Daniel New York Reviews from The Last Year
Great meal
Daniel is a great restaurant in New York City. The food and drinks are tasty. Everything was delicious. Great team who are professionals.
Wonderful meal
Another wonderful spot by Daniel Boulid. Can’t go wrong with his establishments. The food was wonderful. The drinks were wonderful.
I expected more, but not bad
I’ll start off by saying that while I don’t consider myself some frasieresque elitist who eats at places like this regularly I do have more than plentiful experience eating at a relatively wide variety of highly acclaimed restaurants both in and out of the US (although NYC is a focus point) which I believe would develop in anyone a perspective through which a restaurant like this can be judged. All this isn’t to say it’s a bad place to have dinner; the service was just the right level of attentive and the dining room was elegant while not drawing attention away from the other people at your table. My main issue is with the food itself… I had come here, in part, to impress my companion, but mostly to satisfy my desire to eat here considering the reputation. When you mention eating at Restaurant Daniel in an off-handed manner I’ve found many people both immediately recognize the place and express incredulity at such a prodigal exercise. Needless to say, I had waited for a good time to go for some time. Needless to say, I went in with high expectations. It was in that vain I got the seven course tasting menu. I found the start to be interesting, essentially three mini dishes which felt like a three course meal being served to a fairy tale giant. This was again followed with an interesting foie gras spread which my companion expressed to my agreement had an almost chocolate quality. At this point I am more than satisfied with the meal thus far and somewhat excited to see what comes next presuming the same uniqueness and quality of the first two dishes. Needless to say, I was sorely mistaken. After this my memory is foggy, as some of the dishes seem to just blend together in my memory on account of their frankly bland experience. There was essentially some fish and seaweed with drops of sauce, white truffle drizzled in a white truffle soup with dots of black truffle, another fish thing, bison (which was tasty but was small and the only meat course), and a couple more dishes. This fog isn’t because I wasn’t paying attention, I could describe every course I’d had at Gabriel Kreuther more than a year ago in excruciating detail, but because so many of the courses were uninventive and frankly boring considering the price. Even dessert seemed a bit off, it had a white outer coating and a chocolaty inside that somehow was less bold than the chocolate undertones of the foie gras. The coffee was great though! None of this is to say I disliked the food, but it seems to me like fine dining at its worst. portions so small I got a lobster roll and grand central terminal for the ride back, flavors so subtle they seem almost afraid to make a serious impression, and this je ne sais quois, which felt almost pretentious at times (my companion and I were definitely sure some of the staff were putting on fake French accents) I’ve mostly focused on the negatives, but given the price I think that much is fair. I’d still like to make clear that I didn’t dislike my experience, but the opposite of love is apathy, right?
Great culinary experience!
We LOVED Daniel! Each dish was thoughtfully crafted and expertly executed, showcasing the chef's dedication to quality and innovation. Dining at Daniel was truly a highlight of our culinary trip!
This upper east side institution was one of the original
This upper east side institution was one of the original New York City culinary renaissance stars. And it feels a bit like a blast from the past. The grand space is sprawling. A team of staff focuses on your every need. They are all extremely friendly and hospitable. Sadly the pace of the meal is a bit slow so at times they are left standing around. I will say 188 for 4 course at a 2 star Michelin Icon is reasonable. And you will leave feeling full. The food feels a bit dated. And the dishes are hit and miss. But that is a matter of taste. The meal started with a trio of leeks (very good). The spot prawn was a bit anemic. And the oyster dish didn't feel balanced (overly bitter) I enjoyed the bass. The lentils were perfectly cooked. But the bay scallops was a miss. The best dish was the perfectly cooked risotto with a hefty portion of black truffle. The mains were both ok but not amazing. The veal was overwhelmed by the cheese sauce. Finally the quail was solid. The deserts were fantastic and the drink menu is a hit. If you love classic Michelin style fare Danial is a must visit.
Celebrated my boyfriend's birthday here and I couldn't be
Celebrated my boyfriend's birthday here and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Made a reservation for 6 pm and arrived to a stunning restaurant with a comfortable table with a great view. It was wonderful before the food even arrived! Service was on another level as expected and cannot think of anything other than positive things to say! Food was delicious and such an amazing experience. The unexpected cheese course was such a great addition! Dessert was by far the best thing I've ever had with the Pettit fours and the freshly baked madeleines and the chocolate batons and to go caneles ! Just wow! The cherry on top was the personalized to go menus of our meal. Just wonderful! Also - the cocktails alone are worth a trip to this restaurant! The food is an experience I would love to have again and hope to! The service is exceptional too!
Friendly and welcoming staff, a nicely laid out restaurant
Friendly and welcoming staff, a nicely laid out restaurant and fantastic food. For any other restaurant, any of these factors would be a nice bonus but, for Daniel's reputation these factors were expected and they did not miss the mark. Each dish was fantastic and explained in depth as it was served. The wait staff were highly knowledgeable about the meal options and beverage pairings. What really set Daniel apart though, was the experience that the staff created. The presentation of each dish was carefully laid out and presented in an almost choreographed way. Additionally, their attention to detail was almost predictive of our needs. I have never had a dining experience like my experience at Daniel. I highly recommend visiting Daniel especially if you are trying to make an evening, "a night to remember".
I will definitely come again, whether it's for the service
I will definitely come again, whether it's for the service or the food, it's top-notch New York quality. My friends and I were late due to traffic, but they didn't cancel our reservation because of it. Unfortunately, we ended up sitting in the lounge later, but the experience was still excellent.
Service and ambiance were on point in my opinion.
The culinary experience was however not all hits and I found it to be a cumulative 3 stars for me. For example, I really enjoyed the parsnip-celeriac veloute, but found their rendition of foie gras gelatinous and unimpressive. Furthermore, the bison seemed to have been sitting under a lamp for too long and was cooked more than medium. I felt the remaining dishes were well executed.
This is truly one of the best Michelin star restaurants in
This is truly one of the best Michelin star restaurants in NY! From the moment we walked in, we were treated with so much respect. The waiting area and the dining room were very fancy appearing. The food was probably the best I've had from all the Michelin star restaurants! Aside from the amazing variety of blended flavors, the amount of food is what really impressed me. There were what felt like 10+ course and each course had solid material like steak, fish, foie gras, etc. By the end of the meal, I was stuffed!! Felt like a it was really worth the money. The restaurant was spacious and quiet, so we could enjoy the meal as a family. Daniel Bullard himself came to the dining room at the end of the meal and we took a picture with him! Very friendly guy. Would definitely recommend this restaurant!
My least favorite Michelin dinner.
Payola? 2 Michelin stars is excessive. Nothing felt inventive or even interesting. Judging by the majority of the crowd; stuffy, 70+ year olds, I just knew dinner would be underwhelming. My favorite bite of the night was the bread service. Thank you to the waiter who kept refreshing my plate. I would've left starved otherwise. We chose to do 4 courses versus 7 as the longer menu just wasn't anything we were interested in eating. Although I still ended up disliking 3/4 dishes I chose, I would scream if I had to sit for more courses. Adhd and a meal you don't enjoy is a painful combination. What I did enjoy was the service. Everyone was welcoming and attentive. I also enjoyed the dessert course and the fresh madeleines. However you don't pay $700+ on dinner just for dessert.
Unsurpassed dining experience
Daniel keeps getting better. It has been a while since I came and this time I felt that they are at their peak. We had a short timeline of only 1.5 hours but managed to fit in a perfect 4-course meal. Each dish was beautifully served and delicious as well as unique. I kept repeating, " I am so happy". I eat out quite a bit and this meal is my favorite for 2024 yet!
It is the epitome of a luxurious special occasion
It is the epitome of a luxurious special occasion restaurant that has been in business since 1987. Created by renowned chef, Daniel Boloud. The menus are tasting menus (dégustation )of 4 to 6 courses with a sublime wine list and sublime service. The service is very theatrical and the surroundings of fine art paintings by renowned artist. Alex Katz helps with the ambience of the setting and dining room. This is not your normal restaurant it is a special occasion restaurant
Loveeee
The ambience was just perfect.. The food and it's quality was simply amazing.. The staff is very nice all in all very good experience it was!!
It really is a great choice for celebration dining.
We had the four course meal, but it ended up being so much more - there were three more sweet offerings after our 4th course desert. I was afraid of getting more food in the end! They gifted us couple of little rum cake bites to go which I didn't have the stomach to eat until the next day. It was just a delightful experience that lingered and echoed in the little rum cake bites I scoffed down a day later - yes, it was still delicious.
Disappointed
I was there in September. The service was very good but I was very disappointed in my food. The pork was very dry. I have dined at very fine Michelin star restaurants elsewhere and Daniel was not on par with those sadly.
Extraordinary
One of the best culinary experiences we’ve had in a long time. The food was extraordinary and the service was top notch. We savored every course. And they did a lovely job celebrating my mom’s 85th birthday (we indicated on ressy and didn’t remind them) and made her feel so special. It was a beautiful experience all around and I highly recommend. Look forward to going back.
Doesn't disappoint, only maybe during COVID.
Love the food, the atmosphere, the location. Service is impeccable as it should be. Perfect date night.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
