Standard drops!
After 2 years, the standard drops. Have it today after they closed for months at GM market as the queue kind of short but still need to wait for 20mins for 5 person in the q. The wetness is missing which I like in the past when is still steaming hot. The wok hei is missing and $3 is kind of small portion for a grown up man like me. Luckily it is for my breakfast and hence not too much for the small serving.

Thereโs a perpetual queue and it moves like a glacier. Uncle fries the Kway Teow one plate at a time. Even if you order a few plates he would fry them one plate at a time. From scratch. But I think lately he has improved on his logistics and pre-fry the noodles in batches and just add the ingredients a la minute plate by plate. But I have tasted better Fried Kway Teow elsewhere. So donโt be fooled if you think the queue is proof of the pudding. Itโs just that Uncle is so sloooooow.

this stall has a very long queue. used to eat here during my school days. i do come back to eat here on weekends.
Be the first to ReplyTotally disappointing!!
The queues for this stall is always long. We waited for 30 mins on a Saturday afternoon, and the queue hardly moved. Despite all the crowds waiting for this dish, the dish was a great disappointment- it lacked the fragrance, the balance, had no walk hei, and was less than ordinary. It makes a mockery of this special local dish we love so well! He closes on Sunday, Monday and Thursday and public holidays.
Be the first to ReplyAmongst the very best
I waited 40 mins for my plate and when I had my first taste, i reminded me how good and how much I had missed this.
Not so much of wok-hei but the balance was unparalleled. It is literal skills that is on full display. The fish cake was tender, sausage added another dimension and beansprouts were slightly done wee much. The sauce and extra chili really complemented the entire dish.
Very satisfying.... burp!
Have to try โcarrot cakeโ when in Singapore!
Loved this. Such a unique dish and not at all what I expected. The chef was guan kee was super friendly. He clearly knew I was a tourist and didnโt know how to order and he helped me through. I ordered the black carrot cake but he gave me a little side of white as well to try. For the westerners who associate carrot cake with dessert, this is far from it. It is a savory dish with soy sauce and egg. Definitely try it and come to Guan Kee!
Be the first to ReplyBest fried kway teow
I just love this especially in the early morning with steamy hot from the wok! The Uncle cooked plate by plate despite tiredness in order to serve the best quality of his fried Kway Teow. You have to wait even with short queue due to his frying style is plate by plate regardless you order how many plates of packets. Worth a wait and I ordered the $5 with extra cockles ... really great. However, eating there instantly taste better than you packet home! Also, he doesnโt use sweet sauce to fry which I like the most... yummy and watch put his opening time. Closed on. Sunday, Monday and Thursday I think ...
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the wait
Even if you like your CKT wet and not sweet, it's still not worth standing in queue. The noodles are not well coated and the ingredients that accompany were very modest.
Be the first to ReplyLots of pig lard and "wok hei"
Located within the hawker center and you can see long queue from far.
Be prepared to queue minimum 30 mins. Firstly, uncle will cook a big wok of kway teow. After frying some time, he will scope them up into 4~ 5 plates and place it aside and continue cooking the rest. He ensures that each plate will have a full egg, not mass cooking like some other sellers. Price starts from $ 3 to $5. Don't expect a lot for $ 3 / plate. There is wok hei with lots of fried pig lard. Personally, not the best for me.
