Café Central Wien Reviews
Grand Coffeehouse Magic
Opulent room, excellent cakes, and efficient service even when it's busy. Come for a melange and a slice of Esterhazy stay to soak in the old world charm.

Lives up to the Hype
Does it get any better. Very touristy, but the servers treat you like a local. Desserts are out of this world. Coffee was good, but you come here for the deserts and possible the best we have ever had in our life. Line moved fast and worth the wait.
To Apple Strudel with the nicest people
A must cafe to visit. Totally fantastic. The best food and cake in Vienna. But most importantly the best customer service possible nicest people. I will be back every year. Book in advance not to miss it.
Quick breakfast and delicious pastries
This cafe was a planned stop, but we were also lucky enough to find it was right next to our hotel. We arrived early to pickup breakfast pastry for breakfast before heading to Schonbrunn Palace, but found there was a table available so stopped instea
Overpriced Tourist Trap
Cafe Central is a tourist trap of the highest order. Overpriced coffee, pastries and incredibly snotty service. The atmosphere is stunning.
Great Lunch - Try to Prebook a table!
Great lunch experience, a 'must see' so we had to see what the fuss was about. We luckily had pre-booked a table, so were able to skip the long line for walk in's, the walk in queue did seem to move at a good pace but we had a flight
Iconic
We didn’t make reservations so we had to join the line up. The line up wasn’t that bad, I think we waited 30 mins. We ordered the old Viennese soup and Cafe Central club sandwich. Both were good but nothing to write home about. We also ordere
Resting on its reputation
This is a lovely building/ room with lots of history. But the service was extremely slow, especially for the waiter to acknowledge that we had been placed at a table in his area. Hot chocolate was delicious but the chocolate cake was nothing to write
Worth the wait
A very historic coffee house which many famous names frequented in the past. We turned up at 9:30am on a Saturday and it took around 30 minutes of queuing to get in. It was worth it. It's quite a grand coffee house. The waiters were excellent.
An iconic coffee place any visitor should try
We were in line for 35 minutes before being seated. I guess people come here for its history more rather than admiration of its cuisine. As always, the vibe was good and the decor reminds of the era where famous celebrities like Beethoven, Stalin....
Good coffee
I was there on a business meeting and I liked the desert that they have it is good with coffee and I like the atmosphere we had a good chat with coffee
Unmissable!
Thanks to Peter, we spent an amazing moment with a dedicated, kind and perfect services! Food is very nice, dessert amazing! But the most important has been this incredible Peter!
Touristenfalle
Total tourist trap. The ambience is interesting but the food is mediocre and the service is the same. Overpriced food and drink. Stop in, take a photo and go elsewhere.
Great lunch at Viena
Awesome lunch on a Monday afternoon. We tried 3 different dishes, salmon, pork and beef; each with a unique flavor. The desserts were delicious chocolate cake lemon pie and peanuts caramel/ The service given by our waitress Leo was awesome.
Get all the pastries possible
Best cafe in Vienna! Yes, it involves a line but the pastries and desserts are phenomenal! The location is beautiful and the service was the best we experienced in Vienna.
Lovely place with medicore taste
Making a reservation is a must thing otherwise you have to wait a long queue which makes your visit worse because althoug it is a historical place the food and cafe could not match with the history and expectation.
Wonderful place
What a sweet place. Thanks so much to our wonderful nice waiter always smiling. This place is a real classy restaurant as it should be. Everybody are so professional and intelligent. The atmosphere is great thanks to the team. Bravo! We will definite
Cake Heaven!
This place should be ranked No 1 & not No 14! Amazing place. Friendly, attentive staff, amazing setting, interior decor is incredible. The only thing I was worried about was the price, but this was great too! The cakes are to die for! Incredible
Old world charm
I'm visiting some famous coffee shops and this was one of the best! Beautiful old world charm interior. Very efficient and attentive staff. You don't feel rushed although the queue is long outside the door. The apfelstrüdel was great and I can
Dissapointing, pricey , rude, slow but beautiful architecture and pastry art
The beautiful architecture of the restaurant, its rich history topped and the beautiful assortment of tortes an pasteries were a unique experience. Unfortunately the service was snotty. I happened to spill some water on the table which may not be id
Top for food and service
Lovely food, excellent service from our waiter. The surroundings were very nice. Absolutely recommend the goulash (delicious). We had booked in advance as two of our group live in Vienna. Longish queue of people hoping to get in when we left
Very touristic, but also visited by locals. Good quality and service.
It is not easy to get a place, early morning for breakfast is ideal. The food is good and the staff friendly amd good. Many tourists who make pictures of the food. Mr. Leo was a very funny waiter.
A lovely experience!
On our second morning of our trip (15th March), the group and I decided to try this well recommended cafe, known for its famous clientele throughout the years. This was the first cafe we saw with a queue out the door and we took that as a good sign (
Style over Substance
We decided to head in for breakfast at 8am on our way to the airport on our last morning. As it was first thing in the morning there was no queue and the cafè was half full when we arrived. We we underwhelmed with our visit. The staff were pleasant.
Don’t even bother.
Don’t even bother going here, as a party of 3 we queued for circa 45 minutes, one member of the group is in her 70’s. There was a maitre d allowing people in, however rather than first come first served basis, they would let larger groups in, reg
please do not come here
not worth wasting time tbh. we were not hosted very well. and their attitude was not the best.
Great Atmosphere and Great Service!
The atmosphere at Central Cafe was so so nice! The food was delicious, I got the traditional Austrian Breakfast and thought it was more than enough to fill me up and it was delicious. Our waiter was very kind and even chased us down to return somethi
Do it and tick it off the to do list for Vienna, but don't expect much from it.
Its on the tourist circuit, so felt less than authentic. Impression some locals frequenting the place, but its more of a tourist attraction, with perhaps tourist attraction prices. unimpressed by the dry cakes. Having had both the Cafe Central spe
If it’s good enough for Freud…….
Heart sank when I saw the queue but it moved very quickly. So all good. Had the goulash which lacked punch but was pleasant enough. To be honest you’re not really here for the savoury dishes. It’s the patisserie and the strudel, which were superb

Let's say Peter has a great morning and decides to take his three friends to Café Central Wien at 6 PM the same day.
He checks the restaurant's website and sees that no reservations are available. He then looks at the Café Central Wien page on AppointmentTrader, but finds that there are no user postings either.
That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.
Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.
Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* GallantAnswer60, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's $200 bid.
* GallantAnswer60 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to GallantAnswer60 for any questions Peter may have as GallantAnswer60 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* GallantAnswer60 now uses their connections at Café Central Wien to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If GallantAnswer60 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, GallantAnswer60 receives the $200 reward which is credited to GallantAnswer60's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Café Central Wien!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
