Disappointed
Sadly the table we were given was right by the bar seating where everyone was passing, we did ask if we could have a more couples intimate table but were told was reserved for share holders?? Perhaps said share holders need to know that it's the customer experience that keeps their dividends coming in! We choose to leave rather than put up with an unsustainable table for what we were hoping to be a beautiful evening with fabulous food.

Excellent service and food. Terrific ambiance. Really enjoyed the meal. It is not inexpensive. If in Santa Monica, I would go back.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing restaurant
incredible restaurant---the lobster capellini was the best pasta dish my wife and I have ever had we were there in 2016 and definitely return next time in LA
Be the first to ReplyTry the grilled meats
We tried their grilled meet for the first time, in this case it was osso buco. It was a truly incredible tasting dish. Extremely delicious and tender. Have come here many times before for the pasta, especially corn ravioli, and the chocolate soufflรฉ. We decided that we have been missing out by not also having the grilled meats.
Be the first to ReplyExpensive and So So
Food is ok but those prices.. Wow. Insane and just average Italian food. Come on guys. How can an insalata misto salad be $22. How can chicken and mushrooms cost 75. How can a slice of chocolate cake cost $24. And I agree the owners talk about a living wage and you must pay 20% tip. Are these guys serious! Believe me they can pay the servers a living wage when they charge $89 for Dover Sole. Lastly, it is annoying that when you order dinner they force you to order desert at the same time. They say they are concerned they will run out of deserts. But clearly they don't want you to linger over desert. And to pay those prices and sit in a clear tent in the parking lot with 0 atmosphere. Guys it isn't Covid anymore.. can't you spruce that clear vinyl tent up???
Be the first to ReplySECOND VISIT DISAPPOINTING
Very few restaurants continue over the years with the same level of service and food quality. They are indeed a rare number. Sadly, Capo is not one of them. Our first visit was admittedly more than several years ago. Also, it was long before Covid years. So, we do take that into consideration. Still, we have to say this Italian restaurant let us down in several respects, though not totally.
Of course, we made our reservations long in advance through the Concierge at Shutters on the Beach where we were going to stay. One would think that would assure us some level of professionalism. We had no reason to expect any issues. On our day, we walked to the restaurant for our dinner and arrived on time, if not a little early.
It was clear right away that this was a busy evening. We saw that other people arriving were talking to someone outside the entrance regarding seating. The host was seating people outside and inside. When our turn came, we asked to be seated inside because that was what we reserved. Instead, we were asked to sit outside. Now, "outside" to them was actually Cora's Coffee Shoppe (which is also owned/operated by Capo). We told the host that we had breakfast at Cora's that same morning and did not want to sit there. The host then notified the supervisor who continued to insist that we dine outside. We insisted that we dine inside Capo, not outside at Cora's. Once he knew we knew the difference, he then began to make seating arrangements for us inside Capo. We could go on and on about how bad an impression this was, but will spare you that.
We finally were seated inside and were elated to get in. We anticipated no further issues. The dining room was packed of course, so we expected that service would be on the slow side which we did experience. What we didn't expect was that the food would be less than exceptional.
My wife ordered the Mista Salad as a starter, and Salmon for her main entree. I ordered the Rigatoni and Romaine salad. For dessert, we shared the Apple Tart. Of course, we had plenty of beverages in the beginning and along the courses (capuccino and glasses of Bollinger champagne). Unfortunately, my wife's Salmon was extremely raw, not medium rare as she ordered. I mean it was quite raw. She did not want to complain and have the order taken back since we experienced such a problem even getting seated. My Rigatoni was actually exceptional! The Apple Tart was pretty good too. Both our salads were also excellent.
So, in terms of the food quality it was mixed. Of course, the restaurant was very expensive (not the most expensive we've experienced). However, one must be careful about what you order, particularly seafood/fish.
Make sure you are actually going to be seated INSIDE the restaurant (if that's what you want) and if ordering fish, don't hesitate to be as clear as you can about how it's prepared. Apparently, just saying "medium rare" (for example) isn't enough.
Since we've been there twice, we'll probably not return again. We would return to Cora's Coffee Shoppe for breakfast/brunch.
Excellent Food and Service, but pricey.
Very pricey, but well staffed and very attentive. Food was excellent! We had chicken parmesan and gnocchi pomodoro and a house salad. Greens were fresh and food came out hot! We sat outside. Outside seating is a tent in the parking lot. Well heated and decorated for being a tent. Looks like a hole in the wall place, but donโt judge a book by itโs cover. Gratuity was included in bill for 2 people.

We are East Coasters who have 3 adult children in LA/Santa Monica. Capo has been on our list of restaurants to try for a couple of years. We finally got a reservation this past August for 6 people. Unfortunately my wife was taken ill very suddenly the afternoon of our reservation and we spent the day and night in Cedars Sinai. She was treated and we were discharged well after the reservation. I called the restaurant as well as texted them to let them know about our predicament but never heard back from them. Needless to say I was surprised when I received a $150 charge to my cc for no show. I get the idea that you have $25pp to avoid people taking advantage of reservations systems I guess but that clearly wasn't the case here as we were in a genuine emergency situation. Needless to say I have tried on several occasions over the past months to speak with them and I have emailed them to see if they would reconsider or give us a credit towards rebooking (which we had wanted to do) and they have NEVER called or responded to any of my emails or voicemails. Thats crazy and totally unprofessional. There are too many great restaurants run by great people to subject yourself to this kind of behavior... Go elsewhere! ANYWHERE
Be the first to ReplyExpensive as **** but its great food and atmosphere
I enjoyed a meal here with my husband and son; it was a true culinary experience. Our waiter was a joy, he would be worth coming back again for. The food? My goodness - all of it was outstanding. I had risotto, something I NEVER eat, and I just wanted to pick up the plate and lick it. It was perfect. The steaks were excellent, the vegetables, perfect. Two out of three desserts were outstanding - I did not love mine but honestly its because I was talked into it by my dinner companions. I do not like rhubarb, I should have known haha. The portion sizes were pretty large, i must say. I do believe we could have ordered less for sure. Capo is also a hotspot for celebs, which can be fun. Also, bring all your wallets because you will need them darling.

Capo is wonderful. The service is over the top, the food even better. Certainly not inexpensive but if you look at the numbers it really isn't much more than a few dollars more per item than any normally pricier restaurants. The Rooster in Santa Monica is their sister restaurant which is also great and a little less $s.
Be the first to ReplyA popular top end restaurant
A popular top end restaurant that had a great menu. The New York strip was sensational. The tables are a bit close together so chairs clash a bit.
Be the first to ReplySelected this restaurant for
Selected this restaurant for a big work celebration and just say at best it was average!
For appetizers we ordered a variety of dishes: Octopus, Caesar Salad, gnocchi with truffles, stuffed ravioli with black truffles and they were all good. Of the group I would say the Octopus was the best! It was tender and had excellent flavor.
For the main course we ordered: Kansas City Bone-In NY Strip (3), Lamb Shank, Cacio Peppe Pasta and a Vegetarian fish. The pasta was good, a bit dry compared to other fine Italian restaurants, the Bone-In was too fatty and NOT worth it.
3 bottles of wine and a few โspecial desertsโ and it was $1,500 and not worth it.
Final piece of advice to management: DONT PLAY SOUTHERN CLASSIC ROCK!!!
Delicious
Small place, but really cozy. Service is great. Wine list is very extended with many options. Better to make a reservation before, is usually crowded. Being there several times already, and looking forward to go again this December during my trip to LA. Clam spaghetti is my favorite!
