Charley's Steak House Tampa Reviews from The Last Year
We enjoyed a group dinner at Charley's with superb service!
We enjoyed a group dinner at Charley's with superb service! Everything was incredible in taste, and the portion sizes were huge. The steaks truly lived up to the hype. The private room we had was in the wine cellar which was cozy and perfect for our group. I would definitely recommend for a fancy evening out!
I just love the building and decor, had to visit before
I just love the building and decor, had to visit before they tear it down and move next year. The service is outstanding--two servers that are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, and not stuffy. The steak tartare was amazing. The steaks were tender and delicious even though they were just a hair past what we ordered. The roasted cauliflower side was good but didn't quite live up to the hype--next time will get a different side. We definitely enjoyed our dinner & had a fun date night!
Over the top experience.
As a Tampa native I had not been back to this restaurant for several years. There was not a single criticism I could offer! Food, service, and overall experience were beyond compare. Delila and Rich were amazing. Would come back again so soon!
Missing the mark
We came here for a business dinner on a Monday evening. I've been here before and it always seemed decent but not amazing. This time, it was much of the same. They have nice bar area and we had some drinks before our 6 PM reservation. Once seated we ordered some appetizers and a couple of bottles. The wine list is decent, but some of the prices were not great. Oysters were EXCELLENT and the calamari was above average. We all had salads and they were very average, and I was actually a little disappointed with mine. Most of us had steaks, I had the filet with tiger shrimp. Mine was cooked perfectly and the shrimp were OUTSTANDING. Unfortunately, we had to send two steaks back because they were overcooked! The staff handled this quickly. Sides were augratin potatoes, lobster mac, and asparagus. We also ordered two more bottles during dinner. Overall the food is was good but not amazing. I felt like the streak quality has fallen with them lately. Service was very attentive and it's a nice place to grab a meal, but I feel like they are a step behind the nearby Flemings & Capital Grille.
Made reservations and seated upon arrival.
Mentioned we were celebrating but nothing came of it so must have been small talk. Attentive to food allergies which was super comforting. Halibut very nice however the 8 oz filet mignon was not flavorful and not tasty at all. For a steakhouse with this reputation, it's a shame. We almost sent back and in hindsight, we should have for the price. Lesson learned. If you want to send a lot of money for an okay meal, this is your place.
We've lived in Tampa for almost 20 years, finally decided
We've lived in Tampa for almost 20 years, finally decided to visit Charley's. We're no strangers to fine dining. I'd rate Charley's higher than Bern's, Malio's, Ruths Chris. Michael, our server, was most accommodating.
Extremely tough steak.
knife would barely cut through meat. My wife had the New York strip and I had the Angus Ribeye... management did allow us to send them back and we opted for fish. I cannot recommend this restaurant. We have had better steak at Longhorn and Texas Roadhouse for less than half the price
This Tampa steakhouse, founded by one of the Red Lobster
This Tampa steakhouse, founded by one of the Red Lobster pioneers, impresses with its wide selection of premium steaks and fresh seafood. The bison ribeye was exceptional, offering a unique and delicious experience. The charred cauliflower was also standout, adding a surreal twist to the meal. A must-visit for steak and seafood enthusiasts seeking quality and innovation.
Service was very good, steaks excellent Over all good
Service was very good, steaks excellent Over all good experience The building has a quaint charm about it.
Freakin' delicious, perhaps better than Berns.
The side options are all 10/10. Service is fantastic. I brought my partner her to celebrate his promotion, and we had the best time.
Our steaks were great and the service was attentive but I
Our steaks were great and the service was attentive but I don't think the meal was worth the cost. My spouse said the men's bathrooms were gross- both in disrepair and not clean. The women's room had areas in poor repair. The rest may sound petty, but it just left me feeling overall underwhelmed on a very expensive meal. I absolutely hate when lettuce isn't cut into reasonably manageable pieces and the Caesar salad is served with whole romaine leaves. Dessert featured Plant City strawberry cake. Local is great but strawberry season ended months ago and when I commented that they must freeze a ton of strawberries (to get through the hot season) I was told they don't, it's all delivered fresh daily. Maybe there's a farm that figured out how to grow all year but idk. The affogato included frangelico as one of the ingredients on the menu. On our bill there was $2 up charge for the frangelico. I didn't dispute it bc what's $2 in the scheme of the actual bill but it rubbed me the wrong way. They are moving soon, so the bathroom condition may improve. Not sure I'll go find out though.
A WONDERFUL dining experience!! A MUST in Tampa!
This was our first time at Charley’s! Let me first start by saying WOW! We started with the crab appetizer and the baby wedge. Then we ordered steak and asparagus and finished with the INCREDIBLE butter cake!! We were COMPLETELY pleased with everything! Our waiter, “Adonis” was amazing! The manager “Dee” checked on us several times, (our wedge salad was drowning in salad dressing but he made it right) Customer service at its finest, and it’s worth EVERY penny! Can’t wait to go again!!
Friend's Birthday Celebration
The Pork Chops and Lamb that our friends ordered seemed to be a good value for the money. I ordered $120 Lobster Tail and it was disappointing in that they cut it up into bite sized pieces. Had I known I would have asked for it not to be cut up other than removed from shell. Felt it could have been cooked a little less as it was tough. The Bison Rib Eye my husband ordered was good although it came out lukewarm. We enjoyed the Lobster Mashed Potatoes but the Lobster Mac & Cheese our friends ordered was unremarkable. Baked Cauliflower was good but for $23 I probably would not order it again. It was my friend's birthday. It is nice that Charley's presented her with complimentary Meatball Appetizer and Vanilla Ice Cream. Our bill for 2 was $327.67 after Tip.Of the $327.67 only $24 was Alcohol & we drank regular water. IMHO restaurant prices have gotten outrageous. We always liked to fine dine on regular basis but now we rather spend our money on cruising & travel, only fine dining for special occasions. We specifically asked for our server by name as he had been great in the past. He is very personable. However, after Covid the attention from wait staff is not there. I do not want to draw attention to him so I purposefully have not mentioned his name. He was very talkative when we arrived at 6 pm but as the restaurant filled by the time our food arrived he was barely visible and his assistant did not appear that interested once I did not order a second half bottle of wine to the point that our water glasses remained empty for over a half hour until we could get their attention to ask for more water. We did not care for the Iceberg Lettuce salad included with meal. My friend & I did mention it to the server and we were able to get Romaine Lettuce.
Anniversary Treat
Landed a last-minute reservation at 5:00 for two. Seated immediately. Great atmosphere. Immediate, very helpful, friendly service. Ordered drinks and appetizers, escargot, and the deep diver scallops. Very generous servings, and the scallops were huge and great. Ordered the bone-in ribeye, and the 1974 fried shrimp. Steak was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The fan-tail shrimp were the size of my palm. There were eight and again, perfectly cooked and delicious. Had to try the butter cake and it didn't disappoint. This was our 48th wedding anniversary. There was a happy anniversary card signed by the staff on our table when we arrived, and a couple complimentary goodies during the meal. Excellent experience and one we will long remember.
Beginner’s Steak House, Four Hours Long
Twenty minutes before our drink order was taken. One hour before our food order was taken. The server insisted on going over the entire menu and giving a lecture on bovine anatomy, even though we had the menus for 45 minutes. The entire experience was four hours long. The meat quality was good, however, there are very few reasonably sized portions available. The side dishes were very average quality. Both of the green vegetables we ordered, asparagus & brocollini, were overcooked. At one point the staff was distracted by the sighting of a minor sports celebrity in the bar, delaying our service, further.
Best yet! Best food, best drinks, best service, just the
Best yet! Best food, best drinks, best service, just the best. Upon arrival we noticed one consistent thing and that was that every group leaving, left with a bag. Odd right? Well, once we saw our portions and tasted our food, we soon learned why they had bags. We ordered the oysters, ribeye, Mac & cheese and plenty of drinks. Forgive me as due to it looking so good, I forgot pictures. Everything was cooked to perfection and we had only one flop. The house salad was not good. Quite surprising. But, who cares about the salad when everything else is this good. I managed to grab a photo of two items. Go, enjoy!
Food was great! Service not so much.
We ordered Filet Mignon and NY Strip. They come with salad and rolls. We added the sautéed mushrooms. The serving was huge and they were delicious. The garlic mashed potatoes were not great and I don’t recommend them. For dessert we had the Butter cake but it was just ok. Lots of food and a big doggy bag. The service was horrible. If you get Bill as your server ask for another table. We were there for nearly 2 hours and had to go hunt him down a couple of times. Never got a refill on the coffee as requested. We watched the table across from us receive and eat their appetizers, meal, dessert and leave. Their table was cleaned off and reset. Another couple sat down ate their appetizers and were finishing their meals when we were finally able to pay our check and leave. We will definitely return because of the food. Not the service!
The Sweet Butter Cake is to die for at Charley's.
I love an American Steakhouse and Charley's is up there as one of the best. It is a real dining experience. The menu has all the usual steakhouse favourites and the Shrimp Cocktail being one of my personal favourites. It was a good one too although on the highly priced side at $31 for just 3 shrimp even at a fine dining steakhouse. My NY Strip was very good too as were the sides of Broccolini and Loaded Mashed Potatoes. For me the best bit was the Sweet Butter Cake Dessert though, boy it was divine!! It was a fine dining price at US$282 (before tip) for two of us with just one glass of Pinot Noir. A very nice meal though with great service, nice ambience and quality food cooked just right.
I hate to give this reputable steak house 2 stars, but it
I hate to give this reputable steak house 2 stars, but it is what it is. I'll start with the good. Our service was excellent, and what was expected. My Mojito was excellent! The Cabernet Savignon was excellent, 3 bottles of Lore. It was the best Cab I ever had. The Seafood Tower was over the top! Three tiers of oysters, Collossal shrimp, Stone crab claws, and a huge martini glass of giant lump crabmeat, all perfectly prepared and fresh. The Lobster mac and cheese was delicious, with chunks of Lobster. The sauteed mushrooms were good, but I've had better. The Creme Brulee was excellent, and twice the size I've had anywhere. The dinner rolls were hot and tasty. My partner's Porterhouse was perfectly medium rare as ordered, and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Now my issues. The Keylime pie was average. The House salad was soggy, like yesterday's salad out of the fridge. It was basically very unpleasant to eat, and all six of us didn't eat it. I ordered a 24 ounce Aged Prime Bone-in Ribeye, medium rare, which I was so looking forward to, but sad to say it was the toughest steak of ANY steak house I have ever had in my life. It was perfectly medium rare, and seasoned very well, but as delicious as it appeared, it was downright tough. It was very tough, and there is no excuse for a steak that cost $95. Need I say more?
Always a pleasure going to Charlie's.
I've had excellent service and steaks each time I've been here. It's a traditional steak house that never disappoints! Try the escargo. Also the lamb chops are to die for ( tried at Orlando location). No frills with outstanding food!
Charley's Steakhouse is an exceptional upscale dining
Charley's Steakhouse is an exceptional upscale dining experience that exceeded all expectations. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was inviting and elegant without being overwhelming, creating the perfect setting for a memorable meal. The waitstaff at Charley's is beyond pleasant--they are not only friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable and eager to ensure a wonderful dining experience. They provided us with valuable insights about the menu and checked in on us regularly, making us feel well taken care of throughout our meal. Now, let's talk about the food. The T-bone Wagyu steak we shared was nothing short of phenomenal--it was the best steak I've ever had, hands down. Along with a couple of delicious drinks and an appetizer, our meal was simply divine. Despite being quite full, our waitress surprised us with a complimentary ice cream dessert, which was a delightful end to our meal. The attention to detail and generosity truly made our experience at Charley's Steakhouse exceptional. Overall, I cannot recommend Charley's Steakhouse enough. It's a dream dining destination for steak lovers and anyone seeking a top-notch dining experience. With its impeccable service, incredible food, and comfortable yet upscale ambiance, Charley's Steakhouse easily earns a 10/10 recommendation from me.
Great service and great food.
The atmosphere at restaurant was relaxing and enjoyable. The seafood tower, Wagyu, the Bison, all added to a great night. Also, the main course doesn't have to be all that is great at Charley's. The lobster Mac does wonders as well. If you're able to load up on that you won't be disappointed. Let's not leave out the desert. The butter cake is a must have as well. Just make sure you don't eat too much before going, you'll need to have room to taste everything.
Service was excellent.
The wine and alcohol menu were very good. The side dishes, au gratin, potato and broccolini were OK. Not great.. the bacon wrapped scallops. The scallops with cooked absolutely perfectly, but the bacon was almost raw. Now for the really bad news, I got the Kansas City bone in strip steak. I was excited because I was told this was one of the better steakhouses in Florida. I can honestly say it was the second worst New York strip steak. I have eaten at a high-end restaurant. The other was a restaurant in Phoenix, there was so much Grizzle and so much non-edible fat. The knives were duller than butter knives, so you literally were trying to shred and pull the steak apart.
Came with dear friends who I am staying with in town.
It was 645pm on a Sunday. The place is large with dining rooms off in many directions and a bar that was packed. Valet parking is complimentary. Y the time we ordered every table and booth we could see was filled. Ambiance is old timey steakhouse. We got the recommended cocktails but did not like them. We were asked to pick another cocktail which we did and they were prepared well. A pair of Vespers. I noted that my first vesper was served with olives - that is not a vesper. It also was sent back. They got my drink right the third time. Service is exceptional. Our server Delilah was friendly, efficient and knowledgable. Hosts and managers appeared at the table throughout our meal. Bread was brought to the table it was unremarkable. We started with the house salad which was unexceptional but it came with a dollop of blue cheese which was nice. . Then my main was filet mignon with scallops and a side of potatoes. The meat was a perfect medium rare and was prime usda beef. Wonderful. The scallops were large and tender. My steak was flavored with a jezebel sauce that had a nice and interesting sweetness to it. Very unique for a steakhouse. The steaks on offer here are exceptionally large. We finished with fresh berries that we all shared and a couple of espressos. Cost was a bit higher than comparable steakhouses. We did not get wine. Food "a", Service "a", ambiance "b", value "b". I would return when in town. Mark.
The worst steak I've had in a long time.
Maybe ever. I don't like leaving bad reviews. But I need to be honest. I think they just haven't mastered the dry aging process. Could have been a one off batch of steaks. Sides were good and service was good.
Mixed Feelings at Charley’s Steakhouse..
Our first experience at Charley’s Steakhouse left us with mixed feelings. While we entered with high expectations, our dinner didn’t quite meet them. The calamari appetizer stole the show, impressing us the most. However, the steak, according to my husband, was disappointingly dry. My salmon dish, unexpectedly wrapped in cheese, didn’t quite hit the mark either. The Mac & Cheese side appeared to be store-bought and lacked freshness, leaving us underwhelmed. On a positive note, the complimentary dessert ice cream was a delightful end to our meal. Despite the attentive staff, the overall dining experience fell short, especially considering the hefty price tag of over $200. We had hoped for better quality and variety in the dishes served.
We went to Charley's for our fourth anniversary and it
We went to Charley's for our fourth anniversary and it quickly supplanted both Berns and even Malio's in my mind as our go to steak house spot. The ambiance was lux and sumptuous without being gaudy, and didn't have that awful discordant din that so many overly modern places tend to have. It was a packed house but still felt semi private no matter where you were sat it seems to me. Because we booked the reservation with the note that it was a celebration, we were congratulated a number of times which was very welcoming. Our waitress, Stephanie, was warm and energetic and attentive the entire time- without being pushy or overbearing. We were able to get anything we needed and also enjoy conversation and the company. My husband ordered their featured bourbon cocktail (the name escapes me at the moment) and LOVED it- said it was well worth the price tag. I elected to get a mocktail with muddled berries, fruit, lemonade and seltzer. It tasted like a regular cocktail! Delicious. The house salad comes with every steak entree and it was a smallish Spanish style salad- lightly dressed and packed full of flavor. A little milder version of the Colombia's 1905 if you know that one. As for the steaks- we did elect to do the presentation- they bring the board over and explain their process. All fresh cut and well marbled, or perfectly dry aged to enhance the flavor. Fun little thing to do just to get an idea of your options. And it convinced me to get the wagyu filet over the standard, and I'm quite glad I did. I've never tasted a more tender cut of beef in my life. Combined with the garlic butter and time I was amazed. I actually found the meat to have a very mild flavor, surprisingly! Contrasted with my husband's dry aged porterhouse which was bold and packed with the steak-y flavor you'd expect- and a little salty edge to it. I'm not usually a porterhouse girl but I might change my stance based on the two or three bites I had! Both were a perfect mid-rare. The baked potato and broccolini sides are enough to split between three or four adults quite honestly, and fresh. We liked the potato fully loaded. Dessert was the key lime pie and a complementary ice cream with candles to conclude our celebration. The key lime was tart and had coconut in the crust- a true Florida flavor. Price tag with tip was just a hair under $400. Definitely our go to steakhouse.
Great food.
Great ambiance. Great service. Attentive to detail and explained everything. Steaks were phenomenal so many options and waiter brought them out and explained them all before ordering.
Wonderful old school steakhouse
Phenomenal service and steak/seafood selection. Huge platter of steaks and seafood brought to your table before ordering and the cuts of meat and various seafood choices are explained by the waiters so you can order knowing details about your entree. Servers work in teams so there is always someone nearby. Anthony and Fish were great. Ok school steakhouse with the dark wood paneling, low lighting and Sinatra on the speakers. Pricey but well worth it. Will come back.
This place is five stars all around.
The service was fantastic. From the manager on call, Dee, making rounds to introduce himself then follow up after our meal, our waiter, Bill was super knowledgeable and friendly and very attentive. The food was delicious. Steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly, the lobster Mac and cheese was great and the drinks were phenomenal. The ambiance was very romantic and great for a date night or celebratory occasion. I highly recommend checking them out.
Stop scrolling you just found your Steakhouse!!!
Delicious food, great wine selection, service was on point and the baked cauliflower was absolutely amazing!! Highly recommend
Regular upscale visitors left disappointed.
Charleys has potential, for this price point we expect a little more of a white glove service. Waiting ~10 minutes for each round of refreshments is unacceptable. The bar staff was overwhelmed with a minimal crowd perhaps a second bar back? My aged bone-in ribeye was charred and unrendered. I do not typically write negative reviews but this event was a no return for us and our recommendations wull reflect as such. We visit upscale establishments regularly and I would recommend you folks make a reservation at Council Oak in the casino. You will find an expectation of service value. White glove, customer first. Do not let someone wait.
Charley's has forgotten their way...
Expressing my disappointment is an understatement. My family and I have been loyal patrons of Charley's since the early 2000s, and it has always been our go-to destination for special occasions. On this particular event, celebrating my father's 80th birthday, we were looking forward to the exceptional experience that Charley's had consistently provided. The evening began smoothly with appetizers, but unfortunately, things took a downturn as our server became overwhelmed. Charley's lacked a support system, and when our server struggled, the entire experience crumbled. Drink orders took an eternity, a simple request for fries for the kids turned into a 20-minute wait, and our server seemed oblivious to our requests. When the main course arrived, the standard of service and food quality, expected from a high-end establishment like Charley's, was sorely lacking. My wife's filet was significantly undercooked, despite sending it back, it returned with the same issue. My brother and I opted for the tomahawk wagyu steak, only to receive cold steaks – an unexpected disappointment at Charley's. Even dessert became a test of patience, as it took a staggering 25 minutes for our coffees and desserts to arrive. This was the final straw, prompting me to express my concerns to the manager. Our visit to Charley's was fueled by expectations based on our past experiences, but sadly, the current state of service and quality no longer aligns with what Charley's used to stand for. Instead, we received a service comparable to that of a casual dining restaurant like Chili's. Regrettably, we have decided not to return. Competitors like Flemings, Eddie Vs, and Capital Grill prioritize their customers' experience, emphasizing service and quality. It's disheartening to see Charley's veer away from the standards that once set it apart
Truly The Best Steak House In Tampa
I lived my entire life in Tampa, and had never made it to Charley's Steak House until now, in my 60s. Wow, what a mistake that long wait was! This place is incredible. I thought it quite superior to other nationally-known steak houses in Tampa. The property is beautiful and classy, with lots of beautiful wood interiors. The food was amazing! We had Wagyu beef, standard filet, porterhouse, alligator, garlic mashed and au gratin potatoes, bacon/cheese creamed corn, broccolini.......... every dish a culinary masterpiece, prepared perfectly. Dessert was creme brulee and sweet butter cake with ice cream. Also on the menu that we didn't order: Chilean sea bass, lamb chops, bison ribeye, lobster, snapper, stone crab......... an embarrassment of riches. They also offer an extensive assortment of tasty hand-crafted cocktails, as well as a rich and varied wine selection. The service was world-class. Stephanie, our server, was wonderfully knowledgeable and informative, friendly, enthusiastic, attentive and personable. She was an absolute delight. I could not recommend Charley's any higher. It was one of the best meals I have ever had, and I will certainly be back as often as possible.
Excellent Service, Meals, and Atmosphere
Our reservations were for 5:30 and we arrived early and were promptly seated. Service was impeccable, food was exquisite, and atmosphere was cozy and pleasant. App was gator bites which were delicious. 4 of us had the wagyu filet mignon and 1 had the porkchop. All meals were plentiful, presentation was beautiful, and the cook was exactly as we each requested. 3 had the house salad and 1 the wedge and all were better than expected for salads. Baked potatoes were ginormous so definitely share if wanting one! The cheesy garlic bread was scrumptious! We shared the strawberry cake and chocolate cake and while both were great, we preferred the strawberry cake. Josh and JT were our waiters and they were attentive, suggestions were on point, and overall they were both outstanding.
WAYYYYYY Over-rated
Today you need to review the most recent reviews, as "times have changed", and living of previous years of success shouldn't steer one in a mis-direction. Cutting to the chase, had a reservation and stood in lobby for 20 minutes after the time of the reservation, suggesting that my time wasn't secured to assure me a proper seating (on a Monday night!). Three guests, and 2/3 walked out after dinner saying we would never return. 1 ate 3 bites and was done. The asparagus was tough, and the bread was buried in some cheese and butter, more diner-like than a 5 star steakhouse. Steaks were dry and way over peppered. The '24 oz Porterhouse' wqs closer to the 12 oz you get at Texas Roadhouse. STeaks at steakhouses are supposed to be at least an inch thick. This $70 piece was far from that. The other steaks were well over an inch thick, and upon delivering of my steak, one of my guests asked if I had ordered the child's portion. Service was good but phony....came for dinner, not a show. Spent > $350 and would not suggest returning. Very disappointing.

I have a reservation for Kasama Chicago I listed but it’s not showing up because the listed opening hours are only until 3 or 4 pm. My reservation is for their dinner service at 5. Is there a way I can change the times myself?
