Will never return to Bonito again.
I am utterly dismayed by my recent experience at this establishment. Despite changing my reservation to another night, I was shocked to discover a staggering $860 charge for a supposed no-show on the original booking. This is more than double the cost of my actual meal! The meal was mediocre to say the least and definitely not worth the awful treatment. Not only was the management dismissive and unresponsive to my attempts to rectify the situation via email, but their lack of accountability and customer care is simply unacceptable. As a result of this appalling treatment, neither my family nor any of my friends will be returning to this restaurant.

Had such a wonderful time at Bonito with my husband one night for dinner that I booked another reservation with the rest of my family for the following week! The hostesses at the front kindly greeted us and sat us at a table with a beautiful view of Gustavia. The food is absolutely delicious and unique, and the service and ambiance make the whole experience one of the best on the island.
Be the first to ReplyBonito, St. Barts: A Storm of Disappointment and Insensitivity - Zero Stars
Despite the picturesque setting of St. Barts, my recent dining experience at Bonito fell short of expectations, with zero stars. The restaurant's reservation policy, which includes a hefty charge of 150 Euro per person for last-minute changes, lacked flexibility and understanding, particularly in the face of treacherous weather and road conditions. The unyielding stance on this matter was disappointing, casting a shadow over our visit. Because Bonito refused to accommodate our reservation to another day, even though they had availability, we drove in the downpour, in the dark and steep hills of St. Barts to make our reservation. To add to the challenges, upon arriving at the front entrance, the lobby of the restaurant was flooded with a foot of water due to the downpour, leaving us completely drenched before we even stepped inside. This further compounded the already difficult situation. Furthermore, it was noted that many other restaurants, such as Le Guerite, closed their doors for those couple of days due to the weather and demonstrated understanding by contacting their customers and expressing concern for their safety. Many individuals had to cancel their plans due to the dangerous rainstorm (36 hours of heavy rain continuously), highlighting the severe impact of the conditions. Driving on the steep hills and tiny roads of St. Barts in the dark while it's pouring rain is unbelievably dangerous. Upon seating at Bonito, the menu revealed exorbitant prices, with even the most basic items carrying a significant cost. The least expensive option, french fries for 18 euros, left much to be desired in terms of value for money. When expressing our concerns to the manager, we were met with a dismissive attitude, lacking empathy and understanding of the challenges we encountered. The manager said, "You could have taken a taxi." Again, they were dismissive and insensitive to anyone's well-being, including taxi drivers. Overall, the lack of responsiveness to customer needs, the exorbitant pricing for basic fare, and the contrasting approach with other establishments left a sour taste. While the breathtaking views of St. Barts provide a stunning backdrop, the insensitivity to extenuating circumstances and the unreasonably high prices marred what could have been a memorable dining experience. In the end, we had our 18 Euro fries at Bonito and went across the street to L'Isola and were treated properly with wonderful service and fantastic food. They even gave us a free glass of champagne because they heard how horribly we were treated at Bonito. There are numerous beautiful and terrific restaurants in St. Barts, and nobody needs to risk their lives to eat in a place where they are treated poorly with a $$$$$ tab.

Beautiful restaurant. This ambiance is just what you want in St Barth. Both dishes my husband and I had and the wine were all amazing. Service made it all the more special. Lesa was our server and did a phenomenal job. Perfection!
Be the first to ReplyNOT THE SAME BONITO
This is our 30th year coming to St Barths. We were here when Bonito first opened. It was a bright and fresh menu on an island with so few at that time. Now, the food quality has crashed, while prices have flown. That may explain why the restaurant is now half empty and there is no reason to reserve in advance - even in High Season. We won’t return until there is a good reason to do so. The average price of dinner is €150/person before wine (€110 and higher) for vin ordinaire).

Rarely does restaurant offer the kind of food experience foodies live for. Bonito is one of those. We welcomed the friendly greeting after an exasperating experience getting there. Bonito is in a difficult location an our cab left us at the bottom of a steep incline without proper direction. Ask the restaurant to get you a cab. The setting is open looking over the harbor with a pleasant fine dining setting. I had the best Peruvian escvichie I have ever tasted. The salmon Sashimi was described as “out of this world by my wife“. For main course I had a red snapper with an incredible cream sauce. My wife had an outstanding sucking pig. We shared a delicious flan for dessert.
Be the first to ReplyGreat evening
Absolutely wonderful setting, service and food. Ceviche was amazing. Catch of the day and rack of lamb Devine. But the star of the show was the soufflé. One of the best that we have had.
Be the first to ReplyNice place but like everywhere in SBH overrated
My friend and I liked the food, quality was ok but the prices are insane here…for drinks and food but it’s ok better than some places I’ve been in SBH. Very minimal and when we arrived they asked us if we had any allergies and if we like fish so we said no to allergies and yes to fish but at this point we had ordered our mains already…so while we waited they brought us little appetizers..which were nice but then they tried charging us for it when we never ordered it..I find not only here is like this but alot of places in SBH are sneaky like this…wouldn’t go back in a hurry food is nice place is nice…that’s it
Be the first to ReplyPoor service!
My husband and I visited Bonito on the last evening of our trip to St. Barts. The dinner was very nice and the service attentive however, when we asked to move to the bar our server told us we could do that if seats opened up. When we tried to take two of the seats, the hostess rushed to tell us she was saving them for other guests which would have been fine if she wasn’t rude about it and offered an alternative for us as we clearly wanted to stay longer. We felt rushed out and unimportant at that point so we left. It’s unfortunate that what was otherwise an enjoyable experience was ruined at the end.

Everything was amazing! The food, atmosphere and service surprised us! We certainly will be back!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyFood is even better than the scene
No trip to SBH would be complete without at least one dinner at Bonito. Everything about this restaurant is top notch - except that on more than one occasion, the hostess walked us to a table away from the banquettes providing the best view. However, with a gentle word that it would be our preference to sit in the more desirable seats, our request has always been honored. The ceviches are amazing and the cooked food is as well. The desserts are particularly memorable and I'd recommend any one (or more) of them.
Be the first to Replyone of the best restaurant on the island
if you are looking for one of teh best dinner with a view on the island of st Barts than look no further , Bonito is a must visit , were in St Barts for 1 week and we went twice for dinner
Be the first to ReplyBeware Reservation Cancelation Policy
Beware of the reservation cancelation policy. It is unfair and one of the most profound examples of poor customer service we have ever experienced. As a result of a miscommunication with our concierge, restaurant reservations at two different restaurants were switched, and while the second restaurant was completely reasonable and accommodating, Bonito refused to even allow us a €750 credit of the cancelation fee towards another meal, notwithstanding our offer to more than double that amount for a final bill. One should avoid this restaurant at all costs.
Be the first to ReplyGustavia Moments
Bonito is always great fun. The ambiance is quintessentially St B, overlooking the harbor in Gustavia. The ceviches, fish dishes and soufflé are favorites.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food. Horrible Management.
We have enjoyed Benito in the past. The food is excellent. This is a poor rating for amazingly poor management. I will try and keep it brief. We have an extensive history of dining at Five Star establishments and know what is both excellent cuisine and excellent service. My wife ordered an appetizer and an entrée. She is in that small part of the world (~ 15% of the population ) who can’t stand cilantro / coriander. For these people it has a taste like soap. Imagine dining at any restaurant and having your food taste like soap, much less a Five Star establishment. After clearly explaining this small request to our waiter, her appetizer showed up with cilantro on top. The waiter disputed that it wasn’t cilantro, and some sort of other garnish. I tried a mouthful of it and it was indeed cilantro. He apologized, they didn’t remake the appetizer, but dumped the cilantro off of it. Later came her main course, covered, yet again in cilantro. We didn’t make any scene of it, but asked to speak to the manager, stating that the service after clear requests was very unprofessional. The manger came over, just briefly apologized, and again had the cilantro scraped off of it. We ordered coffee and dessert afterwards. Our bill came and there was a credit for the €16 coffee, not the €30 dessert. We’re never looking to extort any ridiculous compensation for a mistake, but this was might I say very “cheap” for failing twice to a guest’s requests for a 5 star dining experience. I brought this to his attention, and said “ Really? You’re going to give us some free drip coffee after what we experienced?” He stubbornly said that an apology was enough, and that we should be happy with getting our coffee for free. I was stunned that a manger of a 5 star reputable restaurant would act like this towards guests, even after we brought it to his attention, yet again. I can’t make this up. That is why I felt to write up this unfortunate review. Last time we spent €1000 on dinner, we’ll go elsewhere for a while. He displayed a level of apathy and arrogance I’ve never seen in decades from a restaurant manager. Excellent food. Horrible management.

Be the first to ReplyWonderful meal and exquisite service
We had a wonderful meal at Bonito tonight. The venue is beautiful! Amaury and team took great care of us. The service was exquisite. Our meals served at a perfect pace. The food and specialty drinks are all fantastic. I had the shrimp ceviche and red snapper, and they were both spectacular. The music was excellent. The DJ set the mood for a wonderful evening. I highly recommend Bonitos for a terrific meal. Treat yourself to the good life. Enjoy!!!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Service and Views
DH and I came to Bonito for pre-dinner cocktails a couple of months ago and loved our experience. We already had a few dinner reservations for other restaurants during our trip. Since Bonito didn't make our list, we decided to go there just for drinks. In hindsight, I wish we had stayed for dinner. We got to Bonito just as they opened at 6:30 and grabbed seats at the bar, overlooking gorgeous Gustavia. The views of the harbor are amazing and the restaurant is beautiful. I ordered the "Sex in the Tub." Yes, it's very touristy, but was pretty tasty. My hubby had a dirty martini. Aside from the beautiful ambiance, the staff also added to our great experience. Everyone - from the bartender to the servers walking by us - was extremely friendly. Many of them took the time to chat with us a little even if though they weren't directly our servers. I would definitely come back to Bonito and, next time, for dinner.

Be the first to ReplyBonito: Fine Dining Perfection
We had an amazing dining experience here with our daughter’s family, including her three children…the youngest being five. We were warmly greeted immediately by the lovely hostesses clad in gorgeous matching white summer dresses. While first impressions are lasting, things only got better as we were seated. We enjoyed a beautiful table with the incredible view for which they are known. Drinks and cocktails were followed by an unforgettable meal. We began with the trio and various other individual ceviches along with their seared tuna tiradito appetizer to start. We selected the grouper, the covina special, the tuna, and the mahi as entrees. The service was outstanding and our waiters were just a joy. Amazingly, they had a children’s menu with a nice variety of choices. They delivered coloring crayons with a sharpener to color on the menu. All the children loved their food and remained well entertained throughout a very long meal. To say they were child friendly is an understatement. Of course, well behaved children probably helped. The dessert we selected to share was a chocolate confection and ice creams. They were perfect choices to end the meal. As we enjoyed cappuccino waiting for the bill, the two ladies were gifted with a lovely bottle of olive oil and the youngest received a stuffed bear. All unexpected surprises …like the “ cherry on top”. This restaurant should definitely be put on your bucket list. Fine dining doesn’t get any better than this.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible view and good - Must visit
After a recommendation from our hotel we decided to check out this restaurant and I can say its a spot you cannot miss. The views alone are worth a visit. The restaurant itself it very beautiful with great coastal chic decor. We were there on our honeymoon and wanted to splurge and try everything. For starters we had the TASTING OF CEVICHES AND TIRADITOS, and 3 piece taco trio. For our mains we had Wagyu flank steak, and suckling pig confit. The flank steak was the best steak I've ever had and that is coming from a true steak eater. Our server was a bit absent paying more attention to larger groups, when he was at our table he was helpful but we felt very ignored. He redeemed himself in the end by brining us a special treat for our appetizer but would have been great to have the same attentiveness that other tables had being that we likely spent the same if not more than them based on how much we ordered and drank. I will be going back to Bonito every time we go to St Barths.
Be the first to ReplyWe Will Not Return
On our 16th annual visit to St. Barts we made our normal 7 pm dinner reservation at Bonito. We were not told that a festival was taking place in Gustavia on the night of our reservation and no traffic would be allowed to enter before 9 pm (including taxis). Upon learning of the festival and our inability to physically get to the restaurant our hotel concierge called Bonito to cancel the reservation. The Bonito receptionist said “too bad” and promptly charged our credit card 300 euros. No discussion. End of story. Their arrogant attitude is pervasive throughout the restaurant and with multiple other high quality dining options in town, we will not return to Bonito.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing dining experience with disappointing food.
We arrived at Bonito. Were rushed in to a back table by the staff computer entry area. Not overlooking the water as we had requested in our reservation to celebrate my birthday. We also notice that many other attractive well dressed couples were placed in this dark back area without a view also. Very disappointing. The waiter told us that we needed to order our drinks and all of our food right away “Because we had 1 1/2 hours until the next seating” We said we needed a few minutes to look at the menu and then he said “now you have 1 hour and 15 minutes”. We were in shock. We have traveled extensively, stayed and dined in 5 star luxury hotels and restaurants the past 10 years. Never have we experienced anything like this. And besides the horrid service, The food was bland. The fish I ordered was swimming in a soggy sauce. The appetizer ceviche bland. Nothing impressive at all. What a sad waste of our time on this beautiful island with so many wonderful restaurants and owners who care about the food and service that they provide. Will never return.
Be the first to ReplyIt was great
It was great- loved Sex In the bath drink, so original. First I thought it’s a touristy drink for $20 but turned out delicious and original looking. Service was great as everywhere on this island ( almost).
Be the first to ReplySo overpriced
Excellent service, great food for maybe 50% more than it’s worth. Stingy drinks, which, for me, is the kiss of death. I don’t think I saw a glass of wine for less than 90 euro, so I ordered 12 euro rums, which never came until I inquired 15 minutes later. Hard pass.
