Magical night, exquisite food, and memorable service.
This spot was terrific for a party of 11, celebrating my cousin's art exhibit 3 blocks away. I emailed the manager who arranged for an incredible 3-course dinner served family style -- oysters, steak, frites, salmon, spinach, and ice cream and beignets with caramel sauce for dessert. Magical night with memorable service.

The chicken was delicious, but I opted for a side salad instead of fries. The food was great, but it would have been even better with some music.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious breakfast and cozy !
Loved breakfast here every morning - so cozy on the cold days while we were there and good service! Thank you
Be the first to ReplyGreat brunch!!
The best pancakes ever!! Very nice brunch and very good service! The restaurant is very cozy and charming
Be the first to ReplyGood food good company
My wife loves to try new places to eat. I am a creature of habit ! Two words to stay married ( Yes Dear!) So we had reservations at a French Restaurant on Ludlow Street ( affiliated with the Ludlow Hotel) it had a nice ambiance. We were originally going to be seated “ outside” in an enclosed space but my wife felt it might be a bit cold. So we sat inside. I wanted to have french onion soup but surprisingly they don’t offer soup ( let alone french onion) We looked at the menu and then asked if there were any specials. Thankfully they had a scallop dish as one of the specials. I was sold! The others chose duck ala orange ( also one of the specials) . One of our Freinds had a fish dish ( from the regular menu) and another had a pork dish, one friend also ordered a polish sausage appetizer which disappeared almost as fast as it was served. I must say I am usually very critical of the food but this time everyone ( and I mean everyone) was extremely satisfied with their meals. The server was also quite attentive and our water glasses were kept filled! Overall a terrific evening!
Be the first to ReplyBreakfasts weren't that great
I had salad in lounge area a couple of times and that was delicious. Unfortunately the breakfasts at Dirty French were overcooked and dry.
Be the first to ReplyYOU MUST GO HERE 😍
We just by chance stumbled upon this absolute gem and honestly loved it so much!!! After walking in without any booking and with every table already being full we were kindly offered a spot at the bar for dinner - we actually loved sitting at the bar it added to the whole experience. The service was fantastic, genuinely from every single person we came across, the food was soooooo utterly delicious, the ambiance was brilliant, the wine gorgeous too! Honestly we could not fault one thing! It was the best service and whole experience we had in New York! Most certainly would recommend to anyone thinking of going and we most certainly will be back :)
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience
We'd read the reviews about bad service and I must say we couldn't have had better service. We didn't lack for attention and the food was spaced nicely. LOVED the music. Made for such a fun vibe and the food was wonderful also. Will be back!
Be the first to ReplyLame place with bad food and terrible service.
Lame atmosphere, bad service and even worse food. We dined here on a Saturday evening. The place was half full which is a bad sign to begin with. Our server was super slow and took forever with our drink order. The water waiters were plentiful but had no ability to actually help us. The salmon tasted so bad. And I am not a picky eater and rarely complain about anything. The only thing we enjoyed was the complementary naan. My sister had the mushroom. It was inedible. Don’t bother with this place there are many other better options.
Be the first to ReplyGood food but poor service
Hi expectations but the service was poor . A few eggs Benedict took almost an hour to come out . Food is good , really good waiting for it turned me off though
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Vibe and one of a kind experience!
Great service, food was pretty good. The vibe here was fabulous, the Dover Sole could be better - especially for the cost. $$$$$$ - special ocasions!
Be the first to ReplyGood neighborhood restaurant
Food was awesome- had the burger and fries. Service was excellent. Gave it a 4 because we went there after a show around 10:15pm and the place was almost empty. No real vibe going on at that time. I would not consider this a destination place. If you are in the area or staying at the hotel definitely go. But don’t trek across town just to dine there.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food great atmosphere
I love this neighborhood restaurant. The butter lettuce salad, hanger steak, salmon and flourless chocolate cake were all delicious. The servers were attentive and the atmosphere is lively. They are really attentive to food allergies, and have GF bread. I been several times and will come back soon!
Be the first to ReplyA longtime favorite on the LES
I have been drinking and dining here since they first opened and the restaurant continues to make me happy. Excellent cocktails, breakfast, lunch and dinner menus that will satisfy and delight and a solid wine list. I eat here every time that I visit NYC (and stay at The Ludlow Hotel).
Be the first to ReplyOnly had breakfast
Food was pretty good, coffee was not great. The croissant used in the egg sandwich was very flaky delicious.
Be the first to ReplyDirty French Restaurant at The Ludlow Hotel, NYC
I've eaten at The Ludlow Hotel's in-house restaurant, Dirty French, many times while staying at the hotel. The food and service are exceptional, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and inviting.
Be the first to ReplyNothing from France
Very bad. Not french, maybe german...
The fois grais full of cognac flavour. The pork, like the bavarian style even with sourkraut.
Not good
Non-responsive establishment!!!
It is impossible to speak with anyone at Dirty French or Carbone & no one responds to emails either. Customer experience = 0. If this is representative of their attention to detail before I even dine there, don’t waste your time patronizing their overpriced restaurants.
Be the first to Replyoverpriced - we had to wait more than half hour for the mash potato or any sides
The main reason I will not recommend this place is because of their manager - Jeffrey Chouinard - he is bullish and not polished at all - he is more like a doorman who should not be running a restaurant - when we asked for help he responded in a very rude manner as if we were a bother - I work for the hotel industry and I know about hospitality - I will not be sending any of my owners to this place so long as he (the bull ) Jeffrey is there.
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere, great food, great service
Such a nice night out. We went on the earlier side and had reservations. So glad we made them ahead of time because there was no getting in without one. Great cocktails too! Definitely recommending!
Be the first to ReplyDirty French – A Misleading Name
The restaurant is nothing as the name may suggest or one would assume. It is a sophisticated French Restaurant / Bistro in Manhattan.
A formal attire is not compulsory, but one should be smartly dressed (no casual); being hungry is required.
Delicately made appetizers, entrees, delicious main courses and an impressive collection of wines, cocktails and other liquors.
We had salmon with peppercorns, grilled oysters, Cajun shrimps as appetizers and hanger steak, scallops and roasted chicken thereafter (there were six of us). I don’t remember the French names of the dishes, but the taste lingered. The menu is limited but the quality and the finesse in plating is captivating.
These are the difficult times, one needs to wait till the earlier normalcy returns or the “new normal” takes over.
I am sure the food, ambience and experience will be as good as in the past.
Racially Profiled
This is the first time I’ve ever felt racially profiled in New York City. I would love to be able to review at least the coffee at this place, but unfortunately the staff actively neglected my presence after 30 minutes of sitting and trying to flag down some service. Even a direct wave and “excuse me” didn’t get their attention.
I came here around 5pm on a Sunday with my husband. The place was not busy at all with empty tables everywhere. We decided to sit in the Greenhouse area outdoor in the back. He sat in his own area because I needed a table to do some work. Around us, people were served wine, looking at menus, having coffee, and enjoying their space. There were 4 servers working and none of them greeted us, acknowledged us, or even gave either of us a menu. I observed all of them cleaning tables and making sure everyone else was taken care of, all the while wondering why I could t get any service. Then I realized why — everyone was white except for us. Want to know how I came to that conclusion? We were sitting at different tables and neither of us were waited on. Then a group of non-POCs came in to sit... guess how immediate they received service from TWO different servers?!?
I complained to the management and his excuse was that he was new. So what’s everyone else’s excuse? He offered me a free cup of coffee, but you know what... a free latte does not excuse your blatant racism.
I don’t recommend this place to any person of color. This is appalling and unacceptable. Shame on you Dirty French.
Dont give them your credit card
They asked for a credit card to secure the check so we could “open our table” as we weren’t hotel guests.
As I asked for the check they charged the whole amount on one card at a table of 5 people.
They didn’t even ask. That’s not a polite move.
🙅🏼♂️
Perfection
Located on the Lower East Side in the Ludlow Hotel. Perfect in every way from location, staff, and the food was flawless.
Be the first to ReplyThanksgiving dinner
Staying with a friend in New York for the holiday so booked dinner here as we wanted a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Had a fantastic meal, great quality food, good mixture of dishes and very tasty. An enjoyable atmosphere and attentive but not rushed service was perfect for what we were looking for. Reasonable prices too for the occasion.
Would definitely recommend.
