My company had us staying at the Generator last week for a conference that we were having at the hotel across the street. I had a private room which was fine, I was basically using the room for sleeping and changing. I had to ask 3x for a washcloth. The toilet had no lid and I had to hold down the lever whenever I flushed to make sure that everything got flushed. It was the most basic of basic..would not reccommend.
Be the first to ReplyThe Generator Miami from the website and upon entering into
The Generator Miami from the website and upon entering into the hostel gave an inviting atmosphere. Alejandra was very accommodating and knowledgeable of how to make guests feel welcome. Unfortunately, I lost my phone in an Uber there. Luckily, Alejandra was very helpful and assisted me with contacting Uber to have my phone returned. Unfortunately, I was in Chicago when my phone was given to the Generator Miami (here's where the 3 stars comes in). While there at the Generator Miami waiting for my phone to turn up, I inquired with the front desk staff three different times across two days about if someone called the Generator to informed the front desk staff someone was bringing my phone. They shared no one called. My intuition made me stay around in the lobby area on the second day (Friday) because Uber informed me that they contacted the driver and he would give the Generator a ring. So, I wanted to see if someone would call. I observed the phones ringing constantly and did not see the front desk male attendant answer the phone for about 1 hour. It wasn't until another male staff encouraged him to answer the phone to avoid a bad review for the hostel.By seeing that the phone ranged for an hour without being answered who knows if my phone would have been returned earlier. Due to the non-responsiveness of this male staff, and the lack of professionalism regarding being attuned to the hostel operations and needs of their guest(me), I am highly disappointed with my treatment there. I will not recommend this hostel for anyone who is familiar and accustomed to good quality lodging because they would be highly disappointed. I will also say the male staff appeared young and although age should not play a significant factor here, age within employment history might and it appears that more experienced people understand the importance of customer service to maintain business. Unfortunately, this young male staff did not imbue said understanding nor experience or he would have answered the phone knowing this is a top priority for a place of lodging.I will also say, there was no clear reason for him to not attend to the phones as I saw him engaging with another guest in a conversation that had nothing to do with the hostel or the guest's stay. The whole time I can only imagine the amount of money lost to the Generator on that Friday night due to this staff's negligence and how sooner I possibly could have gotten my phone. It is my hope things concerning this specific matter or others like it improves and this remains a one time situation. I have an email confirmation that my phone will be mailed out the next day post this review from the Generator Miami. I'll update this review upon receiving my phone to let everyone know if actually the Generator Miami mailed it to me in Chicago. Fingers crossed.
Be the first to ReplyI stayed at Generator Miami for two nights last-minute
I stayed at Generator Miami for two nights last-minute after a mix up at their sister hotel. It's in a great location, right across the street from the trolley stop and only two blocks from the beach. There are a few things they could improve upon. The room was very nice, but dusty and the plumbing wasn't great. They require you to pay a resort fee, which covers the "beach rentals" like towels, chairs, etc...yet they were always out of beach umbrellas and the "beach chairs" for rent aren't actually beach chairs, they're camp chairs, and you can only rent a bike for two hours. Since this is a mandatory fee, they really need to make sure they have ample resources for guests. The front desk staff was nice. The lobby seems to always be bustling between people checking in and out and the (sometimes very long) line of people trying to use the one elevator. In all, I'd stay here again if I came back to Miami Beach and wanted to be just enough away from the hustle and bustle of South Beach for a quieter spot.

I'm just now seeing the mostly bad reviews here, but for a one night stay in a PRIVATE room, this place wasn't bad at all. First time staying in a hostel (could even be the last) and this one had seemingly good vibes a nice pool area, clean rooms, easy and fast check-in and check-out process and plain, somewhat comfortable rooms. The mattress and pillow weren't up to the quality of say The Westin (pillows were not down/ had no feathers), but okay for one night. I didn't eat or drink there so no comment on that.

This place is a fun and vibrant place to stay if you are looking for budget accommodations in Miami. I was surprised the hostel website advertised this hostel being located on south beach as it is on mid beach 30 minutes from south beach. The bed is extremely hard; It really takes firm to the next level. If you are not exhausted, you might have one or two sleepless nights here. I went to the pool and spent some time on a lounge chair. The atmosphere was nice, but it looked and felt as if the chairs were meant to have cushions and for some reason did not. It seems they went for looks over comfort. I addition, the bar was closed. It left me wondering what exactly my resort fee was covering. The vibe is nice, and the place is clean. I have stayed at many hostels in the us that were not too social. I was pleasantly surprised to find the guests friendly and sociable. If you can handle the bed and the lack of coffee, it would be a good place for a solo traveler or budget trip.

Nice stylish and modern hostel located on Collins just literally walking distance from the beach. A nice walk from South beach and Lincoln Rd shops (and by nice walk I mean about a mile or around 30 minutes) The overall hospitality of the staff could use some improvements but maybe it's just a laid back vibe...who knows. The rooms are a bit small for my liking (stayed in the 4 room mixed dorm) it was 3 girls and one guy It does have a full length mirror, separate bathroom and shower. They gave me a top bunk and I called immediately to say I have a bad knee could I switch to a bottom EMPTY bunk and I was told no! Smh My room was right by the pool so pretty noisy but didn't bother me.Miami is HUMID and the rooms you can barely feel any A/C only feel air conditioning in the lobby. There is a bar/restaurant in the lobby. I never got to visit there yet but from the other guests I heard it's overpriced food. The Wi-Fi is terrible I have to login every time just to use it! Very annoying.Overall if you're looking for a trendy hostel that's close to nearly everything and AFFORDABLE (they also offer late check out for $11) then definitely check them out FYI They have several locations all over the world

Be the first to ReplyI first want to say that I have stayed at the Generator
I first want to say that I have stayed at the Generator before and never had the experience that I had yesterday. The racist manager Julius needs to be fired. Racist establishment with a disrespectful manager that argued with me and called the police on me for trespassing. I inquired about check in time and how many people were left to check out and the manager got on a power trip and told me I don't have to stay there. When I called Booking.com about a refund they stated that they sent the refund request to the hotel. Generator hotel was pretending that they didn't get a request. if your black or don't speak Spanish avoid this hotel.

Not worth the money! Front desk men are racist AH's! Much better at FH Miami...much more popular!
Be the first to ReplyFront desk staff is more than helpful.
Helped as often as possible and HOJA taqueria was always there for my cup of ice needs.
Be the first to ReplyThis place sucks!!!.
.. Checked in, put my phone on my wireless charger, went outside to go have a cigarette, when I came back to my room my iPhone X plus max was gone!!I even asked the two people that were in the room what happened to my phone... of course they had no idea... Even though I know one of those pieces of garbage or someone who had access to the room took it.Then when I told the manager about it he upgraded me for one night and then basically put me out on the street..I even asked The manager Luis Rodriguez if they had a lost and found if someone returned it, since basically when you steal someone else's iPhone it's basically like a big paperweight because everythings via facial recognition and an eye retina scan.Anyway the manager blamed me for leaving my phone on my charger in my room that I booked at their hotel.I have traveled the world and been around the globe more than 20 times, and never have I ever been treated so poorly, and with such hostility and basically blaming me The guest/visitor who booked a Room at your property, made a reservation, paid for my reservation for multiple nights.... and then when my things went missing they blamed The visitor/guest/me for it! I even asked them to look at the cameras because the cameras can show you exactly who is going in and out of the rooms since there are cameras on the way up, and down the stairs as well as all the common areas, so you can always see who is coming in and out of the rooms. There is literally a camera at the top of the stairs right before you walk into the room that I was staying at, so all they had to do was look at the camera at the time that it happened and they would have the guests who were staying in the room and they could question them or have the police do a quick investigation.Look at all the other reviews and you can tell that it's definitely just a complete disaster and they probably have a circle of people who constantly go in and out of the rooms stealing things from visitors and guests staying at the property.Anyway you heard it from me and like many other people this place is just a bag of garbage and they definitely need to do something about the management and how they operate a place that is supposed to be welcoming and deals in the hospitality/customer service industry. Not really sure what kind of shit show they are running over there but be advised to stay clear of this place at all costsYou're welcome
Be the first to ReplyI've never written a review before.
This hotel/hostel led me to this truthful review. Think about the worst hotel you've ever stayed at...but multiply that by 10. When arriving to the hotel the first thing you smell is weed and alcohol. Inside seemed like a fun and joyful place...but oh were we wrong. When entering our room we noticed the floors had what seemed like body oil spilled all over. The sheets had a brown stain. The top bunk had dirt and hair. Pillows were not washed. To top off our stay the shower did not turn warm (Luke warm at best). This is the worst place I've ever stayed at DO NOT stay here. Prices do NOT match quality.

Why does it take now 2 weeks still haven't seen my deposit refund but while I'm here it's really sad that this place does not have a refrigerator and a microwave nowhere in the building but the cheaper hostels do they're not expensive guys that's my only complaint so about this deposit where the hell is it I have navy federal there is no reason why I got other deposits any other time within the 10 years that I have had that bank in 3 days no problem but the generator and freehand did not return my deposit
Be the first to ReplyThis place was awesome! Super chil, pretty and fun.
Even though the hostel was busy they found ways to accommodate my groups needs. We will definitely stay there when we go to Miami Beach.
Be the first to ReplyItems stolen from our room, hotel staff handled it terribly.
Came with a large group for a bachelor party, stayed in the 5 bunk dorm above the bar. On day 2, a random dude came into our room using a key while some of us were in it. Saw we were in there and turns and left without a word. We immediately brought it to the front desk and requested they deactivate any old cards and issue us new keys. They did give us keys but we later found out the old keys were never deactivated (tried old keys and they worked). That night, someone entered our room and stole a laptop, headphones, and multiple pairs of sunglasses. In addition to this being unacceptable, it is also super unsafe and it sounds like this is not the only time from reading other reviews...
Be the first to ReplyThe woman at the front desk was the best part of our stay.
I believe her name was Leslie, but this hotel is a definite miss. It's half hostel, half hotel which is totally fine except when you pay for the hotel room and they don't provide any of the amenities. No one cleaned our room over the three night stay when we asked twice, the WiFi didn't work, we had to go down to the front desk to ask for towels after no one answered the phone when we called twice. The restaurant and bar was closed but they still put the signs out every day like they had happy hour. It's clear that there is a lack of organization and the front desk was under staffed. One person was handling all of the guests, it felt like every time someone else was having an issue. We were reasonable and understanding about the chaos due to the pandemic. After we checked out I looked at my card and was charged $34.19 that I couldn't figure out. I called and was told we were charged a resort fee late even though it was never explained to us that there would be one at check out and as I just explained we didn't use any resources that would have been considered part of the "resort." I asked if the charge could be removed as it wasn't authorized and they refused to, I get that at the end of the day it's not a large sum but it was really just the tip of the iceberg. I would stay away.

This hotel had a broken AC no hot water and no service no beverages.. mostly after explaining to the woman at the desk to put security hold on my personal card and to use the card my business booked my hotel on at booking.com for the room charge I even wrote her notes. She charged my card the room fee as well $530 that couldn't be returned for days leaving me with no money for taxis food or bags at the airport. I have to say they don't answer the phone if you call front desk and it's hard to get any service at all plus it tied up my funds for the week by not listening to me. Probably the worst service I've had at a hotel.Price Location and interior is Cool for the price
