Outstanding!! Worth the wait! 5 from our tour ran in and had the best dinner! We opted for the 3 corse $38.50. 1st corse--We had: mussels and leeks and gruyere tart--incredible! 2nd corse: sea trout and chicken! So delicious. We argued which was better! 3rd corse--sticky toffee pudding If we knew about this place we wouldve had it our first night in Portree

Great place for any type of food. They go out of their way to make sure you are happy. It is well worth the money. They don’t take reservations
Would not recommend
We were tired but super excited about eating here after the reviews. Our family eats Mussels everywhere we travel to but we’re disappointed with how bland theirs was. The Fish and Chips were extremely bland and disappointing as well. Would not recommend…pricey for what you get. The sticky pudding was the best thing we had between the 5 of us.
Dinner at Portree in raining day
Walk-in at 6pm as just 4-5 tables left. Ordered th set, one starter is mussels and one is salad. The mussels is excellent! Main is fish and forgot the other. The fish is good as crispy. Service is good and the price is reasonable.
Tasty fish and chips
The restaurant was quite busy, but there was still a table available for us. I ordered fish and chips. It was good, but I had to wait a long time for the tartar sauce. The dessert, toffee pudding, was also delicious. However, it was a bit pricey.
Great Portree Restaurant !
This is a great restaurant . The trout, scallops , fish and chips and the chicken was all unbelievable . They do not take reservations and the queue starts about 10-15 before they open. Highly recommend this restaurant .

Excellent little restaurant. Great food and quick friendly service. We ate there twice. It was me of my most delicious meals in our whole trip to Scotland. I got the seafood platter.
Nice walk in restaurant
This is a very nice (mostly) fish restaurant. You can’t book, so have to queue. Because most restaurants were fully booked we went twice, first time we queued for about 30 minutes (there was some form of festival in the town), the second time about 10 minutes. The menu is small, but there are different choices from scallops to fish and chip, a mixed seafood platter, and beef cheeks. The scallops, fish and beef were all very nice. The menu has a 2 course and 3 course price, but having seen how the bill was made up on the first night my wife just had a main course which they charged us £25 for. I wish they would remove the “we are short staffed” sign from the entrance. There is nothing that is making it more difficult to get staff now days, so the staffing levels they have (for whatever reason) will be “normal”.

We were able to get a table really quickly here which was great because all of the other restaurants were booked. You have the option of two or three courses and if you pick two, you can choose appetizer and entree or entree and dessert. Appetizers: - soup of the day (cauliflower; 5/5): excellent and unusual, great balance of earthy and sweet - bang bang chicken (3/5): this served more like a salad, so that was a bit unexpected. Flavor was still good, just not something we would order again. Entrees: - pan seared scallops (3.5/5): something we've noticed in Scotland is that any pan seared scallops we ordered did not have as hard of a sear as we're accustomed to in the US, but that's likely just an us problem. Aside from that, the flavor on these was good, just not a favorite. - pan roasted sea trout (5/5): this was dish was excellent and the smoked haddock cream sauce (not too fishy) was such a great compliment to the trout Dessert: - sticky toffee pudding (5/5): sticky toffee pudding is a dime a dozen in Scotland, but this one is really good. The ratio of ice cream was perfect, the pudding was not too dense or dry, and the berries were fresh and flavorful.

It's a place to eat in order to get out of the rain. Fish and chips, hard to mess up, not the best not the worst. It was food. Service was fine, would have liked 1 or 2 more walk bys asking "how are you doing" "do we need anything". As we did, but had to wait for a server to come into our area. Though very pleasant and helpful when asked. They must have been busy.

We had a lovely lunch here while on a recent visit.
The restaurant is very attractive, with lots of natural light by the large windows and comfortable seating. The menu is brief and devoted almost entirely to fish and seafood; the seafood stew seems to be a house specialty, and is offered singly or for 2. My husband and I both opted for the fish & chips, and were both very happy with the choice. The fish was a large filet, perfectly breaded and fried, served with delicious chips and a small side salad. Service was friendly and prompt, and we were also visited by a manager, who checked in to make sure everything was OK. I capped my lunch with a wee nip of Bruicheladdich, which hit the spot. Nice place and a delicious lunch.
Not crazy about the selection, food was adequate
I don't remember seeing an a la carte menu; we only had the choice of a 2 course or 3 course meal, or seafood platters. That made it difficult, as we had young children and were worried about picky eaters; if we would over or under order food; and ordering more food meant a significant increase in the overall price. In the end, we ordered two of the 3 course meals, and that was sufficient between our family of four. I shared with my 7-year-old. The leek and onion tarte tasted bland, and we felt it improved with the addition of salt. We did enjoy the braised beef cheeks and sticky toffee pudding. Between my husband and 10-year-old, they did NOT finish the haddock or cheese plate for desserts; I don't think they were impressed. So I would say the food is hit or miss, and that will affect your opinion. Service may be considered slow, but I think that is a consequence of a busy restaurant in a popular tourist area. I will say during our meal, there was an unruly customer who verbally abused the staff and caused a scene. I think the staff did a good job handling the situation. They did not escalate his agitated state and remained calm. I'm sorry the staff had to go through it.
Fish cooked well
I watched the restaurant being renovated and was excited to try this. The food is ok and the fish well cooked but would have been fine with some lemon and nog so many additions. Menu confusing: two and three course prices but hard to workout what individual dishes cost if you don’t want those options. A sign at the bar saying prices had gone up seemed irrelevant in a restaurant that was almost entirely tourists. Front of house team - please smile.

The service and the food speaks for itself. I walked right in with no reservation but I was there during the low tourist season. I heard that the line wraps around the corner at the peak of summer so reservation will be highly recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed my seafood dinner here. They served the freshest catch of the day on their seafood platter for GBP35. I was thoroughly satisfied with every bite of my meal. It was huge portion for one but I ate them all! The taste of the ocean and slight brine on their langoustine, mussels and salmon were divine. Till today I still dreamed of having it again. For drinks, they ha a great Skye beer selection and of course, whiskey

It took us four nights to get into Cuchullin, but it was worth the wait. The food was fresh, delicious and unique among the other places we ate at in Portree (no slight on any of them--we had wonderful dinners around town). We sampled four different dishes, from scallops to steak, and all were prepared with care. The soups and salads and sides were as good--the salad was the best we've had in Scotland, crisp, with a bright dressing and great greens. The staff was friendly and accommodating, willing to let our small group lounge without making us feel we needed to go. All in all, we wished we could have had another meal at Cuchillin, but we're glad we got one great one.
BUSY PLACE, HARD WORKING WAITING STAFF
We were slightly nervous that they don't take reservations but got there at 1230 for lunch and got table without too much difficulty. But the place quickly filled up. My wife had the mussels, which were excellent; I had the venison burger, full of flavour, one of the best I've had; but (as one other critic says here) the skin-on chips are not great and shouldn't be allowed in any kitchen. Extremely popular with Chinese tourists, it seems, all of whom received the same efficient and effective service the waiting staff gave us (so I'm surprised by the suggestion of discrimination in one of the reviews here). All in all a very pleasant dining experience which I would recommend.

This restaurant is an exceptionally excellent dining establishment. We've frequented it on numerous occasions over the years, including two visits in July 2023 during our stay in city. The seafood is truly exceptional, possibly the finest around. The service and atmosphere are equally delightful: Danny and Fabio provide top-notch care, although the entire staff is friendly and service-oriented. Our dinners there have always been outstanding, with our most recent choices being halibut and blackened swordfish. Everything is consistently superb! The restaurant also boasts an impressive wine selection. We enthusiastically endorse this restaurant.

Cuchullin is an awesome place! Had dinner there and everything was fantastic. Our waitress went above and beyond making sure our experience was great. Every staff member was welcoming. Anyone on the isle of Skye should make a point to visit this place
An awesome small gem in Portree, Isle of Skye.
Our first night in town (a Wednesday) we went to go after seeing it on our walk around town but they had an hour and a half wait. We were really intrigued about that so decided to put a reservation in for the following evening. We both got the scallops and they were absolutely phenomenal. Service was great and we both loved how small and quiet of a restaurant it was, made even better knowing we were enjoying fresh seafood just steps from the water. Ambiance was on point. Writing this review because I hope others try it out and also so I have record of just how much we enjoyed this meal with the hopes of going again should we ever return to Isle of Skye.

Great food, mediocre service
Had lunch here, we had the seafood platter that was loaded with fresh mussels, scallops, and salmon. A squeeze of lemon was all that was needed! Most excellent, even though they did not have any langoustines that day. Drinks were mediocre and service was absolutely terrible. Probably the worse service I’ve experienced in Scotland during my trip. Will give some grace as it was lunch time and Portree is a small quaint town with tons of tourists.
Seafood platter lunch
Portree has limited restaurants open in the wintertime. Really slim pickings for food at this island. The menu had a handful of selection. I had the seafood platter (as pictured for $38) with loads of mussels, a portion of salmon, and 4 delicious sweet scallops with side of boiled potatoes. The steamed mussels were fresh but bland (least they could do is boil it in some kind of broth). The scallops were the best! The venison stew was ok. Its a bit pricey but we were in and out in an hour.... and most restaurants pretty much serve the same thing. Yes I agree with other reviewers, the (short, young, long dark hair) waitress was curt, snippy (and stressed out) not friendly & definitely not a happy camper. Overheard guests table over that the waitress made them feel uncomfortable. Management should address this issue (not trying to get her fired but learn some courtesy to customers).
Solid quick lunch
Fell into this place in Portree when looking for a quick lunch. The menu was fairly limited but varied enough to suit the varying palates of a family of 4. Fish and chips was generously sized, fish super fresh and chips cut from actual potatoes. Scallops well cooked and accompanying cauliflower puree and caper smush very tasty. Mussels and chips was good mussels and chips. The pasta with tomato and basil ragu sounded mundane but was actually unusually good. Service quick and efficient. Would go again.
Not sure if it was worth the wait
There was limited choice in Portree so we dined here. No booking system so we had to wait about 30 minutes in a entrance porch. There were 4 choices for mains and no vegetarian option which I’m not sure why this wasn’t offered. I selected fish and chips but it came with a side salad. Fish and chips can only be served with peas surely. My husband had the mussels, again no chips or crusty bread, chips purchased separately. And the chips were the type with skin on. It was ok, service pleasant and quick.

This is worth stopping in for a bite. Warning, however - they do not take reservations so be sure to get there when they open for dinner at 5:30.

Not very many options in Portree and many places are booked out so we took the chance and joined the queue for Cuchillin. No one greeted us or any of the other people in the queue, even to say hello or set expectations for the potential wait. For us, this was over 45 minutes on a very rainy day! Once inside, it was clear why. Only three young girls running around like headless chickens in a very busy restaurant. The food was delicious and the girls serving us were really lovely and clearly doing their best. Whoever owns that restaurant might be served well in helping their staff.

This is one of the most popular restaurants but doesn't take reservations, so you need to stand in queue to get in. I saw a line of people waiting the night before, so when I noticed that nobody was waiting outside at the beginning of lunch time I immediately went inside to get a table. I was seated immediately and within 15 minutes the restaurant was filled. I ordered the seafood platter for one (£34) and was disappointed to learn that they didn't have the langoustines, one of the 3 items supposed to be on the seafood platter. They substituted that with scallops, which were delicious and served on a large platter with a piece of salmon filet and many mussels. The salmon was cooked exactly how I preferred - cooked to perfection with salt without any sauce. The boiled potatoes and small salad that came along complemented this very healthy and delicious meal!
