I recently visited Decoy in New York, and let me tell you,
I recently visited Decoy in New York, and let me tell you, it was a game changer! The ambiance was so great, and it had an unforgettable vibe. The staff were friendly, and they made us feel right at home. We started off with the appetizer which was absolutely divine. The flavors were on point, and it set the tone for the rest of the meal. For the main course, I had the signature dish, and I can't even begin to describe how amazing it tasted. It was cooked to perfection, and the presentation was top-notch.

Made reservations to come here for a date night with my partner and from the drink to the dessert we were not disappointed. The menu is filled with great selection of items. Presentation was top class with every plate dressed nicely. The food was delicate and flavorful. The duck was the best we have had. Perfect skin with tender meat. The buns they use a super flat so the flavor is of the duck itself not a cake style bun. It is accompanied by varied sauces all were fabulous. Would go here again any time.

1/24/23. I also tried calling but the number seemed to be disconnected.
Be the first to ReplyAlthough the food was good, the experience was not.
As a result of how many people they squeeze into a communal table, one of the servers spilled a dish on me as they were trying to clear it. A good faith gesture such as drinks or one of our dishes on the house would've likely made me forget the whole ordeal, however we received neither, so here I am. Won't go back, wasn't an enjoyable experience and can find better food elsewhere.

Exquisite food , we throughly enjoyed the Peking duck , the soups, dumplings ... there was enough on the menu for the vegan / vegetarian people in our group. We throughly enjoyed our evening, would go there again and again
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is in my top three in the city.
The Peking duck is the best I have ever had. Every time we go in we get excellent food and excellent service. Sarah always goes "Above and Beyond" to make sure all my husband's dietary needs are met and she always remembers us when we come in. She is an asset to Decoy and any industry which needs great customer service!
Be the first to ReplyThe Peking duck was awesome.
Would highly recommend. Worth the price. Will return soon.
Be the first to ReplyDecoy is a standout if you're after top notch Peking duck.
Their old menu no longer exists and they've combined menus with their sister restaurant right above it, RedFarm. So now you can still get the Peking duck but the menu options around the duck are now from the red farm menu. The Peking duck, which you generally have to reserve in advance, was excellent as always. One of the best you'll find in NYC. We got an order of dumplings to start which were very good as well as a fried rice which was also great. Everything is always good here but come for the duck.
Be the first to ReplyI'm giving a mediocre score for the taste.
The service was actually great.Everything is way too salty, therefore masking any taste of the food. Food were also served in strange orders, for example Peking duck soup is always served after the duck, it's supposed to be light and fresh, with tofu and cabbage in it, should be a white broth. So it's like a break from the greasy and savory duck wraps. It helps adjust the tasting paces, which is important for any nice dinner. But here it's a shot of over salty soup before the duck, shadows the taste of duck, just adds more burden to the tasting experience. I'm not against creativity with food but it should either taste better or be healthier, unfortunately all the adaptations are against these two simple criteria. Fancier? Maybe, I have reservations for that as well.

Not only is this a NYC staple in my mind but it's also one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at!I could list a million reasons to eat here but at the end of the day the only reason you need is the Peking Duck!! When you make reservations here you will want to reserve a Peking Duck for you're table(or 2 if you're me) because it's absolutely amazing! It is served in the traditional way sliced very thing with the crispy skin piled on top!Whether you're visiting NYC or are a local, this is a must!
Be the first to ReplyIF I HAD TO CHOOSE A LAST MEAL, this would be it.
Decoy sits beneath RedFarm and is a hidden gem. You have to make reservations but trust me it's worth a stop when you're in NYC. It's a cozy small restaurant with a long bar and communal table in the center. When you make reservations you'll want to tell them you want the Peking duck so they can do the prep work in advance. Once you arrive you'll get to choose a few appetizers. I got the shrimp and corn dumplings which I may have inhaled in two bites and the foie gras which sat in phyllo dough and had a delicious strawberry purée on top. They also give you fried fish skins which are super salty and briney and delicious! When the duck comes out, it's a true treat! It's an entire Peking duck, three sauces, homemade scallion pancakes, and various toppings. When I tell you the amount of flavor in everything is ONE OF A KIND. Everytime I'm in NYC, I come and have this meal and it will always be my choice if I had to choose a last meal!

We came to try Decoy's famous Peking duck, which some say is the best in the city. Though the duck was definitely enjoyable, it truly did not feel worth the high price. Perhaps the greatest crime is that they don't serve you duck broth made from the bones- you get a measly shot glass at the start, and that's all. The service was perfectly fine but we were left alone for most of the night- I have higher expectations when the bill is $$$. The standout dish of the night may actually have been the oxtail dumplings, which were delicious. I'm glad we tried it, but I am content never coming back.
Be the first to ReplyEmployees ignore customers.
My husband and I went to a cafe and no one approached us within 35 minutes. The staff is not professionals. We went to another cafe where the staff will respect us. Today is Sunday, March 20, 10 p.m. It's unpleasant to me that the staff pretended that we didn't exist.
Be the first to ReplyDuck was amazing, and every table had a duck order.
Make sure you reserve it. A bit disappointed that they combined the menu with Red Farm, as I was looking for their menu as advertised online. Other dishes were decent, but overpriced. Will come back for the duck though. See my pics.
Be the first to ReplyCame here after hearing good things about their Peking duck.
If you want to try their Peking duck, you need to call ahead and ask to reserve one with your reservation.I got to try the Peking duck and the also the chicken and mushroom dumplings to start. The dumplings were really good; a lot of umami from the chicken and mushroom filling. The Peking duck was also very good. The skin and crispy and the ratio of fat and lean meat was on point. The Peking duck comes with 10 thin wrappers and 3 different sauces to use. It also comes with shots of duck consomme which was interesting and unique. Overall a pretty pleasant experience.I would recommend coming to Decoy with a party of 3-4 and trying their Peking duck along with some of the other appetizers. The seating is a little awkward; there is one giant table in the middle to seat most of the guests so it can be difficult to arrange for parties of certain sizes. The duck is really good though.

Sarah is the best waitress I've had in a long time and she deserves a raise.... HANDS DOWN. Not only was her service game on point, but her door-shutting game was even better. She kept my grandma warm and cozy all night.
Be the first to ReplyThe Peking duck is truly excellent and is on par with that
The Peking duck is truly excellent and is on par with that of some of the best restaurants in Beijing. The meat is tender and lightly salty while the skin is perfectly crispy. It's been consistently good both of the times we've visited. That being said, I hesitate to return in the future due to an incredibly offensive experience during our most recent visit. Those of you familiar with the restaurant know that with the exception of bar seating, seating is at a single long table parallel to the door. Because of the small space and being somewhat below ground, during the colder months, the restaurant is very drafty whenever the door opens, even more so near the door. When we arrived for our reservation for 4, the restaurant was mostly empty but the host decided to seat us at the position closest to the door despite there being 10 other free seats further inside. She said they were reserved for a party of 6 that had not arrived yet, which didn't make much sense to me, especially considering we could've still been moved further from the door even after accounting for that party of 6. We ultimately had to ask three times before she finally agreed to move us. I can't fathom why she decided to treat us this way. We were the only Chinese family that evening; was this just casual racism? We weren't dressed to the nines, having spent the day showing my parents around the city; did she think we wouldn't be able to afford much? (We ended up spending $400 by the way.) Either way, I don't plan on coming back, regardless of how good the duck is.

Be the first to ReplyHands down the best pork buns I have every had.
The review I saw on the Decoy was "so good it should be Michelin star" so I was eager to try. I was not let down. The duck which is $95 was outstanding. I would definitely say you need a couple side dishes to make it a full meal because just between 2 people I was still a touch hungry after. The duck is served with 3 sauces, fresh cucumber, and Korean pancakes. The duck practically melts in your mouth and the sauces add and extra flare. Before you eat the duck you're given a "shot" of duck miso to clear your palette and even that was to die for. We finished off with the chocolate cake which was very light, but so delicious. One thing to note, seating is at a big family like style and the only other seating is the bar. We did sit right next to 2 other parties of strangers however, the whole experience was interesting and not worth taking off a star.
Be the first to ReplyThe only resemblance between the "Peking Duck" served here
The only resemblance between the "Peking Duck" served here and actual Peking Duck was that the animal served was (probably) a duck. Even ignoring the lack of authenticity, the duck and side dishes here tasted from bad to mediocre. Combined with the rude service, uncomfortable dining environment, and extravagant menu prices, we were left with the horrific realization that we just dined at a restaurant more expensive, less authentic, and less tasty than PF Chang's.Let's first address those who are looking for an authentic Peking Duck experience. The duck was not prepped as Peking duck should be; the skin was not crispy and the texture resembled roast duck served at many Cantonese eateries and supermarkets. Now roast duck is delicious! But you can buy the same quality of duck at many shops around Chinatown or any Ranch 99 for about one-fifth the price they sell at Decoy. We thought we were paying triple digits per duck to eat Peking duck, which requires a preparation process that you can't get at Ranch 99 or at home. Nope, the money got us a roast duck that shouldn't cost more than $30 each. Furthermore, the duck was served with tortilla wraps instead of the thin smooth wraps they should come with. Once again, tortilla wraps can be delicious! But just like you wouldn't expect to be served a burrito when dining at an Italian restaurant, it was very off putting to find tortilla wraps at a Peking duck venue. That said, you can still have a great meal even if it's not authentic. Authenticity is not a requirement for a great dining experience; making sure you don't dine at Decoy is! Our night started off rough when the restaurant couldn't honor our reservation times, but this was only a small annoyance. Then we were informed they could not serve the 6 course meal we reserved, which was still no big deal, we'll just order a la carte. Then we were placed at a long dining table, shoulder to shoulder with other parties. Hey, it's uncomfortable and crowded, but at least it's cozy right? Then we were given menus that had blurry text printed on it. It's not every day you get tired eyes and a headache just trying to read the menu. Then came the first truly regrettable moment of the night: our waiter rudely demanded us order items from top of the menu to the bottom! I guess it was offensive for each guest to order their dishes one by one. You must gather all the dishes you want, sort them by the order they appear on the menu, and then tell the waiter one by one or suffer his wrath. At least you get a great teamwork exercise in with your meal.Decoy did display a professional level of consistency, as they proceeded to serve us dishes equally as distasteful as their service. The foie gras tart can be renamed as just tart. The Singapore style noodles were more brown then the golden color they should be, and remained mostly untouched by our party by the end of the night. The beef short ribs were tender, but did not have amazing flavor and did not resemble any recognizable ways of preparation (Korean, Chinese, nor French). And finally, the duck. Even though it was a roast duck instead of Peking, we still had high hopes because let's face it, roast duck is usually ducking delicious! Alas, our duck was small, so small that half of us were convinced what was on our plate was just half the duck. As we started eating it became apparent that the skin was soggy and many cuts of the meat were dry. Some cuts were great, but the overall duck quality was definitely worse than the roast duck you can buy at Ranch 99.We really wanted to like this restaurant, as all of us not only paid a lot for the meal but also took a precious night of our NYC trip to eat here. The lack of authenticity, mediocre dishes, rude service, and prices higher than the Empire State left us little reason to recommend this venue to any customers. Wait, except for the toilet. They have a toilet in their bathroom that has fancy cleaning and flushing capabilities, operated by a fancy controller on the wall. It's the only toilet in the entire restaurant so be prepared to wait in line to use it, but if you do get to use it will certainly be the highlight of your Decoy dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyLove everything about this plate.
The peking duck tastes very authentic, and even just the sides will fill you up. Bar is good too.
Be the first to ReplyPeking duck is delicious and big portion too.
Forget about the rest, cocktails are mediocre at best, lobster fried rice is awful awful. But with the quality of Peking duck, it deserves its four stars.
Be the first to ReplyPLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD REOPEN!!!! Decoy is the best
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD REOPEN!!!! Decoy is the best Peking duck you will have in NYC, perhaps anywhere in the USA. The portions are huge, I have never left a restaurant feeling more full than leaving decoy. The venue is SMALL, like pre covid max occupancy was 19 people. I totally understand it would be hard to reopen the space considering that but I would literally wait in line for hours to get a table here, it is seriously that good. I miss You decoy, come back to me!!!
