Gemma is back!
Wow, just had dinner at Gemma for the first time in years. Fantastic experience! Food, Service, Vibe all top tier. Sweetbreads are delicious!

This is a restaurant that has survived CoVid and rough economy, etc., with good reviews in tack. Food was very good; service very professional; wine list pedestrian at best. 6:45 reservations on a Tuesday night. It fills up quickly with a crowd that wouldn't pass a dress code. if they had one. It's loud and tables are too close together. Food presentation and taste are excellent; portions are right-sized. Chef is little heavy-handled with the salt. Food prices are in line of the quality; wine is overpriced pushing 400% over retail. Felt rushed to turn the table.

From the moment they reached out to us long before dinner to the time we left we were pampered and we think you will be too.
I always alert high-end restaurants that I have certain dietary requirements. This restaurant reached out to me in advance to make sure that they were able to accommodate me and spent almost 5 minutes on the phone really checking so that they would be able to make serious recommendations for me.
Let’s start with the wine menu. A single word. Wow! Kudos to the owner for crafting such a diverse and distinctive wine list. The choices range from extremely affordable to very high-end. We have seen wine menus all over the world and this is competitive with restaurants anywhere.
The food menu is as distinctive as the wine menu. Innovative dishes, carefully executed executed. The chef is extremely attentive to both the kitchen and then checking with diners to make sure that it is to their expectations.
A must have dish is the grilled Cesar salad. Before warned, this is Texas size you may want to share with another person.
Desserts. All I can say is save room! Enough said. A memorable evening. Highly recommended.
I used to love this place
I don't know why it has gone downhill but it has. Most everything was overcooked making it dry and tough. The drinks were great - I've always loved their drinks. We also had the fried olives and pecans which we love and that was still good. I had duck and it was very dry. One of our friends had the sweet breads and that was equally dry. One person in our party had pasta and it was good but not great and the person who had chicken felt it was okay. The worst dish was the coconut cream pie and it was all wrong - I don't know what happened here but it tasted like key lime pie with maybe a hint of cocomut. If I had requested key lime pie, I would have been happier with the choice. Sorry to see it disappoint like that....it still has great ambiance. It seems like someone wasn't paying attention to the cooking times. It was a Saturday night too. Maybe the real chef was out sick?

Eight adults and one infany and we had a very nice dinner. The staff, to specifically include the credentialed wine steward, were great. I will definitely return when back in Dallas.

All food is great. I had an issue with my baked oysters and it was handled with no issue. The specialty cocktails are tasty.

A meal at Gemma never disappoints!
We arrived on time for our 8:00 reservation and were seated immediately.
We were greeted with an offer of cold water right away and our waitress, Ashley, followed up a minute or two later. She provided excellent service throughout the meal.
I had some questions about wine and Ashley sent the sommelier over. He was very helpful and suggested a Sancerre that was perfect with our food.
There were 4 of us and we shared appetizers of fried Castelvetrano green olives with pecans and albacore tuna with sweet pepper escabeche. The olives had a light, crispy coating and were delicious, as were the pecans. The tuna was presented beautifully and was cool, fresh and tasty.
After appetizers we had salads. The little gem caesar was a nice size with just the right amount of dressing, with plenty of fresh parmigiano reggiano. The heirloom tomato salad was awesome, and you better get it now as this is the best time of year for tomatoes. I didn't taste it but my friend who had the grilled peach salad said it was excellent.
For entrees 3 of us had the pacific halibut and the fourth had the Windy Meadows chicken porchetta. The halibut was cooked perfectly with a crust on top that I am very envious of as I can't seem to master that skill. It was served with chanterelle mushrooms, braised baby bok choy, parmesan broth and cashews. Excellent! The chicken was sliced breast meat covered in herbs, with ricotta dumplings.
After all that food and 2 bottles of wine were too full for dessert.
This is a tough reservation to get on the weekend, but if you plan far enough in advance you will be happy you did!
Perfect table, great service with personal touches, delicious food
We loved everything about Gemma, the ambience, the birthday card and complimentary appetizer for the birthday man in our party. The service was terrific. Attentive and not rushed. Lots of time to ask questions. We will be back soon.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Evening
Celebrating our 64th birthdays we tried Gemma based on good reviews. Menu was interesting, if not a little exotic. Beautiful presentations. Fun and delicious specialty drinks. Jalapeño/? Loved! Great servers. Noise level a little high, so not advised for a serious business dinner. Valet available.

My companion and I dined on a Saturday, early evening. There were no empty tables and we got seated immediately. Good start except it was extremely cold in the restaurant or possibly our table. Server told management immediately but I did not see him move, although he may have, out of my eyesight.
Reason why I like Gemma has not changed. The menu is small and the choices are varied but cover any dining options. The servers were warm but not very personable.
So what's changed? Besides walking into the arctic cooler, which does not necessarily say "warm and comfortable", we felt rushed. When you take your last bite of a course, the next flies in and you might say that's efficiency, I call it "hurry we got tables to turn on a Saturday night. Let your diners absorb the moment and food with out the express pace.
Servers were there but back to the efficiency pace again, be warm, get personal without intrusion. I asked to order a starter and the server says No, lets order all together so I can pace it. That should have been my first sign that we need your two top. Food? Good, but not Gemma worthy which is why I came back.
Lastly the three $ signs on Yelp are very misleading. Drinks, one starter, 2 entrees, and a desert was $184. And why so stingy with the complimentary scones? That plate was swept away as fast as my last bite.
So, are they that full of themselves now? What turned out to be a very anticipated event became a freezing, over priced, fast food excursion.
Fine Dining with a Friendly Atmosphere
Many Fine Dining restaurants have an air of snootiness about them - not Gemma. We were able to get a last minute reservation and so happy that we could. From the minute we walked in the door we were treated like we were regulars (it was our fist time at Gemma). The food was exceptional. The fried olives and pecans were a yummy appetizer. The chicken porchetta and the egg noodle pasta was superb. Will definitely be going back.

Gemma was our late night dining spot on Saturday night. When we sat down we were immediately served water and little warm scones. We placed our drink orders. Our cocktails were well made. Our dinner included the cauliflower which we really liked. We ordered two pasta dishes: orecchiette which was pretty good, and gemelli which was delicious. We had the carrot cake for desert which was light and flavorful All in all a good dinner.
