Michelin recognized Southern spot
Came here for dinner with a couple of friends and we made a reservation beforehand for 6pm (15 minute grace period). Thereโs parking there as well as street parking. Old Man Whiskey Bar is hidden there as well. Credit cards accepted. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, loaded baked potato gnocchi, dry aged kanpachi, confit duck leg, and the cornbread (which everyone says to get). The potato gnocchi was rich and very cheesy. The plates were on the smaller side but all the food is served family style. I liked how well the kanpachi was cooked - the skin was crispy but the meat was tender. I do think that the cornbread was a little oily but itโs because of the generous amount of butter and it is tasty.

We absolutely loved this place! First of all, I am Not a โFoodieโโ I like most food, but donโt really get excited about most of it. This was Differentโ Above & beyond! The cornbread canโt even be described! (& Iโm southern, so I know), the Turkey meatloaf & mashed potatoes melted in my your mouth! Salad was great! The only thing we didnโt love were the carrots, but only because they were a little spicy. Excellent ambiance & service.
Be the first to ReplyWorst service with subpar food!
This is literally the worst service we have ever received in Los Angeles. Thereโs a mandatory 20% minimum service charged on top of your bill regardless of service provided. Because of the automatic tip, the server that we had was so unmotivated, arrogant and acting like waiting/greeting customers was beneath her. She even tasked the buser to take our orders. Whatโs weird was that she was standing right behind us and still using the buser as an intermediary and didnโt come to us. Very bizzare. The $80 ribeye came out shriveled, thinly sliced like a cheap steak sandwich sans buns. The chef left in April and the place is in shambles. They need to invest in competent wait staff and floor managers.
Be the first to ReplyUnforgettable dining with friends
This venue is a fantastic spot to enjoy a meal with friends. The atmosphere is both energetic and relaxed, striking a perfect balance. The interior decor creates a cozy ambiance, while the outdoor space offers a refreshing experience. The cocktails provided a refreshing and satisfying taste, with a decent strength to them. As for the food, the menu showcased creative and intentional items. The grilled mushrooms, in particular, stood out, as they were well-seasoned and had a meaty texture. And let's not forget the cornbread, which was delightfully savory and soft. All in all, a truly enjoyable dining experience!

Yummy...omggg the place is so cute..my 3rd time here but this time for brunch and yasssss!! The crispy potatoes oh yeah..the roosted brocolini ues maaam and ommg the sourdoad hot cakes with lemon curd on top melt in ur mouth..Its a yes for me across the board!! The fried chicken is just okay in my opinion and nothing to write home about..The fish..Turkey meatloaf is a thumbs up!! Cute cocktails. A bit pricey but totally worth it.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed at food quality.
I had high expectation as I chose this for my husbandโs birthday. I was eyeing the ribeye and was eager to try some other exciting dishes. However we were all disappointed. Best: melon and ham Worst: Elk, Ribeye, the whole fish The Elk was prepared medium rare and we thought itโs perfect. But other meat was rough. It was difficult for us to cut. The seasoning was too heavy, towards too salty side. We are from San Francisco and I m not sure dishes in LA are more strongly tasted Ribeye was a flop. We ordered medium rare. They cooked perfect but the quality of the meat was no good, very tough. It was like US choice grade with a lot of gristle. Very disappointed at this $80 price point. The fish was good but the tomatoes sauce ruined it completely. Not worth for the 5 star review which misled me. Overpriced for such food quality.

The atmosphere was wonderful. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious. The cocktails were fabulous. I will return!
Be the first to ReplyIncredibly delicious
We had a business dinner here , highly recommend dining outside . Particularly enjoyed the array of vegetables and that corn bread was so memorable!
Be the first to ReplyI was unaware of the dill festival that was apparently happening
Decor and vibe were top notch. Felt like the 45 minute wait ( despite walking past open tables) that magically turned into a 15 minute wait was just a scam to route us through the bar (this is not unique to this place). Drinks were outstanding so that can be forgiven a bit. Water was good. Menu was printed in one side of 8.5 x 11 paper, making the font tiny to the point of very hard to make out (particularly given the low light levels). Food started out great with the excellent cornbread. But that is when it got weird. Every dish after that appeared to be a tribute to dill. Grilled avocado, grilled gem salad, carrots, and crispy potatoes all came with crazy amounts of dill. I like dill but this was absurd. I think the dishes would have been great with a bit less of it. It kinda ruined the vibe and greatly reduced my enjoyment as each dish became an exercise in dill removal.

What can I say? The food is great - kind of farm to table stuff. The choice of bourbons is incredible. I have never seen a better collection. If you like great food and an awesome bourbon selection, then head to Culver City and enjoy.
Be the first to ReplyCute restaurant focused on fresh Californian cuisine
Fresh, local California cuisine with a hidden whiskey bar (Old Man Bar). Unfortunately the whiskey bar was closed for a private event, but we enjoyed a delightful meal in the restaurant. Note that theyโll only accepted reservations for large groups, so itโs walk-in only. Thereโs indoor and heated outdoor patio seating. You donโt get seated until the entire party is present, but you can hang out at the bar until then. For the four of us, we split five dishes plus dessert. There were vegetarian options. I was told by multiple people to get the cornbread, but we opted for the ricotta toast instead (you can get ham on the side). Note that the food comes out as itโs ready. The wedge salad is like a grown up Cobb salad, with delectable bits of lardons interspersed the leaves. It was quite drenched in ranch dressing, so be mindful of that. The Brussel sprouts were amazing and had a great flavor. The lentil stuffed red pepper was alright, I would skip it. The Branzino was tender and came as a whole fish - the server who brought it out kindly filleted it for us. We ended with the sticky toffee pudding cake, which I would highly recommend. The ambiance was laidback and the patio was really pretty. Itโs a good spot for a date or a small group catch up. Credit cards accepted. Thereโs restrooms available behind the bar to the right. There was a small parking lot that used to be valet-only pre-Covid, but I didnโt see anyone there when I went. Otherwise, street parking. Overall, itโs a pricey but tasty experience.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible Experience
What a horrible restaurant. The manager was Nasty yelling at me for trying to pay with 3 credit cards for a $4000 bill. Horrible service horrible food. Horrible experience. Never going back.
Be the first to ReplyCUTE BUT NOT WORTH IT
Whereas service and decoration are magnificent, the menu is designed in a way your very expensive main course will have no sides. So your option is to spend the equivalent of half the price of your main course in an appetizer, salad or veggie order. If you choose not to have sides, you will feel deprived, and if you go for a side, you will make dinner more expensive, and end up with a doggie bag. On top of these, the background music here is extremely loud, very disruptive. I wish they had a quarter-portion-size of sides to choose from, so to enjoy the range of the menu without feeling ripped off, nor forced to share.
Be the first to ReplyThe Horrible, Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Dining Experience
As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, I can confidently say that I have never had a worse dining experience in my entire life. We called ahead to alert the restaurant that we had a group of 8โthey reassured us if we got here at 6 we wouldnโt have a problem. We understand things happen, but we ended up waiting 1 hour and 45 minutes for a table. They failed to move along service for the party that had paid and was sitting there for an extra hour. Seems like poor management. Thereโs a time limit for dining and they blissfully ignored that for some reason. The events manager at the hostess stand had the worst attitude I have ever come across and was very hostile towards our party, even as we were patiently waiting. I do not use this word lightly, but this woman was so incredibly bitchy we actually could not believe the way she was behaving towards us. Completely untoward. Once we finally were sat down, we began to order food. We alerted the server that we have a food allergy - no sesame - and to confirm which dishes would be safe to eat. After having served us a round of dishes and we begun to eat, as it turns out, several of the items we ordered contained sesame. It is horrifying to think that someone with a more severe allergy could have been seriously put in danger due to their negligence. We are so lucky that the person in our party didnโt consume enough of anything to cause a severe reaction. This was what really made us upset. We brought this up and instead of taking this matter seriously, they would find someone else to blame. Every time we would discuss what was wrong with our experience, they would counter argue and were incredibly defensive. Not apologetic in the least, instead so defensive and hostile. When you are the one in the wrong, you should understand that it is your responsibility to make things right. Even more so when someoneโs life could be at stake. Instead of trying to improve our experience in any way, they decided to send our party a round of mezcal shots. This was appreciated, but no one asked for these and half of our party doesnโt even drink mezcal. Seemed like a sad attempt at throwing a bandaid over the already terrible experience. Even this would have been a nicer gesture if they were to ask us what we preferred as a round of shots, but things like that do not cross their mind as they have zero sense of what it is like to be a guest at their restaurant. We received the billโnot a single thing comped or discounted. Insane for the experience we had. We brought this up to the manager and instead they insulted our party, alluding that we were being unreasonable or that we expect to be pampered which is not the case at all, we were looking for the situation to be rectified properly. Horrible horrible experience for a group of people just looking to have a nice time at dinner and instead were forced to battle with the staff to rectify their own mistakes. We are residents of Culver City, and we have absolutely loved this restaurant in the past. We are deeply disappointed by the way things were handled last night and unfortunately no one in our party will be returning to this establishment. We do not recommend this place to absolutely anyone.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyed my evening here โฆ
First, let me say the meals here are small plates and best if shared family style. I found most of the dishes to be very good and the selection of dishes to be fairly diverse, although the portion size a bit skimpy for the price you pay. So that said, it can easily get quite expensive to eat here.
The restaurant itself is nicely laid out, a bit dark and also very noisy. The staff was very friendly and attentive.
All-in-all, I did enjoy my evening here, but if I lived down here, I donโt see myself as someone who will eat here regularly. Although, it does make for a nice place to bring friends and family occasionally.
A real disappointment and for al that money!
I had a meal at Hatchet Hall for the first time tonight. It was bad. None of the food was very good; poorly seasoned, badly imagined, bitter, tough, just not a good meal.
The hostess was exceptionally rude to us upon our arrival. I called ahead to let her know we were running a little late because of traffic and it started there and got worse.
Unbelievably the bill came to almost $200. I feel raped. I feel like in no way did I get anything like what I should have for a price like that. No drinks, just trying to find something good enough to salvage the experience.
A horrible disappointment.
Terrific place for a nice outdoor dinner!
Had a lovely, mid-week, mid-Covid dinner with my husband. Wonderful outdoor seating with all of the right precautions for a safe experience. Really enjoyed and would highly recommend the cornbread (main reason for going back!), the broccoli (so delicious), carrots (fantastic), grilled squid (perfect with just a touch of salt), and cocktails (nice and strong). We do not recommend the shrimp. It's peel and eat and way too messy and way overpriced. We also felt that the food came out too quickly. We felt rushed and maybe it was not cooked to order. Except for the shrimp, it was all delicious and next time we are there, we will pace the meal ourselves by ordering one item at a time.
Be the first to ReplyGreat meal
This restaurant serves food that is to be shared. The portions are small and a la crate but the food is outstanding. If you go be ready to share everything you order and be open to trying new things.
Be the first to ReplyWhy did I try this place again?
My family wanted to try Hatchet Hall one more time. Again, the food was no more than average the prices we're outrageous and even though we got there early and parked ourselves in their lot we had the pleasure of paying for the valet service we did not use.
I simply don't understand how is place stays in business, what with it's mediocre food and snobby and slightly obnoxious servers.
So now I have been there done that again and I won't make the same mistake. I suggest this place to no one.
Butter
Any chef can make any course taste great with butter and boy do the chefs at Hatchett Hall put those words on the plate. Dates were great but smothered in butter. Sea Bass comes whole smothered in butter. Pork chops the same. A stick of butter on the corn bread. Literally. I hope at least a few of the waiters know how to perform CPR. Overall the courses were all tasty although I am NOT a fan of dealing with the bones and scales of a whole fish for $32 and four $16 cocktails and two glasses of wine were $100 each for a very limited amount of buzz (but that's big city living) All and all good experience not great.
Be the first to ReplyFavorite Restaurant in West LA
This is hands down my favorite restaurant in west LA. The food is always consistently great, and their seasonal menu makes it worthwhile to visit often to try new things. We've always experienced terrific service as well, so we love bringing out of town friends and relatives knowing they will enjoy their time here.
The ambiance inside is Wes Anderson-esque, with mismatched plates and dining sets, intricately patterned wallpaper and plenty of taxidermy on the walls. We typically opt for a patio table when available. Although it faces the parking lot, the gravel ground, weathered patio furniture, dim lighting and plant life really take you to a whole different place. The acoustics are much better on the patio, and they are dog-friendly which is always a plus for us.
I highly recommend starting the night off with an order of their milk rolls (they recently changed these, but they are just as fantastic with their signature sweet butter). Right now we are loving their mushroom and herb spoonbread, as well as their grilled octopus and seared scallops.
You really can't go wrong with anything on their menu! Old Man Bar (next door) is also a great place to finish your night with a nice drink.
Good food, questionable ambiance
I had been to this location once before when it was a different restaurant and quite good as I recall (if only I could remember the name). Hatchett Hall is fairly new so we decided to check it out. Our waitress was very nice, very efficient, and, more importantly, very patient. We ordered a lot of food which was all excellent and almost overate ourselves into oblivion, kind of like the old days when we would eat so much meat, it was hard to even get up and leave the table. It is loud, very loud, one of those spots where it's hard to hear one another. The seats are about 50% comfortable, and 50% not with the patio 100% not. We got lucky were in the right 50 percentile. We didn't indulge in dessert primarily because it was a hot evening, and there is a fab ice cream store directly across the street. My friends enjoyed their drinks and wine mine less so. I didn't recognize one vodka of the five on the menu but ordered a bone dry martini which wasn't dry and the vodka something less than top flight. Despite the drawbacks, we will go back because the food and service was so good, but I will not order anything that's vodka related.
Be the first to ReplyThe Beauty is Inside
First impressions are lasting. First arrival at Hatchet Hall was to a complete candlelit dining area, with white table cloths with flowers and candles on each table - very impressive, cozy, romantic. The food was unique and delicious. I actually returned the following night for more. The waitstaff was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Overall experience was a 10+.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious, Worth the Price
This place is interesting. Iโve only been once but apparently they change the menu every day. Must be a headache for the chefs. Anyways, itโs a โsmall plateโ spot where you get multiple small dishes for your table instead of one dish per person. Itโs also pricey, but itโs delicious. Every dish we ordered was excellent, and the duck knocked me off my feet. I think they used some type of honey-based glaze. Iโm not positive, but it was exceptional. If you donโt mind spending a little extra, you will enjoy yourself here. I recommend making a reservation, even on week days.
