HYUN East 33rd Street New York Reviews from The Last Year
Not sure why it's showing temporarily closed.
We definitely ate here last night. This restaurant is amazing. Where else can you have AYCE Japanese A5 wagyu for only $159/person? The sides are lettuce and 2 kinds of salads (scallion and lettuce). We opted for additional sides of rice and bean paste stew. These were amazing with the meal as it cut the fat and richness of the wagyu. Food quality was definitely 5/5! The service was good but could be improved. For example, there were 4 parties dining (2 large, 2 small). Only 1 person knew all the cuts of meat and knew how to cook it all properly. The others looked like they were in training or didn't have as much knowledge. When speaking of the different cuts of steak, only 1 person knew the differences. Maybe it's their tactic, but it means we did have a bit of a wait for the encore dishes. One disappointment we had was our cocktail. Mine was super bitter but instead of letting me change it, I was told "too bad." For $19, I would think they should be able to let me change it out. The meal ended with a complimentary chocolate mousse dessert since we were celebrating our anniversary. We would definitely come back here for the food... and likely skip the drinks.
Worst service! Avoid at all cost
Please avoid going to this restaurant. We had the worst experience with service provided by the server. He did not explain anything about the wagyu cuts before cooking. He literally just dumped the tray on the table then throw the meat on the grill to cook without saying a word. We had to request three times for him to come to open the bottle of wine we brought. When he finally opened it, he did not pour the wine into a decanter and did not help us to pour the wine! We poured ourselves. And he charged us bottle open fee. He also brought not only one but two bottled water when we asked for tap water and charged us $12 each for the bottled water. He just left the bottled water on the shelf of the wall away from our table that is hard for us to reach and pour ourself and he did not come to pour the water for us either! The server only came over maybe once 20 mins to cook and most of the times we were just either waiting for more meat to come or waiting for more meat to be cooked cos he only brought small portions each time and only cooked small portions. The service did not provide any service to us just made us very disappointed. We brought up some of these points to the server at the end of dinner and he had the worst attitude.

This place is a solid place for AYCE Wagyu! We had rezzy's, but we still had to wait which was a bit strange because we had to wait for at least 30 minutes. The introductory to what was expected was solid, our server was great at explaining everything, what goes well with what and what is best cut, etc. I had phenomenal experience and i would definitely recommend this spot to any of my friends. Our cook was also knowledgeable as well, gave us some tips on how to eat the meat and what pair of seasoning goes well with it. A grand time and i would definitely come back!
hands down the BEST kbbq in New York! The filet mignon
hands down the BEST kbbq in New York! The filet mignon melts in your mouth and all the other cuts were insanely tender. The marinated beef was also amazing
The service was extremely prompt and they didn't waste any
The service was extremely prompt and they didn't waste any time. This was much appreciated since we only get 90 minutes to eat. I really enjoyed the spicy scallion and vinegary salad accompaniments. These were really needed to cut through the richness of the Wagyu. I like their dipping sauces as well, the best being the truffle salt, even though I'm not a fan of truffle. The bean sauce was also very good with the marinated beef. We had an early reservation so we had our own private room, which seemed so much better than sitting outside at the regular tables. More privacy, more quiet, just nicer. Our server was very patient and explaining the different cuts and repeating when we forgot. We were able to go four rounds before our time ran out. I could've gone one more even though I was stuffed. Would I go again? Probably not, I felt so guilty and fat when I was done, not to mention it was quite pricey. Should you try it? Definitely! Try it at least once.
Holy meats that was delicious.
The service is amazing and they explain what each cut of meat is and how to pair it.
HYUN offers a unique dining experience in New York City,
HYUN offers a unique dining experience in New York City, especially for those unfamiliar with unlimited A5 Wagyu. Upon arrival, the friendly staff and cozy ambiance provided a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a rainy evening. The meal begins with a variety of Wagyu cuts, cooked to perfection. The accompanying bonchon side dishes, particularly the salad, were of high quality and complemented the meats well. Service was attentive, with staff ensuring that our bonchon sides were replenished promptly without needing to be prompted. After the initial round, we had the freedom to select our preferred cuts and indulge at our own pace. The restaurant's ambiance felt upscale and well-ventilated, contributing to a pleasant dining experience. Overall, my family and I were super satisfied and will most likely visit every time we go to NYC. It is really pricey, $100+ per person, but A5 alone is never cheap. Worth it.
Still great service and food.
Their prices have increased to $160 per person. I prefer the leaner cuts over the fatty ones - the fattier ones are closer to butter than they are meat, whereas the leaner ones are just excellent versions of beef that you'd normally eat. When they ask you if you want water, their default is a bottle of mineral water which costs $12 per. Oops, we drank too much. I strongly recommend rice, even though a small bowl is $4. The shiso sorbet is fantastic after such an indulgent meal, but my friends somehow didn't like the aftertaste of the shiso (which I thought added to the dessert). I still enjoy Hyun, but the price increase has now made it so that, after tip/tax, I'd rather just eat a 2-2.5 pound wagyu tomahawk at other steak places which is at a similar price point. Still great, but not as much of a value anymore.
This is a very high end place with all you can eat wagyu
This is a very high end place with all you can eat wagyu beef. It's a mix of Korean and Japanese cuisine given the wagyu beef but then they have samjang paired with salads that you can eat as a wrap. The chef comes by and cooks for you. We were seated in a private room, which provided a lot of privacy. To start off, you will eat all the different parts of the cow. Then, for each round, you can choose the cuts of the cow you want more of (up to three per round). We did only about four rounds and couldn't do more due to the richness of the meat. We did wish that they provided a picture of text of each meat because when they do cook it, it's all a bit mixed so we didn't remember which cuts we ate.
Food was very good.
Service was quick and attentive. Felt a little rushed but the experience was great overall.
top quality food and well executed.
best service I have ever received. left extremely full and satisfied.
My mouth is watering just writing this review and remembering the epicness of HYUN.
By far the best stateside place to have Wagyu. We've been to Cote in Miami, and while that is a show on itself and great too, I found HYUN to be more superior. We had a reservation for a party of 2 and received a private booth. From there the experience just went above and beyond. Our waiter Mai was super helpful and took his time explaining the menu and what sides would work well between the Wagyu. We went when the Hokkaido Uni and it was delicious. Mai also explained the sakes and beers in detail and gave us amazing recommendations. We literally just went with what he advised and he did not disappoint. I can't remember the name of the lady who cooked our meat but she gave us a great explanation of each meat and when we went for an encore we went with her suggestions and it was spot on. The house made kimchi was delicious but spicy. Great if you like it at that intensity. All the sides that came with the meal paired fairly well. I wish they had HYUN in Miami as it would be our Wagyu spot to go to for special occasions. But we will be back to HYUN when we come back to NYC.

Thank you for the question, if a seller is working on answering your bid, you cannot cancel it until their time is up and the bid is released back to you. The full amount of funds then go back into your AT account. Typically a seller has 48-72 hours to complete the bid.
