not have changed out opinion.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

Give the best answerNewbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
