I came here last night with a few friends who had been wanting to check it out for quite some time now. I was excited to try something a little more adventurous, since smaller cities like Lafayette don't always have diverse dining scenes! We walked in, and the restaurant felt outdated and dive-y, but in a comforting, nostalgic kind of way. It was a Saturday evening, so I would have expected it to be a little busier, but I think that based on its location, Cafe Habana City is the kind of place that doesn't see too much foot traffic, unfortunately. There was a sign saying to seat ourselves, so we did, and after a couple minutes a server came to take our drink orders. I ordered the mojito, one of my friends ordered an old fashioned, and we ordered waters for the table. The server told us that it may be a little bit before we get our cocktails, as the bartender had a few drink orders ahead of us. After about 10 or so minutes, the old fashioned came out, and the mojito followed shortly behind. The bartender delivered the old fashioned and said she used a lemon peel because she was out of orange peels, and my friend seemed to like it a lot. My mojito was great! It balanced the mint and lime nicely and had a faint sweetness that brought it all together. We were never brought menus, as our server seemed to be juggling a lot, but it was all good because we had looked up the menu online and decided what we want. We placed our orders, and after several minutes, the server came to tell me they were out of the Pollo Empanizado, so I replaced it with the Bistec de Puerco, which was the same thing, just with pork instead of chicken.By the time the food came out, I had finished my mojito, and the server said it was only $7.50 or so, so I ordered another one! A few bites into my meal, the first mojito started to creep up on me, and I was feeling it!!My food came with two sides, and I had ordered the Papas Fritas (fries--basic, I know), and Tostones, which were double fried green plantains. The fries were standard fries, and the tostones were great! They had a nice, crunchy texture, and with a flavor that wasn't too sweet or salty or rich. The fried pork was amazing! I got about four large pieces of it. The breading had the perfect thickness, and the meat was tender and juicy. There was some sort of oily sauce that came with my food, and though I'm not sure what it was, everything went quite well with it!I left pretty intoxicated and with a full stomach, all for $31.95 pre-tip ($40 post tip). It was a chill meal with a laidback environment. I'd come back!
