Higher end dimsum with Chinese grandma approved food and cute vibes. Harborview is such a nice dimsum place. They're in the embarcadero center, so it has a garage that the restaurant validates for which is nice. The space itself is on the fancier side and the service is nicer as well. Half of my party was vegetarian and the servers were super kind in making sure that the tables dietary restrictions were met. The dimsum itself was pretty good as well! Honestly everything I had was a hit. The sticky rice in lotus leaf, the bbq buns, the brown sugar sponge cake, the fried bean curd roll with shrimp (extra delicious omg). My grandma, who is super picky with dimsum, also loved the food. Grandma approved! They also have plenty of vegetarian options which is pretty rare for dimsum. Overall, super yummy, would definitely recommend!

I've probabaly been here about 15 times. Very high quality and always consistent. Some of my favorite things are the sugar crusted pork buns, honey garlic sesame chicken, sautéed beef with seasonal vegetables, and black cod. Coffee lava buns for dessert. House wine is pretty good. Service is very efficient. I've brought a lot of friends and family here and they are always impressed.

This review is for their portions only: Good food, but be careful about ordering for your office lunch because the portions are considerably smaller (I learned this the hard way). Their entrees are half the size of a normal chinese dish entree. Their dim sum is 75-80% of a normal dim sum. Never even considered calling the restaurant and asking how much food I should be ordering for 12 people (you need to add 30-40% more food than what you would normally order from a dim sum place) i'm 100% sure most of the guests walked away from our lunch still hungry
Be the first to ReplyHarborview is definitely one of the nicer Chinese
Harborview is definitely one of the nicer Chinese restaurants in town, and seats near the window or on the patio will have a nice view of the Ferry Building and Embarcadero. The place is massive and so is the menu. There is a section for dim sum but also a collection of greatest hits. The main reason why we stopped by was for the chili crab. During our 4 years in Singapore, we ate our fair share of chili crabs. The version at Harborview was a bit different - less spicy, a little sweeter, but still very tasty. Other dishes were a mix. The char siu was so so but the wontons in chili oil was a sleeper hit. Service was all over the spot and it didn't seem like we had a dedicated server, but overall decent. Definitely a good choice especially in this part of town.

Best duck and "signature" black cod, hands down!! We ended up here because it's next door to our hotel (Hyatt Regency - Embarcadero). 10/10 would recommend. The food is high quality and the service impeccable. Everything from tea and water to mains and desserts... everything arrived and was cleared without even the slightest hesitation. It's almost as if the staff were invisible. *Theres a ramp and elevator inside the quad to get upstairs through the bar area.

Hospitality is defined as friendly and generous and entertainment of guests. It did not feel that way most of the time during our dim sum lunch on Saturday. We had reservations for four. The dining room was not very busy at 11:00. No one was waiting to be seated when we left. Needless to say, service was rude and dismissive by particular staff members with whom we had to interact. A stark difference from the treatment we received at a banquet luncheon here on February 3rd. A celebration of a 100th birthday. Service then, was attentive and gracious. Service, food and ambiance is a complete package. If done right it would be a perfect dining experience. Not here. Not on that day. Not for us. A two star review instead of one. The greeter at the street level, food and tea servers; and staff who cleared the table as lunch progressed bumped up the rating. They should get the whole automatic 18% service charge. Try it if you like. Disagree if you had a positive experience. I guess you pay for what you get. 80 person 9 course banquet vs four for dim sum. Not recommended.

Food-4/5 Service-5/5 Ambiance-5/5 Good for higher end Chinese dimsum or dinner. Food is fresh. Lovely balcony seating available with city views, if the weather permits, that can be enjoyed by out of town guests or locals.

Loved the salt and pepper Dungeness crab! I was less impressed by the Peking duck but it wasn't bad. Snow pea shoots with garlic were good as always (hard to mess up). Very spacious interior and easy to get a reservation.
Be the first to ReplyThe table service provided by our waitress was terrible.
She was inattentive and barely civil. The food quality was uneven. Everything came out fast. Several dishes were not worth the high cost. We ordered Singaporean chili crab which was undercooked. Some of the meat was missing & it was strangely difficult to get the meat out of the shell

We came here for a family celebration, we're really glad we had a reservation, since it was packed at 6:30 on a Saturday night. Grateful for validated parking and the service regarding refreshing tea and plates! We had the seafood soup, specialty crab, squab x2, black cod, vegetable crepe, rice and the cooked melon with spinach (?). Enough food of food for five. There was indoor and outdoor seating, we sat indoors. I would say it was pretty loud, due to the full house, and there was wedding reception in the adjacent dining room that we could hear. Other than that, I would love to come back.

I made my reservation with Open Table at 5 pm on a Thursday since there was no 4 pm available. I called the restaurant directly and spoke with Karen and she was nicely changed my reservation to 4 pm since my friends & I were going to see a play (The 39 Steps) at SF Playhouse. We were seated by the bar. We had the Happy Hour menu and as always the dumplings were good. We tried the non-alcoholic beer and it was refreshing. The dining room ambiance was nice. Took some photos on the balcony with the Ferry building & Bay Bridge backgrounds. Actually I visited this restaurant before & after pandemic many times while working in the SF Financial district. This restaurant is a good spot for meeting up your former coworkers who are working in downtown, friends & families for any occasions. I will keep on coming back to Harbor View when the next chance gets available.

Tucked on the side of a concrete complex that, thankfully, has parking inside, Harborview is only hard to find the first time. Up the stairs and through the waiting room is a vast dining hall that's easily filled for dinners, and I'd highly recommend making a reservation if possible. While the decor and menu touts an upscale experience, the service is fairly lacking. My group arrived in two separate parties, and the first party was made to wait outside--the building, not in the waiting room, where they would've been shielded from the freezing San Francisco evening winds. Though they seated us promptly after my half of the group arrived, why they have a waiting area with seating but don't allow guests to wait in said area, especially during the winter, is baffling. The food itself was great. The Kurobuta Pork Soup Dumplings were delightfully savory, and they came out hot enough to burn, so be careful if you order those. The Peking duck was authentic, although not the crispiest I've had, and the beef brisket was exceedingly tender. However, the latter dish came out so much later than all our other dishes that we'd thought we'd finished eating by the time it arrived. I also ordered a bowl of rice that never came. I'm not sure if it made it onto the bill as I failed to remember to check, but overall: The food was good, but service was severely lacking. Yes they were extremely busy and yes we were a large group with a large order, but there were many a table as large as ours. Unfortunately, the service doesn't match what the interior decor touts, but I still enjoyed myself and would be open to returning.
Be the first to ReplyI always enjoy Harborview.
I thought fried crab was an abuse, but it's delicious. The eggplant is wow. All of thier dishes are good, and when the weather permits, their outside eating has great SF views. I also order delivery from them all the time. Dim Sum Yum.

Horrible customer service! Me and my friends came an hour before they closed. We got there and the host, waitress, and cleaners were already there cleaning the place. EVERYONE were rushing us to eat. It was my first time bringing my friends from SoCal to SF. I was so embarrassed. Very disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyHad some nice dim sum at Harborview on a rainy SF night.
Overall the things we ordered were pretty good but the service was a little rushed. We had 5 different waiters come to try to get us to order mains before our appetizers and drinks even came out. Lychee martini is amazing!
Be the first to ReplyThis place is best dim sum place we have been to.
It is expensive for dim sum, but you get what you pay for. Can't miss:Soup dumplingsPork buns with sugar crustEgg lava bunsGreen beans Shrimp and leek dumplingsThey also validate parking for up to 4 hours which is a major plus if you want to pair with some nearby sightseeing.

This is my partner and I favorite spot on the Embarcadero. Great view of the the ocean and ferry building. Reservation process is very simple on OpenTable. We get seated usually within 5min of arrival. The staff is very on top of things in terms of clearing the table of used plates and taking new food orders from the table. Our favorite dishes are the duck, sweet & sour chicken, and the pork buns. Delicious Chinese food, served in a traditional matter with great service. Their lychee martini is also worth a try.Very solid spot and one of my favorite, if not, favorite restaurant
Be the first to ReplyGreat mix of nice ambiance and authentic food.
Also somehow always super easy to get into during weekend lunch time, it's my go to same day weekend brunch reservation option. Of course that comes at a cost - it's a bit pricier than other dim sum spots, most items we got were $8-12.My favorite items were:Chinese doughnut rice rolls - so many places mess this up, but the ones here were perfect - crispy Chinese doughnut with thin, slippery rice roll layer covering it. Baked bbq pork buns - these are in the style made famous by Tim Ho Wan. Pretty solid rendition, the bread is soft and the pork is tasty. Don't skip ordering this.Other stuff we got:Deep fried meat rice dumplings - These were great, nice crispy exterior with savory meat filling.Baked coffee lava buns - It's a creative twist on lava buns leveraging the sugar crust technique that makes their baked bbq buns so good - what's not to like? Good option for something sweetChicken feet - Solid rendition of chicken feetBlack truffle Peking duck sliders - These are basically like premade Peking duck buns, although tbh I didn't like the use of the toasted bun, I prefer fully soft buns. My boyfriend loves this dish though.Dumplings were a bit weak - skins are a bit thick and gummy and the wrapper for the steamed shrimp & pea sprout dumpling stuck to the steamer and broke when trying to pick it up.

I had the loveliest 9-course banquet dinner for the Lunar New Year. The restaurant is GINORMOUS, elegant and accommodating. The wait staff is amazingly attentive and never left us waiting for service. The food was delicious, and special...! The deep-fried crab was exquisite, the steak cubes & abalone was delicately delicious. I could mistakenly say I couldn't get enough, but OMG I was so full of food, I needed a wheelbarrow to haul myself out of there at the end of the night. I will definitely go back again!

I've been coming to Harborview for many years (even under the old name/ownership) and it has always been a good experience from start to finish. The restaurant has a stunning view of the bay and a sophisticated atmosphere, perfect for a special occasion or a business dinner. The food and drinks were equally impressive, with a menu that offered a fusion of classic and modern Chinese cuisine. I highly recommend the Peking duck. The meat was succulent and tender, and the crispy skin had the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. They also had a great selection of dim sum and other small plates to share, from fluffy steamed buns to crispy egg rolls.Their cocktails were inventive and expertly crafted. I tried the Harborview Sazerac and liked the smoothness and complexity of the drink. The addition of a Chinese herb-infused ice cube added a unique and delicious twist to the classic cocktail.Overall, I recommend Harborview to anyone looking for an good dining experience with a great view of the bay.
Be the first to ReplyA great place for both locals and visitors.
The dining room and waiting room are nicely decorated with traditional Chinese decor. The staff is very pleasant. Harborview offers dim sum during the day and traditional dishes at night. You can order fresh steamed fish, various seafood, stir-fried vegetables, and many meats dishes. It is an excellent place for vegans, vegetarians, and meat lovers. All scan be sitting together at one big round table and everyone has something good to eat.

I gave only 2 stars because (1) when I made reservations, I wasn't informed that the main restaurant was booked for a private party and I'd be relegated to seating at the bar area with folding tables and chairs. (2) the manager or whoever he is at the bar area is straight up rude, impolite, especially for the level or restaurant they try to portray themselves to be. (3) the hostess who was "managing" the entrance pushed my niece out of her way instead of just saying "excuse me".The food is decent. The other wait staff is nice. In fact, I tipped the waiter, in cash, personally to make sure he was appreciated.
