Charlie Palmer Steak NYC New York Reviews from The Last Year
Sometimes, a good lunch is needed during work hours, and
Sometimes, a good lunch is needed during work hours, and Charlie Palmer fulfills that craving. We enjoyed a great two course prefix lunch during our time there. The choices were Caesar salad, scallop tartar, and lobster bisque. We chose the Lobster Bisque, which was smooth, fresh, and flavorful. For the entree we both had stak frite cooked to our liking. The fries were hot and salty (in a good way) and the steak was cooked to my liking with a peppercorn sauce. If your in the midtown area and want a filling lunch and a great price.. This is it!
Major disappointment
We couldn't make up our mind on where to go and many restaurants were fully booked so we decided to head to Charlie Palmer. In hindsight I now understand why they had availability when most other places were full...considering Charlie Palmer was one of the early celebrity chefs and a big name in the steak business, his NYC outpost is utterly disappointing. The service, the food, the ambiance, all below par. The service was very inattentive, wasn't very focused, preferred chatting with the hostess, and got orders wrong. The food was mediocre, not that we needed mind-blowing steaks, we just wanted good steaks, and even that bar wasn't reached. So overall not worth the visit, can not recommend this restaurant at all. So many better restaurants in NYC.
I'm so torn.
On the one hand the bartenders and the service at the bar was amazing We had a couple of drink at the bar prior to being seated at our table. My husband thought this would be a nice spot to enjoy a Valentine's Day dinner. They were very accommodating when he called to push our reservation back. However, it seems we should have just remained at the bar. Once we were taken to our table things went downhill. The good : the bread that they bring to the table is really good. I actually asked for a little more bread as well as that delicious spicy blue cheese spread! Our server was nice. He was really polite and he was helpful. Let me preface by saying we were seated in the outer dining area, where there seem to be more families with children, and it was a much brighter room. I asked if we could be seated in an adjacent room that was a little more dim and seems more suited for couples. It didn't seem like it was going to be possible however, I went to the restroom and returned and lo and behold. Somehow, my husband asked and they were able to get us a table there, which was very nice. My husband ordered from the menu. The French onion soup was pretty good. It was just a little sweet however he did enjoy it. He ordered the strip steak and it was really good as well. he asked that they slice it so that we could share it and I'm glad he did because that was probably the best thing I ate that night besides the bread. The creamed spinach was average. The fries were OK as well. The bad: unfortunately, my meal was a disaster. I ordered from their pre-fixe Valentine's Day menu against my better judgment, and also against my husband's advice. The first course was a foie gras. It was really bad to the point that it was pretty much inedible. I asked if I could change that to something else from the first course options. It was a burrata salad with greens and pickled vegetables. It smelled and tasted horrible unfortunately. So I did something I never ever do. I sent something back again. The second course was cavatelli with smoked duck breast. It sounded good and I was looking forward to it however, it tasted horrible. it was overly salted and the sauce wasn't good and the cavatelli was far too al dente. Since this was just the second course, I decided to cut my losses and deviate from the Valentine's Day prefixe menu. I decided to order something else but the waiter said that he would need to go and check with his manager and when he came back, he said the kitchen was closed because it closed at 10. The manager came over and she too said that the kitchen was closed. She did ask what I wanted to order if she could put something in I ordered steak frites just to keep it simple. When it arrived, it was smothered in some type of gravy. I've never had steak frites that looks like that. Also, I have to mention there was a prevailing flavor or ingredient that was in most of the dishes that just did not taste good. I'm not sure what it is that they are using or that they used but it was not good. The flavor was off. I took maybe one bite of the steak didn't eat the fries. I basically ate my husband's food with him. If it wasn't for the company it would've been a really awful Valentine's Day. It's really sad because this is a beautiful space absolutely gorgeous. However, the manager did not come over to apologize for how our dinner turned out. She actually seemed like she may have had an attitude with us. We dine out frequently at all types of establishments. We thought this would be a good one. On a special evening where our dinner was clearly not going well for the manager to not even acknowledge that was pretty tacky. She didn't offer to take even one drink off of the bill, dessert- nothing. We will never return. We will never recommend this restaurant. I should've spoken up when I saw that the location was in the 42nd St. area because it is very touristy. Perhaps that is who they want to attract people who will come once, and never again. I understand why on Valentine's Day evening the place was nowhere near being filled to capacity. Good food and good service are key to a restaurant's survival -even one located in Times Square.
Fantastic culinary delights worthy of Michelin Star
A great American grill that is hugely popular and deservedly so. The menu caters for all tastes and the ingredients are fresh and delicious. I had the lobster pasta and it was divine and huge portion with a slight spicy taste. You’ll get greeted by an efficient front of house team and the service by the waiters is attentive and impeccable. The food choices include vegan and other dietary needs and worthy of Michelin Star status. Whilst the prices are on the moderate to high, the quality, ambiance and service befit the huge accolades and ratings given. Set in the prime Manhattan midtown location near Times Square. You’ll have a gastronomic feast that will tantalise your tastebuds. You get fresh complimentary breads and the wine selection both by the Glass and Bottle huge. A booking is essential at the usual peak times.
My first time dining at Charlie Palmer, and I'm impressed.
I had a seat at the bar and perused the restaurant week menu($59 for three courses). The bartender Charlotte brought over a complimentary bread basket that contained two different types of butter. The bread, and the butter were tasty. I began with a wedge salad. It was nicely dressed, and the Bacon was cooked just right. I ordered Steak Frites as my main. It was tasty, but the Steak was a bit tough. The Fries were delicious. I finished with a New York Cheesecake. It was tasty, but by no means the best I've ever had. I'll be back!
A great dining experience.
High quality steaks, cooked to perfection as requested. Warm and friendly staff. Tasteful decor. We'll return.
We were immediately greeted with friendly smiles and seated
We were immediately greeted with friendly smiles and seated at the bar to await our table. The bartender was chatty and helpful in wine selection as I knew I intended to have steak (duh!) and wanted to try a new wine to accompany it. Once at our table, Richard introduced himself as our server. He was affable from the get-go and encouraged us to enjoy reviewing the menu at our own pace. Throughout the meal, Richard was more like a friend who was proud to serve us the meal he prepared in his own kitchen, rather than a server we just met. After appetizers, my dining partner and I elected to split an entree due to the fact we were visitors to the city and had no refrigeration in our hotel room. Richard was happy to oblige us and did not roll his eyes or make us feel inferior just bc we were sharing a meal at a fine dining restaurant. This was such a blessing! Thank you for not judging us negatively!! Lastly I'd like to mention the ambiance of the restaurant. It was certainly upscale but far from snooty. The staff were friendly and not stuffy. There were friends, families and couples dining in the same room, however, I bet each table felt as if they were in their own little private dining space due to the personalized attention and dedicated staff to each table. I would definitely dine here again and definitely ask for Richard. Great tasting and beautifully presented appetizers, steak cooked exactly per request, delicious veggie side dish, and a bottle of Brunello Di Montalcino meticulously attended to by Richard. This meal was the most enjoyable meal we experienced this holiday trip to New York. Thank you, Richard and CPS!!

Let me say that as a Landry's club presidents member, Charlie Palmer's turned out to be a real find. Service was right on point. The wine sommelier was perfect. And the steaks came out. Exactly as ordered. Needless to say the desert and the after dinner drink was the cherry on top of this Sunday. If you're in Manhattan, this is it don't miss location.
This place was really cool the steaks were amazing.
The best part was that Charlie Palmer came to our table and gave us a signed book. The place was still AMAZING. Written by a kid

Happy with the food, but the service does not match the price point and was very disappointing. Lots of people standing around, no one paying attention. I had a $200 bill as a solo and every service point (ordering, accurate food deliver, follow-up) was a struggle. Coffee shop ambiance with bright lights and no character.
Celebrated Thanksgiving dinner at Charlie Palmer in NYC
Celebrated Thanksgiving dinner at Charlie Palmer in NYC with my boyfriend. The hostesses were fantastic, promptly seating us and taking care of our jackets. Despite a minor hiccup with our waiter's professionalism, the hot and delicious food, along with generous portions, made it a memorable experience. The ambiance at Charlie Palmer was truly captivating, with a beautiful setting and exceptionally comfortable seating. The aesthetic added to the overall experience, making it an inviting and enjoyable atmosphere. Additionally, the wine selection was impressive, complementing the meal perfectly and enhancing the celebratory mood. Looking forward to returning for more delightful moments!
Very elegant! Very quaint with tables and sofas! Very quiet
Very elegant! Very quaint with tables and sofas! Very quiet ambiance that helped us thoroughly enjoy our meal. The meal choices were pretty limited but our meals were delicious. Loved the salmon with carrots and squash and the honey gave the Brussels sprouts a winning taste! This place is historic and is rumored to be the origin of the martini. So we had to order martinis. Not sure if the rumor is true, but the martini deserves a thumbs up!
The best steak house!
This was the best steak we have ever had! Great food, great ambience, great staff. The food was amazing, great quality and superb options. The bread and butter options served to you as you’re seated were extremely tasty and fresh. Would highly recommend
Nice lunch
This restaurant occupies the former space of once Michelin starred Auroele, one of my preferred restaurants in the area. The space still looks the same with high ceiling and tasteful decor. I dropped in for a lunch and the prix fixe menu was good. The tuna tartare was tasty. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare as requested. Though I am not a fan of steaks in sauce, I found the peppercorn sauce was not overpowering at all. The fries were delicious. Service was pleasant and efficient.
A bit disappointing for the price, but still great steaks
Great steaks and delicious side dishes. Our table ordered several expensive alcoholic beverages and they charged for one soft drink. Kind of prickly that they did that. We tried to order their famous coconut cake but they were sold out. Very expensive meal.

Good question. Currently the bidder will have to include the prepaid dinner price plus bid to secure the reservation. AT is currently working on an upcoming release where the prepaid amount and the bid amount are two separate transactions. Happy Bidding!
