Grand Slam Homerun
Was razzed and heckled all day by colleagues and selecting a Vegan Mexican Restaurant. The Guacamole was solid. The Spicy and Sweet Cauliflower was excellent, reminded me of the Indian Dish Aloo Gobbi. For mains; two colleagues had Tacos. All were rated as good. The Fuerte Cruchwrap with the addition of Al Pastor Mushrooms was truly spectacular. The flavors melded perfectly together. The quantity was excellent. We shared Pineapple Upside Down Cake and Chocolate Olive Oil Cake. Both were good, with the Chocolate the winner. Emma led amazing service, cordial and assisting in selecting. After dinner it was all accolades, that continued into the following day.
Be the first to ReplyVegan Mexican Cuisine at a New Level
Gracias Madre takes vegan cuisine to a new level. Everything we ate that evening was super delicious. Service is friendly and very attentive. Since we had excellent appetizers (queso fundido, crab cakes) we went for smaller entrees which made the tacos a logical choice. The two tacos I had (asada, parm) were, again, excellent, and the rest of the party was very happy with their choices. The selection of wines is somewhat limited, but to have a Txacoli from Basque Country in the wine list is a rare find. Seating outside was cozy, and patio heaters were on. The only negative impression was the annoyingly loud level of background music (rap, for a good part of the evening). Nobody I saw at the restaurant seemed to listen or care about the music, but they turned it up anyway, maybe because they could, and uninterrupted conversation at the tables might not be appreciated.

We came here for brunch and enjoyed our meal so much we can't wait for the next time we can eat there again. I had the french toast and my husband had the breakfast burrito. Prices are a little high but well worth it for great vegan food.

I have eaten at this restaurant like 50 times, and never felt particularly compelled to leave a review. Then, Drew sashayed to my table with a pineapple upside down cake that literally gave me the chills it was so good. It was like an Herbal Essences commercial and I was the lady moaning and touseling my hair in an elevator. The staff was very kind and attentive, prices were very fair, and the fanciness didn't made me feel left out even though I just shambled in from the beach.

Great venue with simply amazing food. We loved everything we tried, and can’t wait to back to hit the rest of the menus. Excellent Margaritas, and a tequila tasting menu to boot. It doesn’t matter whether your vegan or not, you will love this place. Indoor and outdoor dining, easy parking, and super staff.

The food, service and ambiance were excellent. They have a robust and creative menu of delicious plant based Mexican dishes. The food is fresh and beautifully presented. My fiancé was the only vegan in our party of 6 and we all loved it and plan to return soon. Special note on the enchiladas with spicy soyrizo!

Stopped in while in town for work. Nice restaurant with helpful staff. They have a great variety of vegan Mexican dishes. Good location in Newport Beach that is close to airport. I will be back to visit.

I had the portabella mushroom tacos that were delicious. The mushroom was fried, with a special sauce, so yummy.

People may think that the word vegan is synonym of bad taste, and thought that too until I went to Gracias Madre! The food tastes the same as the not vegan. I had the Mole Tamale and it was as great as traditional Mexican tamales. The service was super good. You have to try the mezcal cocktail and the churros.

We are thrilled to have Gracias Madre in the neighborhood! The food is really fabulous and very satisfying. The service was good as well. The only caveat is the price of beer/wine - OMG!!!!! The cheapest Pinot Noir by the glass was $18 - that is a HUGE markup. We get that there is a markup on alcohol but that glass of pinot was more expensive than my dinner.
Overall an excellent experience - we'll just have some wine before we leave home....
Vegan Mexican - Loved it!
Sat in the heated outside patio - nice ambiance and trendy vibes. Ordered the burrito bowl with flour tortillas on the side. Others ordered Enchiladas and Chili Rellano, Guac and Chips. Everything was outstanding. The only side which one person did not like was what I think was blue tortillas as a side. Inside is a bit noisy so we chose the outside. They do have a semi private room which looked nice and might be a bit quieter. Not sure.

Had lunch at Gracias Madre, which took the place of Cafe Gratitude. Having been a vegetarian for over 40 years I was excited. The ambiance of the restaurant was very chic and comfortable. Once seated we were attended to by very attentive, competent and efficient wait staff. We tried a variety of dishes. Chips and guacamole were good. Favorite of mine was the jackfruit taco. My friend, a carnivore, had the BTLA wrap said only ingredient missing was meat. Another friend had the tamale and felt it was lacking in flavor. Each entree had an interesting garnish which was unexpected and very tasty. Disappointed to receive margaritas in small glasses full of ice which weren’t completely filled. Prices were expensive for vegan food but not for the location of the restaurant.
Lastly I’d like to note our uncomfortable seating. When we arrived, the hostess immediately asks if we had a reservation. We did not. And since the restaurant was empty we were confused. While I understand it may have been to clear a potential reservation her demeanor was uninviting and rude. No smile, hello, welcome-sorry but this is not a good introduction to any new establishment.
