Reliable and fresh
This well-situated and long-standing spot continues to be a great option for lunch or dinner in Gustavia. Located on the water, it serves sushi and other Asian dishes, including a variety of noodle options served in virtually any preparation. The friendly staff is accommodating and attentive. After many years, Baz Bar still feels fresh and lively.

Having walked the main street in Gustavia we were ready for a drink and wanted to sit by the waterfront. Baz Bar fitted the bill nicely. Friendly service, decent food and not eye-wateringly expensive like so many places on St Bart's.
Be the first to ReplyWharf Side Views
This low-key venue is on the other side of the harbour and perhaps why it was less busy. All the same, it has an awesome wharf side view of the harbour and the boats that adorn it. The bartender/server (I forgot her name) is from overseas – France, I think. She was very pleasant and cordial. I noticed the celebrity-signed posters and asked her if she had met any of them – She only giggled but didn’t answer – maybe there’s a code of secrecy?

Went to Baz bar w the wife and kids. Location is basically right next door to bagatelle. Take note there is no valet at Baz bar. Parking is difficult in gustavia. I asked bagatelle if I could pay their valet guy. They said they would normally do that but they didn’t have a valet person on this night. I went to a restaurant closer into town and used their valet service. So take note that that’s an option.
The food was ok. The sashimi pieces were big. The pad Thai was good. The rolls were ok. Everything seemed fresh.
The outdoor seating is on the water which is great. I think they have live music at times but there was no live music when we were there. Staff was nice.
Not good
Not a great experience: The waitstaff was sweet & helpful but that didn’t distract from the fact that our food took approx 1 hour to come out, that I ordered the only item on the menu marked “vegetarian” (the papaya salad) & it arrived with shrimp, & then, to boot, we ordered sides of rice & they took 20 additional minutes…. Amazingly, there was absolutely no attempts to make amends for the fact that shrimp came in the one “vegetarian” item on the menu (understanding some “vegetarians” eat fish - I do not & had discussed this with the waitress). Exasperated, we asked for the check & the papaya salad was on it! We spoke with another server who asked if we informed the waitress that I was “allergic to shrimp”. Again, we reiterated I am a vegetarian & had informed the waitress. All I have to say is thankfully I am not allergic to shrimp because I would have been in serious trouble & no one would have cared at this restaurant. I choose to not eat shrimp & did not want to start tonight. , We had no offer of “I’m sorry”, “have a drink” or “dessert on us” ….nothing. Go anywhere else, especially if you are a vegetarian, because this was the only restaurant in St barts that we went to all week that didn’t seem to accommodate or even care.

The location is great and service decent. But the food is underwhelming and missing any element of wow factor. Tried various sushi and other dishes several times and on different occasions. While the food was passable, it felt staid and tired. This is a pity since back in the day, the BB was definitely on top of their game

I am not the typical tripadvisor guy who leaves à review for every restaurant I visit but...
BazBar has been an institution in St Barth for decades and it used to be really cool.... cool food...cool band and plenty or locals and tourists.
For 20 years we visited this wonderful joint.... but tonight was definitively the last time just for one tiny little reason that has nothing to do with the food (which we didn’t try) or the waitress (who was pretty nice)... then what was it? Hmmmm???
We ordered our food, just to set the scene, two tables in the restaurant including ourselves as it was pretty early (19:30)... 30mn later still nothing on the table... so we did inquire?? After asking we were told the food would be there in 5mn.... and all of this due to the fact that 1) we process take away orders first and 2) we only have one chef...
So when you know the price of restaurants in st Barth, the quality of service that the customers are entitled to receive for such price and the quantity of amazing restaurants on the island .... we decided to leave immediately and cancelled the order.
Maybe we were unlucky this evening but knowing very much the hospitality industry.... I really don’t think so.
