Came here with a group of girlfriends and was not disappointed. We started with mussels and calamari and they were TO DIE FOR! I got sea bass with asparagus for my meal and it was delicious. While the food was outstanding, the true star was our bartender. Jason was so sweet and so kind to us. We will be back!

If you crave excellence in service and melt-in-your-mouth memories, Char is the place for you. This contemporary steakhouse gives red carpet new meaning. We were given a glass of complimentary champagne to start out our evening and followed up with the tastiest glass of moscato while waiting for appetizers. The calamari must'nt be missed, not chewy, perfectly fried...delicious! A giant ground steak meatball was up next. Seriously! A glass of red and a meatball alone would have been perfection. And then came the rolls. Splendid. So light and airy. Half of our table ventured into land and sea while the other half chose the petite medallions. And this is where we meet melt-in-your mouth. The steaks are grilled to perfection and made for a very satisfied table. While Char isn't a monthly date-night experience, it's is a definite must try and worth saving for a very special evening.

Be the first to ReplySuch a wonderful dining experience.
Our waiter couldn't have been more kind and helpful and the food was second to none in my opinion.
Be the first to ReplyRestaurant was nice and decorated nicely for the holidays.
It's located in a strip so we had no problems finding a parking spot in the lot. Received complimentary champagne for a birthday. Started off with shrimp/lobster crab cakes, bacon wrapped dates, and meatballs. All were good and would order again. Caesar salad was good but had to take my anchovy off. French onion soup was so so. The cheese on top was so hard and could barely eat it. Main Entree: Filet was okay. Needed more flavor and didn't melt in mouth. Kansas City strip was good Delmonico had too much fat on it and I love fat thats why I ordered it. Really hard to find any good pieces of meat on it. I would probably not order a steak here if I returned. Our waiter was fine.
Be the first to ReplyNormally me and my significant other are huge fans of Char.
Unfortunately, we went about a month ago for date night and were greeted with nothing but disappointment. It was not terribly busy, yet our food took longer than usual to come out. My significant other ordered the sea bass took the first bite and it was ice cold. Myself ordering my go to with the delmonico ribeye, ordered medium rare and it came out gray, cold and flavorless. We expressed our total dissatisfaction with our waiter, although not his fault. He did ask if we wanted anything remade but at that point we had already been there for about an hour and were just ready to go. We sadly don't know if we will be back.
Be the first to ReplyOverall excellent experience.
The server was awesome and had great suggestions. The steak and oysters were great. We liked the mushrooms. The potatoes were okay. We went for a mommy/son date. It was my son's first time at a nice steakhouse. They did a great job making it a special experience while we were in town. Very nice atmosphere with candlelit tables. We would definitely come again if we were in town.

What should have been a great experience was ruined by the Events Coordinator at Char. My husband had been diligent in communicating with the Events Coordinator as we were coming from out of town and could not meet in person. We made her aware that we needed several vegetarian meals and that the time we would be arriving would be about an hour range. She assured us that this was no issue and they'd be ready for us. Imagine our surprise when we arrived for our rehearsal dinner and the host wasn't even aware we were coming. They finally let us upstairs to find that none of the decor we had dropped off was setup. The last straw was when it took over an hour for us to get food - and the "vegetarian dish" that was supposed to be stuff mushrooms turned out to be mac and cheese..... The only reason they get 2 stars is because of the great bartenders who were extremely apologetic for their restaurant's shortcomings.
Be the first to ReplyOur first time in the restaurant.
Food was outstanding. Great ambience. Service was great. Disappointing that our Anniversary was NOT acknowledged, nothing special done for us like other restaurants have done over the years AND then our server asked us if we wanted 1 or 2 checks!!! We are a same sex couple, but an obvious couple throughout the evening. We mentioned it in the reservation and asked for a special table because of this. What's up with that????

I generally don't leave reviews, but I will go out of my way to to vouch for this restaurant. The atmosphere was so pleasant, the service (especially our server, Michael) was IMMACULATE, and the food was the best food I have ever tasted in my life. Definitely recommend the Fresh Calamari, and A5 Wagyu, & even the Upper Choice Ribeye. A+++

This is a very pretty restaurant with good service but the food was subpar. I had the salmon and it was salted to the moon. The asparagus was also over cooked. The people I was with got the calamari and it was extremely salty as well. I think only one adult didn't complain about their entree and it was the tuna. The table said that the Mac and cheese was good and I didn't mine the risotto I got but for spending $81 after tip I was very dissatisfied and will probably not be back.

We went there a year ago and the food and service was excellent. However, we went there for our anniversary last night and it was one of the worse dining experiences I have had in my life. The waiter never filled our water, we waited 25 minutes for our starters, we waited 50 minutes for our entrees only to be told that the chef forgot to prepare them. Then 20 minutes later we were given cold and raw wavy meatballs with no silverware or plates as a peace offering. 20 more minutes later we got our food. My husband's aged ribeye was a pre frozen tough KC strip, the vegetables were cold and the manager never came to our table when we askEd. We were offered free dessert from our waiter when we told him we could not have any carbs or sugar, so the waiter did take off my husbands meal from our bill. This was how we got to spend our 44th wedding anniversary, by being disrespected by this establishment. My husband and I have been in customer service all or lives and never been treated so poorly. Here's the kicker, We we're the first customers for the evening and no other customers sat down after us for over 30 minutes. We will never go back or recommend tjisace.
Be the first to ReplyEhhService wasn't great.
Sat at the bar. Had to ask for a menu, had to ask to order and was barely spoken to the entire time. When I say I had to ask for a menu, I mean I sat down she got me my drink, then subsequently disappeared. I waited ten minutes before she came close enough where I could holler at her for a menu. It just wasn't a great time. Steak was perfect but lobster Mac was..... gluey? It looked super scrumptious but it was sticky instead of creamy. Idk I'll probably go back though.

Chewy lobster and I sent my entire salmon meal back. Thanks for comping the salmon.(Mussel appetizer was decent)
Be the first to ReplyThis is hands down the best restaurant in springfield.
I lived in Chicago for the first 30 years of my life and I really miss the great restaurants there. BUT THANK GOD FOR CHAR! This is the place for fine dining!

This place is so good, it might be better than the sister company Flame which is always amazing!!!! But super close to our hotel and not very crowded. A must try for real steak lovers! Not to mention the char salad was so good! And very nice staff.

First time but not the last! What an incredible restaurant- but more so our waiter made it memorable. Picking up kids from camp in Branson, came in night before and this will for sure become our norm. Our waiter, Michael, went out of his way to make sure it was a great experience. After a 4+ hour drive, was just looking for a decent dinner and maybe a glass of wine- was WAY impressed by and unexpected night to remember!! I'll be sure to book ahead (and ask for Michael!) next time as no way we'll be able to make last minute reservation if they keep up this excellent service and experience!!

While I'm not expecting Smith & Wollensky in Springfield, at $250 for two, I certainly would hope for more. Made a reservation via OpenTable; they didn't have us down. Had to wait 20 mins. in the bar, offered us one round of free drinks. I don't drink, but ok. We both ordered the special, which we were excited to see was bone-in filet, something we've greatly enjoyed at higher-end steak houses. Meat was gristly and fatty. The oysters we ordered had about a dime's worth of meat in them, and weren't even fully shucked. I guess it's hard to shuck an oyster with no meat in it. End of meal, waiter asked why I'd not finished my vegetable side. I told him they weren't fully cooked; he replied "Sorry to hear that." and took my plate. Normally you'd think he'd offer to take it off the bill? I waited a few days, called, and asked for a manager. I hate to complain about restaurants, but for that price, it was just a bit much overall. The girl who answered wouldn't connect me to a manager, rather made an excuse and had me leave a message. I was polite and brief. I never received a call back, so I'm unfortunately leaving this overlong review.
Be the first to ReplyI went there and was seated immediately.
I waited a long time for the waitress to show up--approximately 15 minutes. I ordered the bone in ribeye. It was somewhat pricy. I felt it was over spiced with too much spice. The salad was excellent with anchovy paste. The steak was a little smaller than was justified by the high price. The service was slow. The salad was good. The general atmosphere was a little "pee elegant."

I recently visited this restaurant with a friend and it was a great experience. We were seated upstairs overlooking the lower level. Wish the table was bigger but the view was nice. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The oysters were very good. Didn't care for the bread. It came out doughy and tasted like potato. The steak had great flavor and the mashed potatoes were perfect.I would recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyWe went to Char for the first time on January 29th.
We are new in the area and are trying out local restaurants. Based the reviews from others we expected a high-end steakhouse experience but unfortunately this did not happen. I made a reservation and said that this was a birthday celebration. It turned out not to be a dinner worth a celebratory event. We came to the restaurant and were promptly seated since it was a early reservation. As we approached a nicely set table, I noticed that it was very near the doors to the kitchen and in fact I could see directly into the kitchen from my seat. What I could see of it did not look clean and organized. Throughout the dinner I saw many a near collision between servers entering and exiting the kitchen since there was a large service bar impeding their progress. We noticed that there seemed to be a dress code for the servers but glaringly one female server was not following it since she wore a jeans jacket over her black outfit. I noticed a small champagne style glass included in the place settings at each table and wondered why they were there. I soon found out why as we were approached by a waiter offering each of us an initial glass of effervescent wine. Since I was the only one at my table drinking alcohol at the time, I accepted the small taste. It was a low end sparkling wine to my palate and the others at the table were not even offered the option of a sparkling grape juice. The dinner proceeded from there and we ordered appetizers and an entrée each. We waited quite a while (slow service) and the waiter came out with 3 of the 4 appetizers we had ordered. After being informed that an appetizer was missing he assured us that it would be forthcoming - it never came. We later received our entrees, 3 steaks and a fish entrée. The steaks were of average quality but the fish was good. Two of the steaks were not cooked to proper conditions and we sent one of them back to be redone. I ordered a glass of pinot noir wine to enjoy with my steak. When it came it tasted off because not only was it from a bottle that had been obviously opened the previous day, it was served very chilled (about 45degrees.) I sent that one back and got another glass from a newly opened bottle but it was also served chilled. Since chilling to that extent severely effects the nose of a red wine and thus effects it's taste in a negative fashion, I asked about serving cold wine and got the response that all wines were stored "in a refrigerator." I was astonished that this wine was so improperly served and this made me wonder about how that practice would effect the quality of other wines with higher prices on the wine list. After dinner, we ordered two desserts, a "chocolate souffle" cake and a crème brulee in a chocolate shell bowl. They came and finally the missing appetizer showed up with them. The "souffle" was the consistency of a dense brownie and the chocolate shell bowl was so thick it was difficult to crack and eat. During our dinner we observed another couple celebrating an event and, as part of the restaurant's efforts to support this, they received the biggest sparkler firework I had ever seen in a close indoor setting. The firework spit sparks that traveled about a foot for about fifteen seconds. Does the fire department know about this dangerous practice?Needless to say, based on the average quality of the food for the price charged, the slow inept service, and the general neglect of the safety of staff and patrons, we do not recommend this eatery. If you must go, overlook the details and get overcharged for a dining experience that should be so much better if anyone cared.
