Very cool spot
Great spot. Very intimate with low lighting and a cool ambience. We had to wait a little for a space but it was worth the wait. The cocktails pack a punch!
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere
We came for a quick drink before a later dinner reservation. We couldn't be seated until my daughter and fiance arrived. Once they arrived about 5:55, the wait was about 45 minutes for a table of 4. It had a good ambiance (dark, centuries old, European vibe). Three of the drinks were great, mine didn't have the depth of flavor that the other 3 had. The waiter was helpful in getting our check quickly so we could make it to our dinner reservation.
Be the first to ReplyCreative, diverse cocktails & amazing staff
Iโm pretty sure I saw this bar mentioned in a book, โ150 Bars You Need to Visit Before You Die.โ After my less than stellar experience at The Holiday Cocktail Lounge (reviewed separately), I walked around the corner to give this place a try. Iโm sure this place gets crowded on weekends, but I visited on a Monday night, and was able to be seated at the bar immediately. This is a small, darkly lit spot in the East Village that serves creative cocktails broken down by category. Categories include: light and playful (my fave), bright and confident, elegant and timeless, boozy and honest, rich and comforting, and even non-alcoholic. I loved every drink I had here. Each concoction was light, refreshing, tasty. Each had unique ingredients from around the world and across the flavor spectrum. One of mine even had kumquat (seriously!). So tangy! The staff here is amazing. The mixologists are cool & talented. Despite the elevated ingredients and higher price tags (I think the cheapest drink I had was 19 dollars), the staff were interactive, funny, down to earth, and attentive. Including the door folk (hostess and security). In fact, they were so nice, I asked them WHY management would have them standing out in the cold and snow with no protection aside from an umbrella). Cmon managementโdo better to take better care of your awesome people! There will be a separate email to management coming! ANYWAYโthis place is great. Right up there with Goodnight Sonny in my book. I normally write more about the drinks I had and the menu when I review bars & restaurants, but the menu here is so diverse, fun, and unique, itโs best to find out for yourself. They have a bar snack menu as well, but I was only there for the libations!
Be the first to ReplyThe birthplace of the craft cocktail
๐ฌ๐ง In their 15 years of operation Death & Co has more or less become an institution. Founded by legendary David Kaplan, a lot of the craft cocktail trend originated here. We braced ourselves and patiently waited in line outside when they opened. The dark and cool bar was like was entering another world and itโs easy to forget about time in there. The cocktail menu goes from light & playful to bright & confident, followed by elegant & timeless and ends with boozy & honest. Our benchmark cocktail was impeccable and The Space Tiger with Mezcal and Cucumber bitter was delicious. Donโt overlook the food either, this is some of the finest bar food weโve ever seen! The only negative, for us who like to talk to the bartenders, is that they are so busy. A highly recommended visit, if you can get in. ๐ฅ๐ ๐ธ๐ช Ett starkt rekommenderat besรถk i East Village รคr Death & Co som mer eller mindre startade craft cocktail rรถrelsen fรถr 15 รฅr sedan. Be the first to ReplyAfter going to the one in LA we had HIGH expectations, and it lived up to it!
Some of the BEST cocktails around. We went to the LA location a few months earlier and had been looking forward to seeing if the NYC lived up to our experience in LA, and it certainly did! Great small bites and delicious cocktails. Pricy, but feels well worth it.
Be the first to ReplyReally nice
We were there for a drink before dinner. The atmosphere is nice. The cocktails were fresh and delicious. The waiter was very friendly and helped us to decide. My wife didnโt liked his drink and he changed it, no questions asked. I highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyNot as cool as they think they are
On the great side, the cocktails were interesting with clever names, and the ingredients were curated from far and wide. On the crummy side, the $10+ popcorn appetizer tasted like popcorn from anywhere after being hyped by the server. After buying 2 $40 books and getting 6 cocktails, it started to get busy and the newly arriving table next to us didn't have a menu. We gave them ours, but when the server returned with our bill to sign he accused us (twice!) of stealing it. "They have one, where is YOUR menu?" The other table graciously returned it to him, but any happy feeling from the $20 cocktails was gone, and I regret owning the books. I think they are really aiming to make a good experience for regulars, not special occasions - but they really think the menus are all that!
Be the first to Replyterrible service
i came here with friends. this place has terrible service and overpriced drinks. the wait is too long and not worth the hype.
Be the first to ReplyOut of this world
I have been there a while ago, bem I'm writing now, we were in 4 ppl each had 3 cocktails in total of 12 different cocktails...all of them... amazing! But be there at exactly opening time, we were there 5 minutes later and there was a lineup already.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent cocktails
Service was fantastic here. We had to wait a while for a table, but once seated, everything we could possibly have needed was attended to.
The Parabola cocktail was not for me, but we tried a number of marvellous cocktails including Thunderstruck, which is great if you like fruity but punchy.
The kingmaker, was also good, though I feel it took too much away from the excellent whiskey upon which it is built.
One of my favourites in NYC so far. Will be back soon to try more!
Fantastic
This place was recommended to me as a โmust doโ in nyc. It was right around the corner from our hotel so we had to visit, and Iโm glad we did. The atmosphere was dark and intimate, great for either a date or a group of friends. We sat at the bar, chatted with the staff and enjoyed 2 drinks each. The drinks were expensive but well worth it for the experience! Give it a go!

Hidden from unwanted eyes, Death & Co. is a must-go bar when youโre in NYC. Probably best signature cocktails I have ever had. Highly recommend this place to anyone who wants an authentic experience.
Be the first to ReplyToo cool to stand
On a recent trip to NYC we hit Death & Co based on a recommendation from someone I respect. Fortunately we got there reasonably early because this is a no standing establishment. Thatโs right, if thereโs no seat you wait. I love that. We were seated immediately and were waited on at once. The cocktail menu is insane. There are more unique cocktails made from ingredients I wouldnโt ever dream of. The drinks were outstanding. The food was ok, but you donโt go to this place for the eats. Booze is first, food is the side piece. The prices were pretty darn reasonable too. Even in NYC you didnโt feel like it was out of line.
Iโll go back next time I hit the City for sure. Donโt miss this place.
Great secret cocktail bar
I just happened across this place after visiting a near by record shop. You'd walk past and miss it but I got talking to the door man who invited me in. Through a heavy black curtain is revealed a well designed cocktail bar. I sat on a stool between to strangers and spent 2 hours talking to them ad enjoying the atmosphere. Unpretentious, great cocktails, really fun New York experience. Recommended.
Be the first to ReplyAtmospheric Speakeasy
Just a handful of tables - get there early or be prepared to wait. The interior is very dark and atmospheric, like you would expect a speakeasy to be. Perhaps a little worn around the edges, but I understand that they underwent a makeover just after our visit. I loved that our server created the perfect cocktail for me based on a few questions. Our other drinks were delicious as well. We look forward to coming back on our next visit to NYC.
Be the first to ReplyA bar like no other.
First you feel as you have entered a secret club when you enter this dark and quaint bar. The mixologists at the bar are fun and engaging and will explain any of their wonderful cocktails to you. They have been creating some of the best cocktails for over a decade. I waited a long time to visit this bar and I was not disappointed. This was one of the highlights of my trip!
