Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar Fourth Avenue San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
A bit disappointed honestly.
Some key details that used to bring me here are gone. We came for a Mother's Day luncheon on Saturday before, we did not feel special nor wished a Happy Mother's Day. I brought a guest who had never dined here and I feel the prices we paid were not justified by the usual level of customer service. In the past, the manager would address me by name and it seemed like he would be happy to see us again. My steak was excellent, bread excellent, dessert excellent, crab legs were ok, salad not sufficiently dressed, and refills of our beverages had to be requested. There was a large party in the back, and the rest of the restaurant was average busy. My friend liked her pasta but took half home. Not the usual Flemings experience
Came here for dinner with a few friends for their 2 person
Came here for dinner with a few friends for their 2 person for $150. The staff were welcoming and attentive. The ambiance was laid back as we are in San Diego but many people do dress up at the place. On to the food, we ordered the tomahawk deal and the porterhouse deal. The sides chosen were 2 lobster Mac and cheese, Brussel sprouts and mash potatoes. Mike the server was extremely helpful especially when we were deciding on the dessert. The reason why the place wasn't 5 stars was because the tomahawk looked a bit small to share between two people. There were a total of about 5 slices that was shared between the two of us. While the porterhouse, was substantially more along. I wish I had taken a photo of the porterhouse steak to compare the two. The side dishes were great although of course everything felt heavy as of course it was a rich meal. The dessert was delicious although I don't have much of a sweet tooth. The lava cake had to be ordered ahead of time as it takes 18 minutes or so to bake. The meal overall was good but the portion felt off.
Our party of 4 came here for Tomahawk Tuesday and we were
Our party of 4 came here for Tomahawk Tuesday and we were stuffed! The deal is pretty good: $150 for 2 people and it includes 2 salads, 2 sides, 2 desserts, and either the 35oz Tomahawk OR the Sliced Porterhouse (6oz Filet Mignon + 28oz bone-in New York Strip). They also offered a complimentary basket of warm and soft bread with 2 kinds of spread. Our table ordered: -Salads: Wedge Salad (my favorite), Caesar salad, Fleming's Salad -35oz Tomahawk: comes pre-cut. This was so tasty, cooked to perfection, and was actually pretty filling between the 2 of us! -Sides: Brussel Sprouts (perfectly crispy), Fleming's Potatoes (cheesy and good), Sauteed Mushrooms, Chipotle Cheddar Mac and Cheese (creamy and delicious) -Desserts: Carrot Cake, Chocolate Lava Cake, Creme Brûlée-- everything tasted great but by the time dessert came, we were pretty stuffed. -A bottle of Cosentino Zinfandel ($60): perfect taste with our meal Service: Mark was our server and he was attentive, efficient, helpful, and personable! Food didn't take as long, considering our table ordered 2 Tomahawks. Parking: It's in downtown so be prepared to walk a few blocks to find street parking. We ended up parking at a paid lot for $10 a couple of blocks down. They also offer valet. Overall: Fantastic experience and deal with the Tomahawk Tuesday! Excellent service and great food. We were not disappointed and I'd come back again for this deal!
A nice steakhouse in downtown San Diego.
We came here for my brother's birthday. The service is really amazing and the atmosphere is pretty nice, too. The server was outgoing, knowledgeable, and a great conversationalist. The food was pretty good. The cooks were slightly off on all the steaks ordered, though. Not a huge deal, but I expected exactness from a high-end steakhouse. The sides were all super tasty--loved the Fleming's potatoes, burrata salad, and spinach. The espresso martini was pretty good too. The main courses were good, but not incredible or necessarily giving off anything that would elevate them beyond a general steakhouse's mains. For something pricey, I usually hope it will be great enough to remain memorable for quite some time. In any case, great sides, pretty good steaks, nice chicken, and good cocktails. Very memorable service.
This was our second Fleming's visit in about 12 years - not
This was our second Fleming's visit in about 12 years - not because we don't enjoy the food, but because we just aren't often near one. This review is for the bar area only - we didn't have a dinner plan, and just decided to hop in for a couple of drinks and an app - maybe a nice steak dinner for two. Now admittedly, we were dressed like Padres fans, and not "fancy" - but it's 2024, I think the idea of dressing to the nines to eat is kind of outdated? Especially so close to a ballpark. I only included this info because I think it might have been a factor; but regardless - the person serving us could not have cared less about the experience people were getting at the bar. The drinks were amazing - I ordered the manhattan and hubs had a hybrid whiskey sour, the food we ordered - crab cakes and the bread on the house; with onion/garlic butter and champagne Brie butter were phenomenal. The service from the kitchen was 5/5, and the gal behind the bar making our drinks was clearly the star of the show. The bartender? How do I say he should kick rocks and find another place to hold court with his friends? Oh, I just did. We sat at the bar for a solid ten mins, while he and a couple chatted about all the things THEM. We were getting ready to leave when he "noticed us".... And I don't normally bring up race but the white couple next to us (his friends), along with the solo diner (a white male) got 5 star service. My mixed race husband and I, along with his fellow bartender who was POC and he kept referring to as his "bar back", not so much. It was a phenomenal and weird display of white privilege that gave me the "ick" so horrificly bad that I felt we needed to go elsewhere for dinner. I don't think his schtick was intentional- but it was just tone deaf enough that I didn't care to see more of it. We are polite and friendly people in public, so we just left, mostly because hubs hates when I notice he's being treated differently. I'm sure if I had talked to management, everything would have been "handled" and made nice - but I will also note that the real customer experience is often one you don't hear about, because you just lost the customer instead. Anyhow, here are pics of the parts we did enjoy. Drinks made by the "bar back".
VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! Our go-to special occasion restaurant
VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! Our go-to special occasion restaurant offered mediocre service and improperly cooked steaks. Even though there were many empty tables we were place by a noisy large group. Unfortunately, we need to find a new go-to.
Came here for dinner with coworkers.
Was really excited to finally try this place out - it surprised me, though. To start, was a bit disappointed at the selection of alcohol used in cocktails. Too-shelf prices, Tito's and Absolut vodka? Really? Also, for a wine bar, the selection of wines was really underwhelming. Bottles available at Target and any available grocery store. Nothing special or unique. Food: this is what I came for, and I was bummed that the steak I ordered medium-rare was overcooked to medium well. For a steakhouse, and a $50+ filet mignon, I don't think that this is an acceptable oversight. The tomato basil burrata soup tasted like a marinara sauce that belonged on a pizza or pasta. They were very stingy with bread. The potatoes and asparagus were decent. The desserts were very good and dense. Not sure if I'd give this place another shot, since I've been to many better steakhouses at the same price point. Flemings didn't meet the bar, unfortunately.
Excellent service and food.
Mr. Steele was on the money with the steak and food suggestions. It's a great place to take a date.
I placed an order for pick up, so this review is mostly for
I placed an order for pick up, so this review is mostly for the food. Walking into the restaurant, the ambiance is intimate and warm and the staff is friendly. I ordered the prime burger and the chocolate gooey butter cake. The burger was ok. I asked for no tomatoes and that request was ignored, but tomatoes aren't overpowering so I was able to pick them out. The burger seemed like a normal burger you'd get at a steakhouse. There was nothing innovative about it, but it was cooked perfectly. Also, I didn't receive a lot of fries, but from what I did receive they were nicely seasoned. The butter cake that I paid almost $18 for (on DoorDash) was very small. The flavors and texture were great, so it was somewhat worth the price, but it may be too rich for others. I love trying new restaurants and I don't regret this meal, but if I return I'd try something else.
This place was recommended by a friend.
Great recommendation so he will remain a friend . Not inexpensive but I believe a value for the quality. Steak seasoned and cooked perfectly. No negatives, staff is great, attentive without being intrusive. I highly recommend for those seeking a special place.
My husband and I have had dinner at Flemings several times
My husband and I have had dinner at Flemings several times over the last few years. We decided to go again on Thursday evening for my birthday. Unfortunately, the food was not as good as it used to be. I ordered the thick pork chop that was so salty that I could not finish it. My husband ordered a steak, which was on the tough side. Typically, as in the past, we always order the Flemings potatoes. Much to my surprise, the cheesy potatoes were not so cheesy. In fact, they were very dry and overcooked. I'm not sure if we will be coming back! We paid a lot of money for a meal that wasn't very good! I think you can do better, Flemings.
A bit pricey (too be expected), however, parking is
A bit pricey (too be expected), however, parking is horrible. I'm local but probably won't go back due to the lack of parking. Easier for me to choose a local steakhouse with an abundance of free parking options.
The food was good, the lava cake was okay, a little bit
The food was good, the lava cake was okay, a little bit less sweet than expected. Overall a 4. The service was very on task & kind. Josh cared to ask my table if everything was fine or alright 4.5. The ambience is formal. Total is a 4.3 so basically a 4.5.
