Gelso & Grand New York Reviews from The Last Year
Very good place with excellent Italian food
We visited this place twice during our stay because the food and the service was really good. We had seafood and pasta, both were fresh, tasty and just as good as it would be in Italy.
This was a quick stop but worth it.
We ordered the meatballs (get these! They are delicious). The service was friendly, attentive, and fast. The ambiance was very Italian chic. We sat outside on the sidewalk. The weather was perfect. The seating was comfortable and not too crammed in. The wine: magnífico!
I can't believe I'm doing this.
I've had two downright awful, back-to-back experiences at Gelso, and sadly, I will not be returning. Let's start with the food quality. I don't know if they hired new chefs but what was once delicious is now mediocre at best. The portion sizes have also been halved. Unfortunately, the prices did not follow suit. What was the final nail in the coffin for me was last night's experience. We had reservations for 9:45pm. Our reservations were nowhere to be found. The hostess rudely just said the name wasn't in her system. I pulled up Resy on my phone and showed her our reservation for a table for two, inside. 5 minutes later, we were brought to a table for two, outside. It was 55 degrees and raining. My reservation was for a table indoors so I told (and showed) the hostess the reservation again. Even though other tables were available, she said the only option was a high-top bar table. The most uncomfortable table I think I've ever sat at. Also, you're sharing the table with strangers. Awful. The food last night was not the typical Gelso quality. I'm so sad that this once incredible restaurant has gone so far downhill. Time to find another Italian spot in Little Italy...
Great Italian food in Little Italy
Great Italian food in Little Italy! We had Calamari, a Brick Oven pizza and pasta, and it was all amazing. The service was good, too.

Good food. Sub par service
Was looking forward to a nice dinner. Food was very good. Atmosphere was nice. Service was not good. It was my husband's birthday so we had drinks and appetizers before dinner and wanted to go to Ferrara for dessert and coffee. That left the main dinner at Gelso & Grand. It seemed that because we didn't order drinks or appetizers , just the entrees, our server was never seen again other than to bring us a dessert menu and then the check. Our ice tea was delivered after our meals. We had to ask the person serving our meals for bread. Our server never asked if meal was ok or if we would like more Parmesan or ice tea. I truly liked what we ate, fettuccine bolognase and chicken piccata but I would not go back. If you go, make sure you either order drinks and appetizers or don't get Alexandro as your server.

Wonderful ambience, rustic industrial vibe in repurposed building along a Main Street of the Little Italy area in Manhattan. On this cold rainy day, we were greeted with prompt service and a nice warm environment that was bustling with both locals and tourists like us. The spaghetti pomodoro was the best I've had! The pistachio pesto was very tasty. It is worth a return trip when back in Manhattan.

Love this place! The service quality is excellent, the vibes are comfy, and the food is truly amazing. I'm making sure to record these outstanding cuisines so that I can re-experience them all on my next visit. Crispy Calamari: Not your ordinary dish! It's perfectly fried, devoid of any oily feeling. Plus, they've added some artichoke & haricot vert to create a harmonious balance. (Make a wish here - throw in more vegies, they match so well!) Prosciutto Pizza & Pistachio Pesto Pasta: Both were good choices. Their pizzas and pastas are consistently great. Truffle Pacchieri: Prepare to be wowed! The truffle flavor is incredibly rich--I could practically smell it wafting from the kitchen. Also it is so dense and creamy - you'll love its texture. Speakeasy-Like Bar Area: Hidden in the basement, it's a gem waiting to be explored. Perfect for chilling with friends. My mouth waters just reminiscing about it!

One star service by a salty rude un-attentive waitress from hell. You would expect anyone working here at this overpriced restaurant to be the most polite but that was unfortunately not the case for me and my daughter when we dined here on 4/24/24. We were celebrating my birthday. The trouble began when I asked the waitress (I think she was Italian) to ask the kitchen if they add vinegar to their brussel sprouts. She said she would return and let us know but instead she put the order in for the brussel sprouts without letting us know. Ok I let that slide and didn't even bother to bring it up because I didn't want to sour the occasion. She was extremely inattentive and never even returned to ask how our meal was or to ask if we wanted more drinks. The place was not that busy. Then my daughter went to use the rest room at the end of our meal. This completely clueless rude offensive waitress decided that would be the perfect time to bring me my birthday ice cream dessert with a candle on it. I swear she was jealous and wanted to spoil our night. So I waited for my daughter to return from the restroom while keeping an eye on the candle that was burning down, hoping my daughter would return before I had to make my wish and blow it out. Unfortunately my daughter did not return in time and I had to blow the candle out before it went all the way down touching and melting into the ice cream. This waitress tried to ruin our perfectly fine evening of fine dining and wining. I'm sorry I even bothered to give her a $14 tip. She certainly didn't deserve a tip - but I figured the tips are shared with the kitchen crew and didn't want to deprive them of their service because of this sad waitresses with bad manners. The restaurant would've made a whole lot more money if she was nicer and more attentive to our needs. We ended up going to a nearby bar and spending $150 in drinks afterwards. And the waitress from hell was unsuccessful in her attempts to ruin our celebrations. If you choose to dine here and get her as your waitress - be sure to request a different server - she is awful at her job. She is extremely unpleasant and rude to put it mildly. I suggest this restaurant owner hire someone more pleasant and less rude if you want return customers. I know a lot of people in Manhattan and I will never suggest this restaurant to them. We also won't be back.
Gelso & Grand had good reviews so I decided to check it out.
As soon as I entered, I could tell that the ambiance was very romantic. Lights were dimmed and decor was very nice. I went around 8pm and there were plenty of tables available, but the 2 person table was a bit small for the size of the menu and it was very close to the other table. We ordered the spicy Inferno pizza which was delicious. They did not have the frozen peachy frose, so we ordered the rose sangria and forbidden fruit sangria which were good and not too sweet. Staff was very attentive, always refilling waters and checking in if we needed anything. I would definitely come back to try out more options from the menu.
Good Italian restaurant but there wasn't anything that
Good Italian restaurant but there wasn't anything that really set it apart from other Italian joints. Don't get me wrong, my Pistachio Pesto pasta was made perfectly but the wine selection was just ok, the service was sub par and the restaurant was huge and touristy. The Ambiance was up beat but pedestrian. Maybe my expectations were too high but I'll be looking to do better next time.
Tourist trap
Maybe good but typical tourist trap. On arrival I ask for 4 glasses of water with ice, served automatically in all restaurants in New York and I am told that it is not possible there, so they bring me a bottle for almost 10 $, then I realize that the Americans at the neighboring tables all have carafes, then I am told that the tap water is not good so that is better for us…
Good service and good food .
Highly recommended and ambience. Food is amazing. Viviana is awesome thank you for your service

Ointment in New York
Very nice home A very beautiful place Good value for money Prices for New York are correct Very good To recommend to date
Amazing Italian food
We tried one of the homemade pastas and a pizza and we absolutely loved it both! Great restaurant with nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Never to return
We were a big group and had the set menu when we visited on Friday 8 December 2023. For the amount of money we paid, it was awful. Staff were very rude after we questioned the bill with one member of staff actually giving us the middle finger!! Will never return to this restaurant again!
big disappointment
A group of friends were having lunch on October 12. The food and service were correct but when it came time to pay they told us that our card was not valid and they asked us for another means of payment. We were surprised, but the meal was paid for with another card (from the same person). A few days ago the friend who paid received the charge in duplicate. He claimed it and the restaurant has refused to give him a refund, claiming that he does not have proof of payment, something that is not mandatory today and which, furthermore, can easily be verified with the card transactions and the restaurant itself can verify your payments. The two charges are made seconds apart for the same amount and to the same owner. What else do you need to check? I would be ashamed... Really, is it worth it?
