Rating is for the food.
I ordered the pork dish which arrived undercooked and the meat was pink in the middle. Also ordered the tarte au citron which was cold and tasted like the way a fridgerator smells. Bread service was decent, deviled eggs, pommes Louis and truffle mac and cheese were tasty. Service was attentive until the dinner rush arrived and once crowded, we were left hanging and dinner dragged. The maitre d's, servers, bussers, and front of staff work hard for sure, so I give them lots of credit. They stand to have 1 or 2 more servers on the floor. Would I come back? Probably not. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. Very middle of the road. Ambiance is fine, classic bistro look inside of the Ludlow Hotel. The music playlist was too loud and random. Paul Simon and Aerosmith? Pick the right vibe.
Be the first to ReplyThis remains one of my favorite restaurants in the city.
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, food is delicious and beautifully presented, and the cocktails are not watered down. My favorite drink is the Bellmondo. So good. It's hard to choose a favorite appetizer or entree from the menu, as everyone is so good. The best thing to do, is to go with a group and share plates. A few of my favorite starters are the lamb carpaccio and tuna tartare. It seems odd to rave about a salad, but both the kale and the endive salads are exceptional. There are several wonderful chicken dishes on the menu. A fun one is the chicken with crepes. The others are good too. The steak was one of the best I've had, but my favorite was probably the dover, so beautifully seasoned with Moroccan spices. One of the most unique vegetable dishes on the menu remains a personal favorite ~ the Miele feuille mushroom dish. So good! If you have room for dessert, there are some nice options ~ the creme brulee is a favorite, as is the sorbet. There is also a lovely cheese and guava jam plate. You won't be disappointed, regardless of what you order. Bon appetit!
Be the first to ReplyAmbiance 4/5 Beautiful, but tables are small.
Food 3/5 It was good, just not spectacular, and definitely not worth the price. Drinks 3/5 Good, nothing special. 4 people $350.. yikes.. a bit crazy. It was a nice dinner but not worth the price
Be the first to ReplyEverything at this place is incredible.
The food, drinks, and atmosphere is incredible - but more than anything - THE PEOPLE. I highly suggest everyone come here and ask for Pamela (with the braids). Authentic, engaging, weird, and brilliant. Makes for an experience unlike something you will get anywhere else. Will become a regular spot. Pamela is one of a f*cking kind. Give that girl an Oscar we love her. Love this place but love Pamela more.. ASK FOR HER

My friend and I came here for dinner the other night as she mentioned she had been before, and always enjoyed the food. We made a reservation for 8:30pm, but we were able to be seated earlier, which was great. We ordered the little gem salad, the truffle Mac and Cheese and the Duck (which my friend was very excited about). They came by with this amazing fluffy bread and dip before our food came out, and I was contemplating ordering another one because it was that good. The restaurant itself is very dimly lit and has a sexy vibe, so great for catching up with a friend or two or for a date night. Would definitely come back here again!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service amazing food.
At first I was a bit turned off when we came in. We had 6:15 reservations we 15/20 min walk here (I am super pregnant) arrived at 6pm. Restaurant wasn't even full it was empty... they had us wait in the lounge. We were seated at 6;15 and our server PAMELA turned everything around!! Pamela is a phenomenal server!! She just made our dinner experience 10x better!! She went above and beyond everything.
Be the first to ReplyVery good.
Staff is great. I was so lost and felt out of place but they made me feel welcomed and had suggestions for me. Will be returning.
Be the first to Reply5 star ALL ARIUND! Service was above and beyond.
Food was great and the ambiance was perfect.

I dream about the mushroom Meuille feuille here - it's that good! They rotate the sauces for it and I've tried the green curry which is amazing. The duck a l'orange is also *chefs kiss*. A smaller portion but perfect crispness to the skin and the sauce is wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyWe had their Christmas dinner and it was excellent.
All of the dishes are also on their normal menu: tuna tartare, oysters bourgignon, kale salad, filet mignon, and the two desserts, chocolate cake and lemon tart. The cocktails were also delicious and creative.

Part of Major Food Group, I went to this popular bistro with one of my usual groups to have their famous duck a l'orange and share a bunch of other other things. The space was nice and the service was friendly with good suggestions. I ordered a cocktail and the waiter came back and said that the menu had unfortunately changed and told me the current selections also saying that I could try a drink first to see if I like it which was very nice. I got the One Way Street ($18) with cognac, pineau, and golden raisin to drink. This was a delicious with a cognac base and good fruity elements but not overly sweet and I would recommend it.We were given the Flatbread With Fromage Blanc to begin with. Compared to most other modern restaurants where you have to pay for their nice bread, it was good to see that this place still serves theirs as part of the meal for free. This was a good starting bite albeit potentially a bit rich. The fresh warm flatbread paired nicely with the cheese. From the hors d'ouevres section, the Mushroom Millefeuille ($29) with butternut squash and red curry was delicious. The mushrooms were thin sliced and had a pleasant plumpness with a slightly crispy texture with the slightly sweet and herbal red curry being a good accompaniment. I am unsure the mushroom used but I have virtually 0 complaints about the dish. From the Plat Principal, their Duck A L'orange (I believe $49) was shared between two. The duck was crispy though I have had others which were more succulent with a better skin texture. The orange sauce however was outstanding. Not overly sweet and very well seasoned. My only complaint about said sauce would be perhaps that that there wasn't enough of it as a few of the pieces. From the same section, the Steak Au Poivre ($39 base with various prices) or steak with green peppercorn sauce was probably the weakest of the dishes. We got it with hanger steak without the frites so at the lowest price point. The steak was a bit small for the price and it could have been a bit more tender (even with it being hanger steak) but the peppercorn sauce was very well prepared. It's hard to recommend however with the portion size and with the slightly chewy pieces even with the excellent sauce. This is a quality French bistro with some protein issues. While the quality of the sauces are on point for the prices, I would say the actual meat (outside of the mushroom dish) was a bit lower quality compared to some other places which are a bit cheaper. The duck was a big drier than other spots and the steak was both small and a bit chewy. If the protein was as well prepared as their excellent sauces, I'd probably give a 5 but overall I'm stick with a 4.
Be the first to ReplyMy boyfriend and I went here for his birthday.
The staff was very friendly and were fantastic throughout the experience. We ordered oysters as an appetizer , and for our main entrees Ny strip and mushroom millefeuille. The steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned very well. The mushroom millefeuille was OUTSTANDING. For desert we ordered lemon cake, which was also very good.It reminded me very much of a traditional french restaurant in Paris. We live close by and will be back!

I will give a hundred start to this place just for their pancakes. They also make a mean espresso martini. Beautiful old school decor and lovely place for brunch. It was so easy to get a table! The Benedict was nothing to rave about but pretty standard. Note/warning: one side of bacon is huge and is good for 3-4 people actually They don't bug you to leave when you are done (may be because they were empty that day but still) Overall, great joint especially if you get a 2-4 h wait time from the surrounding more popular joints. Will I go back? Heck, yes, and have pancakes and espresso martinis.

Delicious food and lovely ambiance! My boyfriend booked this spot for our 3 year anniversary and it was perfect. The bread and cheese that was served was SO good, we asked for more. i ordered the mussels etoiffe. We were also given complementary champagne to celebrate. The cocktails were also really good/not too sweet.
Be the first to ReplyService was terrible.
Absolutely terrible. Which is a shame because the hotel and the staff of the hotel were amazing. This review is not a reflection of the Ludlow Hotel and their staff. I was celebrating my anniversary and wanted to purchase a bottle of champagne. I walked up and spoke with the bartender (Asian Woman, didn't have a name tag) I asked politely if she could recommend a champagne or sparkling wine, I described in detail of what I was looking for. The two choices she provided were not good and I asked if she could recommend perhaps another one, at that point she threw her hands up and said loudly "I don't know what you want" I was surprised at this outburst and said I am sorry about any misunderstanding but I provided you a description and it's ok if you can't recommend anything, I'll just try the Rose. She doesn't respond and walks away at this point I just stood up and left. Luckily someone at the hotel staff saw what was happening and apologized and sent a complimentary bottle of champagne to our room which we appreciate. I understand that people have bad days but that's no excuse for you to take out your frustration on innocent people. I hope the management can provide coaching and help her with her soft skills.
Be the first to Replywhat a difference nearly a decade has made.
i remember having to plead with a reservationist (on a phone!) and "winning" a late night slot for our dinner, where they couldn't even seat us on time, and bounced us around different tables, until they were able to accommodate our reservation. no one would put up with that now, and no one does. after moving to brooklyn, i've been everywhere from aska to le crocodile, from st. anselm to gage and tollner, so expectations aren't as low as they were. but...we were truly bowled over by the exploded french flea market decor on our first trip here, as well as all the food. but ... time has passed now. we have resy now. dirty french isn't exactly the hottest spot in town anymore. our meal, last night, was special in its own way, but it noticeably lacked the blinding transcendence of our first meal here, many years ago.I love this strip of ludlow street, and I still find the decor of DF to be unique and quite pretty. the lobby lounge outside is beautiful too, their bathrooms resemble the labyrinthine underground tunnels of an old keith mcnally joint, and they use red flower hand wash/cream products. nice touch.everyone was friendly. and the food? very good. the gem salad was delicious, and interesting. it is, in a sense, drowned in that punk-ranch dressing, but it's good. the oysters bourguignon were delicious. i was curious to try the pommes louis, after hearing an intriguing description from our server, but no go...at 7:45, they were already sold out. huh.the chicken crepes for two is really good, and remains the restaurant's shining star, kind of like getting the whole duck at williamsburg's francie, it's probably why you should come. the chicken is delicious, and they do give you the whole chicken. the white meat is sliced, the dark meat comes on the bone in a different bowl, and you get a dish of tasty accompaniments.i think they need twice the crepes for this dish to truly transcend time and space, like they intend, but it is really yummy, and decadent, but the bread (really, nan) that they give you with the boursin butter at the beginning of the meal almost makes up for the lack of crepes (I think you get only three, wuh woh).what's going on with the service?? i must have read through the menu half a dozen times, opening and closing the damn thing, before a waiter ever approached our table to take drink orders. the sommelier seemed noticeably indifferent to us, and to our bottle of wine. in the middle of our meal, a random glass of vodka was placed in front of my face."this isn't mine," i told the man. i got a response along the lines of (and not really paraphrasing here) "i don't know, just drink it."uh. ok.when the waiter approached at the end of our meal and asked if we wanted to order dessert wine, we quietly asked, "whatever happened to our bottle of wine??" (it was supposed to be "on ice" lol).the waiter scurried off and re-appeared with our bottle, more than a quarter full. this is the end of our meal now, yiiiikkkkkessssss. "sorry," he said, and i realized this was maybe the third or fourth apology we'd received for something. the somm obviously never bothered to inform the server we had a bottle of wine, a communication lapse more akin to a roadside diner than a major food group restaurant.anyway. nice to be back, but i've grown too, it seems, and i'm not as easily impresed as i once was.
Be the first to ReplyTried this place last night for a friend's bday dinner.
We missed our reservation time because of traffic and they still accommodated us. The staff was very nice and attentive and made stellar recommendations. I ordered the grilled oysters, and scallop cru for apps and they were phenomenal. Ordered the chicken with spinach and fritters as my sides. Was a hit bummed they didn't have the roasted potatoes in duck fat but got over that very quickly. My only negative is that the beignets were a B in a meal of A+s
Be the first to ReplyIt had been a while since I've been here.
Incredible food, attentive staff...and don't get me started on the bread with cheese...hard to stop eating it! Will continue to come here!
Be the first to ReplyMade a reservation to celebrate my birthday as we were
Made a reservation to celebrate my birthday as we were going out in the area. As we were a bigger group, we got to try a bit of everything. The cocktails are very good! I had the L'Échappé Belle (tequila, strawberry, tangerine) and it was delicious (also came on fire, which was pretty fun). My friends were also very happy with their drinks. For starters we tried the complimentary bread which is FANTASTIC, lamb carpaccio (so good), tartare (fresh and had an interesting mix of spices) and the mushroom milefeuille (a bit disappointed as I was very excited to try this. The curry sauce is great but I don't feel like everything was coming together and the mushrooms lacked seasoning). For main course I had the hanger steak au poivre - right temperature, great sauce. Our table ordered a bunch of sides: the mashed potatoes were so silky and delicious, dirty rice was the unexpected favorite and even the green beans were great. There is no birthday without dessert, so we tried the beignets and the chocolate cake, both very good choices. We finished our amazing dinner with espresso martinis. Aside from the great food and ambiance, the service was top notch and we never felt rushed to order and leave, which I really appreciated - we had so much fun!
Be the first to ReplyReally disappointed by this place.
I'm a big fan of other Major Food Group restaurants and this one just didn't impress. Firstly, the decor in this place was lacking. Every other MFG restaurant I've been to has gone over the top with decor, it almost feels like your being transported into a perfectly designed world/setting. The theme is clear and you feel like you're apart of the story they're telling. Dirty French on the other hand very much just felt like a standard hotel restaurant, which I guess in reality it is. The food was also extremely underwhelming. I started off with the Little Gem salad, which was a large serving (definitely enough for 2-4). The dressing almost tasted like a fancy ranch which I enjoyed. The crispy shallots were also a nice touch. This was probably the best thing I consumed, besides the free bread that comes at the start of the meal. For my main course I had the Chicken Persillade and Pommes Louis. The chicken arrived lukewarm, and the sauce had a strange consistency. The flavor was overwhelmingly garlicky, and there wasn't much else to the dish. The chicken had an okay texture but was a little stiff. The Pommes Louis was also unremarkable. The potatoes had a pleasant fatty flavor, but they were inconsistently cooked, some pieces being overly crispy, some soggy. The potatoes also come with garlic sprinkled on top, which didn't seem to incorporate well. It seems like the menu relies heavily into garlic to save the day. The one thing I will give this restaurant credit for it the service. Everyone was super friendly, attentive, and kind. Overall I think there are much better places to have not only French food, but a meal priced this highly in New York. I would not recommend going out of your way for this one.
Be the first to ReplyGreat bar, great music , great service.
The food was mediocre and overpriced. Like the bar better than the dining room
Be the first to ReplyHad a great dinner here with a friend.
I tried:+ Lilikoi cocktail + Ludlow gimlet+ Lamb carpaccio+ Bone marrow aigre doux+ mushroom millefuille+ Little gem salad + Oysters bourguignon + Mussels etouffee+ Pommes frites + Lemon tart + Chocolate gauteuxMy favorite cocktail was the lilikoi one, though the gimlet was also great. Little gem salad and lemon tart were my favorite dishes, though everything was super tasty. The only letdown was the mussels, which were nothing special. Service was also amazing - they brought us the mushroom millefuille on the house!4.5 stars.

Amazing! The type of restaurant that's still worth for your money in NY! Too many places in town that have been leaving me disappointed post COVID but Dirty French continues to keep up. Maybe the best burger in town? With raclette cheese inside. The chicken and crepes was amazing as well but for me the star was the duck. One of the best ducks I had since I came back from France, perfectly cooked! The only thing could use some improvement are the cocktails, specially the martini but besides this everything was great !

We did the fixed menu for Valentine's and had a wonderful time. The server was Pamela and she was fantastic. The support staff were also attentive and personable. I started with a Muddy Waters cocktail which was a nice twist on the Sazarac - very well done. We started with the chèvre salad, grilled oysters and tartare - all very good, the tartare our least favorite but I enjoyed the heat from the spices, my husbands favorite was the sauce from the oysters and the chèvre salad. He had the hangar steak au poivre which was cooked to absolute perfection - medium rare and I had the salmon which was good but not as good as the steak. The pomme frites and haricots vert were a nice accompaniment. I had the Chablis with dinner which was nice and crisp. My husband had the Pilsner which he enjoyed. The meal was finished with lemon and chocolate desserts. Both were delicious. This is now my new fav French restaurant in NYC!

"Guess who's back? Back again!" -- Eminem, "Without Me"So I said that I'd be picking up the pace with these reviews, and I failed. But now post-omicron/delta, I am back for good. It may take some time to get a rhythm going again. Klay Thompson doesn't go on hot streaks with 3-5 minutes a time.Dirty French is a questionably named -- yet ambiguously so -- French restaurant that's attached to a swanky hotel. The decor is a mishmash of influences: Nic Cage's "National Treasure" franchise (a random sphinx is placed near the ceiling), midnight bistro decor, and upscale bar. We had the mussels, chicken, pommes puree, and the tuna tartare, plus bargain-rate deviled eggs. All were amazing except the tartare, which was oppressively overspiced and clouds out the taste of the fish. I also highly recommend getting the desert. Go for the beignets. We ordered them and a more standard chocolate cake, and I anthropormorphized (sp) the cake and felt sorry for how poorly it stacked up against the exciting beignets.
