Lovely Inn but beware of noisy neighbor
I feel bad leaving a critical review because the majority of our stay was wonderful but we will not be return visitors for one reason. This inn is next to a pub that blasts club music from 10:00pm-1:00am (at least in Fri/Sat nights like we experienced) and you can heard the pounding bass even in the Harbor House across from the main inn. We stayed with an infant and were given no warning as to the extreme noise at night. Thankfully traveling with a baby means we had our own white noise machine but this was still not enough to drown out the pounding music. It was not right to give no heads up about the noise when booking. Now, if you are traveling at another time of the week or can sleep through anything this place is actually very nice. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy. The walkability to the rest of downtown Newport was perfect and the fresh baked pastries left at the door in the morning was truly delightful. Feel bed to leave a negative review but transparency is important!
Be the first to ReplyGreat location and marvelous restaurant.
The room was adequate. It was clean and a good location. As they do not serve breakfast, fresh pastry and homemade yogurt was left at the room each morning. A nice treat. Don't miss dinner at their restaurant. Exceptional.
Be the first to ReplyA lovely place to stay
I loved the stay. It was a little hairy checking in as we didn't know where to park........they are on the main stretch and traffic is not very forgiving. We were told to turn right down the adjacent alley where a very nice lady met us and told us where to park. This is an older building which had been renovated. There was a noise problem at first but my husband rolled a blanket and put it on the floor beneath the door going into the adjoining room. I also put a note on the entry door of that suite that the walls were thin and never heard another noise all night. The staff was great. There was a microwave and refrigerator stocked with water and juice. The Keurig had enough pods to last the week had we wished to stay that long. The room was comfortable and a short walk to the water via the side street. Though we did not eat at the Bouchard Inn, we had many options for dining along this very busy street. I forgot to mention the lovely breakfast of pastry and yogurt left on our door in the morning. I would highly recommend this.
Be the first to ReplyQUIET, DELIGHTFUL SMALL HOTEL/INN perfect in every way!
What a fabulous small hotel/inn! We stayed in a suite in the Harbor House and felt like we had our own small apartment complete with living room and small kitchen, and our own private entrance! The hotel is at the upper end of Thames and away from the crowds so nice and quiet, but within easy walking distance of all the shopping and restaurants. The staff including Carmen and Sarah (the owner) could not have been nicer and more helpful in all ways. Such a gem of a small restaurant with two fabulous restaurants, Chanterelle and The Revolving Door and a small 7 seat sidewalk bar! And continental breakfast delivered to our door every morning! My husband and I highly recommend Bouchard!
Be the first to ReplyLovely Overnight!
The weather was perfect so we decided to celebrate Mother's Day just a bit early and head to Newport. We wanted a spot with a well reviewed restaurant and this filled the bill! We had room 4 on the second floor facing the water. We can see the water but it's not a full view. If we had been there at the right time I'm sure the sunset would have been beautiful since there were 6 windows making for wonderful light in the room. Our room was large with a king bed, very comfortable. We had a big leather sofa with coffee table and two chairs with table. Fridge/freezer had OJ, milk, water, and coffee creamer. There was also a Keurig with plenty of tea and coffee pods. All was spotless. Since the Inn is located on a busy street, we were even provided with ear plugs and a white noise machine to make sleeping easier. We didn't need either. Breakfast is delivered in the morning - hot fruit pastry and a yogurt fresh fruit parfait - very good. Staff was very welcoming. I can't complain about much. I will say the bed was very high and I'm short. Finally found a step stool in the closet. Not sure I would have been able to climb in without it! Would I stay again?? Absolutely!!
Be the first to ReplyLa Bouchard- great experience
Wonderful experience in downtown Newport. Helpful & friendly service, bedroom suite perfect. Nice in-room breakfast. Didn’t have the opportunity to try the Chanterelle Restaurant below, but will on next trip. Can be a bit noisy at night (several restaurants close by), but nothing intolerable. Strongly recommend for couples.

Made the reservation online after speaking with someone at hotel. In search engine I included one child, when I clicked on hotel, not all of the info transferred over. I made reservations for two different rooms. One for our friends and their two children, and one for my husband and I and our teenage daughter. I booked the lilac room for our friends and the windward room for us. The windward room is a deluxe king room and I thought it had a sofa. I sent my friend a copy of the confirmation. A couple of weeks before our arrival, I got another confirmation that the inn was charging my credit card for one night for each room. I sent it to my friend. She texted me and said I don’t think the kids are listed on the receipt. She called the hotel and wound up paying an extra $25 per night for each of her two kids. I was at work so I said I’ll call them tomorrow. I called, no answer. Then I just forgot until the night before and I just told my husband we would pay for our daughter when we paid the balance. My husband, daughter, and I arrived at the inn a bit early and our rooms weren’t ready so waited for the front desk person to call her manager to see if we could check in an hour early but the rooms weren’t ready so we walked around a bit. We then came back with our friends and we asked if we could split the balance on two credit cards and once again the front desk person couldn’t answer if she could do that. I also informed her that my daughter needed to be added to our room and she nodded. Carmen came back and charged both of our cards. We went quickly to our rooms to throw some bags on the beds and as I walked out of the room to get our luggage the front desk person stopped me to ask if my daughter was with me or in the other room. I said she’s my daughter, she’s in my room. And she said ok. So not a minute later I’m getting the luggage out of the car with my husband and Carmen calks me on the phone telling me that the room I booked was only for two people and our third person was in violation of their fire code and I explained that I had chosen the rooms based on a search I did that included the kids and that I had also spoken with someone at the hotel the same day I booked the rooms. She kept me on the phone arguing for five minutes and I just said can I come in and talk about this? I go to my room and Carmen is standing in the room, not in the front desk area, and I realize there is no sofa in the room. For the next fifteen minutes, all she does is smugly argue with me saying that i couldn’t have made the reservations in the way I described and that when she goes away with her friends she makes her reservations the appropriate way. And she just kept repeating this over and over again. So I finally said okay, I get it already, and then she just continued to stand there saying that I was the one talking I’m circles. Then she said that since we were violating their fire code, that we should please not leave our third guest in the room in the event of a fire. Like I need a total stranger to tell me that I shouldn’t leave my child in a burning building. My husband then said okay what is the solution here because you just keep saying the same thing over and over again. So she said it’s fine, I will make sure to bring a continental breakfast for your third party. And the whole time she acted like we did something horrible. I didn’t hide my daughter in the car and try to sneak her in. So it just left us feeling not great at the start of our vacation and the kicker was that they gave us the wrong room. I didn’t realize it until I looked at our receipt - they put us in a smaller room instead of the windward room that we had booked and confirmed. I didn’t even bother going back down to argue with them, they were completely exhausting to begin with. Regarding the inn - it’s definitely noisy, the housekeeping person kept the back door open all day so we were freezing both days we were there. The toilet doesn’t flush well, there’s no water pressure in the shower. There is nowhere to sit and have a drink or just chat with friends unless you stay in your room. The hood stuff - the water is hot, the rooms are clean, there is an air conditioner that you can put on very low to drown out some of the outside noise without freezing in the room, the beds are super comfortable and there are lots of extra pillows and blankets (we made a very comfortable bed fort on the floor for my daughter who happily slept on a tower of pillows and blankets). We have been coming to Newport annually for over 20 years and had never stayed at this inn before. We will not stay here again due to the crappy attitudes of the staff, there are too many other places in Newport. Outside of the two staff members it was a pleasant and comfortable stay.

We stayed at the Ivy Lodge, not the Bouchard Inn,The Ivy Lodge was excellent in every way. Well staffed, excellent room, beds, breakfast, open coffee tea and snack area, beautiful living room, and very good location in Newport. The Trolley Tour with visit to the Breakers was wonderful. Good restaurants near the Hotel. Jo's American, and well known White Horse Taver.

Centrally located in the heart of Newport’s main thoroughfare. Rooms are well appointed, clean and spacious. The staff were all warm and friendly. Room also includes a delicious continental breakfast. I will definitely return!

We have made a tradition of booking the Alberta suite for the weekend following Thanksgiving. With such a prime location, we love to explore the new shops and businesses and revisit old haunts. Unless leaving Newport, there’s no need to move your car as walking to all the sights is so enjoyable - and parking is free with your reservation. And, of course, we’re always sure to reserve a night for Bouchard’s restaurant - now to be Chanterelle. As the suite is perfect for two couples with 2Q Br/2Ba, full kitchen and large living room space, we would make just one suggestion. After five years of stays, the living room furniture could use a revamp. Many nights we would enjoy staying in with wine, cheese etc. and catch a TV movie but recently found the furnishings uncomfortable for 4 adults. We’re planning to return and hope to see an upgrade in the future. If Newport is in your travel plans, make Bouchard’s your go-to spot!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Inn!
Beautiful hotel located in the heart of Thames Street. Friendly staff, clean & comfortable room. We stayed in the room that people said was loud, because it was next to the Irish pub, Perhaps because it was in December, it was not loud at all. Parking was definitely a perk & was easy to find. We would definable stay there again.

The Bouchard Inn was excellent! We were in Newport for a wedding and we chose this based on value and location. We win! The room is so inviting. It is well equipped with coffee station and fridge and the furnishings were comfortable and clean! Checkin was easy and George was a perfect host . Breakfast was brought to our room with delicious pastries and yogurt. PLUS, there is off street parking.!!! Our stay was short, but we will definitely come back to Bouchard Inn for a longer visit!

This little inn has a fine restaurant with excellent French food. The service is attentive but not intrusive. They even brought us complimentary champagne as it was our anniversary! We will definitely plan on coming again soon!

This inn was perfect for our long family weekend. The location was excellent and there were lots of nice touches to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The morning pastries were terrific as well!

We had a great one night stay here. We stayed in two rooms (6 people) Syrah and Brittany that had a door so we could make them a larger adjoining suite. The location, parking, and fresh breakfast were great! The staff was helpful and kept us up to date prior to our stay.

Newport has always been the place we call our second home. Usually staying at some of the more commercialized locations, we were blown away y how great the Bouchard was. From the morning pastry’s to a night cap with Vegas at Sarah’s bar, we felt nothing but joy during our stay. The owners were personable and gracious hosts and can’t wait for a return visit!
