Do not look any further and book a table!
One of those experiences you will hardly forget, one of the best Japanese I’ve ever had! Atmosphere, quality, freshness, service, everything was outstanding! Do not look any further and book a table, you won’t regret it!

You can always tell that a restaurant must be good when the majority of the customers are from the origin country of the restaurant. Better still when the demographic is mainly young New Yorkers you know this must a a great place to eat. We did the classic Sushi and Hand Roll Course at $49 and it was faultless. The 9 piece chef’s selection of Sushi was absolute perfection, as was the Shrimp Tempura. All rounded off with the Matcha Ice Cream with Red Bean Paste. Such a big recommendation and not crazy expensive.

I came here with close friend who is a former Bachelorette superstar, so we were treated like royalty. The superstar was late as she is on superstar time, so I checked us in for our res and ordered a Sapporo. Whenever I hit Domodomo, I don't go too sushi heavy because I LOVE their entrees with all of my being. There is comparable (likely even better) sushi in the city but when it comes to those entrees, Domodomo is top 2 and it's not 2. PRO TIP: Even if you don't like oysters, the Oyster bar is head and shoulders the best seating/ambiance in the place, maybe my favorite in NYC as a whole. There is a large skylight looking down on an elegant minimalist interior. ELITE date setting fellas ¯_(ツ)_/¯ For food, me and the superstar shared the following: King Salmon & Fatty Tuna nigiri (Both elite), Shrimp Tempura handroll (THE MANGO WENT CRAZY!), Spicy Tuna handroll (Yum), Cauliflower (A must have), Miso Black Cod (Very good), Shrimp Dumplings (Elite), and the Garlic bacon fried rice (BANG!). The highlight was the shrimp tempura handroll, as the mango on top really did something to me. I love trying things that I think would be terrible but end up being immaculate. Everyone needs to experience that at least once. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Amazing atmosphere! Very intimate - hidden spot. Amazing sushi and oysters. Chicken options are amazing too! The champagne was a great touch. Definitely will go again.

We are sushi enthusiasts and it seemed like the right place, even reading the reviews. In all honesty I would say nothing exceptional, the restaurant is welcoming but the food I would say is good but not exceptional. Experienced, but I wouldn't repeat it.

we cam here for dinner without reservations, big mistake. We waited over an hour, but it was worth it. The food here is delicious and the service was perfect. This is a small place so if you want to go make sure and have a reservation!

DOMODOMO was really delicious. We ordered tobiko noodles and cucumber salad to share for the table. The cucumber salad has great dressing and tasted really fresh, and the Tobiko noodle was a great fusion dish to have with crab meat. All the hand rolls we ordered was also really delicious and kept us full. Would also recommend the scallop risotto if you prefer hot food. For dessert we also ordered the matcha ice cream and black sesame panna cotta.

This was our first trip to Domodomo, but not the last one. The Omakase was perfect, the sushi was a great combination of a range of seafood and the handrolls were worth the visit alone.

3 things wrong with what we got- Miso soup didn’t taste any miso The fish on the sushi was so thick No wasabi to the sushi (???) not under the fish or on the side. Then they said we needed to ask for it, but we where halfway through Pretty basic stuff. And who the hell eats sushi without wasabi, please stop eating sushi if you are this person.

Best Sushi restaurant in NYC! Omg the sushi are all fresh and everything taste good!! Location: It is located in Houston St. The interior is very intimate, but you can wear casual. I wear scrubs (coming from work, im a nurse). Lot of seatings and there is a bar. Service: our server was nice, explains well the sushi that we are eating. The girl in the front desk looked at me and my friend because we are wearing scrubs as if she does not want us to enter. Food: you have to order DOMAKASE! It has everything that you need to eat here! Lol everything is good! My faves are TUNA CONE: omg so good, the spicy mayo is inside the cone as if that is the ice cream and tuna is just so fresh on top. ROASTED CAULIFLOWER: cauliflower never tasted this good, and you can eat the green pea miso spread on its own, that is how good it is. SCALLOP RISOTTO: omg this was the bomb! It will be cooked in front of you! It taste like paella but so much better! KABAYAKI: omg the seabass is sweet as if you are not eating a fish! DONBURI: even though the daikon soup is just a little bit, the wagyu don is soo good! CHEF’s CHOICE SUSHI: everything was delicious and fresh, im not sure the names are but they all good, my favorite was the toro sushi. SPICY TUNA HANDROLL: so good too! Not that spicy. CRABMEAT with CRUNCH SEAWEED: reminds me of tacos because of the crunch! BLACK SESAME PANNA COTTA: my fave cause the black sesame has earthy taste and the panna cotta is so silky smooth. HOJICHA PUDDING: taste like tea and the pudding was so soft, melts in the mouth. PEACH LYCHEE: omg so good, the sake is little bit strong but the combination of the peach and lychee is perfect. WATERMELON COOLER: so refreshing and light. Price rating: 8/10, thats the only thing cause its Michelin Restaurant it will be expensive, but it is so good! Definitely will come back here! If it is your first time go for DOMOKASE. Get the scallop risotto too!

Sat down with my father at a table and ordered two “Domokase” menus. First dish comes and it is composed of 3 different tastings: a spoon with raw flounder and soy sauce which is wasn’t bad even though felt like it had just came out of the freezer, being so cold could hardly taste the fish. The second was an Oyster with yuzu foam and ikura (very appealing idea) unfortunately the only thing you could taste was the yuzu foam, how to ruin an Oyster or as I suspect purposely adding so much foam to cover the bad quality oyster. The third item was a small ice cream cone with raw tuna, truffle oil and the bottom cap was filled with this spicy Mayo that just ruined the whole combination and was nauseating. The second dish of the tasting menu arrives and it is a steamed cod with pumpkin purée and mustard seeds, the mustard seeds and the pumpkin purée had nothing to do with the steamed cod which by the way wasn’t bad at all. Third dish comes, wagyu with rice, daikon soup and pickled cauliflower. Wagyu slice was so thin it could probably float and just tasted like soy sauce, probably wasn’t even wagyu or maybe just a bad quality of American wagyu. Pickled cauliflower tasted like it just came out of a jar and the soup was ok, nothing special. Then the sushi course arrives which I had high hopes for instead was a TOTAL FAILURE… they clearly focused so much on sophistication’s forgetting about the basics on how to prepare sushi. The rice part of the nigiri seemed all pre made, dry and super cold, it was almost impossible dipping the fish part in the soy sauce without the whole nigiri coming apart. Worst sushi rice of my life. Too much wasabi dabs under every piece of fish. Every piece of fish was so ice cold that everything tasted the same and was totally OFF. Spicy tomato and cream cheese on the salmon nigiri was an item. Partially cooked salmon on nigiri, and I said partially cooked and not seared, every combination possibile was a total failure. The uni piece of sushi which was from Maine, the lowest grade of sea urchin possible, they topped it off with fake truffle pieces definetely from a jar and was disgusting. The final item on the menu came and it was a choice of 1 out of 10/15 hand rolls. We both got the “toro” fatty tuna, didn’t even tasted like Toro and was completely minced from being chopped up, very bad sign, not being good and being completely blending up probably the excess fat parts of the fish the usually good restaurant throw away. We told our waiter what was going on and she told us to speak to the owner/manager, while our waiter was a very nice young girl, the manager wasn’t even close to being the same. Very tall young man who instead of trying to understand the situation got very defensive telling us that we had already consumed the food and practically “that was it” telling us that the fish is supposed to be cold etc etc clearly not willing to listen with a very arrogant tone. 200 dollars completely thrown down the drain, by the way I the sushi wasn’t even Japanese. The funny thing is that they are in the Michelin Guide, I wonder how did that happen. Seems more like a place you would find on the “Place to Forget Guide”

At one time New York city had over 24,000 restaurants. After Covid there are much less. Domodomo is a refreshing addition. Unique, delicious, satisfying, and memorable. Well worth every penny you pay to eat in any restaurant in NY. So why waste your time and money on lesser places. I guarantee you will feel the same as I did after dining here.

If you are looking for a bento box or cut maki rolls, Domo is not the place. But they do have delicious fried Korean chicken and hand rolls that are designer quality. We had both. The only thing I didn't care for was that they charged extra for white rice and we had a bit of a wait for service. Otherwise, food delicious while being very fancy.

Our party of 6 came in on a Friday night with an 8 pm reservation. We all ordered the Sushi and Handroll Course (choice of tuna or salmon sashimi, Chef's Choice sushi 8 pieces, assorted, seasonal, and 2 handrolls - $45). I went with the tuna sashimi and I enjoyed it. For the 8 pieces, these were tuna, flounder, salmon, branzino, fatty toro, yellowtail, butterfish, and scallop. Most of the pieces were a bit disappointing. I guess I just expected more. Fatty tuna is usually my favorite, but this one missed the mark. My favorites were actually the flounder and the butterfish - probably because this isn't served a lot at sushi restaurants, so it was a nice change of pace. For the handroll, I went with the yellowtail scallion and the tuna - no complaints there.
Definitely not my favorite spot for higher quality sushi. Plus, we all left still feeling hungry. Ended up ordering cheese fries at the bar we went to. Even though this experience was meh, I still do want to check out the Rawbar. The menu looks pretty good, and I have high hopes. Let's just hope that it lives up.
Amazing sushi lunch value
Typical decor and service and somewhat limited selection at lunch let’s them focus on quality and value. For $16-18 you can get a full spread of top notch sushi (5 pieces) plus a hand roll (today’s special was spicy tuna), a small miso soup, cabbage salad with a delicious dressing, a warm egg custard and a small bite of something fried that was delicious. My friend got a couple of hand rolls and an order of blue fin tuna (2 pieces) which was also great but not as good a value at $25. This place is Michelin Bib Gourmand Awardee for the last 3 years for good reason. I’ll go back again soon!
Be the first to ReplyGood service, ambience and beer
Good experience overall. We had no reservation so went as soon as Domodomo opened for dinner and was given a bar seating, to be vacated in an hour and a half (very reasonable). The course was good, small portions so you won’t be overly full from any one of them, though after the course you’ll be full. We shared the course and had ordered a hot plate. All are meant to be shared so none of them are a full entree size. Korean fried chicken was good, sweet, not spicy. Desserts were small and excellent. Service was very nice. Interesting Japanese craft beer selection - got Kagua and would get it again.

nice spot for lunch
probably lacks a little vibe for it to be a rommantic or date spot for dinner.
Sushi excellent - fish firm and delicious..
Rolls come as full rolls - i.e. not sliced
Delicious tea
Plenty of sake on hand.
Place is immaculate, fairly priced and service is professional and courteous.
Not sure it was "memorable" (I has lunch with Angelique) but very servicable.
