Food was delicious! The menu is small but everything was amazing. We probably didn't have the best first experience. The service was very slow and at one point we had to order and collect our own drinks from the barI'm sure they had a desert menu but we didn't get to see it :( The food was very good and the restaurant decor was brilliant!

Delicious! Stopping through London on my travels and my friend and I found this tapas place. Atmosphere was nice and servers were so friendly. We had the patatas braves, calamari and squid with jalapeño, fried Camembert, tomato salad and chorizos. All delicious and would love to try more if I could !!!

Just one sentences, amazing food and good win ! When I'm back in Hammersmith, I will visit this place for sure !
Be the first to ReplyThis place was PACKED.
Which is usually a sign of a good place to eat. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a glass of wine. I ordered 3 of the tapas; the sirloin, the prawns and the chorizo. All were really good. With Christian's good conversation and good food, I will be back.

My FAVORITE restaurant in London and just so happens to be just below the most incredible Lumi Yoga, where I come to teach twice a year. The tapas is simply to die... my go-to's are Gambas Pil Pil (sautéed prawns) Setas Salteadas (oyster mushrooms) and Tataki Atun (tuna & green tabiko roe) with a glass of Paso Paso temperanillo. The atmosphere is perfect - intimate and unique and the staff is always helpful and very friendly. I usually eat here multiple times when I'm in town! Bravo Toro Gordo!!

Toro Gordo is a Spanish tapas restaurant with an Asian twist, which becomes obvious when you sample the food and drink available. The slight variations of the traditional tapas dishes such as spices and oils used certainly compliment the different tastes and offer an alternative to traditional tapas for those a bit more adventurous or wanting something a bit different. To drink there are the usual choices of spanish beers as well as a full bar and the restaurants many wines and house cocktails. A few Japanese Mojitos go down too easily with the many dishes you'll be getting through. The Pincho Morunos, aka pinchitos, are Spanish pork skewers which come from Southern Spain that are a particular favourite of mine. The restaurant is very stylishly decorated and in the evening is low lit for a relaxed and romantic atmosphere. Perfect for a date venue! Service is excellent as the staff are very attentive and are happy to make recommendations if you're not sure about the menu. It can be pricey but seems reasonable for the high standard of everything involved. This fantastic tapas restaurant is appropriately named The Fat Bull as that is exactly how you feel when leaving here after all the great food on offer!
Be the first to ReplyWe went for an impromptu lunch and had a great experience.
Food was overall solid, but a few had some twists. Prawns in garlic and chilli oil was very good, but spicier than your average version (in a good way). Potatoes came out also more flavourful than your average version. Sliced octopus came on a bed of guacamole rather than potatoes which was an interesting interpretation. Duck breast was good, but I felt could have been served in bigger portions. Service was very good and prompt. Granted, it was not very crowded when we went but nonetheless, we appreciated the servers' attention and willingness to help. Lastly, ambience was good. More upscale than what you'd expect in the vicinity and good for dates or occasions.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is just trying too hard and not quite hitting
This place is just trying too hard and not quite hitting the nail on the head. On entering it has a cool low lighting Japanese style vibe, with wood lanterns and plants - actually quite a romantic little place I thought - then I noticed the Manga art which I thought "ok that just doesn't really work with the rest of the vibe - and am I not in a Spanish tapas restaurant here?" Then on looking at the menu I realised that actually they are trying to do this Spanish/Japanese fusion type thing - they have some traditional looking things on the menu as well as sashimi dishes "hmmm... Ok". So we make our order - keeping to the more traditional Spanish looking dishes as that's why we've come here... Our croquettes arrived first, "good start" I thought - crispy on the outside creamy on the inside. Then the octopus arrived and we were quite disappointed it was a cold dish, served on guacamole with sweet potato crisps I believe they were - not at all traditional Spanish - but interesting combination non the less... Then it pretty much went downhill from there, the scallops, though cooked very well, lacked flavour and didn't taste particularly fresh and the other dishes whilst inventive with presentation and flavour, just didn't really work for me - especially the pil pil garlic prawns in white wine - which tasted more like prawns dipped in chorizo sauce, bizarrely enough. The thing that threw me the most about this place were the toilets - all covered in manga art with a wooden box of tissues from "hogwarts school of wizardry" - it just didn't seem to fit with the romantic candle lit restaurant vibe at all?!Overall whilst I had a decent enough meal - I don't think I'll be rushing here anytime soon. I think they're experimental Spanish/Japanese Tapas fusion doesn't quite work - but I appreciate that they're trying really hard!
Be the first to ReplyTapas the way it should be.
Pick a dish, and be delighted. Look, even the salad is a taste delight here - no joke. The staff are attentive and happy to let you keep the menu for order as you are done tapas. Atmosphere is buzzy without being loud, and the lights are low and with candles as a good date spot should be, he'll as a good low key relax spot should be.
Be the first to ReplyWas my husband's birthday evening.
.. So we decided to go Tapas after slicing out a bit of the cheesecake I baked for him :-) With subtle lighting and a rustic look, Toro Gordo welcomed us.. Cute little booth did the waiter arrange for us. The ambience was very nice. We started with our cocktails for the evening. I went gaga after tasting the Malaga Breeze.. Thanks to the cardamom flavoring the cocktail to its best.. My husband chose a classic tequila based Toro Bravo. Being vegetarians, the menu attracted us quite a bit. We chose the Andalusian Rolls and the Tosta de Queso Cabra. For the sides, we chose the Patatas Panaderas. Omg I can't stop loving those slow cooked potatoes that can simply melt in your mouth. Overall a tasteful experience. A bit pricey, no doubts but worth a visit.. Especially on a special occasion.
