Not friendly to people with Service Animals
I had a very unpleasant experience today at Carbon. I had ordered food and coffee for myself and my friend. We were planning to make it a working breakfast. I had my service dog with me, lying down on the floor. He wasn't barking, jumping, or annoying anyone. He's a trained service animal. One of the employees, who I believe was the manager, confronted me about my dog. He was wearing a long sleeves shirt and jeans. He was extremely rude and disrespectful.
He told me (in a loud tone of voice) that dogs are not allowed in the back area. I told him that he was a service dog. That wasn't enough for him. He then asked me what does he do. Sure, no problem - I told him what function the dog does for me. It wasn't enough for him. He then continued to ask more specific questions about the dog and my condition. He was very loud; everyone was staring at me. I felt that he was putting me on the spot, and it felt very anxiety-inducing. I even had to say what condition I had because he wouldn't stop asking.
According to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) --> What questions can a covered entity's employees ask to determine if a dog is a service animal? A: In situations where it is not obvious that the dog is a service animal, staff may ask only two specific questions: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Staff are not allowed to request any documentation for the dog, require that the dog demonstrate its task, or inquire about the nature of the person's disability.
Clearly, he violated this rule. He's asking questions that are outside of what can be asked and putting my medical condition/privacy exposed to the public. Additionally, question four of ADA says:
If someone's dog calms them when having an anxiety attack, does this qualify it as a service animal? A: It depends. The ADA makes a distinction between psychiatric service animals and emotional support animals. If the dog has been trained to sense that an anxiety attack is about to happen and take a specific action to help avoid the attack or lessen its impact, that would qualify as a service animal. However, if the dog's mere presence provides comfort, that would not be considered a service animal under the ADA.
I told him that my dog is a psychiatric service animal, which he then said that he didn't qualify as a service animal. He just kept going.
Honestly, it made me feel uncomfortable because of the way he was talking to me and making put my medical conditions out in public.
We left - and honestly, it ruined my morning, and I had lost my appetite. I will not be coming back. Hopefully, this review will help other people with Service Animals and hope they choose to go somewhere else where they're not going to be disrespected. I told one of the staff what had happened. I left, and no one apologized. I will not be coming back.
Here is the PDF for reference in case Carbon wants to include this as part of their training. Here is the link.

Should be better
Sat on the patio for brunch. The skillet was good. They were out of a few things and the hostess didnโt really want to be there. Good place is it better than other places in the area? No
Will I Go Back? Maybe maybe not
Great Vibe-
At first, I walked by this establishment and didnโt think much of it. It was a dispensary in donut shop but I also saw alcohol in the window and there were a few people sitting at the bar. The music piped outside was upbeat and dancy so I went in. Bartender very friendly staff extremely nice, I ended up ordering a โRocket-man chicken sandwichโ and the Wu-Tang tots came highly recommended. Get them loaded!! The chicken sandwich was far better than expected, with Korean ketchup and a little bit of soy give it a nice zing.

We stop by while walking through the area. They offer nice selection of great tasting donuts, plus have a nice list of cocktails.

We stopped here on our way from dinner and we really enjoyed it. The bartender was super cool and made us delicious cocktails. The interior was super cozy and they have extravagant, comfy seats that we loved. On the top of that, they gave us a plate of free and tasty donuts.
Awesome place! We will definitely be back.
Fun cafe/bar!
Super fun coffee house/bar we stumbled across killing time before our bike riding tour a couple weeks ago. Outside seating available and we spotted a few fur babies out hanging outside with moms and dads. :) The inside is spectacular bar chairs made what looks like out of hubcaps. The bathrooms are super clean. The staff is very efficient and the coffee is spectacular. Once inside there is a doorway to your left leading to gourmet donuts. Does it get any better? Not a huge fan of street parking never was - this is not a ding against carbon cafe just a call out to be mindful if you choose to visit. There is a close parking garage as well. Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyCool space with good food
Back when I started coming to this place 30 years ago, it was called Paris on the Platte, and it was an old coffeehouse/hipster hangout even then. Now, it is an old/new coffee house with an urban hipster bent, lots of varied spaces and levels and a few patios even, not on a day like I was there when it was snowing alot.
Even then the place probably had 100 people hanging out, working, noshing, meeting friends and/or clients and also even getting a coffee or tea or any of their varied menu items. In short, a cool setting that many Denverites have gladly discovered and patronize.
Food is good and interesting too, lots of dessert treats as you order your coffee/tea also.
Service was very friendly with a young able staff that surely enjoys working there.
Normally, I wouldn't comment about this, but even the bathrooms were hip, unisex, with candles burning and graffiti all over the bathroom walls, perhaps purposely. A nice break too.
I will be back, parking is metered in that block with some parking behind the place also.

Stopped in twice. Great local coffee shop. The cold brew is so smooth. The chai options are good. And the food is great. Way better option than your typical chains. Service is great too. Trendy but unintimidating. Full bar. Yum pastry selection.

I'm a super fan of Carbon. They made a few changes to the menu. Today I ordered the avocado toast with mushrooms and caramelized onions. Terrific! (It comes with a sunny egg but you can request egg on the side, any style. I chose scrambled. Yum!
Thanks guys!
