Interesting new flavors to taste
It was a interesting mix of flavors, we overall enjoyed it and my kids tried all the dishes. Their drink, no 51 is in the menu had noodles made of jelly that made it unique. I overall recommend the experience
Be the first to ReplyBest Laksa in LA
Borneo Kalimantan Indonesian Cuisine The perfect soup for a cool day. Itโs been years since Iโve been looking for a really good Singaporean style Laksa in Los Angeles and itโs been tough. Laksa is a coconut-based soup with spicy curry popular in some Southeast Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Kalimantan food is the type of cooking served on the island of Borneo, the third largest island in the world, where there are three countries and part of that is under Indonesia. The laksa has the perfect al dente mee hon noodle, with fish cake, shrimp, fermented egg and tofu. Itโs spicy and immediately my forehead is sweating. Perfect on a cold day in LA, or a hot summer in Asia. Their chicken satay is crunchy and coated with the peanut sauce. The Roti is thinly prepared with a side of sweet curry dipping sauce. What surprised us is the Nasi Rendang. Nasi is Indonesian for rice. Itโs beef rendang with a coconut based stew paired with rice cooked in coconut milk, side of fermented dilis(fried anchovy), fermented egg and tofu is am explosion of flavors in our mouth. In a wordโ Uber deliciousโ. Okay this place deserves two words and the Michelin recommendation. Itโs a 40 mile drive and so worth it because next time, weโll be salivating every mile as we snake our way through Pasadena into Alhambra for one of the best Singaporean-Indonesian meal in Los Angeles.

If you want to get a taste of Indonesia's Kalimantan cuisine, this is the place. All the food we tried tasted delicious. Service was good and prices were reasonable.
Be the first to ReplyBest nasi campur and rojak
It's been over 9 years since we had nasi campur from here, this place is a must stop place to eat. Taste still the same as i as remembers and the rojak still tasty authentically, noodle a bit different but ok.

First time trying it and its amazing. Always wanted to try but always intimidated by the long lines. The noodles and flavors remind me of the hawker centers in southeast asia. I loved the chicken satay; chicken is tender and the satay sauce is great. The dry noodles and the kwe tiau were great and very flavorful. Portions are decent size.

Simple restaurant face that is bigger than it seems! We stopped by around 12:30 on a Sunday and were super lucky to beat the lunch bunch rush--there were groups of people waiting even after we left! The first thing I noticed was the Michelin 2019 stamp by their door and the menu! Definitely made me extra excited to eat :). We ordered #8, a chewy thick noodle dish with bbq pork without soup, #31, the laksa mee Singapore which is coconut soup based, the gado gado, and mix of cooked and raw salad with eggs and tofu with a peanut sauce drizzle, and #41, the nasi kampur rice dish with chicken, sausage, and bbq pork. I'm not a big fan of coconut milk so I was a bit nervous about the laksa mee. I have to say, the coconut flavor isn't that strong but you definitely get hints of it and it's slightly on the sweeter side, but it gets spicier as you continue eating. The noodles were also really chewy which was amazing! I personally loved #8. The noodles were definitely thick and with a little bit of hot sauce, the dish was perfect, especially paired with the side of chicken broth that they give you. I had a bite of the rice dish and thought it was pretty average. The meat is nicely seasoned, but there weren't any veggies on it (and I love veggies!). We did have the gado gado but I thought the peanut sauce was a bit overpowering. And the mix of raw and cooked vegetables confused me. Overall, I would stick with the noodle dishes. The plus side is that their service is very speedy so if you are super hungry and there isn't a wait, you'll get food faster than you can say "Borneo"!
Be the first to ReplyBoth Singapore and Indonesian Food
I had eaten here a number of years before when it first opened. The ambiance and food have both improved tremendously. We had lunch and it was packed with mostly Asians when we got there about noon on a Monday. All the meals ordered were good though the Singapore dish I had was a bit on the plain side. We definitely will return for more adventures in Indonesian cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Delicious Southeast Asian Cuisine
The thing about SE Asian cuisine is that it needs to be authentic - authentic spices, cooking method, and ingredients, or it just doesn't taste right. And unlike Cantonese or Shanghainese food, it is quite difficult to find great SE Asian food here in the valley. The good news is that Borneo Kalimantan Cuisine is the real deal. Flavors are delightful and will remind you of home (if you are from SE Asia). The menu is limited, and mostly noodles-based, which is perhaps the only downside to this establishment.

Weโve lived in Alhambra for almost 3 years, and for 3 years, weโve drove by this place and thereโs always a line out the door. We finally decided to try it one night and we certainly know why! The noodles are so good, you canโt really go wrong. The bread appetizer is a must!
