Commanders Palace Destin Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing 🤩
Ryan and Kate and the rest of the staff were amazing! They gave excellent recommendations and provided great service. The food was outstanding. The double pork chop with spiced rum coconut sauce was soo good and perfectly delicious!
Excellent Meal & Service
Request seating on the first floor. Excellent meal and service. Delcious appetizers (turtle soup and carrot parfait). The best for last was the amazing bread pudding soufflé and the strawberry shortcake.
Bad service
I was very excited to be able to reserve a brunch spot to celebrate my birthday at Commander's Palace while visiting NOLA for our first time. The server Mary C wasn't helpful and not nice throughout the service and kind of ruined it all for us. She did not offer the drink menu for us to choose, when my husband asked for Filet mignon she said no, and when we pointed to the other table that had it, she still said you have to stick with the set Sunday brunch, even though we said we can pay the price for it. Same thing when we ordered the banana foster, but this time I was firm and she finally brought it but didn't bring the desert that was paid with the package. Both main courses were very lukewarm, the pecan crusted fish undercooked to the point that it was raw. The waitress brought it back saying Cheff is apologizing for it. This was in Feb 2016. I thought I would not write a bad review but it was such a disappointment for something that I was so looking forward to. We left there and ran across this cute restaurant Cochon and has fantastic small plates and even better, great service. We liked all the other restaurant we went to in French Quarter and never went back to Commander's Palace.
It’s didn’t let us down
Three colleagues and I decided to try the palace on our trip to New Orleans. It was our last night and we had an early flight so we picked the 6 o’clock meal time. We were a little surprised at the crowd, as it was much older than we had anticipated. we were greeted very friendly and everyone was super nice but as we walked to a table, there was an offputting smell that I could not quite figure out. It lingered through most of the night. There was more people got there. It diminished a bit. Three of us had the steak and one person had to fish and we all had desserts. Everything was very tasteful and yummy, but again, the atmosphere was just kind of odd to me. The complementary garlic bread is to die for.
Lives up to the hype
While some of my experiences in New Orleans didn’t live up to their reputation, brunch at the Commander’s Palace did. Service was impeccable, they did what very few other restaurants can pull off. Started with the turtle soup, best turtle soup I ever had (and tried it at Arnaud’s the night before after the waiter there said they had the best in town, he was wrong). The pecan crusted fish (hake) was also great, perfect flavor and taste. I went with the bread pudding soufflé, and while it looked fantastic I found the soufflé did not add much to the bread pudding; not bad but not as good as the first two courses. Atmosphere was also excellent, must do when you are in New Orleans.
A wonderful dining experience.
Outstanding in every way. Service was flawless. Food was amazing. We celebrated my son’s birthday and they made it classy and special.
My choices in new orleans
Antoine’s Arnaud’s Brennan’s Commander’s Palace Galatoire’s Stayed five days in New Orleans, enjoyed southern hospitality, ate like crazy, walked plenty and … I’ll be back for more We went to all of the above restaurant for dinner and the result was not that great, the one that we really enjoyed was Brennan’s, the gumbo and turtle soup were the best of the lot, the entrees were also very good, everything was very good although service was not the best Second was commander’s palace, gumbo was not as good but the were and the soufflé was very good, service was excellent Galatoire’s and Antoine’s were extremely blah, not worth a review And the worst was arnaud’s what a terrible place, stay away …. Plenty of better choices Summary we went to Brennan’s twice, Cochon also was very good and we went twice, napoleon house was a cheap eat also good
You Gotta Eat Here!
Wonderful dinner experience that took you back into old days of southern charm. Service was exceptional and food was delicious. First time having turtle soup and was not disappointed as it was topped with a yummy aged sherry. Best dishes were the Shrimp & Tasso Henican that paired well with the table-side bread and of course the Bread Pudding Soufflé!
If you like food on cruise ships, you’ll like this.
I’ve been to Commander’s many times. Frankly, I always feel like I’m at a wedding, eating wedding food, served by wedding waiters. Lots of folks come here to celebrate birthdays etc (you’ll notice balloons tied to chairs), but any local will tell you there’s a long list of better, more interesting places in the city to eat.
Really not sure why this place gets so much hype
Cool spot in the garden district, but I feel its relying on its historic aspects. Food was average, had four different dinners to taste, nothing stood out. The place is enormous but well put together, staff is everywhere which is nice. But with so many choices in this town this would certainly not be on my short or long list. Ate there 10 years ago and it was much better. Prices are very high, it seems like it’s there for folks on special occasions because of its history, i wont be going back.
Like a raucous gator hunter in a tux
A local institution, Commander's Palace is ground zero for old school N'awlins fine dining. The titular estate in which the restaurant resides is homey and gorgeous; the interior sprawls up several staircases and into many chandelier'd rooms. It has more than a hint of the haunted house vibe--the dress code is there to protect your embarrassment. Jeans would seem profoundly out of place. Service is swift, jovial, and accommodating. Everyone on the staff seems genuinely invested in your good time. Outside of the building the restaurant's name is spelled out in bulbs on a haint blue board. This kitschy signage is a fitting advertisement for the food, which is loud and friendly first, functional and gustatory second. Prudhomme and Lagasse are long gone, but Commander's Palace is dedicated to delivering their classics with panache. The menu is like a Greatest Hits compilation with a few new tracks thrown in for good measure--some of which, as with THE BEST OF STING, are much better than the average of the previously recorded material. (I happen to like "When We Dance" very much.) Turtle soup is a totally unnecessary dish, and it isn't exactly life-changingly delicious either, but it exists here as an exotic token of a bygone era. The prevalence of such tokens at CP is what qualifies it as a tourist experience more than a restaurant. This is not a knock, and this is not to suggest that the food isn't excellent. (My jerk-seasoned pork chop was an exquisite umami garden, particularly when washed down with my glass of top shelf Vacqueyras.) But the atmosphere and the majority of the dishes have a strange ersatz quality--I felt more like a child pretending to eat in a fancy restaurant than an adult actually dining in one. (Then again, maybe this was because the staff tied balloons to my table in observance of my birthday?) 'Tis, in the immortal words of Graham Chapman, a silly place. But there are times when we could all use a little more silliness.
Commander's Review
We went to celebrate a joyous lifetime achievement of on of my sons. We searched for a venue. My wife, who is from NOLA, suggested this would be the place. To give a bit of background, last time we dined at Commanders, the service was so poor, they insisted on comping the meal at my next reservation. While I appreciate the gesture, that is not what I do. I never feel good about it. It is far more important to have a good experience and hopefully the dining establishment will use that voiced experience to rectify the issue. Unfortunately, I did not leave a review for that experience. During the previous experience, the service was beyond poor. While I appreciate changing flatware between courses, if insufficient staff is available for the execution, they should not attempt the gesture (which I would expect an establishment desiring a solid reputation). Short version, no flatware came out prior to the meal. The food was then cold. And then, I still had to remove myself from the table, find a waiter, and kindly ask them to bring it out for the cold food. It was then brought out with a stare and a bad attitude. It was not even worth requesting warm food as a huge damper was put on the meal. Additionally, the cocktails were brought out after the appetizers arrived. Not a lot of time to socialize with my family (except when the food was cooling down). For this next go around I was going to have positive energy and a good attitude. However, it was even worse (can you believe). Initially I thought it was just me but that was not the case when by the end of the meal, all 7 of us were brought down and feeling a bit glum. When the waiter came to me first for my drink order, I directed him to the 3 ladies at the table as that is how I have been brought up. I got rolling eyes and a sarcastic look. He then proceeded to tell me that he was here to take care of us all and still expected I ordered first. Commanders, please educate your staff on etiquette. My first drink order was not correct. More eye rolling. As our waiter was not to be seen for a while, we did order a drink from another waiter (which never came) and were not so nicely explained for the martini lunch special, we can only order from our waiter. More eye rolling. While not all bartenders are created equally, a martini is an elegant drink with a special presentation. Each martini that came out was the spirit, ingredients, and ice cubes in a martini glass. Kind of like what we had at my fraternity parties in college. If the staff is not available to create a proper martini lunch, then it should not be offered. More bread requested and another eye roll. One of the most ridiculous moments came when we requested a picture of our table to celebrate this life achievement. It seemed like a massive request. A single shot with an iPhone...and another eye roll. Please explain the concept of affability to your staff. The poor affability was contagious and unfortunately by mid meal we were all brought down while trying to celebrate. It was so significant, we chose not to make any further requests and end the meal as soon as reasonably possible. Later that evening we went to Desi Vegas for a late dinner. Our waiter was Kevin. Apparently he has been there for 10 years. His service was impeccable and he relayed a very positive vibe. There was never any eye rolling. It seemed he was there to assure we had a great experience every step of the way. Brennens, you may want to see if you can hire him to educate your staff on etiquette, affability, and customer service. Kind of a finishing school for your employees. The positives of the meal were the genuinely celebratory ambiance and the consistency of the food. Hopefully as a family we will have many more great events to celebrate. We just need to figure out where.
Outstanding Birthday lunch
We visited CP today for lunch. Besides the appeal of the menu, the 25 cent martinis also caught our eye. Our party of four absolutely loved our food choices along with the outstanding desserts. But, what really stood out was the exceptional service. A well deserved shout out to Keke and Macy who were the real stars of the day. They provided friendly and welcoming service. Thanks CP for a very memorable birthday lunch. Thanks again to Keke and Macy for making our lunch even more special.
The A Team Doesn't Work on Monday Nights
Commander's Palace is my favorite restaurant in New Orleans. However, my most recent visit proved that they are not immune to an off night. First we had a very long wait for the bottle of wine we ordered. After ordering our meal, our first course came fairly quickly and then we became invisible to the two waiters working our table. We had an extremely long wait for our main course and it only arrived after the waiter finally came by our table and was surprised we did not have our dinner yet. She quickly returned with our entrees and you could immediately tell they were very cold and had been sitting someplace unserved for quite a while. We told the waitress they would have to try again and to her credit she immediately told the floor manager of the issue. The manager was quickly at our table, apologized and said we would not be charged for the entrees. New freshly made entrees were at our table very quickly (probably pulled from other orders in the kitchen). The food was as good as it always is at Commander's but it just wasn't their finest hour. The manager did a great job in rectifying the issues with the Kitchen and waitstaff.
Terrible…. Don’t waste your money.
Worst restaurant experience in New Orleans.. Our table was cheap plastic covered in white cloth. The leaf in front of where I was sitting was not even level and my food would slide towards me the entire meal. Our waiter David was pompous from the start and seemed put off by having to wait on a table with three children. The turtle soup tasted like it was out of a can. The bread which we were told would be out with the drinks didn’t make it to the table until we were almost finished eating and I reminded David we still had not received it. Then it was tossed on the table wrapped in a napkin. This was suppose to be a nice dining experience. If I wasn’t spending so much money I would have thought I was at Dick’s last resort. There are plenty of good places to eat in New Orleans. Don’t waste any money going to this one.
Delicious!
This lunch was the best overall meal we had when in New Orleans! The food was amazing and we loved the band walking around to each table to perform.
Fantastic Dining Experience
Truly a special restaurant where the service and food are spectacular. We had been here before the pandemic, and now with the pandemic a bit more behind us, we went again, and had an extremely enjoyable meal. I ordered the corn fritters with shrimp for an appetizer, and ordered a second one for my main entree. My husband had fish, and both of us had the bread pudding. The food was delicious as were the special martinis for $5.00 and the reasonably priced wine. We enjoyed the ambiance even though the restaurant was crowded on a weekday.
DON’T GO! Very disappointed!!
DON’T GO!!! I had high expectations and got low results. The service was terrible. The food was average. I guess it’s turned into a tourist trap. The glory days are over!!!! What a shame. The whole family was disappointed.
Amazing bite worth the price
The service was amazing and each bite of food that we had great. The drinks were strong and the team did a great job to make us feel welcome. The Bread Pudding soufflé with the whiskey cream was the show stopper that you must have.

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

Give the best answerNewbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
