Barrafina coal drops yard
Me and my two boys (18 and 16) came for dinner a few weeks back. I don’t usually write reviews for restaurants but this was such a dire experience that I had to make an account and drop this here to warn others who are thinking of taking out their loved ones. To summarise our experience: The service was appalling and the food was very mediocre for that price. Detailed account of our experience: We were rushed from the get go from the instance that we entered the door. We were promptly sat down at the bar table; seating arrangements were awkward and the stools were very uncomfortable. The waitress who served us (who seemed like she was also the manager) had a bad attitude and also seemed to be more focussed on what the other waiters were doing rather than serving us. When I asked for her recommendation on the food - she seemed like she was just trying to force us to order as much as possible. On top of this, the other servers appeared to be miserable and overworked (maybe adding some music could improve the atmosphere and they might cheer up). I most definitely wont be coming back - it is NOT worth your time or money.

I have to conclude this is probably the best Tapas I’ve had in London. As costs have risen you often feel somewhat ripped off when you shell out £20 for a plate of Tapas and what you get wouldn’t feed a mouse. These guys understand that the plate is there to be shared, but it needs to be big enough to be shared in the first place. everything we had was superb. It’s not cheap but neither should it be for the quality of the offer. Love it.
Be the first to ReplyThe best Spanish tapas in London by far
Outstanding service, excellent cuisine, very friendly & knowledgeable staff, wonderful sherries and wines. Wonderful presentation of the Tapas dishes, reasonably priced and a lovely ambiance. A foodies paradise. Absolutely recommended. 10/10. Top notch.

Had a good overall experience at this branch, service was outstanding - really attentive, caring & friendly. Food was tasty & served quickly. As is the way, most seating is at the counter, with just a handful of tables. Decent range of wines & sherries. Not cheap though, with some dishes smaller than anticipated given the pricing.

Booked this restaurant on recommendation for my daughter's 21st birthday, as she loves Spanish food and Tapas. Arrived sligthtly early (on a Monday night) and was shown to our table - in the private dining area where only 4 tables were placed. There was no music playing softly - and the room was slightly chilly. We were sat down and very quickly asked if we wanted water, had menus put in front of us. The whole experience seemed rushed - as if they wanted us in/out asap. The menus was limited, although what we had of the tapas was lovely, well cooked and tasty. It came in dribs and drabs - i.e. two ham croquettes only to start with, then fried squid, then something else - would have been nice to have it in front of us at the same time rather than cut a croquette in half for 4! Mains was tasty, but one of my daughters ordered lamb. It arrived 10 minutes ahead of the other 3 of us, so she sat there with her food getting cold, waiting for our Pork Belly buns to arrive. Whilst nice, there wasn't much meat in them, and not worth £14 in my view. Desserts were nice - so nice, the waitress felt she should charge us for another table's desserts too. I didn't even notice and paid my bill. Thankfully a more experienced waiter spotted the error, so I had £47 deducted from my bill, which I had to wait 2 working days to get back. Lastly, when I made the booking, there is a box which asks along the lines of: "anything else you'd like to add to help us make your experience more enjoyable". I added that it was my daughter's 21st birthday, so anything they could do....... but absolutely zero acknowledgement of this, so I would ask, what is the point of asking your customers the question? Whilst I didn't expect a tacky rendition of "happy birthday" with a fairy cake and a sparkler, maybe a cocktail could have been presented to her, especially after over-charging us. No apology from the waitress who made the mistake either. Just saying!! Won't be recommending this particular venue to anyone else - maybe your other locations are a better experience.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful lunch, highly recommended!!
My partner and I celebrated our civil partnership with our 3 witnesses here and had a delicious lunch. We were looked after very nicely. The perfect day. Can recommend every dish we had: chiperones, black rice with octopus, hake, pan con tomate, patatas bravissimas. And then the wine - we had delicious cava and Alberino. Highly recommended!!
Be the first to ReplyNot bad food but way too expensive
The food and service were ok but the prices are way too high for what it is and the counter seats are not the most comfortable either. We won't be going back. The wine prices were also way too high.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyed the food and counter experience
Was recommended by friends but suprised to see the TA rating of 3.5. Ignore it , its excellent. Sat at the counter for a catch up with my son. All dishes were well explained and essentially cooked in front of us. Our server was enthusiastic and attentive. Definitely recommend but you need to embrace the ' counter experience '

10/10 experience! We went for a leaving lunch for one of my colleagues and we loved it! It was booked by mistake as well because he was meant to book another place and got confused.. well, I think we found an excellent place! It’s a bit on the expensive side, but the quality of the food is excellent and the service is great! Strongly recommend for anyone who loves tapas

Barrafina was recommended by friends. Unfortunately we found the food was just average and not as good as expected. There is a very limited menu from which 5 dishes were unavailable. Unusual to have a Spanish restaurant with no tortillas at all out of the 3 that were shown on the menu. Although the menu is so limited there was also a list of ‘specials’. Our waitress was charming and extremely helpful. We ordered the chipirones and found it extremely petty that we were charged an extra £2 for the tiny dish of alioli, never had that before in a Spanish restaurant. The first 3 dishes arrived immediately (almost too soon), then there was a long wait for the other two courses by which time we were ready to go. Glad we tried it there was certainly nothing wrong with the food but we wouldn’t visit again.

Barrafina is a must for any Tapas lover. The food was gorgeous and me and my party were in heaven! The service was also excellent. This is my favourite type of restaurant in London, unpretentious and all about the quality of the food and the ingredients. I highly recommend Barrafina as it was excellent all round and not too expensive.
Be the first to ReplyOver the top with prices!
Yes, food and service was good, but portion size too small- 2" Cepionetas ( just one for a main course) for £ 15 is far too mean! Again, for a baby jem lettuce £ 14, is just exaggerated.

We were a party of 3 and wanted to order 6 dishes. The waiter insisted that it wasn't enough and asked us to order 3 more dishes. Against our better judgement, we went with his recommendation and ended up with too much food. However, we were rather relieved when 2 of the dishes were completely forgotten and did not arrive. Upon informing the waiter for them to be cancelled, instead of complying, he made us wait and served them upon us even though we were ready to leave. We felt that he was just pushing for a higher bill ahead of customers interest and wishes. Would not recommend going and it does not deserve its Michelin star or price at all. There are definitely much better tapas places in London.

Went to a few places whilst in London for the night. This was our least favourite. Sat at the bar under the waiting staffs noses but even with that the service was a bit haphazard and slow. The food was mixed. Some was very good. Some was overpriced and unmemorable.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent flavours
We had a great server called Michael who confidently guided us through the menu to ease us in to a world of new flavours. Really welcoming and friendly conversation. A brilliant tapas selection and a carafe of perfectly recommended white wine.

We've been here a couple of times in the last two weeks. The first time, a woman head chef was in charge of things. It was a happy ship with some of the staff teasing each other and having a laugh. I didn't mind, and the food was nice. The second time that we went, a bloke was directing things. The atmosphere was more sober, respectful and calm- better really. The food was lovely- some chipirones, jamon Iberico de Belota, crab croquettes and a mighty John Dory, done simply, with garlic and parsley, a la plancha. We shared a 500ml bottle of La Gitana manzanilla, and a bottle of Protos Rueda. The service was warm and charming, and we got out for sixty quid a head including 12% service. Coals Drop Yard is a very impressive development.

Absolutely perfect dining experience as if one were in a superfine tapas restaurant in Barcelona. Not cheap but flawless and elegant
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, limited menu and average service
I couldn’t believe how limited the menu was and very expensive for what you get. Service was mediocre at best and while there may be an ambiance if you fancy sitting at the bar upstairs, down in the “basement” it was non existent.
Be the first to ReplyGood tapas lunch, nice ambience
Lunch for 2 at the counter (parties of 2 are theoretically limited to 90 mins, though we were there for 2 hours without issue). Fairly busy lunchtime service. Very nice staff, occasional waits for service but quality of service was good.
Food: Ham croquetas, Tortilla with Txistorra, Pan con Tomate all very good. Pulpo a Feira good (though maybe I'm comparing unfairly with what I'm used to in Spain), as were Pimientos de Padron. The only disappointment was the pork belly bun, which was delicious but contained a very small amount of meat in a very large bun.
Drinks: Glass of reasonable Spanish Garnacha, and a nice (if young) glass of Humilitat Priorat to finish. Wine markups look pretty reasonable by London restaurant standards.
It's not the cheapest, but nice ambience and good quality, I would eat there again when in the area for lunch.
Poor service
I hate that the London restaurants seem to only give you a 90 minute slot but at Barrafina this was dealt with really badly. Once seated nobody came to take our order for food or drinks, we were just ignored until eventually I got someone’s attention, but then he didn’t rush to take our order asking us to wait. Once we got to order, most of the dishes came up in good time (and the food was excellent) but we waited a very long time for the lamb chops and I had to ask for them (I think they had forgotten them). We then wanted to order some Spanish cheeses and again it took ages to get someone to take our order so I was totally shocked when we were told we couldn’t have the cheese because we had to leave in 15 mins…….I complained and the manager came to see us who offered to move us round the bar to sit by the toilets and have our cheese. We didn’t fancy that and the manager did agree to take off the service charge from our bill. As I say, the food was very good and the wine good also. They need to get their service sorted out if they expect people to leave after 90 mins. I have to say, I wont go back as I don’t want to experience that again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and delicious food
We were served by a cheerful and efficient Ecuadorean waitress, and pretty much everything we had was top class. Chipirones, mussels croquettes, red prawns, fantastic patatas bravas..all excellent. The only disappointment was overpriced and tough lamb chops. Great vibe, and a real treat. The wine list is very interesting and we enjoyed some top quality reds and a delicious white. The only other downside is that it is very easy to spend a LOT of money, especially as so many of the wines are £50+
Be the first to ReplyRushed along
The food is ok, but very expensive. Service was poor - they made it obvious they wanted to rush you through and out the door. Not friendly at all.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Very disappointing, having eaten in 2 other branches of Barrafina I had high expectations. Ambiance was great, relaxed but professional staff however food was dull and flavourless.
Be the first to ReplySome tapas were amazing, but all of them overpriced
We order presa iberica, prawn and piquillo spanish omelette. iberic ham, and blue cheese croquettes, These dishes tasted really really nice... the problem was they were very small and overpriced.
Also we ordered chipirones...the tapa was tiny and wheat was not fine, also very oily.
The smell of dirty oil coming out from the kitchen was very obvious.
Service was really nice, no complaint about that.
Very bad service
The food was good, but not a great selection. The service was appaling. 1st The waitress came over no smiles bit of an attitude, spoke reallt fast. Ordered starter and Chips came with it, I precisely said would like chips with Main course, taken back, ordered bread with starter didn't come, eventually had to get someone elses attention to bring us bread and then 15 mins later the waitress came with the bread. Lastly ordered coffee and it was warm, got the attention of the Manager who questioned was it warm, bought another one. Throught out this, there was no apology from The manager (who knew about the waitress) in fact another waitress came over and said I know she has an attitude and have spoken to the Manager. Well the Manager never once apoligised in fact totally cold about everything. Very disappointing and won't be going back.
