Wowā¦ lives up to everything I have readā¦ great experience- fabulous food, impeccable service . The escargot were delicious, mussels and gnocchi heavenly and grilled cheese unbelievable. Breton cake was delicious too! Wouldnāt hesitate to go back when in the area.

Bell's has been on our list for a long time and happy to say when we finally made it in it did not disappoint. ALLEN (spelling) took exceptional care of us with a perfect mixture of professionalism, menu-knowledge and humor. Every bite of every course was exquisite. We'll be back for future celebration dinners. Highly recommended!

Bells has been on our radar and finally snagged a reservation. Delighted with the casual ambiance, wonderful food and wine. A lovely experience overall, but don't feel the need to repeat it.

I was visiting friends in Santa Barbara and looking forward to this dinner. My friend secured the reservation as soon as it became available. It was worth the effort. We sat outside on a beautiful evening and had a delicious dinner. I had never tried uni before and was apprehensive, but I paired it with the caviar and found it delicious. The salad was excellent - fantastic date vinaigrette and then had the tomato tart. Excellent. I didnt want it to end!! Had the steak frites main - yum, and the chocolate dessert. All excellent. Did not drink but the wine list was comprehensive with many options at various price points. I really liked this place, found the service great, and the location charming. Would recommend if in the area..
Be the first to ReplyFine Dinning in Los Alamos in a casual setting.
I was told about this place from my family who know the chef. We stopped here on the way to Palm Springs. It is a small, cute and cozy restaurant with a polished fine dinning menu. Very casual with attentive service. All the plates were delicous. This is a splurge dinner and worth the experience. I would like to try lunch when I am back in the area.

We had a very enjoyable dinner here. Our server Lindsey did a fantastic job of taking care of us. She provided good information about each of the dishes. The food was outstanding. It was a fixed price dinner and was a good value. We had an excellent experience here. Thumbs up!
Be the first to ReplyVery poor dining experience
Unfortunately our meal at Bells, Los Alamos was a disappointment, although our waiter did a good job. Perhaps it is because we had such high expectations that we both came away extremely underwhelmed. The dishes didnāt meet expectations in creativity, nor flavour intensity and complementary ingredients. We found the dishes to be bland and, in the case of the desserts, very uninspiring. I wish I had more positive feedback, we were really looking forward to our visit.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, great food, wonderful night
We went to Bell's for a birthday dinner. Start to finish we had a great night. The service was excellent, very informative and helpful, and they gave us plenty of time to enjoy each course. The food was amazing. Thank you for the memorable, enjoyable experience!

Expected so much more from a Michelin. Visited with husband, daughter and granddaughter. Place is family friendly. Chicken liver pĆ¢tĆ© was good. We had a mix up with order, so received moules instead of poulet. Problem was dealt with professionally and was told to eat the moules, for which we would not be charged. Unfortunately this meant that husband and daughter were well into their steaks before my meal was rectified. Moules were large but saffron sauce while good on saffron, tasted as if the water used in the jus was slightly off, and fries were over- salted. Steaks ( they were not asked how they liked them) were reported as too overdone on outside. Chicken came and āroast potatoā with it was slithers of very cold potato. My husband makes better āroast potatoesā. Chicken itself was overdone and acidic ( too many capers perhaps). I had lost appetite by then and the experience had spoiled what should have been a happy family occasion. They did not charge for chicken in the end because I had left 3/4 of it. Great on dealing with issues but the issues should not have arisen in a Michelin.

We ate lunch at Bell's as we were heading up to Paso Robles for a few days. We stopped again on our homeward trip for a second opportunity to have another meal there. The food was delish, the staff was superior, the setting is rustic and comfortable. Even the weather was perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant. We ate inside for our first lunch and on the back patio (which has large sail-type protection from the sun (very airy) for our second lunch. Wow!!!
Be the first to ReplyBig Disappointment
Unfortunately our lunch did not meet our expectations. The food was very ordinary and overpriced in my opinion. Service was good, but a 20% Mandatory service charge is added to the bill that is already too high for what you are getting.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food, knowledgeable servers and great wines
We had my birthday lunch there. We sat outside on a tree-shaded patio and enjoyed their famous egg salad sandwich (which sounds plebeian but in fact is amazing - try it!) and a wonderful salad bowl with perfectly medium-rare steak. There are unusual (local) wines by the glass - always a hallmark of a good restaurant that cares about not only its patrons but also supports local vineyards. I had a glass of Metrick, which is a single grape mourvĆØdre, and we purchased a bottle of it to take home. Desserts offered were their Gateau Breton and a bitter chocolate sandwich cookie. Service was perfect, and our server was knowledgeable about the local wines and history of the vineyards. It was a memorable occasion and I hope to return before too long!

The absolute best Steak Tartar I have ever had! The weather was great and it was beautiful and relaxing to sit outside.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Experience
Went for lunch and was completely blown away at the whole experience. Lunch is more of a bistro menu with some recognizable items kicked up a notch (or two) and some very unique offerings. We started with tinned Sardines and home made Saltinesā¦oh my what a surprise with exquisite sardines from Spain that we couldnāt stop eating. For our main dishes I got the mussels in wine/butter and seasoned fries that were up there with the best I have eaten. My husband got their iconic egg salad sandwich that had large pieces of eggs (not your typical egg salad) and he loved it. Service was incredible, our server Chris was a gem and recommended the perfect wine to compliment my mussels. 1 app+2 entrees+1 glass wine+ cappucino+tip for approx $100ā¦what a great value for a Michelin star restaurant and an experience we will never forget! Tip: We sat at the bar and watched all the food being prepared and we got to talk to Greg, the co-owner, and learned a lot about how he started this restaurant
Be the first to ReplyWhat a find!
Last night we ate at Bells Restaurant in Los Alamos. Reservations are a must and while we missed the window, a last minute email got a group of 4 a 5PM reservation.
We readily accepted and no disappointment followed.
Our 5 course dinner at $75 was superb. On the night we dined there, we feasted on sea urchin, locally caught, beautiful green and red salad greens, egg and mushroom en croute, lovely prepared salmon center cut, pink and topped with roe. This followed a sponge cake w chantilly cream or gateau de Breton. We paired with Dragonette Chardonnay and Storm Pinot noir.
All in all an amazing dining experience and worthy of Michelin recognition. The staff was wonderful and our waiter took pains to explain every item offered thereby facilitating easy choices to make from the menu.
The owner, Greg came over to introduce himself and like his restaurant was charming and welcoming.
A great place to enjoy a delicious meal
What a gem! What a wonderful meal. Service was excellent. So many good choices on their price fixe menu.
A wonderful inventive meal. There were many choices within the prix fixe menu. They even printed a special menu to honor my birthday. We enjoyed it so much we went back for brunch the following day.
Be the first to ReplyNot up to Michelin rating
Good news. Reservation honored on time. Drinks order taken promptly and fulfilled (half price wine over $60 on Mondays), waitress very confident of wine descriptions, fixed prices menu explained and decision points explained, and courses served quickly, excellent flavors. Areas to improve. Service felt rushed, plates and implements removed almost as soon as anyone completed a plate leaving table mates scrambling to finish the course. Food excellently presented in a tasting mode. However scallop courses had cold scallops on an intended hot item. Mains were uniformly warm not hot. Beef coquette stunning sauce, very peppery as advertised but chewy and hard to cut. Riscotti got rave reviews with floral carved cheese topping. Desserts uniformly disappointingā gutere cake dry, shortcake with cream filling also dry with over salted filling. Are we being picky? Damn right. For a restaurant we waited almost two months to enjoy, we expected better. No shortage of takers as we were rushed out the door after two hours. Plates picked up, everything cleared and next seating waiting. Perhaps a note on the reservation of their expectation and we would not have ordered a second bottle of wine to enjoy our friends.
Be the first to ReplyWorthy of the Michelin Star !
Iāve heard that the French like to say, "Nobody grows old during a happy occasion at the dining table."
Let me start by saying that I believe that dinner is not what you do in the evening before something else. Dinner is the evening. I also believe mastership of great culinary skills enriches the wholeness of a fine dining experience.
That said, thereās a difference between dining and eating. Dining is an art. When you eat to get the most out of your meal, to please the palate, that my friend is dining.
Cooking like a Michelin star chef requires high intuition, a lot of imagination, and a willingness to be curious and innovative. Hence the star, Daisy Ryan, deservedly received. Bellās to me is one of the art studios creating new dishes.
But then again, creativity is not just a job position, but it's an attitude. From the front of the house to the back, everything should be able to move you, inspire you, touch your emotions. After all, once you love what you do, you will eventually become a master of it and the only way to be a master of something is to be real with it.
If you have a chance to dine with Daisy and Greg Ryan at Bellās in Los Alamos, you will feel the love that is real.
Amazing experience
This was our favorite restaurant on our trip, by far. It was my husband's birthday and we had delicious food and fantastic service. Our food favorites included cold pepper soup, crudo, hen egg with vegetables, steak/frites and a corn buttermilk glace. The ingredients were so fresh that even a plain salad with simple dressing was to die for.
We were also really impressed with the level of service/care that we received, given how busy they were. Our waiter, Chris, was really attentive and he was covering multiple tables including a large party. I made a point of telling him that and he said that it was really a "team effort" as they all help to cover the tables. It was also nice how many people wished my husband a happy birthday over the evening!
Though we were seated outdoors, we were under the overhang and had a heater, so I was pleasantly warm in a light sweater in 55 degrees.
We will definitely come back here on our next trip!
Can't wait to return!
Excellent food, service, attention and execution. We found no flaws in any aspect, and sorry other reviewers did not have the experience we did. Monday tasting menu at $50 is too good to be true and couple with 50% off any $60 bottle, unbelievably priced all round. Absolutely support the 20% gratuity which we would have surely included anyway.
The high standard of this meal and the special attention we received as our anniversary was nothing short of remarkable. We have already decided that Bell's will determine our next trip to SYV. We hope to be back regularly!
Multiple flaws in all dishes. Wouldnāt recommend unfortunately. See detailed review below.
For the price it charges and mandatory 20% tip requirement (that was not disclosed clearly on the website), i wouldnāt recommend this restaurant. All dishes have major flaws or appear uninspiring - rather disappointing for a restaurant that presents itself with such high quality standard.
- After arrival we were seated at the back of the open patio meaning thereās constant unbearable cold wind breezing through the whole time. No blanket was provided.
- Thereās a smoking machine operating nearby generating very strong porky smell that will likely make all our meals smell like pork if we continue to sit there. We asked for a change of table. The restaurant owner came talk to us and moved us to a smallest table there is in the restaurant right in the middle of heavy traffic with all dishes passing through our table. Itās quite distracting to put the table in the middle of heavy traffic making it more challenging to taste the meal.
- First course āSanta Barbara Sea Urchinā. The taste is bland. Not recommend this dish at all. Wouldnāt spend much time thinking about it.
- Salade of Findley Farms Lettuces. (The part English part French name is interesting although not in a positive way; not sure why they came up with that.) The presentation is uninspiring - a disappointment for this quality and price. The flavor is on point as itās relatively straightforward to execute. itās surprising that no bread was provided throughout the menu. That seems necessary to accompany such a sour and crisp salad with more savory bread. Thus making this course just ok as opposed to outstanding.
- Scallop Crudo en Persillade appetizer: my dining mate requested for a more well done as opposed to a medium rare. The request was declined as somehow thatās not possible to accommodate in the kitchen. This is rather surprising since the request is simply asking the chef to heat the scallop a little longer. She switched her meal to a bland omelette - another uninspiring and technically flawed execution wise. My scallop is cooked well. However the bread crumb is very hard almost like eating pebbles. It is a huge distraction to the dish. this is not technically difficult to do pointing to another flaw. Because of this Iād not recommend the dish since you canāt change how they prepare the dish as itās part of the fixed menu unfortunately.
- Steak Au Poivre: let me start by saying that the fries were cooked well. But thatās the easiest part of the dish to make and unfortunately the only good thing to be said about this dish. The steak is very spicy. Interesting itās intentional as they would like to make the steak āstand outā according to our server. I absolutely agree the steak does stand out but in a negative way since itās way too spicy to most peopleās palate Iād imagine. Unfortunately Iād therefore cannot recommend this dish unless you enjoy burning your palate.
- finally the dark chocolate tart felt unfresh as if it was made days in advance or bought from a supermarket.
- In conclusion the only positive thing about our meal is our waiter. Heās attentive and service oriented (unlike the owner). Bellās is lucky to have him work here (still) despite the multiple flaws in all courses we tasted. For this reason I gave it 1 star as opposed to none thanks to him.
Good French Food (NOT exceptional!) & Horrible service & forced to pay 20% for it.
Bells Restaurant is open for in restaurant dinning.
The food is good French food, but certainly nothing close to exceptional French, as compared to anywhere in France.
Worthy of occasional dinning there, if it werenāt for the servers, that donāt have any motivation to do a good job of service.
As they automatically add 20% to your bill.
And deliver a very sub, sub par service. accompanied with a dose of arrogance to go.
Itās not a cheap lunch or dinner.. And forced adding of 20% tip for someone that doesnāt really care about you or the food, leaves me feeling taken advantage of.
This is a classic example:
Of why not to support restaurant owners that donāt pay their staff a fair wage from the price of the food items, to keep additional food profits for themselves and force their customers to pay inflated additional fees for the delivery of the food. (and from servers that do not have a motivation to do a good job.)
Remember the food pricing is already on the higher side of dinningā¦ Which should include service, by excellent motivated servers. Which is NOT happening here.
Stay away!
Wow! Fabulous meal tonight.
Wow! Fabulous meal tonight. Had the urchin/salad/white asparagus/steak and pommes frites/dessert. Great wine selection and on Mondays 1/2 price on wines $60+ ā such a deal! Service excellent and quality of the food first rate. Worth staying an extra day to dine here. High recommended.
Be the first to ReplyA little French Cafe, OOO LaLa!
A taste of France with some classic dishes. The sea urchin appetizer was best with the addition of caviar. The simple salad good. The squash dish with puffed pastry was outstanding. The scallop risotto very good. The steak with black pepper and cream sauce very tasty. I had cheese for desert which they gave me only one piece which was enough after the rest of the meal. My friend had the cake which is more like a heavy tart, also good. Definitely planning to return. They change the menu often, so you might call to find out what they are serving. Good wine list with both French and American Selections.
