Cafe La Haye Sonoma Reviews
We had an excellent dining experience at Cafe La Haye.
Our waitress, Gabriela was wonderful. She was so friendly, attentive and checked in with us through out our dinner to see if we needed anything, and to make sure were happy with our dishes. It was our first time there, and her recommendations on what to order were spot on! Kasa also took care of us through out the evening. Kasa was meticulous when it came to ensuring the table setting and our food presentation were perfect. He was also so pleasant to talk to. And, the food was excellent!!! We had Butter Lettuce Salad, Braised Short Ribs in Puff Pastry, Risotto with prawns and Tagliarini Pasta. Everything was cooked perfectly and delicious. The entire staff was so pleasant and we got meet and talk to the Chef before we left. We highly recommend Cafe La Haye for an excellent dining experience. We will definitely go back.
Loved our dinner at Cafe La Haye.
The vibe is relaxed and authentic, and the food was awesome. The pork chop was one of the best I've ever had, the sole was fresh and perfectly prepared, and the burrata with seasonal tomatoes was simple and flavorful in just the right ways. Everything tasted top-quality and was cooked perfectly. Service was warm and attentive, rounding out a truly great experience. A true gem that sticks with you.
Cafe La Haye is one of the best restaurants in Sonoma, CA.
Its fresh and delicious dishes
A Sonoma Must.
... We understand why reservations are usually booked well in advance. The ambiance was welcoming and comfortable. The staff was personable and well versed on their evening's selections. The meal was an absolute epicurean delight.

Just amazing!!!! Service was impeccable food clean and to die for. Expensive dinner but completely worth every penny. We both ordered the salmon which just flaked away and was perfect parings with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Wine was so-so though it didn't make a difference. Will be back on all those special occasions.

Definitely Not a Michelin Star Experience--for Service, at Least CafΓ© La Haye may have the food game going, but if Michelin gave stars for service, our waiter would be deep in the negatives. My sister and I were treated like we had activated stealth mode--no greetings, no service, not even a glance. I half expected him to say, "This aggression will not stand, man," but instead, we got nothing. Just pure paraquat energy. Thankfully, Christina (the manager and clearly the restaurant's MVP) came to the rescue. She was attentive, kind, and made sure we finally got food on the table and a little joy back in our evening. If not for her, I'd be warning everyone off entirely. Would I recommend it? Only if Christina's working--and if you don't mind earning your meal through sheer perseverance. So thank you, Christina, for bringing some soul and service to the evening. CafΓ© La Haye is lucky to have you--now if only your staff could follow your lead and recognize the living among their diners!!
This was my second visit to Cafe La Haye and although it's
This was my second visit to Cafe La Haye and although it's been a while since the first one, everything was just as perfect as I remembered the first time. It's small and intimate right off the historic square of downtown Sonoma. The staff is warm and welcoming. Because of its size, be sure to make a reservation well in advance. We started with a glass of wine from their very nice wine list . We decided to pass on appetizers and went directly to the butter lettuce, salad, and the Caesar salad. Both were beautifully presented & perfectly dressed with tender fresh greens and in the case of the butter lettuce, salad, crispy, bacon, avocado, and a hard boiled egg. For our mains, we enjoyed the pork chop, which was slightly overcooked, and they immediately offered to remedy that by the way, and the pappardelle pasta special of the night with shrimp. we saved a little room for some dessert since we were celebrating a birthday, and the fresh fruit apple crisp with ice cream with a cappuccino was worth every single calorie , Yum! Don't miss this little gem. Next time you are in Sonoma. It will not disappoint.
This place was great.
The food and service were fantastic. For mains we shared the pork chop and one of the specials, handmade tagliatelle with prawns. They were both so delicious! We were torn on desserts, so we ordered the apple crisp for there and got a slice of chocolate silk cake to go, which we enjoyed a few hours later. Both desserts were amazing.

Had some insane quail with this gruyere and leek bread pudding? Absolutely crazy. Definitely a nice spot for a fancy dinner.

Was really excited to try this restaurant as it's on the Michelin guide for Sonoma restaurants and it did not disappoint! The hostess and our waitress were both extremely friendly and gave us the best recommendations. Everything we ordered was exceptional but the standout dishes I really enjoyed were the braised short rib in puff pastry appetizer and the seasonal fish just melts in your mouth. You can tell the produce and meat they use are of the highest quality. We ended off the night with a couple of desserts and the warm apple pie cobbler paired with vanilla ice cream was truly amazing. A small but inviting restaurant that has everything you could ever want - amazing food, even better people and a cozy atmosphere!
A Must-Have Addition to Your Reservation List
There really is nothing like Sonoma Valley during this time of year. The weather is crisp, the crowds dwindle and places like Cafe La Haye never have an off-season. Always delightful and delightful in all ways: the specials, our favorites and the wine combined to make a highly enjoyable evening...only to be outdone by the impeccable, but welcoming, service. Saul and his team are the best.
Dining the way it should be!
Great spot. Professional and pleasant service, Good pace on all courses. Food was outstanding. Somewhat limited menu which makes the restaurant what it is - an intimate high quality dining experience. Nice fairly priced wine list. Especially appreciated was the recitation of all specials with prices noted. So many restaurants fail to do so today. Great job, great dinner.
Grand Slam On Our First Night in Sonoma!!
My wife and I ate here on a Friday, our first night in Sonoma. We were so disappointed to learn that they are closed on Mondays because we were planning on coming back. It was that good. The place has a great vibe and the food and service are exceptional. Hostess Christina and our server, Esther, could not have been more genuinely friendly and professional. The menu, from appetizers to desserts, along with the nightly specials, made for many difficult choices. Cafe La Haye is a must when visiting Sonoma.
You must go
Fantastic food. Fantastic service. Got the short rib in pastry puff, the mushroom and squash risottos and the lemon cheesecake. Hands down best meal (and service) weβve had in a while. Cute little place, only seats 35 or so. Feels like youβre in a romantic cafe. Highly recommend.
My favorite Sonoma restaurant
My favorite restaurant. Thanks Saul and Christina for an amazing meal. Best steak in town but today was salmon special for the wife and chicken for me. Everything they serve is delicious
Great food and wines, gluten-free no problem
Nice atmosphere, not too loud. We had some good wines, a Billecart-Salmon champagne and a Dumol Chard. I loved the menu - had a short rib pastry, pappardelle, and butterscotch pudding. No problem for gluten-free for a celiac. Excellent service.

Cafe La Haye is located in the downtown Sonoma Square and is highly regarded for its delicious Californian cuisine. Their intimate atmosphere and dining experience is to die for! Their menu consists of seasonal delights , featuring locally sourced ingredients prepared with creativity and skill. The cozy ambiance and attentive service is an essential ingredient to a lovely night out. Overall, it's known as a charming spot for a memorable dining experience in Sonoma wine country! I will definitely be visiting again on my next trip
First time visit to Cafe La Haye and it was a great
First time visit to Cafe La Haye and it was a great experience! Service was impeccable, friendly, prompt and great recommendations. Food was amazing and between 5 of us, we sampled many menu items, from the trout tartare, bibb lettuce salad, pork chops, fried chicken, pasta, and risotto with crispy calamari. Desserts were equally tasty, and overall it was a great evening
We really wanted to like this restaurant as we have been
We really wanted to like this restaurant as we have been looking forward to visiting for many years ( we live about 2 hours away). While many of the dishes were very good, the odors wafting from the fishy deep fryer in the kitchen was a total turn off. It was so noticeable that after our meal we left our clothes outside of our hotel room on the balcony to "air out". Perhaps, we are over sensitive to the deep fryer smell, but it was hard to enjoy our meal in that atmosphere. The service was fine. Considering there were many open tables, there didn't seem to be any reason to rush us as they knew we were celebrating a special occasion. The menu is rather small but there were almost as many specials as there were on the menu. The only waitress that evening spent almost 5 minutes sharing the specials. It was very difficult for us to remember what they were. She did really well describing them and she had to go to every table and do the same. Why not consider printing out a specials menu, one per table? Food 4 stars, Service 3 stars, Ambiance 0
Wonderful place
Fantastic place ,great food will come again ! Great atmosphere ,lovely attentive staff and very reasonably priced ,thanks
A must stop every time we come to Sonoma.
The owner, Saul, treats you like family. Reservation's highly suggested!
We had such a good dinner! First off, just have to say
We had such a good dinner! First off, just have to say service was amazing. Esther was so delightful and checked in on us often. Love her! And she made sure my coffee cup was never empty. Which I needed after wine tasting. We started with the Beef Carpaccio which had fried oysters (my favorite part). I had one of the specials, the Tombo Tuna. The curry sauce was delicious! Tuna was seared on the outside and raw on the inside. I loved it! Hubs ordered the Pork Loin which wasn't as visually exciting but the flavors were definitely there. It had a sweeter sauce that went well and the gnocchi hidden beneath the chop was good. I can see how it's one of their popular dishes. And for desert my husband ordered the warm Almond cake with salted caramel ice cream, which satisfied his sweety tooth. Everything was delicious, service was great. The space is small and cozy. Definitely a great place to have dinner when you're in Sonoma.
Our dessert came out with a black hair on it.
..once we pointed it out and they took it away, their response was offering to bring us a new piece, which was pointless as we were grossed out and just wanted to leave the dining room. We refused any dessert and their response was they were sorry that happened and they were gracious to not make us pay for the cheesecake we never ate. I would expect more...my whole meal should have been comped or at least a discount from the meal. Human hair served on food delivered is not acceptable.
This restaurant is five star.
Small restaurant so you are very near other diners. Recommend reservations . The food is great, the service impeccable.

One year later on our trip through Sonoma and we had to return to Cafe La Haye. Still as excellent as it was a year ago. Food, service, and wine were all top notch. We were lucky enough to have Ester as our server again. She has such enthusiasm about the menu. Her descriptions of the extensive specials were detailed and spot on. I have no idea how she remembers such fine details of an ever changing menu. A true professional! We started with the chop salad as a starter, which I could have every day and not get tired of. I returned to the pork chop for my main, which was a generous cut. My partner had the chicken special, which was beyond generous in size and very tasty. We cheated again this time and had dessert. That butterscotch pudding is utter perfection. We can't wait to return next year during our annual trip through Sonoma.
Wonderful 2nd visit

Consistently delicious and impeccable service.
We've been dining at Cafe La Haye for the past 2 or 3 years. We always look forward to our meals there and have always enjoyed the experience. The food is fresh, flavorful and always superb. We also enjoy bringing friends who haven't yet dined there. The service is always wonderful as well and if you're lucky enough to have Ester as your server it will be amazing!
Just off the square in downtown Sonoma, CafΓ© Le Haye has
Just off the square in downtown Sonoma, CafΓ© Le Haye has been a stalwart of the Wine Country dining scene since 1996. While small with only 34 seats, the dining room has large windows facing the street and mirrors on the walls that give the illusion of a larger space. Overlooking the kitchen, the small bar has four of the best seats in the house, allowing patrons to get a great view of the food preparation action. Topped with two delicious fried oysters, the beef carpaccio ($17) disappeared all too quickly. Juicy and moist, the pork loin chop ($34) was huge and grilled to perfection. There's generally a risotto dish that changes daily. Don't miss the decadent butterscotch pudding for desert. The wine list is small, but well curated with a good selection of by the glass offerings. Service is spot on: water glasses never go unfilled, used dishes are removed almost immediately and your selections appear exactly on time. Owner Saul Gropman is usually manning the front of the house. CafΓ© Le Haye is probably the finest non-prix fixe restaurant in Sonoma.
We have been to Cafe La Haye about 100 times, starting in
We have been to Cafe La Haye about 100 times, starting in 1999. We have never had a bad meal or bad experience. The food is wonderful ( always looks and tastes great). It has a wonderful wine list. The staff are always helpful, polite, and friendly. It is decorated very nice and the ambiance is great. The other customers are always having a good time, usually celebrating something. I've never seen noisy or out of control customers. We go to Cafe La Haye when we want to celebrate an occasion or just want a wonderful night out. Cafe La Haye is the best restaurant in Sonoma ( we've been to them all) and among the best in the county. You can not go wrong at Cafe La Haye. Enjoy
Delicious food, disappointing service. Why give a 7:30 reservation when the kitchen closes at 8:15?
On our recent trip to Sonoma we made sure to make reservations here. Our reservation was for 7:30. Arriving at 7:20 we were seated in short order. We ordered a delicious tomato salad and carpaccio with a fried oyster. The meat was fairly thick but delicious. Our server checked on us too frequently, finally telling us the kitchen closes at 8:15. We chose not to order a main meal. Asking us if we wanted desert I said no and was finishing my birthday champagne. Upon her return we asked for two cappuccinos. Five minutes later she returned to say the kitchen was closed and couldnβt get us our cappuccinos but would I like dessert??? The cappuccino was to be my dessert!! We felt rushed. The restaurant was still fairly full when we exited at 8:20. The kitchen was nearby with a lot of banging while we ate, with the kitchen staff continually looking at us. It felt that the server was under pressure to get us out asap as everyone wanted to go home. Not relaxing, why give someone a 7:30 reservation when the kitchen closes 45β later? We will not return.
Lovely environment, delicious food
We accompanied friends who live in Sonoma for dinner at this small, lovely restaurant. All four of us raved about our food choices. Two people had the eggplant appetizer, which they both adored. Two others had the vegetarian risotto, which included ribbons of fresh vegetables and just a hint of Parmesan cheese. My husband had the carpaccio as his main course, and he couldnβt stop talking about how delicious it was. I had that eveningβs special salad, a tasty combination of arugula, cheese, nuts and figs. I can see why this restaurant is a favorite of our Sonoma friends.
A gem not to be missed
Itβs rare these days when the owner of a restaurant greets you at the door and comes by your table to ask if everything was ok and thanks you when you leave. Thatβs what you get at Cafe La Haye! Great food (loved the carpaccio with oyster on top!), ambiance, and service in Sonoma. I can see why locals love Cafe La Haye! Weβll be back!

Thank you for letting us be your guests. It was brilliant, carpacio as starter, tagiatelle and fish of the day, as main course! DankeschΓΆn π
A wonderful restaurant
We loved Cafe La Haye. It is a wonderful restaurant with outstanding service. Our server was Esther who provided us with prompt friendly service. My wife enjoyed the roasted chicken. My son and I enjoyed the beet vegetarian rissoto. The rissoto was simply outstanding. We loved it here!!
Over the top good!
Incredible is the best description. The interior was welcoming, with beautiful paintings on the walls. We were met with happiness right when we walked in and it was such a great way to start. Our server was exceptional, she made eye contact with both of us while explaining the specials. We ordered the special beet salad and fish of the day. Both of these dishes were beyond expectation, fast and perfect portions. The only thing that was better than the entrees was the desert. The chocolate cake was sooo good. We made a point to return as soon as possible.
Great Dinner Place
Wonderful dinner! The staff and vibe of this restaurant provide a lot of energy - but the dining experience is relaxed and enjoyable! Our food was excellent too!
Elegant.
Intimate and the best pork chop of your life. A lovely owner. Great wine list and the best foodie place in Sonoma. MKe a reservation!!
Donβt think, just do, you will be happy you do
Oh MY! Four buddies in town for a long weekend to celebrate our collective 50th birthdays and someone recommended Cafe La Haye as a great place if wanting amazing food and a relaxed, but generally upscale vibe. Nailed it. Every one of us LOVED every appetizer and entree (and we all have varying tastes, etc.) and have all been to some nice restaurants yet easily claimed this to be one of the best we ever visited. SO happy we came here.
Valentine's Dinner
I made a mistake making online reservations for Valentine's Day but the owner went out of his way to seat us! He was extremely accommodating and very nice about it. It was a price fixed menu but plenty of choices. The meal and service were 5+ Stars!! Beautiful presentation and honestly on par with the very best restaurants that we've visited Anyplace. Make it a priority to eat there if you are visiting Sonoma...I can't wait to eat there again!!
Superb meal, one of the best I've had in awhile.
Small menu but everything looked wonderful, and my wife's and my selections were astounding. Broccolini appetizer, mushroom Sherry purΓ©e, chicken, trout - everything was cooked and flavored perfectly. Capped off by two delicious desserts - almond cake and chocolate torte. If you're in Sonoma, go here. You will not be disappointed you did.
Always a stop when we are in Sonoma
For many, Northern California is a a tale of two valleys. We have enjoyed many restaurants in both, but a 'never to be missed' is Cafe La Hay as they deliver on the service, quality and experience of fine dining along with the warmth and ease of an evening out with friends. Put these guys on your calendar, and you will understand why this ever changing menu is not to be missed when in town.
Hands down, the best meal we had in Sonoma
On our last night in Sonoma, we had dinner at Cafe La Haye. After 3 days, this was easily the best meal that we had while in town. Picky eaters beware, the menu is tight. In my opinion, fine dining restaurants know what they have perfected and therefor everything is usually excellent. Both of our wines were delicious. A Chardonnay for me from Three Sticks and a Stone Edge Farm Sauvignon Blanc for my better half. We shared the salad special, an arugula salad with herbed goat cheese, prosciutto, and cranberries. Really excellent. Main courses were the pork chop (excellent) and the risotto special with shrimp (very good). We are not usually ones to splurge on dessert but there were several interesting options, so we treated ourselves with the butterscotch pudding and the warm almond cake with salted caramel ice cream. Both were exemplary and well worth the extra calories. All of this was strung together by superb service from Ester, who was an absolute pleasure. If weβre back in Sonoma, Cafe La Haye is now a must for us!

We were seriously blown away.
Had the fish special with yuzu and we were mind blown. Shrimp risotto was good too! Try the almond cake and the yuzu cheesecake so good!!!!
One of the Best
My wife and I live in Napa. Cafe La Haye is one of our favorite restaurants for fine casual dining. They have a small menu with many daily specials which our well-trained waitress described. This is all very impressive but we would have preferred a printed list.
