Solid 4 Stars for Gurney's Star Island.
Recently stayed here for work purposes for a few nights and let me tell you. We were hooked up by a landslide. Man oh man. It was a nice little getaway in between the work and the down time we had. Only downside was where my room was I had to lug my luggage and other stuff up two flights of stairs. Thank god for my work guys one of em brought my stuff down and helped me put it in my truck since none of the staff offered to help during check in or check out. Mind you my job had the entire property for the few days we were there so it was probably an exodus of people. My other minor complaints are my bed wasn't comfy and the water in the shower wasn't very hot. The shower I'll equate to about 90 people all decided to take a shower at 7am to start by 9am.Otherwise there were plenty of amenities in the rooms and a plethora of food and beverages throughout the day. No one left that resort on Friday hungry that's for sure.I'm sure I'll be back next year. Maybe I'll even be back beforehand for maybe a little getaway with the beau.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a lovely stay at Gurney's Star Island.
We have stayed at the other Gurney's but will likely chose this location again because it's a little more quiet and low key. I'm unsure why there are a lot of complaints but I think it has to do with the room you get and how much you pay on your room rate. That said, we would definitely return. Highlights were a warm welcome at reception from Jerome, a lovely room with a private deck overlooking a small lake beach, an indoor heated pool when the weather doesn't cooperate, complimentary bikes, swans visiting every day, the marina and the pool bar. We had such a lovely time even though the weather was n't the best.

Not sure if my expectations were set too high, but Gurney's Star Island did not deliver in many ways. The service was lackluster, with no real attention to detail and extremely low energy from the staff. We were celebrating our recent nuptials and the staff didn't acknowledge it (which I don't assume that to be the case, but we are talking about a pretty expensive and well-to-do brand). The rooms were nice enough, but it seemed like a majority of the investment into the new renovations went into the bathrooms. Really.. really nice showers tbh. Drinks were overpriced, which you could expect from a Gurney's resort, but nonetheless.. $25 for a glass of rose is wild. Our friends had sent a gift package of delicious snacks to our room and the staff delivered it while we were out for hours.. without a note.. and it sat in our room stinking up the place. Blew my mind that they thought that was a smart move and upon addressing this issue with the team there, they took zero action into rectifying the problem. Giving this 2 stars only because.. the location was nice and it was quiet.

Most important to thank Albert for his information and suggestions. Kudos
Be the first to ReplyI can name the staff members that did a good job.
The rest were comically terrible. The grounds are cute. I liked the hammocks, rental bikes, and design/structure of the buildings. The rooms were unimpressive. The double bed room had a nice bathroom and a really soft bed blanket, but nothing else was particularly nice nor set this place apart from the other resorts, hotels, or even inns (!!!) in the area. The beach advertised is laughably small. The small pool gets congested and is next to the diners and drinkers, so it's not particularly peaceful or nice. The food at Showfish was really really bad, but I'll save that for their standalone review. I've never stayed at a Holiday Inn, but I doubt this is too dissimilar. Clearly I am superficial with high standards, so I expected more from this place. Pretentious - but lacking - resorts like this are what contributed to Airbnb being such a force in the vacation industry.
Be the first to ReplyCame by for a day to check it out.
Staff seem non existent and this seems more like a party type place mixed with older folk wanting to show off their boat. They advertise a beach but the beach is a small stretch of sand about 40 feet wide and 15 feet long - my measurements aren't exact but I'm not exaggerating either

Short of buying a summer home in Montauk, this is the next best option for a stay. The rooms are clean, the property is beautiful, and the (SHORT) staff really try their best to accommodate the crowds. The hotel draws a nice clientele. Its very easy to stay here, ample room for the kids to play some catch, do paddle boarding on the calm lake MTK beach, a nice pool, good food options, and a hopping bar. The views at night are spectacular, and the millions of dollars of yachts are amazing to see. It's one of the top marinas in the hemisphere. yes, the price is steep, however, it's not a stretch compared to the other options, and for a few more bucks a night, it's kinda worth it.They did screw up our reservation, and we did have to deal with fire alarms at 5AM... we had to cram into a room for two people with four of us, and really not much of a concession was made. But Jerome was on our side and did what he could to accommodate us. I'm sure they aren't paying him enough.

Myself and friends called ahead of time asking if the outside bar and tables were open at around 10pm. We were told, yes and that it was open until 11pm. After we had paid $75 for an Uber and finally arrived, we went outside and realized the bar and seating area was closed. When we went to the front desk to see if the area was still open to smoke cigars, and were suddenly told it was closed due to inclement weather. The inclement weather being rain that occurred SIX hours prior. The bar and front desk were approximately 30 feet apart, and the fact that there was no communication between both parties is absolutely ridiculous. When we asked the young girl at the front desk who was approximately 5'6, Hispanic with dark hair in a pony tail wearing a large white blazer, she was extremely rude. She told us it "wasn't her fault" that she didn't communicate with the people who were 30 feet away from her, and that there would be absolutely no compensation for the ride home. Extremely rude and disrespectful service from the front desk. Very disappointed and expected much more from an establishment that I have had great experience from prior.

Our 3rd year coming out to Star Island for an annual Father's Day family outing... Always enjoy being out by the water and the boats. The rooms are still nice.... Getting a little tired but still good. My biggest gripe is the hotel management's insistence that loud, pulsing music be played and heard all around the public areas of the hotel at virtually every waking hour -- on the docks, by the pool, around the restaurant... It's all just too much and really undermines the chance to relax and just enjoy the peace of being by the water. Really wish they would re-think doing that, or, at the very least, lower the VOLUME!!!!
