Great find in North Albany
Joined some friends who dined here prior, and our experience was top-notch start to finish on Saturday 1-22-22. The affable owner set the tone for a great evening with terrific hospitality and well crafted cocktails. Our server was attentive and polished, the pacing of the meal was perfect. The restaurant is laid out nicely and the vibe was fun, with lots of tables enjoying the scene.
Since the menu changes weekly, these dishes may not be available if you go, but we especially enjoyed the chicken parm stack and the lobster pappardelle. Price points are more than reasonable given the freshness of ingredients. There are probably 6 apps and 8 mains to choose from on a given night.
The wine list by bottle or glass is well priced. We noticed many regular customers being greeted by the owner, and dining at the bar was encouraged, which is great for couples looking to share wine and an app.
This restaurant is a winner and we will return soon.
Great creative menu and fabulous friendly service
Great curated menu of creative dishes. Fabulous on point service shows management is into the small details that make a meal a wonderful experience.

Love to have a local restaurant that offers a good meal. Good choices, good prices, great staff! A new choice to add to our Italian favs.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food on a festive occasion!
My husband and I returned to El Faro on October 4 and walked into their anniversary celebration. It was fun to see a packed bar with festive balloons and a full dining room, We spotted friends in the bar, so stopped for a drink before dinner. The party atmosphere was encouraged by wine tasting, craft beer tasting, and excellent music provided by a pianist/vocalist named Jeanine. When we were ready for dinner, we were quickly seated. We both had the autumn salad with the homemade red wine vinaigrette dressing. The salad included a variety of delicate greens and the dressing was "delish". I had the savory sherry cream scallops with linguine. The scallops and linguine were perfectly cooked, and nicely complemented by the sherry cream sauce. My husband had the Veal Murphy, and was delighted by the tenderness and quality of the veal. All of our servers were very personable and efficient. Nothing not to love here!
Be the first to ReplyGood choice !
Our group of eight are here on our annual Saratoga weekend. Service was excellent and drinks were well made. Menu had a wide range of choices for our group, everyone enjoyed their meal and said they would come back. We also ended a few deserts which were also delicious. One down side was the coffee was to strong and no half & half.
They also could improve there wine choices. Other than that every thing was good and the owners and staff were great. I recommend Il Caro the next time you're in the Albany
Area
"Albany's Treasure - Discovered Through Waterford, NY RadioRadioX Radio Station - Now One Of My Fave Restaurants"
I was visiting Albany, New York and listening in a Waterford,New York radio station RadioRadioX and heard a promotion for IL Faro Restaurant & Bar and the specials they were offering.
So happy to have made the trip to this fine dining restaurant on what was "Date Night" on Thursday, April 25, 2019. A pleasure to be served by friendly and professional staff and the food was exceptional! Glad I tuned in at the radio station to find this treasure located in Albany, New York. Thank YOU.
Christmas Eve Seven Fishes Dinner
This review only covers the seven course pride fixe Christmas Eve Dinner. I have no opinion, certainly no unfavorable one, about their regular menu.
First, the staff couldn’t have been nicer, and we were asked multiple times if the dinner was satisfactory. I couldn’t bring myself to say anything negative, which was wrong on my part, but I really didn’t see how they could have done anything to fix things given the nature of the meal.
Second, the wine paring was a great buy at $25. Seven decent Italian wines that probably totaled the equivalent of a whole bottle. I would have preferred a couple of more reds over so many whites, but that’s just my subjective choice.
Without knowing what their regular menu was like, I can’t be sure, but I think this menu was overly ambitious. The first course was a salt cod salad, but there was almost no salad to speak of, just very salty dried cod. The second course, baked clams, arrived cold and bone dry. We politely complained, and again, the staff could not have been nicer. The waitress returned with two brand new orders, but they were some of the worst baked clams I’ve ever eaten (that weren’t spoiled, that is). Dry breadcrumbs, without a drop of moisture.
Third course was a fine, if not particularly flavorful lobster tail, served on a bed of risotto that also lacked flavor. It contained pieces of scallop, but my wife didn’t even realize it until I pointed it out as she was finishing it. The scallops were surrounded by a sea of rather bland rice. The braised octopus and stuffed shrimp were okay, but no more than that. The sixth course was a stuffed calamari over linguini; I liked the red sauce with it; my wife did not. Neither of us did more than nibble a try of the stuffed calamari. In fairness, I never met a red sauce I wouldn’t eat, she, being half Sicilian, is more discerning. By the time the last course, baby eel had arrived, we were done with fish and asked for the check.
So, one should only take from this review to avoid a Seven Fishes dinner here should they attempt an encore next Christmas Eve. I suspect, that on a normal night, this place may be the equal of a place like Ralph’s in Albany, which I love.
I just think that for one night, Il Faro tried to hook a big fish, but couldn’t quite land it.
Great meal every time
I have eaten at Il Faro many times and always had a great time. The co-owner, Jessica, always greets me with a WELCOME BACK when i come in, which makes you feel good. I love the fried kale appetizer, the eggplant parm and they carry juniors as well as grandma apples cheesecakes! I've brought a coworker, my daughter and mother here and all plan on going back with people of their own. Nice little restaurant where you can actually converse without loud tvs and music. I would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable family dinner!
This was my second time dining here, but first time with my family. Our 3 young boys, my husband and I had an very good meal! Everyone was friendly & welcoming, and treated our children like the budding diners we are teaching them to be! The wine, beer and cocktail menu is very well done. Skilled mixology shows!! The happy hour specials on a Sat evening were an added bonus! Our waiter seemed a bit overwhelmed, he may have been new, but the service was generally good. Everything we ordered tasted wonderful, our only note was that the items weren’t quite as described. The saffron cream veal special included broccolini but it came instead with peas and mushrooms, and the stufato de pesce listed cod, but there was none - slight variances that didn’t affect quality, just our expectations. The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere- we will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyNot a well run establishment
Although I have never eaten here, I did have a very unfavorable encounter with this establishment. I replied to an ad for a server and or hostess. I arrived at the designated time. One of the co-owners Jessica was scheduled to conduct the interview. As I arrived 2 tables of diners arrives as well. Apparently the server scheduled had called in sick and Jessica had to cover the FOH. I took a seat at the bar and was prepared to wait. I don't have a car at the present time so I had traveled for over an hour by bus. I waited for a few minutes when Jessica said she could not do the interview tonight. I completely understood. She stated that she would send me an email later that night with a time when we could talk by phone. I never received the email or another phone call. I emailed her back and got no response. The only conclusion that I can draw is that she discriminated against me based on my appearance. I am of average weight and considered by many to be attractive but I am also in my 50's. It appears based on my age she didn't deem me to be hirable. If that is how I was treated how are customers that are not 30 years old and white (like the owner) treated. I would never eat here and I have encouraged everyone I know and love to avoid the establishment as well.
