Borkonyha Winekitchen Budapest Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing restaurant and friendly staff.
We had a great experience at this restaurant. It was our first time trying a Michelin stared restaurant and we were very impressed. The staff were very friendly and informative and guided us through the menu and wines. The food was delicious and very well served. The restaurant was cozy and had a great vibe located in inner city. We will definitely recommend this restaurant.
Definitely worth a visit!
The food was absolutely fantastic. But it was special to be led through the evening by the thoroughly competent waiters, who constantly carried you through the experience of eating here, in a very pleasant way.
Excellent Service and Food đđœ
We were delighted to have reserved a table today for the celebrations of 10 years running Michelin star. The service was wonderful - the waiters could not have been more helpful & they explained the wine and food in impeccable detail. We got the tasting menu. It was fantastic from start to finish & there was nothing to fault. We have been to many Michelin star restaurants around the world and this one is in the top 5. Well done chefs, waiters & all staff! We will return!!
In short: not a very pleasent experience
We arrived for lunch - prebooked a month in advance. 5 tables, including ours, were to be served by the 3 waitors that were working at the moment. The atmosphere and decor were quite boring. You would believe a 1-star Michelin restaurant would have done something more about it. The our left sat a family of 4, where the young man kept blowing his nose LOUDLY every 5 minutes until they left. It was disgusting to say the least and I don't have a clue to why they weren't being told to respect the other guests of the restaurant... We ordered our food and beverage, and after a short while had our starters served. Not to be cruel but we both had a hard time understanding our waiter. He spoke in english, but the accent compared with the fast pace of speak, made it difficult to know what was said. The starters (stracciatella) where amazingly beautiful to look at but bland when biting into it. Didn't taste of much but luckily they had provided us with a salt shaker, which definately came in handy. During the main, it came in handy once again. However, this was not my greatest of concerns: For my main I had their steak paired with Flor di Pingus. When trying to begin eating, I noticed that I hadn't been provided with any cutlery. I mean, come on, 3 waiters for 5 tables and I am being presented a steak-dish, but no one is aware of the fact that I am missing cutlery? I excused myself to one of the waiters and asked if I could have a fork and knife for my dish, to which he replied in a tone of voice that indicated irritation "yes, I will get that for you in i minute". No "Of course, I'm sorry about that", no "I'll get that sorted right away", no nothing. From that response to my, in my opinion, very fair request, I felt like I was not welcome. The steak too was sadly very undersalted as stated above. It needed way more salt than the starter. Neither it wasn't as "pretty" as the starter, so nothing extraordinary compared to any other restaurant I would say. I asked for my steak to be medium/rare, and though I could live with the fact of it being more medium than medium/rare, I have a hard time with the tendons that the meat had in it, making it a bit unpleasent to eat. I left some on my plate simply because it was not chewable. Because of the combined experience of this visit to Borkonyha Winekitchen we decided against our original plan of having a three course meal, to drop the dessert and get on our way. In conclusion: we have visited 6 Michelin restaurants (both "recommended", 1-star and 2-star restaurants) throughout the course of a 3 day stay, and this experience was by far the worst one of our stay. For the sake of the restaurant and it's current star, I really hope they'll step up their game in the very near future.
I wouldn't come back here
I'm more disappointed with this place than the other way around. Firstly, the hall is very noisy. Very long tables and guests sitting opposite each other and having to shout to carry on a conversation. This causes a terrible noise in the hall, everyone is trying to shout over each other. About the food - the presentation is beautiful, but the quality of the food leaves much to be desired. My friend had mushroom soup, it was terribly oversalted, really impossible to eat. My salad had too much vinegar and I didnât taste anything other than the taste of vinegar, which really ruined the dish. The rest seemed to be normal, but not exactly delightful. In my opinion, this restaurant has a lot to improve. There is no desire to return.
Gastro Maximus!
Impeccable and professional hospitality in all respects. I regularly visit BorkonyhĂĄ with my wife, and I felt it was timely to express our satisfaction - also in writing - while at the same time voicing our affirmative recognition. A special merit: constancy, because few manage to maintain the exceptionally high level, Borkonyha is one of those places where returning guests are never disappointed. The friendly atmosphere and polite service are fundamental in Borkonyha, but at the same time, they are a rare treasure in Hungarian hospitality. The richness of flavor and quality of the food are always at their maximum. Real flavors, no fake food or unnecessary hocus pocus, high-end gastronomy full of flavor! It's almost an experience, as well-known ingredients and dishes from Hungarian cuisine are renewed and transformed, but never so much as to lose their original character. The end result is always a harmonious taste orgy. It makes no sense to single out any food, you have to eat them all, it's worth it! Literally and in a good sense: there is no catch in this place, it is impossible to reach out.
Beautiful dishes, tasty food
We chose the 6-course tasting menu and it was an experience in a special class. The food was beautifully presented and extremely tasty. Some chose the associated wine menu and others the juice menu. Both were really delicious.
Borkonyha - fine dining and wines at top level
Borkonyha well deserved the Michelin star. An elegant but friendly restaurant with not too many disheas but they are delicios. Fine dining at its best. An enormous selection of wines mostly Hungarians. This place puts Hungarian wine culture to top level. Great service. Learn from the sommelier. Borkonyha in Sas street is a must.
Nice to visit
Very good for a lunch with visiting guests to show the great European food in the city of Budapest. Somewhat expensive for the food
Yes and no.
Yes and no. Ambiance, service was really good and the waiters made everything to give us a great experience. First dishes were amazing and so was the wine. The main courses were unfortunately not to our liking. All together a nice experience but not sure to revisit.
