Sublime Steak
Excellent steakhouse. Phenomenal cuts, cooked perfectly. Great to see good produce respected and not smothered in unnecessary rubbish.Big shout out to Joe the waiter that makes the difference

Very enjoyable. Started out with a lump crab cake which was very moist and flavorful. For main dishes my wife chose the petite filet and I had the Delmonico ribeye. Everything is a la carte so for sides we shared roasted asparagus and mushroom caps. Everything was cooked just as we requested and tasted amazing. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. Overall a memorable dinner

Stopped in for dinner while visiting the area. Ribeye was very good with a side of sautéed mushrooms. Also had the chop salad and crème brûlée for dessert. Only reason not five star is the atmosphere. It’s loud and tables are very close together. No privacy. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Would visit again.

First shocker was complimentary valet parking and car pick up with a simple text. Give them your phone number and text them back ten minutes or less when you need car and it will be ready. We started with oyster shooters and crab meat stuffed mushrooms. Very good. On to steaks. See the online menu, I had the new yours strip (wet) and gf has Delmonico steak. Both cooked perfectly. With a side of broccoli to top off the meal. Delicious. Dessert was bourbon bread pudding but the after dinner desserts and drinks is extensive. Waitstaff was amazing. Attentive in every detail from reading the specials to making sure we were satisfied. The only and I mean only downside was the yellow jackets. I killed three as they were buzzing around our outside table. Not sure if there was a nest in one of the open fire pits or what. Luckily I am a good shot with the rolled napkin. Great music. Great lighting. Great decor outside and inside from what we could see. Pricey but food is so good it was worth it. Would have been 5 stars if not for yellow jackets buzzing our food and us.

Food was awful service was terrible. Don’t get the bald guy. Terrible. For 250$ better food and service at a dinner. For 250$ folks get it right !!!!!!!!!

The two times I've eaten here has been bad! Food was cold, and didn't taste good. Chicken tenders were burnt and the meatloaf was awful!!!! Not worth the price!

Over the past few years I kept whisking by this restaurant and finally took the plunge. It was more “upscale” than expected. (It doesn’t look like it from the outside - in fact, it looks a lot like its sister restaurant Char Burger also on 202, but to the south.) The Trip Advisor rating was very good and I love a good steak - so, in I went. The interior is dimly lit and cozy. (I could have lived without the music they piped in.)
The staff was very friendly and attentive. As good as it gets - particularly the waitress.
The food itself was very well prepared. My companion’s Delmonico steak wasn’t stellar. (Lots of fat and gristle.) My filet mignon was perfect. My lobster tail, likewise.
Overall, I was very happy with Char’s but the prices are a little high - especially for the location. There’s a lot of corporate traffic so that’s probably not a problem if you’re getting reimbursed… if
you’re just a civilian looking for a good meal, you might want to
look elsewhere.
I’m going to try the burger place next!
Quality and attention to detail
Great appetizers and the best martinis this side of the pond. Seriously, you want a good steak? A martini prepared right? appetizers that don’t look or taste like they came out of Costco freezer? Go to Char.
It’s simple quality and attention to details

We have been to this Char many times and their sister location in Red Bamk several times as well. The service is always first class as it was once again on two recent visits.
However, there were several problems with the food. While they are primarily a steak house, they used to have great seafood options. Unfortunately, not anymore. The Tuna Stir Fry with Rice was dry and boring. My friend's special Halibut was also very disappointing.
I learned my lesson and, on my most recent visit, I ordered the Crab Cake appetizer which was delicious (see photo). I also had the nighty special, Caprese Salad which was excellent. The skinny fries were crispy and delish!
My wife and her friend ordered a petite Filet Mignon which both of them said was too rare. They should have returned it but didn't because they were hungry and didn't want to wait.
I would also say that the tables seemed to be too close together and, in general, the restaurant was not in compliance with COVID guidelines.
Rare 5 given by me...
Not sure how this is rated 3.5 stars because I rarely give 5 stars, but that 5 stars was exactly my experience. Awesome chic decor. The staff from the front to the bus service to the wait staff were amazing, classy, and professional. The drinks and food were absolutely amazing.

From the initial phone call to reserve the dinner up to the day of the staff at Char in Raritan where just phenomenal. It was my fiancé’s 36th birthday dinner and our first time out to eat in the Bridgewater area since COVID. From our waiter Phil who was so well versed in the menu and pairings of wine with our steak to the manger Mateo who helped cut and serve our own cake for . It really was an outstanding experience that we won’t soon forget. Char will most definitely be our new place for a fine steak dinner.

This just didn't do it for me. It was just fair. The drinks were okay. If it is not on their list of drinks that is brought to the table then they might not know how to make it. If you are impressed by high prices then you will be impressed. I don't mind paying the price if the food and experience are good. My filet was good, no complaints. The presentation is a petit filet on a big round white plate and it appears that everything comes with a cooked bulb of garlic, that is it. You have to order sides to accompany your dinner. So we did, mashed potatoes, sautéed spinach and the mac and cheese. They were fine. I ordered a house salad with my meal and that was just fine. One of the nicest things that we had was the house bread, which they give you one piece served to you out of a basket.
Dessert was ordered and the table ordered bread pudding, and several others. The bourbon bread pudding with walnuts was plated with vanilla ice cream. It was good but what would have made it great was a bourbon caramel sauce.
I ordered a cocktail at dessert and the glass was dirty to the touch and then I held it up and it was really dirty.
It really wasn't an experience. It was just nice. This is not what I expected for the area that I was in.

First they as others have mentioned illegally violate all COVID rules and jam in all patrons very close no masks. They have the nerve to charge 31.95 for a lobster Mac and cheese made with crab stick, no lobster. Way overpriced and the management has a serious attitude problem. Not nice people and do not know how to deal with people.

I've been to Char probably a dozen times. We sat outside twice during the summer and fall, and felt that their setup was excellent. We felt safe, were suitably distanced, and food was good as always (if a little expensive for NJ).
We went back Saturday night to sit indoors. We've sat indoors exactly four times over the past month, as my wife and I are vaccinated and wanted to get back to some reality. The other restaurants, which I will review separately, we great in terms of adhering to the guidelines. NOT CHAR.
It was at, or even above, capacity. I complained to the hostess, and she said that they were approved for a certain number and that this was 30% or so. Umm...no. We were back to back with two other full tables, and every room was filled. The table adjacent to us was actually taking pictures to send to authorities.
Food was good, service was good. But management is actively thumbing their nose at the law. We won't be supporting them any longer. I understand the impact the pandemic has had on small businesses and restaurants, but it's not a free pass to contribute to getting people sick.
Complete violation of Covid rules
We've been to Char dozens of times. The food, atmostphere, and service are generally great. We had not eaten indoors in close to a year. Vaccinated, we decided to venture to Char for our first night out. WHAT A MISTAKE! It started when we pulled in and encountered a full parking lot, having to wait several minutes to park. Hmm.... We then entered the restaurant....and it was 100% full. NO separation between tables, most sitting back to back about 1-2 feet from the nearest adjacent table. They have not removed or moved any tables. They were completely booked on a Friday night. Not one open table in a full restaurant. We complained to our server and one of the busboys. The server shrugged his shoulders and said "this isn't even a bad night....I just work here." We will never go there again. They are breaking every single Covid rule, creating an unsafe environment for their workers and their customers. Cannot believe they haven't been reported multiiple times. If they aren't shut down in the next few weeks....something is fishy.
