Yes, I'll admit it.
I trust Dave Portnoy's pizza reviews - it's to the point where when I conduct business travel, I'll only stop at places he rates at an 8 or higher. Am I becoming a pizza snob in my old age? Probably. I don't care. I told someone that I've lived in various cities in CA most of my life, and tried plenty of pies there. Taking chains out of the equation (which are mostly inedible), I believe some of the worst NY pizza (which includes New Haven, CT) would rank amongst the best in California. My continued pilgrimage to experience pizza excellence this particular trip brought me to Johnny's in Mt. Vernon and Di Fara deep in Brooklyn. I tried two slices - one regular and one square. The square one (maybe a grandma slice?) featured a thicker crust with more "heft", while the thinner crust had an extra crunchy crust. Zero flop on both. Pristine undercarriage. This place is a bit unique in that it featured pieces of ripped basil, which added a certain subtle boost of flavor. I'm normally a pepperoni or sausage guy. However, I wanted to have this one naked - no toppings, just cheese. This is the only true test of a pizza's base level of quality. Let me state unequivocally. Johnny's was extremely tasty, but Di Fara was on another level of unf---king-believableness. Nirvana. Manna from heaven. Pure bliss. All of it. You need to come here. You should be ashamed of yourself, because you SHOULD'VE been here already. Dave gave this a 9.4 - I'm giving it a 9.8. Enjoy.
Be the first to ReplyPizza is also nice and fresh.
It was cheaper before Dave Portnoy came but pizza is good nonetheless.

All the amazing things you hear about the pizza at Di Fara are absolutely true. This place is serving up quite possibly one of the best pizzas in Brooklyn and possibly all of New York
Be the first to ReplyParkings a bitch but the pizza is the best.
Ordered a pie to go around 3:30 pm. Double parked out front ran up got pie and thrn sat in traffic on the belt for an hour with the divine smell of NYCs Best Pizza wafting in the air. Couldnt reach back far enough to grab a slice. LOL. When we got home we attacked it. Truly lives up to the hype!!!!
Be the first to ReplyBest pizza in NYC! It's worth the wait.
If you want a whole pizza, you can call 20-25 minutes in advance for pick up.

Be the first to ReplyThe absolute best pizza I've ever had in my life.
We tried 10 different pizza spots on our trip and Di Fara was by far the best. Yes, you'll have to wait. Yes, it is deep in Brooklyn. But I promise it is worth it. The crust was the thinnest, most crisp I've ever tasted. Its crisp even beats the top New Haven spots. I loved that they made the slices to order, not reheated. The ingredients were simple and fresh (they get everything from Italy). I have been dreaming about this pizza every day since our trip. The shop is exactly what you'd expect, very small and looks straight out of the 60s. The staff were so friendly and patient, the vibes of the place were excellent. There is a very large Orthodox Jewish population in the neighborhood. It was really cool to see so much culture and diversity. If you are a pizza fan of any kind, you absolutely have to make the trek to Di Fara. It's life changing!

Was a bit of a wait but well worth it. Go at night when there is no one for the best experience.

I was in town and drove here because of the old man's story on social media. My brother and I consider ourselves pizza experts. We went out of our way. First sign something was up - no lines, the front gate was up on an angle. Went inside and place was not clean. There were some strange looking people behind the counter. So I tell them I'm up from Florida raised in Brooklyn give me a pie and a square. $6 a square, $35 for the pie, I did not care this was the famous pizza. IT WAS TERRIBLE. I said no way so I googled the place and found out the old man had died a while ago. The old man is gone and so is his pizza.
Be the first to ReplyOverhyped and overpriced in my opinion.
Good pizza, but I've had better, and for a lot less money.
Be the first to ReplyBest Pizza I ever had.
The wait time is better now compared to the past when Domenic was the only one making the pizza May he RIP
Be the first to ReplyJust wanted to say - I do not recommend the square pie.
The crust was so so thick and the flavor was off. Maybe it was just a bad night but we were so disappointed. Regular crust only from Di Fara

What seems to be like a Brooklyn pizza institution that's been serving up pies since 1965 (I think?). I came here a few years ago and actually just came across these photos. Now, my review is through the eyes of a tourist. Which means I probably give it a bump based on my own wow factor.I have to say, though, the pizza is very good. The greasy pepperoni cups were delicious as well as the mushroom pizza that I got and the olive pizza. Is it the best pizza in Brooklyn? That's debatable and subjective, but I just have to say I really really enjoy the pizza here. Also, as a bonus, I had the benefit of Domenico himself (RIP) hand cutting basil and sprinkling it over my slices. When I was doing my research to get the "best pizza" in Brooklyn, this came up on a few lists. I'm glad I chose this one because right when I left my vehicle, it really just felt right. I can't really put it into words to give it justice, but as a Californian, this felt like what grabbing a Brooklyn slice should feel like. I've read that it took long to get your slice, but I also came during an off hour, so there was like zero line, so it didn't really matter. Ordering was easy - order at the counter and wait outside for your pizza. The place itself felt like an old school pizza joint with a neighborhood vibe. Essentially, I felt like I was getting some delicious Brooklyn pizza and eating a slice of history. Also, my condolences to the family because Dom just passed away in 2022. I truly cherish eating experiences like this one. This is why I like to do what I do when traveling
Be the first to ReplyThe best pizza in nyc in my opinion.
The wait time is super long , but I think is worth it if you have the time, this is my favorite pizza. The picture is the white cheese but I love the regular pie more.
Be the first to ReplyWas very disappointed in this location.
Came in and it was crowded. Waited on line for 30 plus minutes, until the people ahead of me gave up waiting. They took my order without telling me what the wait time would be. They seem to only focus on pies than slices. After 1 hour (on top of the 30 minutes) i finally received my 4 slices. Order was wrong. I ordered 2 sausage, 1 pepperoni and 1 plain, but I got 3 pepperoni and 1 plain. I wasnt about to go back and wait more time. I have to say, the flavor was ok, not the best but pretty good. But it was super soggy which was weird as it just came out of the oven. Their process on how they handle orders is primitive. Everything is hand written and then they place order boxes on top of each other to follow ordering sequence but that gets lost when a worker moves them around. In all, I cant give this place a higher rating due to, timeliness of order and process, lack of communication with customer, providng wrong order and sogginess of slices. I doibt I will come back again to try them, it was just too much of an epic inconvenience for 4 slices. Hope everyone else jas a better experience.

Pizza with eight flavors, prawn, mango, sausage, pineapple, pepper, olive, bacon, avocado, cheese These eight flavors are all good
Be the first to ReplyGreat pizza! This is an artisanal place.
That means you will wait sometimes. You can order by the slice and get a piece in a few (5-10 minutes), or you can order a whole pie and get it in 15-20 minutes. Either way, it is worth the wait. You will love this pizza!
Be the first to ReplyThe best NY slice I may have ever had.
Super small spot, so tough on seating, but highly recommend making a visit.

The best pizza place in NYC hands down! I would go back there every time I visit Brooklyn.
Be the first to ReplyThe place was pretty packed on a Tuesday afternoon.
Luckily, I was able to get a table. I got a square slice and a regular slice with pepperoni. Skip the square slice. There are better in the city. The crust and bread was just too hard despite the reheat. They have the base pie done ahead of time and just add the toppings on when you order. The pepperonis fell off the slice easily, so it was hard to eat it all together. The regular slice was super thin. The pepperonis curled into cups when they came out of the oven. Multitudes better than the square slice. Get this. The staff are really nice, and they treat you like one of your own even if you aren't a regular. They take card. However, there's a fee, so bring cash if you can. There are so many pizza places in NYC. Di Fara is good, but it's such a trek from everything else and has only one train line near it, that it's not a place I'd come back to often.
