Amazing dinner
Absolutely delicious dinner and world class service. We did the 5 course tasting menu and it did not disappoint. A very nice touch was bottomless bottled spring or sparkling water. Also the bread service with an avocado butter was to die for. Our favorite courses were the cauliflower and desert courses. Some of the best food Iโve ever had. And the price for 5 courses was only $85. Absolute value. Weโll be back.

We enjoyed top notch service from the moment we arrived early for our reservation. The professional staff was on top of every detail. The food was beautifully prepared and very tasty although a bit too salty for our taste. The wines, grown locally, married well with our courses. A definite keeper. They are working on gaining a Michelin star and we think they are worthy today.

Beautiful surprise in the heart of a beautiful town. If you got to Solvang you probably know that you're in a special place. Why don't you upgrade that "special" feel with some amazing food served with the most authentic smile? Been there at the sixth of October. The waitress was alone with her boss, managing the place. I wouldn't have felt it if she didn't joke about it. She was like a storm between the tables, and he was there the all time helping and waiting the tables himself. Felt like me and my wife got all the attention we could get. They were charming and the food.... was just great. A wonderful evening.

We had a lovely fine dining meal, with excellent service and very well prepared food. The fresh bread with avocado butter was a la carte, but worth it. We also shared a Cauliflower appetizer that had a variety of interesting flavors and textures. Our main courses were a local sea bass, and a risotto, both excellent.

The menu is quite short here but the food they serve is very nice and well prepared and presented. The staff are attentive and friendly. There was a delay between serving the starter and the main course but the restaurant is comfortable and cozy so that didn't matter. Fairly priced for the quality of the fare.

I normally wouldnโt bother to write negative reviews but Iโll make an exception in this instance. Made a reservation and was placed in front of the ice machine to wait and โhave a glass of wineโ whilst the table was getting ready (in 5-10 minutes). Fascinating to observe the ice machine in motion as nobody came out to take an order for a โglass of wineโ. Reminded them that we were waiting - got a slightly condescending look for stressing them a bit. Asked to wait for a minute or two whilst the table was getting ready. Then got offered a table inside. At which point the experience had been so underwhelming that we decided to leave. Iโm sure that the food is ok should you decide to dine with them, but the experience we had was very much below par.

Service was very slow, we spent close to an hour and a half for dinner. We started with fresh bread with avocado butter, the bread was good but the avocado butter didn't have much flavor. My wife had the Potato Leek Bisque which was good and she loved the presentation. She had the duck and I had the scallops Special. My scallops were flavorless and were served on a bed of succotash, which I didn't eat. My wife's duck was tasty but cold. For dessert, I had the wine cake and the wife had Chocolate and Honey. Wine cake was very disappointing, it was a mini cupcake with a small scoop of ice cream on a bed of banana. I was told to be careful, because the cake was hot, it wasn't, it didn't have much flavor. I seemed like they sliced a banana, microwaved a tiny bland cupcake on top and put a scoop of ice cream on it, then drizzeled a little chocolate on top. The Chocolate & Honey was a scoop of mousse and some honeycomb sprinkled on top. The iced tea was the most unique iced tea that I ever had at a restaurant. It was a black tea but there wee some other flavors there too, a little sweet. I liked it. I realize that there a few nice places to eat dinner in Solvang, but I don't know how this placed was Michelin rated based on my experience.

Who knew that you could have such a first class dinner in our dear little Solvang. I was afraid to find a restaurant that would meet the standards of my classy ladies group from Newport Beach, CA...most had never heard of Solvang. We had an awesome dinner with wine pairings and could even be picky about which wines we wanted MORE of...and the food ----- what the heck was that Roasted Cauliflower dish???? Whipped Cauliflower, truffle & chive Vinaigrette, Crisp quinoa, macron almonds and golden raisins - TO DIE FOR!!
Be the first to ReplyRomantic Dinner Spot in Solvang
Solvang is such a tourist spot, but First & Oak did not feel that way. Inside a nice old hotel, the inside dining area had all the tables well spread out with Covid considerations. We went and started with the potato & leek bisque which was very good. For the main course we had the lamb loin, a full rack of lamb and the rabbit ravioli. I found the sauce very good on the ravioli, but over powered the rabbit in my opinion. The corkage fee was a high $30. Before tip, the total came out to $161. This is a great choice for a high end romantic dinner in Solvang. We also had dinner at the Gathering Table in the Ballard Hotel, for two similar experiences. Both were very good, but the Gathering Table was less expensive and also a romantic choice.
Be the first to ReplyNew Years Eve Fiasco
Received a call at 9:30 pm the night before New Years eve that our reservation (made weeks ago) had to be canceled because of a Covid exposure. Though I can completely sympathize that something like an exposure is out of someone's control, the way the restaurant handled it was disappointing. Only offered "suggestions" for places to attempt to get a reservation for dinner. Of course all places were booked. It was too last minute to cancel our hotel without paying a fee. When something this inconvenient happens on a busy day for restaurants, I wish they would have done more. For example, maybe calling other restaurants in the area to explain what had happened. Instead I had to call around and I'm sure no one believed a word I was saying because people always lie to get a last minute reservation on a holiday (I know first hand). Or at least offer a complimentary dessert. Something! Anything at all. I'm giving them two stars instead of one, because a wonderful woman named Michelle was kind enough to search in the area to try and find something. The place she found didn't work out, but I'm grateful to her for putting in that effort. She was incredibly patient and obliging. However, I shouldn't have had to call and complain to get the help. And I'm sure she was plenty busy dealing with all that was going on. This place has amazing food. Excellent service otherwise. Despite what happened I wish them the best this New Year. I hope everyone gets healthy soon.
