This place has a prime position in a prime area of Islington, but the food does not come up to the standards expected. Considering the decor, surrounding and not Forgetting high prices it could do better. Three star food. 4 star service and 5 star decor.

I come here once a week and get a pot of Americano and the two boiled eggs with soldiers. It is generally very quiet and a lovely place to sit by the window and read (during breakfast and lunch.) The service is always very nice and accommodating, there is also PLENTY of space for all sizes of parties. The menu is simple but consistently good. We have tried the English breakfast, porridge with rhubarb compote, croissants, creme brûlée and of course the eggs with soldiers and Americano. Since I come during breakfast, I never make reservations, but I think if you come with a party of four or larger for dinner, it's always a good idea to call ahead of time. The ambience is pleasant and customers always seem to enjoy their time, I know I do! The attire looks business casual, but I do see some family's come in with their dogs and children dressed casually. It is in a great location with a park right in front and many cute boutiques and other shops nearby.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful restaurant with less than average food .
Just unimpressive and un original . The food is blend the menu is boring . The only thing Bellanger is good for is a drink!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was pretty good.
It's hard to judge properly, as I only had sausages and celeriac (which was nice) and drinks. The wine list had a nice range of options. They made a Kentucky coffee for me on request, which was lovely. The service started off really well, but then they ignored us. They could have sold more drinks.
Be the first to ReplyLoved this place! The restaurant was beautiful inside.
The hostess kindly seated us even though we were late for our reservation. Food, drinks & service we perfect. Best of all it was just a short walk to our hotel.

The locations is perfect if you're looking for something in central London and there's a park right outside the place. I went on a Saturday afternoon with my friend and two pooches because their dog friendly! The ambience is lovely wooden old furnishing with a French twist but the food is not the best. We opted for the value deal which is £18 for 2 course meal and I had a salad starter with a roast chicken for main. The salad tasted like something from those square shaped economy class plane food and the chicken was very dry (I ended up giving most of it to the pooches!) and the cheesecake dessert we shared was way too rich for my liking. Nevertheless the staff were friendly although a bit understaffed and slow but they let us stay for over 3 hours! The pooches were comfortable in their environment and the guests didn't mind a few barks here and there. But if you're coming for food I'd say there's a lot more out in Angel!

Bellanger is a beautifully fronted restaurant on Islington Green. Upon entering, you are greeted by high ceilings with beautiful light fixtures, cute booths in various shapes and dark wooden panels. The menu here is French-German and is fairly simple. To start, we tried the Alsacienne tart flambé which is the thinnest bread base you can imagine with teeny smokey bacon lardons, onions and cheese. This was cooked to perfection, crispy but creamy top with gorgeous meatiness from the bacon. Perfect and just how I remember it in France. We had the mushroom and herb one which was also lovely. The steak tartare was perfect. Chopped steak, perfect seasoning. I just didn't like the accompanying toast but had it with the complimentary bread and butter instead (French of course).Onto mains. I had the pork t-bone, I'd have liked it cooked for alittle less, some said it wasn't cooked enough. Nevertheless, it was juicy and flavoursome. Calves liver was perfect, as was the veal schnitzel. Choucroute was a pot for 2 to share, full of sauerkraut, smokey hams, sausages of many varieties and potatoes. This was of particularly generous portioning, but all dishes were larger than expected.Sides were fries-great mash-beautiful and spinach-normal.We had 2 desserts as we were so full but couldn't miss Black Forest gateux-perfect and salted caramel macaroons which to me, should have been called chocolate caramel but the flavours and textures were great. I was told they were home-made.The Beaujolais was excellent and even the cranberry juice seemed home-made, or maybe just from a superb bottle. There was pulp in the bottom of the glass! Just 3 complaints, the table was abit of a squeeze but not enough to complain, the bread was a teeny bit dry but still from that day I know and the choucroute could have been afew degrees hotter.Overall, a great place, food execution was near perfect. Service is impeccable, the vibe was great and I look forward to my return.

Nice environment and decor, but I was sat with my back to a waiters station and had to listen to their idle chit chat which was both distracting and tedious at the same time, so they lose a star. The schnitzel was good, my partners Toulouse sausage was enjoyed also.I'll come again, but will be picky about where my party are sat.

FINALLY a place for me to satisfy my Flamenkuche cravings! The rest of the menu looks good as well and service is second to none, as you would expect from any Cobin& King venture. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu.
