I discovered this restaurant after watching the owner
I discovered this restaurant after watching the owner showcase on channel 7 in the Today morning show. I read the reviews and visited their website, the pictures looked delicious however the food was not nearly as the pictures in their website. I ordered the pull port sandwich and was served the Pan Con Lechon, very dissapointing, the bun was old two tiny pieces of pork some sliced tomatoes and over filled with tiny fries from a can. Presentation too was very unpleasing. My friend had the tostones filled with shredded chicken the chicken was dry and tasteless. The tostones were hard and overcooked. Overpriced and under rated, I do not recommend this place, there are much better places to eat Cuban food believe me and less expensive. Save your money. Pictures are very deceiving.

I recently dined at Caja Caliente and was blown away by the great experience! The tostones were perfectly crispy, the tamales have to be one of the best tamales I have ever tried, and the mahi bowl was absolutely delicious. The team was very kind with their service, adding to the warmth of the atmosphere. If you're looking for a culinary adventure in miami this is the place to be! Don't miss out on this gem!!

I can for lunch on Friday to introduce my friend to this yummy Cuban with a twist restaurant. We got the caja caliente that comes various appetizers like empanadas (shrimp, ham), platanitos with picadillo, queso Frito with guava sauce, ham croquetas, papa rellena and more. It was a nice taste I'd all their appetizers. In my opinion the best was the plantains with picadillo and queso Frito with guava. Yummers! Now I left the best for last!! TAMAL CUBANO WITH FRIED EGG !!! I Uufffff! Just take my advice try it so you can see for yourself what delicious taste like. I have to give kudos to supervisor Chino. He was very pleasant and welcoming to my friend and. The restaurant doesn't have their own parking but there's meter parking outside. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated with Cuba artifacts.

Since I hardly venture to the Gables, it had been a long minute until I had the chance to come by. I stopped by for a late lunch / early dinner and know that I need to come by more often. Chef Mika takes a modern and creative spin on Cuban classics whether the tamal I saw on a neighboring table, or the shredded chicken bowl I enjoyed. Basically what our parents knew as a "completa" Instead of just rice and beans, you also have the option of quinoa and extra chicken. The pico de gallo and spicy dressing are the coup de grace in flavors. Looking for a sweet break from the spice? Make sure to order their fried plantain balls stuffed with picadillo (ground beef). Remember to leave space for their dessert empanadas (aka pastelitos) stuffed with guava and cheese.
Be the first to ReplyNot great not bad.
We've never eaten inside we've always gone through take out. I recommend the empanada as it tastes amazing. Always served hot. They are priced well too!
Be the first to Replywe went to this restaurant at 2 pm Sunday afternoon.
it was almost empty. two other couples besides us. we had been there a year ago and we're not too impressed. this time it was really disappointing. my husband had a kale salad with churrasco meat. the meat was very low quality. I had a tamal en cazuela. a small bowl full of pork. that's all it was. for appetizers we ordered mariquitas which we're from a bag. a Cuban restaurant should at least make its own !!!! the croquettes were good. the coffee too. I enjoy Mika's recipes on instagram but I think she's neglecting to pay attention to her restaurant! we will not return too bad. we need Cuban restaurants in Miami.
Be the first to ReplyLoved this place! Excellent Cuban food with a twist.
Awesome service by the waiters and even the owner. We were a big group and we really enjoyed the occasion there. Can't wait to come back! Un lugar con mucho sabor cubano pero con el toque moderno de Miami. Please, don't change anything!!!

1st time customers and it was excellent service from start to finish. We had the tamal with lechon on top, kale caesar salad (the Cuban bread croutons were insanely delicious) with a generous portion of chicken on top, my girls had congri with churrasco, and my husband had the vaca frita burrito. We shared the house sampler, every bite was enjoyed. However, the trifecta was the cortadito with leche evaporada, the churros with leche condensada, and the mamey ice cream. Way to bring me back to the 1980's with that delicious assortment of desserts. Happy customers!
Be the first to ReplyOrdered a burrito, guac and chips and fries.
... Took over 30 mins for my to go order and they forgot the fries.....noticed after I drove away and checked the bag. For $40 I should of went elsewhere.

I kept driving by this spot and finally one day I decided to stop by for dinner on a casual Friday night with a friend. It's like an upscale version of the Cuban sandwich shop. The decor and music is so tropical Latin Miami in a low-key vibe. We each got a guava spritz which was refreshing and we started with the Croquetas De Spicy Goat which were delicious. I got the pan con vaca frita as my main and I really enjoyed it. Service was helpful as well and everyone was really nice. I have no complaints and had a great time.

OYE MIKA!! These are the first words I yell out whenever I come to Caja Caliente. There is no better welcome than when the owner comes out from the back and stops everything she does to greet her customers. Let's also add that the food is fantastic and freshly made every time. The music played inside really makes you feel as if you're in another Hispanic country enjoying the amazing cuisine. Thank you, Mika, and especially my favorite, Lupita!

A friend suggested grabbing lunch here on a Saturday and I'm so glad I joined! I loved the cozy low key vibe and service was amazing! I even made a special request and it was gladly accommodated. We tired the disco volador which is buttery Cuban bread filled with ham croquettes and cheese served with a side of plantain chips. We also had the chicken burrito filled with congri, sweet plantains, herb aioli and cheese, served with plantain chips. IT WAS SO GOOD and an extremely generous portion. I requested to add fried cheese, and WOW! New menu item? I think so!
Be the first to ReplyA great time was had by all.
We came for brunch and will definitely be returning. Food was delicious. Service was excellent. I'd like to see more menu options just so I do t have to keep repeating. I love this place.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed with the service here.
A family of 4 was turned away on a Friday at 8:45 pm and said they were closed. The hours say open until 10 pm.We drove from Kendall and are were looking forward to enjoying a nice meal. Really disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite spots to stop by when I'm in the Gables.
I love the low key feel, you can just sit and enjoy delicious Cuban rooted food. When I first saw that they have a disco volador on their menu and I knew I was going to like it! I came with a few coworkers and we had 2 croqueta disco voladores, a side of croquetas, and a lechon bowl. The portions on the bowl are extremely generous and I love the combination of veggies and sauces. It is SO GOOD! I think the bowl is also a choice on the healthier side if you don't want to eat bread, you can either have it with quinoa or moro rice.

Their vaca frita volador is delicious! Service is always nice and homey. Food is fresh. Have ordered through delivery apps and the packaging is amazing as well. They are thoughtful with what they are putting out and the quality shows.

My first visit this afternoon and had a delicious meal! We ordered the special of the day which were Croquettes de Lechon! Amazing taste with a hint of lime. They definitely need to add them to the main menu stat Also had a the refreshing Guava Lemonade not too sweet which was great! For my main dish I ordered the Tamal Cubano which was delicious. Looking forward to going back again to try some other sandwiches and desserts.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous food and service.
I had the vaca frita burrito. To. Die for. Huge portion so I'm bringing half home. My friend had fish tacos and ate all of them. We ordered the spicy goat cheese croquetas. Not very spicy, but yummy. Margarita not too sweet. Cortadito is perfect. Flan is as good as my mom's. What else can I say?
Be the first to ReplyFood was okay.
Everyone had something different and most of it was hit or miss. Service left much to be desired. Our server seemed annoyed to have to wait on us - not sure what that was about. Maybe homie was having a bad day, but it was kind of a bummer.
Be the first to ReplyWe've visited this quaint little restaurant on the North
We've visited this quaint little restaurant on the North end of Coral Gables for lunch but this is our first time for dinner. Luis, our server, was very friendly and personable. We ordered the plantain balls filled with picadillo as an appetizer and they were delicious! We also ordered the Cuban tamal which came with a ton of meat and other toppings, definitely a must! It was scrumptious. For entrees we ordered the pargo platter (snapper) which was good but a bit dry; the burrito with octopus which was a generous serving and very good; and the bowl with vaca frita which was very tasty (also a huge portion). For dessert we shared the guava and cheese empanadas, highly recommend! The only negatives were: no chardonnay, they were out of margaritas, the bench seat was a bit uncomfortable and we thought the price (over $50 per person) was a bit high for casual food. But otherwise a great little place to try out! Excellent service and cute tropical decor.

Be the first to ReplyAnother week night Taco adventure this time to a area
Another week night Taco adventure this time to a area called Little Coral. Scored a spot just outside the restaurant. Caja Caliente is a sweet little joint : combo Cuban/Mexican food but it works! My husband and I shared the shrimp empanadas (4 per order) which were excellent! I had the Maui taco (1 to a order but are large!) my husband had a chicken taco and a pork taco. I also ordered a side of salsa & chips. Of coarse we had to have the Churros which came with a guava sauce (absolutely loved this and I am not a big fan of guava ) & a condensed milk sauce (also excellent) . We both ordered Mexican cokes (it was a school night after all) but they do have beer & wine. Our waitresses name was Ashley and she was also very sweet & funny. I felt almost like I was at a good friends house for dinner. A great vibe. A must visit.
Be the first to ReplyLouis/louise was an amazing server.
He was patient, efficient and honest. Everything he recommended was so so good. If you love you a good taco come here. They used to be a good taco truck but now they have a stand alone business. Manager was nice just the same definitely will be back. They had authentic Mexican drink products and Diet Coke and Coke Zero can as well. He also gave some good recommendations for nice scenery to go see before we head home.
